CanadaLove advice, LIVE on VJ!
In any relationship it's a 2 way street.....you can't be the only one doing all those things mentioned.....the other half has to contribute to it as well....

My favorite analogy that I always use for a relationship is

A relationship is like an engine in a car...
You have to maintain it, check the oil, change the oil....

When I first heard that analogy a long time ago, it made so much sense to me....but then again it may not make sense to others...I could just be having a case of the Friday babbles... wink.gif

CanadaLove advice, LIVE on VJ!
I can see where everyone is coming from about marriage/relationships.

For my husband and I, we were friends since 1999 so we had spent vacations together with other friends/family and I also stayed for 3 months prior to us getting married to see how things would fare....

I do believe that there can be more than one match out there for people...after all that's why people have ex girlfriends, boyfriends, husbands and wives. I see it more as what you're willing to put up with. It may sound corny but I've found that if something really meshes such as two people in a relationship then it's really effortless. Things happen naturally. My husband and I haven't had a big fight yet.....we have had a little spat here and there but nothing that's not solved with a big hug or a little humor added.

I know if anything were wrong in our marriage that would make me doubt things, I would definitely looking into a Marriage Counsellor/Therapy. We had a talk about this before we got married and both agreed that we would try our best and all means to make things work.

CanadaCustom House In Victoria makes the news---sort of,lol
Sigh....just shows to me how important social funding is to help organizations help other people....the man sounds like breaking up with his fiance was the straw that broke the camel's back....

I hate to say it but I'd rather here news about a disgruntled worker doing mischief (no bombs, just being an inconvenience) than having all the scary stuff that happens here in Florida like innocent people getting shot.....re: car theft got chased into a Walmart and then blatently shot at the police in the store while people were walking around....hit a pregnant woman but she's ok....

CanadaFinally visiting home!
Ohhh thanks so much everyone for the helpful pointers....

And yes we'll be driving....I have to pick up the rest of my things that couldn't fit in the car the first time around....hope they won't tax me for all my old belongings....

And yes, I've always told the truth...one time they asked me how much I spent on items in the U.S and I said about 50 bucks...they asked on what and I said Victoria Secret under wear! The Custom's guy's face turned red...he he he

CanadaFinally visiting home!
So in a couple of weeks we are finally going back home to visit! I am soooo excited as I have not seen my parents and friends since our wedding in May!

From what I understand, when I go through the CDN border I can just show my CDN passport....and when returning back into the U.S. just show my U.S resident's card right? smile.gif

A couple of other questions come to mind....

When I enter Canada, can I use the $750 tax free limit on goods? My parents want me to get a few items that would be worth around $150.....

Do I tell them that I am a U.S. resident?

When I return to the U.S., I have the $800 tax free limit on goods right? Must stock up on Canadian goodies!

Any thoughts or experience would be greatly appreciated!

We have Wild Oats or is it now Whole Foods out here and you can get bulk candy, nuts, grains etc at those stores. They're in these plastic containers and you just grab a bag, fill it up, weigh it, put the code on and you're set to go. They also have that for spices too. Not sure what stuff Bulk Barn in Canada has as I have never been to one, but it might be similar from the way it's being described here...

Wild Oats/Whole Foods is not the same as Bulk Barn...imagine a huge store with nothing but everything bulk bins for you to scoop out and just buy what you need. No packaging just plastic bags....everything from spices to grains, candy to nuts, dog food, freshly ground peanut butter, pie filling, and sooo much more. There are rows and rows of food all in bulk. The bins are a lot bigger than the ones in Wild Oats and Whole Foods. wink.gif

Ahhh the memories. I think I'll have to make a pit stop there when I go back up to visit. wink.gif

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure I saw those in Publix.

Really? I haven't seen them out this way.....the only one I've seen are at Super Walmart and they are Garlic Butter...but it's not the shakers kind.. sad.gif

If you do go by, can you let me know if you see them? If you do, maybe I can ask this local Publix and see if they can carry it!

Ohmygosh, T.O.... you absolutely absolutely have to visit Sushi Katana when you're in Orlando! It's a hop skip and a jump from the biometrics office..... right on Conroy Road in front of the Mall at Millenia. (My favourite mall, btw. lol) I know it's not Indian but it's my absolute favourite restaurant here in Florida. I highly recommend the seaweed salad and the shumai appetizer. good.gif

As for Indian.... I'm with you. I really really miss not having the multitude of ethnic restaurants that you find in Toronto and the GTA. That's why I looooooooove Sushi Katana. I had finally found an ethnic restaurant with the true tastes and quality of the Toronto restaurants. Unfortunately, I haven't been to any Indian restaurants here. There are none in the area where I live, and when we go to Orlando I can't help myself..... I have to go to Sushi Katana! laughing.gif When I find an Indian restaurant I like I'll let you know. In the meantime, I just make my own. If you find one.... let me know.

One Flight Up is in Mount Dora.... about 40 minutes from Orlando. Your husband might know Mt Dora.... it's one of those small town "destination" places with lots of antique shopping and festivals and stuff. OFU has specialty coffee/tea, wine/beer, soft drinks, sandwiches, salads, and desserts. Definitely drop in there if you're in the area.

Hmmm told my husband about Sushi Katana and he's interested in trying it out on Wednesday so we may just head over there! Thanks for the suggestion! We typically eat at Rengetsu on International Drive because if you sit up at the sushi bar you can get the chefs to make you whatever roll you want. The Taiko drum show is really neat too!

Because of all this talk with Indian Food, I had to resort to buying some Patak's Tikka Masala sauce for dinner tonight...pair that with cubed chicken breast, mushrooms and some veggies. Brown basmati on the side too.....sigh..wish I had some fresh Pappadams!

Krikit - we're heading into Orlando on Wednesday for our Biometrics are going to make a day of it with some grocery shopping and maybe visit Prime Outlets now that they are officially open...he he he Hoping to score on a pair of running shoes!

I love Indian Food! One thing I really miss being down here in our area...not much Indian food going on....and the ones that are around aren't as good as Toronto's.....I miss Little India Town! Know of any good Indian Restaurants in Orlando? We've been to the one on Colonial Drive.....Woodlands I think is the name....

Is One Flight Up a lounge for coffee/drinks? Maybe we'll pass by there on Wednesday....

Made Eggless Tiramisu last night and going to eat it today...YUM!

Our slow cooker has been so handy....

We'll be eating the leftovers from a recipe I concocted....hubby likes it and so do I! =) The joys of using what's in the fridge! he he he

3-4 beef brisket (fat and membrane removed)
1 16 ounce can of stout beer (hubby had it in the fridge)
1 packet of onion soup
1/4 cup of A1 Steak Sauce
1/4 cup of Worcestershire sauce
salt and pepper to taste

We marinaded it over night in the fridge and cooked it on slow for about 8 hours and then 2 hours on high. Yummy!

We added veggies on the side!

Okay, I've decided. We're going to have T.O_2_Fl's Curried Tilapia with Mango Salsa. I thought I had all the ingredients but I don't. I'm going to have to run out for the serrano chile. (darnit)

I actually skipped the chili part and defrosted frozen mangos since the ones at the grocery store weren't that ripe... =)

I'm going to make it again this weekend....it was yummy and I'm going to pair it with a nice big salad...mixed greens with basil, mushrooms, tomatoes, roasted red peppers ...topped of with some olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Just made this tonight...YUM! Made it with a big side of salad...

Curried Tilapia with Mango Salsa

INGREDIENTS
1 mango - peeled and diced
1/4 cup chopped red onion
1 serrano chile, minced
1/2 cup cilantro leaves, chopped
2 tablespoons lime juice
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
1 tablespoon curry powder
1 tablespoon garlic pepper seasoning
4 fresh tilapia fillets

DIRECTIONS
For the mango salsa, combine the mango, red onion, serrano chile, cilantro, lime juice and salt in a glass bowl. Set aside.

For the tilapia rub, mix together 1 tablespoon of olive oil, curry powder and garlic pepper in a small bowl. Rub this mixture onto both sides of the fish fillets.

Heat the remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the fish for about 3 minutes on each side or until it flakes easily with a fork.

Serve with the mango salsa.

I try a lot of recipes from www.allrecipes.com.....
