It is unusual for the Consulate to doubt the motivation of the USC.

Solely for immigration purposes.

We are indeed in a real relationship intending to marry in the US in the required 90 days, we are both legally free to marry and neither of us are criminals... and we have provided evidence to those things. So why should we not be approved?

You forgot the big one.Which seems the most common reason.

I am not sure what you mean by stats.

Consulates handle a wide variety of cases, some of which raise more questions than others. So you would need to know not only if a visa was granted but how comparable the circumstances were to your own.

The questionable cases seen on VJ seem to involve.

Women sponsor

Met on internet

Little face time

Different religion

Older

Divorced

Children

Different cultural background

Different educational background

Past child bearing age

If you compared that scenario with what might be considered a normal relationship and looked just at stats then you could be seriously misled.

Morocco has a disproportionately large number of unusual relationships.

So the feedback you will see is coloured accordingly.

Presumably she will sign up for Medicaid, that takes time and the selection of Doctors and Facilities is not that good.

Healthcare in the US can be good if you can afford it.

Sounds like a good idea to get a few more visits in, more face time, especially at a high fraud consulate.

I think by the time he will get his green card it would be like a year or so being in the US . So his mum can apply for a tourist visa if he wants her to stay with him for a while.I have some friends have done that .Most of the time the embassy will give the mother a 5 years visa .She can stay with him for up to 6 months before she has to go back to Egypt .

I would like to point out, just in case it's misinterpreted later on, my comment earlier about the person trying to offend wasn't directed at the OP, but at someone else who apparently deleted their post or it got removed.

So it has, very odd.

I do not know about Pakistan but I do know that Morocco has for example been well know as Gay friendly. There was the recent story which went against the norms and received a lot of coverage. I was under the impression that due to local culture the same applied throughout MENA.

To answer your question, all Consulates I believe employ local staff, never heard of one that did not. usually the final say will be down to US seconded staff.

Your case is pretty common on VJ , I would look to see how other MENA beneficiaries have dealt with the issue.

The issue you have to deal with is if your relationship is culturally normal. That it would exist without the prospect of a GC.

How long does the visa last once we have it, and can we extend it if we don't sell our house here etc in time?

Answered

Can we get some kind of temporary health insurance to tide us over - maybe like a long-term travel insurance, until he finds and job and gets over the probationary period of work?

Yes, varies by State. Not travel insurance, that is for people coming back.

What is the difference between having a green card and citizenship?

Green Card is similar to ILR

Could he come back to the UK for 2 years at some point to do an MBA, or would that compromise his visa situation?

Yes

(The plan would be to rent our house in NY for a couple years and rent in the UK while he studies)

Probably would be better to do it the US if that is where you are going to end up.

In your experience(s) are companies open to hiring people with foreign qualifications and experience or is it harder to get work?

Yes and harder

He has been in business management for the last 5 years and has a degree in international business and finance. Anyone have any experience in this or a similar sector?

Who does he know, networking is key. I have a step son with such a degree, he is working for a car rental company...

What about getting a mortgage when you move? Are companies willing to lend relatively quickly or do you need to prove a period of employment in the US?

You can get an international credit report, Employer may be able to help

Looks like your Husbands needs for a job with Health Insurance are the priority.

Perhaps he should look at getting a job with the Employer sponsoring him for a work visa?

You are wrong.

I do not know if you can transfer to a Tourist Visa, you would need to find out.

Being on a tourist visa may cause issues with the Consulate as opposed to being on a work visa, if you can get a tourist visa ask the Consulate if they will still deal with your case.

If you really need to know, I was 18 when we got married (I knew him for two years and I obviously couldn't file for him since I was underage). We didn't know what we were going to do...if I was going to move there, or him here. It has taken a lot of thinking to decide on what we wanted to do and we finally came to the right place and the right plan for our future and that included him being here. Thank you, Boiler for your snarky question =) And thank you Ryan H for your answer.

U.S. Sponsor Minimum Age Requirement

There is no minimum age for a U.S. sponsor (petitioner) to file a petition for a spouse. However, you must be at least 18 years of age and have a residence (domicile) in the U.S. before you can sign the Affidavit of Support (Form I-864 or I-864EZ). This form is required for an immigrant visa for a spouse and other relatives of U.S. sponsors.

Also, if anyone knows anything about the affidavit of support requirements and how they are calculated or if it's on a case by case basis. Based on her last 3 federal tax forms, 2008 exceeded the 125%, 2009 was about $1000 short of the 125%, and 2010 fell short quite a bit because she was unemployed for part of the year. She is still unemployed but about to start a job that based on the hourly rate would put her at a yearly rate that would be above the limit. We don't know if this is an absolute thing or something they work with. It's pretty hard to find someone who would take on the contractual obligation of the affidavit of support :/

You are misunderstanding the I 864. The Numbers are the numbers, you qualify or you do not. And it is current income that counts.

That makes life simpler. You had no visa.

Most people in your situation in the US would get married in the US and adjust status.

Is there a particular reason you want to go the CR1 route?
