Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)taxi in kiev
Brent,
Appreciate the info. With the dollar being on it's but and prices going up over there it is getting crazy. We have to travel to Cherkassy when we are there and it is up to 350 hryvnia each time. Do you know if that cab company goes south or just into Kiev?
Thanks,
Scott

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Picking up passport from courier office in Kiev
My wife is from Cherkassy and she picked up the package at the FedEx contractor in Kiev. They do not answer their phone> So you may have to just show up. After the interview we asked that the package be held due to the mail "service" in Cherkassy. Good luck.

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Timing of Kiev interview
Sorry, I forgot that I removed some detail...Our NOA2 was 11/2 and her interview was 12/21, visa in hand at FedEx 12/5 (issued 12/28). I know that this was 2 years ago, but how much could it have changed. It seems that everything else gets better.

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Timing of Kiev interview
Brad,
Look at my timeline, it is similar, what I did was nicely asked alot, downloaded and sent back the forms and they worked with me. I asked for any slot caused by cancellations. The biggest hit due to holidays was getting her passport back with the visa. I went to Ukraine on Dec 4 of that year without a scheduled interview. They finally acknowledged her paperwork the day I left to go there. She got interviewed a few weeks later. Good luck...

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Flight to Kiev, Ukraine: $1600.00 August 2008
Try Airgorilla.com, I found one flight out on the 25th and back on the 1st for $1083.93 + $120.52 (taxes) $1204.45 total. Make sure you check the taxes. Some of the cheaper fares have higher taxes due to stops and the higher initial fare ends up being less expensive. Good luck, we are going next week.

As far as the interview, if Vika is fluent she should have no problems. Though moral support is important...

Considering the interview can be conducted in English, Ukrainian or Russian... I assume she is fluent in at least one of those languages.. smile.gif

Ok, you got me....I meant, if she is fluent in English she would have no problem. The man conducting the interviews in english (not sure if he does the other languages) was very nice and helpful. Thats where I was going with that...

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Interview Scheduled in Kiev!!!
Brad,
I spent Christmas and New Years there a few years ago and really didn't notice a lot of things being closed, except on New Years Day. On "American" Christmas I experienced something unique, nobody except Mila told me Merry Christmas. It felt wierd... On New Years go to the city center in Kiev and check out the new years tree, and get slightly drunk with everybody else. We had a lot of fun and the holidays really did not affect us, and hey, how many times will you be in Kiev during the holidays?

As far as the interview, if Vika is fluent she should have no problems. Though moral support is important...

Good luck to both of you.

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)The Kyiv Beat......
Just some quick info on travelling with which name (Green card or Passport) and so on. We just got back from Ukraine and me being me, I bought the tickets and put my wife's ticket in her married name which did not agree with her passport. We went through JFK and on to Kiev. We had absolutely no problems whatsoever. We took her Green Card and several copies of our wedding certificate. We also carried a stamped original and a certified translation. The only time that anyone kept a copy was at check-in at JFK, otherwise they looked at the papers and sent us on our way. This includes both Ukrainian and US officials. I'm not sure if we were just lucky or if we caught everyone on a good day.

While in Ukraine we looked into geting her Passport changed to relect the name change...Uh, lets just say that her passport did not get changed. They told her that first she needed to be taken off of her dad's apartment (6 weeks), then she would have to apply to get her internal passport changed (3-4 months) but they had no forms for that and she would have to wait 6 weeks for a form. And then after the 5-6 month period of doing this she could apply to get her name changed on her international passport, but they cautioned her that if it was due to marriage outside of the country and she planned on living outside of the country she would have to apply for one of the infamous exit visas first...Another 4-6 months....Hmmm, her passport works just fine the way it is.

Wow, I like the sound of this system alot better than what it used to be... Good luck on the interview, are you going to be there?

Not for the interview, I've heard it's simple. The Kiev embassy can be a stickler for paperwork brought to the interview, though.

George

I was there and it went very well. The woman that went through the paperwork is a Ukrainian and seemed to know what she wanted to see. That took about 10 minutes of actually looking at what we had with us (we were both at the window for this). I then walked off to the restroom and they called her up for her interview, an hour early and out of order. When I got back other people that were waiting told me that she had been called and that she was behind these partitions. I sat down where I could listen. The guy that was conducting the interview was American and was very nice. He was patient and friendly. The questions were simple and he put her at ease, he could tell that she was very nervous. It helped that she opted to do the interview in English. The interview was about 5-10 minutes although it seemed like 2 hours! We were done and leaving before our actual appointment time. All in all it was a great experience, if you can, you should try to be there.

George, What day did you actually call for the interview?

I called Memorial Day evening/night about 2:00 AM EST from Michigan. That would make it 9:00 AM Tuesday morning in Kiev, the day after Memorial Day, May 29. I gave him the KEV number I received from NVC in N.H Friday the 25th. He asked if all was completed from the KEV-1 checklist, and I assured him it was.

He asked when I wanted the interview. I said the earliest possible date, so he set it up for the morning of July 3. He gave me a confirmation number, a specific time, and said my fiancee should appear 15 minutes early.

As I noted earlier, he wanted the English spelling of my fiancee's name from her international passport. So I called back that evening to give the correct spelling, and had to pay another $12. :(

All in all, the procedure was quick, efficient, courteous, and painless!

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Marriage with Ukrainians on K-1 Visa and Last Name Change
We traveled over in August of last year. Me being me, I bought the tickets in her new name. When we got to JFK on the way out we were questioned by the airline and had to give a copy them of our marriage certificate, just a photo copy. In Kiev upon entry she just gave them her Ukrainian passport, no questions asked. We tried to get her passport changed while we were there and were told that she would need to change both passports, internal and external. They said that it would take 6 months to get it done. We tried the offering of some cash and apparently found the one honest government employee, she wouldn't take it. We gave up. When we went to leave, we checked in with the airline using her passport, green card, and copy of the marriage certificate. Passport Control was the same, with no questions at all. Upon arrival back in the US just the green card, very quick and no questions.

We are not going to try changing it again as it just worked to easy.

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Tax documents for leaving the country - Ukraine
My wife left Ukraine in January of 2007 and there was no issues regarding anything from the Ukrainians, beyond the visa. When she got here it was only the visa and the infamous envelope. We have been back to Ukraine for a visit and the only issue was to have a few copies of your marriage certificate to explain the difference in name from her Ukrainian passport and her greencard. We were there in August of this year, no tax forms were ever mentioned. She is still on her parents apartment in case she needs some medical service while we are there.

Congrats on the visa... kicking.gif

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Travel for a visit to Ukraine while being permanent resident
It has been asked and answered a bunch, and will continue to be, hey that's now we learned. Ok, there are 2 schools of thought on this, I will tell you what we did in August. My wife is Ukrainian, I bought the tickets in her married name. We took a copy of our marriage certificate (take a couple) to explain the name change from her passport and her ticket. We were asked on the way to Ukraine by the airline at JFK, they wanted a copy for their file. When we got to Ukraine she presented her passport to passport control and did not get questioned. We didn't stop at customs as we didn't have anything to declare. When we were ready to come back, the airline looked at a copy and gave us our boarding passes. Passport control looked at the tickets and the copy and stamped her passport. When we arrived back at JFK, it was green card only.

Hope that this helps.

I think that my problem at the border is more that it is obvious that the boys are not Mila's kids. They ask and I am honest, however when my ex goes with her @#%$* live-in, they have the appearance of one big happy family. We really like Toronto, the varied culture, and the Russian markets are fantastic. We discussed moving out of the Buffalo area, my work will let me live anywhere, but the proximity to Toronto keeps us here.

When Mila and I cross by ourselves, no issue and no real questions. We met in Canada and both have a lot of friends in Southern Ontario.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresTouches?

Hi Everyone,

I see a lot of signatures and information on the site that show files as being 'touched'. How do you know this has happened? Is the USCIS site updated to reflect this? (I have subscribed on there with both my I130 and K3). It's only 75 days since my hubby sent off the I130 so I haven't yet experienced these :)

I also had a question regarding the costs of the K3, I know they are going up shortly and I have seen people quoting a AOS, EP and AP as being part of the costs incurred. Now the adjustment of status and employment permit I understand, but is the advanced parole actually a necessity or is it just a cost to bare in mind in case of emergencies?

When you log into your USCIS case file there is a date by each file. When that date changes that is a touch. It is basically whenever they do something or log into your case. As far as AP, we did not apply for it as we decided to wait on any trips until we had an I-551 stamp or green card in hand. It is a personal choice that is apparently getting bundled with the AOS package for the larger fee. I hope that this answers your questions. ;)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionK1 Interview checklist

Hi folks,

I've got my interview with the London embassy this wednesday and just wanted to confirm that I have everything I need. I can just see me getting there after all these months of paperwork, only to be sent home for having forgotten a form or something!

So far I have:

Interview letter
Passport
Birth certificate
Police record check (for UK and other countries)
2 colour photos
Evidence of support (which includes forms filled out by fiancee, and my co-sponsor and evidence of his earnings)
I-129F packet (which includes evidence of relationship)
I-797 NOA approval notice
Duplicate packet 3

Is that everything? And can someone please specify whay needs photocopying and what doesnt out of this lot?!
Luckily my fiancee will be attending the interview with me so that should make things a little easier, but still, better to be safe....

Thanks in advance,
James

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionUkraine Kiev embassy K1 members

JUST get Ukraine PC, I mean how will embassy know the difference? They will have no clue. Besides she was student and still Ukraine citizen. Also remember to get the PC translated to English or they will not accept it. They will want both Ukrainian version of PC original and the translated version and I do believe they will want to keep that original Ukrainian PC.

They will know if they look at her internal passport (propiska sp?) This documents show the citizens life history and current status of children, marriage, etc.... if I am not mistaken..... Remember we are dealing with a former soviet state that has only been independent for 15 years. Many things (such as identification documents) are still carry overs from that era.

My Fiancee had her interview in December and they did not ask for her internal passport. Do not take it in with you! The people at the 'paperwork window' are Ukrainian nationals and would recognize what it is, don't risk it. Take only the International Passport... Good luck

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical info for interview

Does anyone know what # they use at the Kiev medical examination office in the Ukraine?
Is it the A-# the EAC-# which is on my NOA1 or a totally different # that I have not received yet because I think they give a KEV-# I can not remember if the KEV-# was on the NOA2 or the info that was sent to her in Kiev from what I recall from doing this process 3 yrs ago.
My girl is getting everything ready so we can just make the interview and not worry about waiting on things like police report and medical and other paper work needed for interview. All she needs now is medical and I was wonder if we can get that out of the way sooner than waiting on NVC.

Thanks guys

The KEV# is the number on the top of the checklist that you receive from the Embassey in Kiev to prepare for the interview. It will also be on any corrospondance that you receive from the Embassey regarding the case. Along with the check list they give a list of the 2 medical centers in Kiev that are authorized to do the physicals. One accepts walkins and the other requires appointments. Remember to use clean US money.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 and I-864 questions
Hi, I mailed the I-129F paperwork in today, so now begins the waiting game. I wanted to go ahead and start work on the I-134 since I am sure I will need a co-sponsor, I just didn't have enough income last year and I don't have a stable job right now.

I am asking my brother and sister-in-law to co-sponsor. How long would they be responsible for my fiancee legally? I want to be able to answer any questions that have.

Do I just fill out a I-134 and have them fill one out as well?

When is a I-864 needed instead of the I-134? I just want to make sure I'm filling out the correct paperwork.

Thanks for any help and good luck to everyone!

God Bless!

James
