Hi everyone, I have seen that some of you first received your AOS Fee Bill and then days after it showed payed, received the IV Fee Bill. My concern is that I received both the AOS Fee Bill AND IV bill at the same time. It also allowed me to pay for both of them online (which I did). My question is, is it safe to do that? Did I have to send in the AOS package first?
Also, has anyone here received both at the same time as well?

Again both Affidavit of Support (AOS) Processing Fee Bill Invoice and Immigrant Visa Application Processing Fee Bill Invoice were on the same E-mail.

Hi everyone!

I am about to send my IV package. I read in Lin Che's Shortcuts that the petitioner should put the Case number in each page including the I-864 with the AOS package. My question is, should I do that as well on all my IV package, or is it not necessary?

For those of you who already sent in your IV package, how did you do it?

Hi everyone,

I am about to send my IV package but was wondering, should I staple the papers together or should I use paper clips to hold them together, for example on one document I have three pages of translation, should I use staples or paper clips. The DS-230 is also several papers, can I staple them together?

When we were on the I-130 route we had an attorney, she filed the G-28, which states she represented us. Before we were approved on the I-130 we fired her (long story), sent in a "withdraw of G-28" letter to the USCIS.
When our case reached NVC, USCIS never withdrew her from our case, so I had to Email, snail mail a letter requesting to withdraw her from our case again. Meanwhile we received the IV bill and AOS bill at the same time. I spoke to a NVC operator and she said go ahead pay and mail in the IV package and AOS package. We are still waiting for a response from NVC about the withdraw of G-28 and Choice Of Agent which we also emailed and snail mailed.

Hi everyone, as of yesterday NVC has received (per tracking) all my documents...DS-3032, DS-230, and I-864. How long does it normally take to get an interview for the Embassy and once you get a date how long from when you received it is the actual appointment.

Yeah, that's what we were thinking back when we started the process. We didn't know anything about immigration (btw who told us that we had to fill the I-130 was the immigration officer at the POE last time I went to the US married and on the B2 visa, he was very nice), so we just thought it would be easier and painless to hire a lawyer. It was expensive and useless. Now that I know this website I feel I could have done everything by myself, but my husband still doesn't want to deal with the paperwork. But we might just get rid of him at NVC stage which we still have to go through.


I don't know if it is too late, but you might want to send a letter with a "beneficiary change of address" to USCIS. If you want to get rid of your lawyer also do a
"withdrawal of G-28", that also has to go to USCIS or NVC if you are in that stage.

My husband did a "change of address" for me because I too lived in the USA and moved back to Colombia. They changed it no problem.
We also started with a lawyer and got rid of her, they are useless when it comes to I-130's.
We did a "withdraw of G-28" back in the USCIS stage but unfortunately they (USCIS) never applied it, so we sent NVC 2 different emails, a letter via regular mail, and choice of agent, we are still waiting for them to remove the lawyer.


Good luck, AND FOR THOSE THINKING OF USING AN ATTORNEY FOR AN I-130, DON'T DO IT!! IF YOU HAVE ONE GET RID OF THEM!! My attorney cost us 5 months because she never sent in my husbands citizenship upgrade.

I went with just the I-130, it takes about the same amount of time and in the long run it's much cheaper.

In my case, I only received the interview appointment letter and no medical appointment date was mentioned. When I called the hospital they told me to bring the interview appointment letter (of course other docs like passport, etc) when I go for the checkup. You can call directly to the hospital about this to better be sure.

Medical exam are usually done at least a week before the interview date. The results are then forwarded to the US embassy or sometimes you have to bring it with you on your interview. Having it done 2 days before your interview might delay your visa approval. By the way, is it only in Bogota where you can have your medical exam? Did you check if there are any other accredited clinic near your place?



I have read that they usually give you the results the same day, worst case next day. The thing is we received the appointment letter saying that my medical was to be done on the fourth, but my son who has his appointment on the same day as me (Jan 14) hasn't received any letter about his medical appointment or his appointment.
The medical can only be done in Bogota.

Hello everyone, Happy New Year!!


I have a couple of questions.
My original interview was set for January 4th and my son's interview was set for January 14 (USCIS didn't link them together). I changed my interview for the 14th to have it the same day as my son. We just received in the mail the packet for my interview. It says Interview Jan 14, MEDICAL Jan. 04. I live in Medellin, the USE is in Bogota, does this mean I have to get my Medical this Monday and come back on the 14th for my Interview? For those of you who went through this process already, can you please share some information on this? I was planning on going to Bogota on the Jan. 12, do my son's and my medical on the 12th and do the interview on the 14th. Can the Medical be done like this or is it only by appointment. Has anyone had any luck with changing a Medical so it can be coordinated with the appointment?

Make sure you tell them to link them up together at the USCIS stage so your appointments may be at the same time. My husband file for me and my son separately and they gave us two different appointment dates. We had to call the embassy so they could give us one appointment for both.

I'm posting a second question about filing taxes from abroad.

Is it necessary to file a W7 for the ITIN if I'm married filing seperately. We are in Colombia and I only need to file this year to have something to show that I'm up to date with my taxes. His income will not be included in the filing. We also have a joint sponsor for the affidavit of support. Will filing for the ITIN be necesssary?

You can file jointly if you file a W7 to get a ITIN. The W7 has to be submitted with your return.

Exactly, file for an ITIN! Do not file single as you are not single! You can certainly file Married filing separately if you aren't reporting any income from your SO. You can also file married filing jointly



I have one more question...I'm not sure if applying for the ITIN applies to me since Im out of the country, living in Bogota and just want to file my taxes married filing separarely. We are not in the US and my spouse doesn't have a visa yet...What do you think?????

Hello everyone,
This really seems like a good site for help! I have been going with a lady from the Philippines for almost two years now. We are just about to get her anullment completed. I have lived with her in the Philippines for almost a year but I am now back in the states. I am preparing my K-1 application and I want to be sure I have everthing that they want from me the first time I send it. I have been married twice and I am sending a copy of the divorce papers. I'm guessing she would need to fax her anullment to me so I can send it also. I dont think it asked for these papers, the only thing I see on the application is the dates and place of divorce. Do I need to send in last years income taxes? I have a small ranch that is paid for but I dont show alot of income because I have alot of deductions, is this ,going to be a problem? I am from Colorado and not sure which office to send my application to and not sure what the fees are as I have heard they have changed. I would appreciate any help I could get as I leave for the Philippines on the 1st of September.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionJUNE 2010 FILERS

My husband and I had our ROC interview on Friday, October 1. Our appointment time was for 9:15am. We arrived at 9am, went through security, showed our interview letter to reception and then were asked to go upstairs to the second floor. When we arrived, we handed over our appointment letter and it was time stamped. The woman told us to have a seat and someone would be with us as soon as possible. We waited TWO HOURS until our name was called! It's not exactly clear on how people are called back because there were several people who arrived after us that were called in before, so they must have certain immigration officers working on certain types of cases.

We were really nervous and began going over possible questions they would ask us to make sure the nerves didn't get the best of us. When our name was called the immigration officer (IO) greeted us and was very polite. We went back to her office. I should note that on our way back, I noticed stacks and stacks of papers and files sitting all around in boxes and even on the floor next to filing cabinets. Who knows if those are applications waiting to be processed or what they are but there was definitely a lot of paper!

Once we got to the office, she asked us to raise our right hands and swear to tell the truth. She then asked for our IDs (specifically drivers licenses, not passports). She had our file on her desk with all the paperwork from our initial K1 visa back in 2007. She started asking my husband basics questions - his first name, middle name, last name, etc. As she was asking these she was crossing off each item on the original I-751 document. She then asked for our address and my husband was so nervous he kept messing up on the street number. I couldn't believe it! I told him to just breathe, and explained to her we were both very nervous. She speaks Spanish and my husband's first language is Spanish so she asked him in Spanish but he couldn't get it out. That really aggravated her and she immediately became very rude. She turned to me and asked me for the address which I gave her. She continued down the I-751 first page and checked off that the rest of the information was correct.

She asked if we brought any additional evidence that wasn't submitted with the original application or with the RFE that we responded to. We did have additional evidence but before I could get that out she then asked for all the originals of everything we submitted so I began looking for that. But before I could get that out she then asked me for our complete tax transcripts (which I began looking for) and then for the past YEAR of bank statements (seriously? doesn't that seem to be a bit much?). There appears to be no "protocol" on what they have to ask you for or what they need to see. She kept flipping through our file and asking for things and asking for more before we even got out the first thing. It was very frustrating and made us feel very unorganized.

She got even more angry/rude when we told her we didn't bring some of the things she was asking for. We didn't have one year's worth of bank statements, only the past two months. We also didn't bring a complete tax transcript, just the first page that includes how we filed and how much money we made. She then asked for our W2's which we didn't bring either. The interview was going downhill VERY fast. She asked for credit cards bills/statements (we didn't bring). Maybe we were just under the wrong impression as to what to bring. I thought we weren't supposed to bring anything we already submitted so I didn't. A piece of advice to anyone preparing for an interview....bring everything!

We brought our wedding album with photos. That seemed to make her happy. She started flipping through the pages and removing photos to put into her file. I really didn't want her to keep them but I thought, what the hell, we can make more copies. If that is what she wants, I didn't want to argue. We also spent a lot of time creating a disc with photos of us together, photos with friends, etc from the time my husband arrived in 2007 until now. She told us she is not supposed to accept discs but she will this time and made a note of the photos that were included.

She left the room to make photo copies and then I remembered we didn't turn over the NEW evidence that we brought - an offer on a home we put in recently and a receipt for our cruise vacation in November. We also remembered that the interview notice said to bring 2 passport photos which she didn't ask for so she took all of that and placed it in our file. She said she would have to think about our case before making a decision which made us feel very sad, scared and uncertain.

I asked her what we needed to do in November when we left for our cruise if my husband didn't have his green card. She said, don't worry, you'll probably have it by then (which gave us some indication that she would approve us). So then I asked, well just in case we don't, what should we do? She said just to travel with the one year extension letter and we should be good. I also asked her is she would like us to mail in the documents she requested that we didn't have. She told us that wouldn't be necessary. (I was thinking to myself if it's not necessary to send them in, then why even ask for them in the first place?!?)

My personal opinion is that she was angry with us for not bringing/not having everything she asked for and she was annoyed when my husband slipped up on the address. Because of that, she decided not to make a decision then and there just to be mean and make us wait longer. Because she made the comment "you'll probably have your green card by then" indicated to me that she does plan to approve it but we will just have to wait longer.
