US Citizenship General DiscussionBank statements question
QUOTE (CanAmCharlotte @ Jul 12 2009, 05:54 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Collie,

The official USCIS Document Checklist for the N-400 application reads "....Tax returns, bank statements, leases, mortgages,......" for the necessary documents referring to you and your spouse.

When I filed my ROC I sent actual bank statements covering the two year period. Seems to me they're just asking for more of the same for this N-400 phase. If they wanted a letter from an applicant's bank, wouldn't they have been a lot more specific or risked having to send out a load of RFE's?

Agreed on this. I just sent tax returns for 3 years and the latest bank statement received before I sent the application. The IO may ask for more recent statements at the interview.

blink.gif @ I-130's, letters from bank officials and top dawgs....!

US Citizenship General DiscussionNumbering pages?
QUOTE (Collie @ Jul 12 2009, 05:43 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I hate doing these applications and trying to think of everything that USCIS wants to see/know.

Should I number and title the pages and write my A# at the top of each page? I did this with my I-751 but I don't know if I should do this for the N-400 as the package isn't as complex in its contents.

Thanks!

I think the IO's appreciate any attempt to better organize files as it makes their job easier as they won't look at the file (to the best of my knowledge) until the interview. Even though I didn't bother with this and it's probably unlikely that most people will bother, it is a good idea. More so if parts of your file gets lost in-transit between the NBC and the DO. With a A# and numbering system, there's a better chance of things being found and put back together.

US Citizenship General DiscussionI AM A NUT IN MY OATH CEREMONY
I work from home and tend to wear a t-shirt and sweats and flip-flops every day so I enjoy getting dressed up now and again. I'm really only applying for US citizenship so I can go to the oath ceremoney looking all fancy. wink.gif

US Citizenship General DiscussionMailed my N-400
Best of luck Collie!

As Kathryn said, things are moving pretty quickly, so hopefully you'll see that your check has been cashed within a week and something in the post soon in terms of the NOA1 and then a biometrics appointment.

The test won't be too difficult I think. I scheduled a week to study it starting from last night. I went over the flash cards twice, then scored 99 correct out of 100 when tested by my wife. So I forgot about the entire week of study and will glance over the flash cards again once more the night before the interview, which is next week. I am sure you'll be just fine in your interview/test also.

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 & Tax

An overkill? Depends on that idiot sitting on the other side of the desk, provided both for her for the last three years, she only wanted the federal for the last three years, but also wanted to see at least one utility bill with both our names on it. Isn't that also crazy? Putting more weight on a stupid utility bill than state income taxes.

Little gods we call them, can even be a 22 year cop that feels at a stop sign, should park there 24 hours before taking off, two seconds isn't long enough for him. Impossible to believe the huge number of a$$holes we have running our government.

I think it's like talking to someone at a call center Nick. They have a script in front of them or archaic guidelines and do not stray from that, no mattter how ridiculous. We people like that you cannot ask them to think outside of the box and try something new or different or even something that makes more sense as they'll ask you what box you're referring to? They see no box? Box? Huh? wacko.gif You just have to work with them as best as you can. When my IO asks for a utility bill, they will get plenty of choice, simple as that.

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 & Tax
Some states do not have income tax, which means a lot of people won't be able to provide state tax return documents which in turn means Federal tax transcripts are fine. That's all I sent with my N-400.

US Citizenship General DiscussionScheduled for interview. N400 errors
I don't have any typos to fix, but I'll have plenty of updates to make at the interview. The poor IO will have writer's cramp when he/she is done with me.

She said she only remembers the question she got wrong. She was asked, "What is the supreme law of the land?" She gave the answer "no one is above the law", thinking the question had been What is the "rule of law?"

An easy question to get confused with. The ones that mess me up are:
- What are two rights in the Declaration of Independance?
- What are two rights of everyone living in the United States?

My answers on Thursday if I am asked those will be:
- Next!
- Hmmm....a very good question.....

US Citizenship General DiscussionSending multiple sets of Passport Photos for 1st Time Passport application?
Overkill I would think KromiX. If the DS-11 form states:

- TWO RECENT COLOR PHOTOGRAPHS,

then I would think two recent photos are all you need. I cannot think of it being an issue if you send too many photos, they will just scrap what they do not need, but it's highly unlilely they are needed at all. Then as per Murphy's Law, after you send the two not required, you'll find you need them for something else and you're paying to get them taken again!

US Citizenship General Discussionshould I request the transcripts again?
QUOTE (CanAmCharlotte @ Jul 23 2009, 04:25 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Yes, no need to send sealed transcripts. My SSN was incorrect on two of the three! I had to get replacements.

As an aside, when we got our federal tax refund check this year, someone else's check was attached to ours! Instead of sending it back to the IRS, I just sent it directly to the person as her address was on the check. I figured the recipient would probably wait a month before she got it if I mailed it back to the IRS. She actually tracked me down and thanked me profusely so I guess I did the right thing.

Well done CanAmCharlotte!! That was a great decision! Going back thru the IRS would have delayed things a lot. Whenever you send me a check, I'll be thanking you profusely also!! tongue.gif

US Citizenship General DiscussionInterview question
QUOTE (mrPuffyBunny @ Jul 23 2009, 07:11 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi all.. I have a question about the interview...does the officer ask about every single line of the application? that would get really annoying... i mean.. basic info i would understand (like, name , date of birth.. wife name, date of birth, marriage dates, kids, etc...), but things like.. all the places i have lived in the past 5 years, or places i worked in the last 5 years..i don't know by heart, we moved around a lot, i mean it took me research to find some of that info, even my wife couldn't remember all the places we lived a long time ago.. ... thanks for reading

My IO went through every line of the application with me today. She just wanted yes/no answers to everything to see if anything had changed. I had a few changes to make and she updated the application accordingly. You are not expected to remember dates, addresses and so on, if nothing has changed, just answer yes when the IO asks did you live at xxxx from yyyy to zzzzz. No biggie really.

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 Signing of pictures
QUOTE (sweetpea1 @ Jul 25 2009, 06:36 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
This may be a silly question. Where does one sign the pictures at the N-400 interview process? Does one sign on the face of the picture? The picture specifications call for regular passport pictures. I know that when applying the A# and name must be written in pencil lightly on the back of the picture.

The reason for my request is that I notice on my spouse's Certificate of Naturalization which is 25 years old that there was an additional blank white strip on the photograph where the signature was placed.

Any info from someone who has recently been approved and had to sign his/her picture will be appreciated.

Thanks

When applying the A# and name must be written in pencil lightly on the back of the picture as you said and at the interview the IO will ask you to sign the front of the photos on the side using a pen.

US Citizenship General DiscussionAlmost completed citzenship, need to travel. What to do?
Good decision I think!

When I was at POE 3 years ago I was given ROC advice by the Border Patrol/Immigration Officer. Thankfully it was this website that ensured I didn't mess up when it came to removing conditions as I followed the advice listed by users on VJ which was correct as oppossed to the advice given at POE which turned out to be incorrect.

Congrats Charuhans! Well done also to BigRay, at least the IO held the interview and all you need is a copy of your Marraige Certificate. I have heard of some cases where the IO would not hold the interview at all. Let us know when you hear back from USCIS. I am sure it won't be long.
