Asia: SouthPacket 3/4 question
Update - I used the less familiar email address for the New Delhi embassy after a week of no response from the main one. They responded within 24 hours this time and said they received the case and packet three has been sent etc. They didn't give me any date references but at least it's a response! Do you think if I call DOS back now they could possibly give me the date the embassy received it and sent packet 3? or should I just hang tight and wait until he gets it? Fyi, the two email addresses I used are listed under the Embassy guide.

Dilbert, you are lucky. I called the DOS this morning and they said it hasn't arrived yet! #######. I'm going to have my man call the embassy directly tomorrow to see what they have to say.

Dilbert... I sent you an email on your gmail account on how to track on dhl and how to call DOS to find out your info on your case number.
DOS tel no. is 202-663-1225. Try the following options in this seq (1x4x2x3x0), it will save you some time to listen to the automated options. You will get there in secs. Need your case number for them to look your case up. They will ask for the applicant (not petitioner) name before they release any info.

Thanks for the info! I think I'll give them a call tomorrow to see what's going on. I emailed the embassy on Sunday and haven't heard a response yet. I'm dying to know if they received it and if packet 3 has been sent!

Hi guys, I got my official letter from NVC today saying they sent out the case to Delhi on 20th and got the new case # which I already knew. wink.gif

Wow March 2nd interview date. I wonder which date I'll get? End of March? Sam has yet to receive packet 3 but he should receive it soon and I'm still gathering evidence for support etc.

I found out today that my case left the NVC on the 20th. I'm not sure how accurate that is but I'm currently tracking a package on dhl, hasn't arrived yet.

Ok I started to look at packet 4 to see what's going on with that. I'm now familiar with form DS-156 and DS156K (Did anyone else laugh when they saw how short this was? Not that I'm complaining!) I must say, the example form on this website for DS-156 helped me answer the questions that I was stuck on. Thank you VJ Gods.

Karri - Thanks. I will get ready the check list, the sworn statement at the bottom as well as DS 230 Part1 in the next few days. I am going to follow your foot steps in this process. You are a little ahead of me. Drag me along as you find anything. Are you planning on traveling to India? Take care. Thanks a lot.

Any confirmation of the links - Karri/ classic regarding the forms. Specifically DS 156?

The date at the top right of every form has an expiration date, use that as a guide if the form is still valid or not. The two places to get the most up to date forms are here:

USCIS

DOS

I personally don't like the DS 156 electronic form. But it states in the instructions that at the end of it it will convert the data into a pdf file with a barcode that contains the information you entered for faster processing, so I guess there is no way around that. And all forms are savable if you have the right software. whistling.gif ex. DS-230 part I.

I do have a Question. Are you checking ALL items. Specifically, what about
1. MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE: Applicant, my fiancee, has never been married before. I was, but it refers to the applicant. Should she still check that ?
2. TERMINATION of PREVIOUS MARRIAGE: Again refers to the applicant. She has never been married. I was and have a divorce decree (which she has and I had submitted on my K1 petition with the USCIS) ?
Should she check that as well. I have read that you should check everything or they make you. The checklist is just an acknowledgement that I am aware you ask for all these documents (which would apply to me needless to say) to be brought to the interview

Interesting question. Obviously every item on the checklist isn't applicable to every person so I would probably put N/A next to the check box. But go with your intuition.

Thanks Parul you are of great help here.

When I read the Delhi US embassy website, my understanding is that you will need to submit :
http://newdelhi.usem...acket309k1.html

1. DS 230Part1
2. Packet 3 check list.

Can I submit it now to the embassy, even before my approved petition reaches the US consulate. THe reason I asking this

My petition was approved on the 14th of Jan. I am traveling to India - had booked my tix last month to meet her end of this month. She and her family are going to be with me in the south from the end of Jan to middle of Feb. There is a high likely hood that her P3 is mailed to her Delhi address in the first week of Feb.
What are my options to avoid any delay in getting an interview since we are going to be in Delhi after the 15th?

I am getting back to the US in the week of the 23rd and would like to see if there is any (I know remote) possibility for her to travel with me or at least as soon as possible and avoid further delays.

You should not send it in until you confirm the embassy has your case. There are three things you need.
1. DS 230 Part 1
2. Packet 3 check list
3. Sworn statement from sponsor (at bottom of checklist) - you need the NVC case # for this before you can consider sending it in.

Dilbert - sorry for the confusion. All I was referring to was that you can call DOS and get the information that you can get from the Consulate (except that it may be next to impossible to get anything from the consulate). For instance, they can tell you if packet 3 has been mailed to you, whether it has been received if you have mailed it back, etc. etc.

Parul/Karri/Dilbert/CJVasani/Siyaram/others - I was looking at DS 156 and had the following questions. Hoping you guys can shed some light..

Here goes
Q14. National Identification Number --- My fiancee has an Election Commission of India ID Card and also, something called the PAN card (Permanent Account Number). What did you put there ?

Q22. When Do You Intend to Arrive in the US ?
I am assuming you don't know as it depends on the outcome of the interview. So, leave it BLANK ?

Q28. Who Will Pay for your Trip ?
I plan to go down and bring her here and pay for both of us. Should she say Herself or Myself and Fiance. If my fiancee says, she will pay... will they ask for proof ? Again, she will not have bought the ticket at this point.

Q32 Do you intend to work in the US ? Do you say Yes or No ? Example form on VJ says Yes and with work authorization, employer unknown.
I am trying to tie this question to #22 on DS 230, which says to list your employment history and then at the bottom asks In what occupation do you intend to work in the US ( I put N/A there).

Last but not the least,
Q34. Names and Relationships of Persons Traveling with you ? Example form says NONE. But I plan to go down after her interview to bring her back here. Should she then say, my name/fiance, right ?

Sorry, for the long list of questions. Appreciate any help/input you can provide.
Thanks

Sorry I haven't gotten to that form yet, Currently working on packet 3 requirements and trying to figure out what I need to bring over his family for the wedding, I'm buried alive in paperwork!

Ok just to clarify that means that in packet 3 there is:

a checklist that you need to show that you have all required items
DS230 Part I, what do you do with Part II ?
A statement from beneficiary that they sign

You don't have to pay fees at this time?

National Visa Center (Dept of State)NVC Process for K1 visas
Hi guys, I'm trying to research ahead for what will happen after the NOA2 is generated for the K1 visa and I'm confused about the NVC process. So after a week or so you can call the auto attendant at the NVC and type in your receipt #? If it's been entered, it will then tell you what your NVC case # is? Then what happens? Does the NVC send anything to the petitioner or beneficiary or does the beneficiary receive something (packets) from the consulate only? Also the auto attendant will tell you when it gets forwarded to the consulate? How do you know when it arrives at the consulate? Do you have to call the embassy?

Thanks =)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionI-134 Affidavit of Support Oath Part
Can someone please update the K1 guide? Bottom part step 4. It could be confusing to people as it states we still need it notarized in that section.

What to send to your fiance(e) once the I-129F is approved (Receive NOA2):
4. I-134 Affidavit of Support form. Ensure it is notarized (by a US Notary Public), with all required supporting evidence. Begin collecting the required information ahead of time, as it can often take several weeks to collect it all.

Does the embassy have these forms? The DS-156 is a form for the embassy so you might look at their web site. Some embassies have you file the form(s) electronically

Here should be all the forms you need;

http://www.embaixada...amp;itemmenu=58

Brasil requires a few extra than most I believe...

Some of them you can download and print but you cannot save them to your computer. The DS-156 (I believe) requires you do it online.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionBrazil Police Certificate (freak out time)
My finacee already has her police certificates. They were issued by both the Federal and SECRETARIA DE SEGURANÇA PÚBLICA. They both told her that she had to go to the Cartório and have them stamp it.

She says that the certificates are official and not xeroxed. Why would she have to go to the Cartório? I am VERY nervous because the instructions specifically state "The certificates issued by “Cartório” or “Fórum” are NOT, repeat, NOT acceptable, in any circumstances".

She *just* recieved Package 4 today and our interview is on the 27th. I doubt there is time to have the certificates re-issued if they gave us the wrong ones...

Anybody have any knowledge on this????

Thanks!

They were doing construction and I believe had rerouted everyone around to another baggage area for domestic flights, therefore bypassing customs.

Last time I was at Manchester I just was able to walk in. No one wanted to see any passports, etc. That was when they were doing construction about 2 years ago. I even went up to the guard to be sure that I hadn't accidentally missed something and he said I could just go.

Although there are many people who have been able to go through without a vaccine transcription there are also several who were given RFE's for not having vaccines completed (although they were) which put their application behind. Personally and for my peace of mind we had ours transcribed for $45 assuring us a smooth process, even if it might have been superfluous. The IO had the vaccine transcriptions that we sent in in our file at the AOS interview, so at least they thought enough of them to include them.

They will grant you the K-1 without all the vaccinations done, but there should have been a notation on the paperwork Knightsbridge gave to you which mentions if they are completed or not.

You K-1 medical should be valid for one year so if you file AOS quickly enough it will be sufficient. They should have given you a copy of your vaccine list at the medical (if not bring your own records). When filing for AOS you should just need to get the vaccines transcribed by a civil surgeon to say they are completed. As far as I know the vaccines needed should not change.

You can apply for a general Advanced Parole with your AOS application. It is free so no harm doing it. You'll probably be approved around 60 days after you submit it. You can also apply for emergency AP where you would get an Infopass appointment at your local service center and they can issue it on the spot if you can show the nature of your emergency.

What is AP - so many acronyms I feel like I'm in the military! Well, I'm now a military subcontractor so I better get used to it!

My fiancee was also checking the courier website after she knew the knightsbridge doctor had received everything she had asked for following the medical and interview. She did get an email a couple weeks after the doctor acknoledged by phone receipt of everything, the email stated our K1 case was in final review so that was when the courier website really got checked often. The indication of package enroute came on Nov 2 I think, and package a day later.

Advanced Parole. Once you enter the US on a K-1 visa you cannot leave again without forefitting your status. You must get married, and file AOS before you are able to leave the country with Advanced Parole. You just fill out an application and send it off with your AOS application and then 60 days later or so you have permission to leave the US while your AOS application is still pending.
