K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsSeptember 2013 Filers

Just finished our interview in Moscow.  It was approved, and both my fiance and I are extremely happy.  It was almost a three hour ordeal, but we did meet some very nice people in the immigrant visa area.

I should qualify this a little. When I said a three hour ordeal, I was referring to the wait time for the interview. My fiancé was one of the last three to be interviewed on Friday in the Immigrant Visa area, and the actual interview only took about five minutes.

I didn't want to scare any one.

Congrats! We are planning on an interview in late March in Moscow. My fiancé wants to wait until the Olympics are over before heading there. We just received the consulate notice this week, so everything is moving forward.

Wishing everyone luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTrying to start this process and I had some questions my lawyer hasn't answered
I agree with dropping the lawyer. As long as your case is straight forward, it is pretty easy to follow, and using the VJ checklists is extremely helpful. Plus the community is very helpful when ever you have a question.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI'm the US petitioner for my fiancé who resides in england…filing next week.
Not sure about London, but in Moscow my fiancé had her medical on Wednesday the 19th, and the interview on Friday the 21st. We went to the clinic to pick up the medical results after 2pm on the 20th and they were ready. Btw, on my process, my fiancé sent me via email properly cropped photos as a 4x6 JPEG and I was able to print them out at the local pharmacy. We had no problems with this, and the quality was good. Only cost me $0.75 for a group of 12.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresRelationships that started via Social Media

Thank you for typing this. This was pretty much exactly what I was gonna respond to that. Time doesn't determine anything. Amazing how the topic of this thread morphed into something else LOL. I think relationships that start online can be just as real as any other relationship. I hate how some people say they're not organic because they didn't start in person. Just goes to show that some people really are stuck in a cave & not using the internet to it's fullest potential. I think LDRs have many benefits. One is that you're forced to talk because you're not in person, so your emotions aren't clouded with the mixed emotions that come from sex. That is how some people who meet online are able to move through those stages of the relationship so fast. That's why I decided to propose to my Fiancee before she even got on the plane to get here. Even before she landed, I already had the ring. That didn't scare her away & it shouldn't have, unless she's the wrong person for me. We both knew what we were getting into & we love every moment of it.

Marco,

I completely agree with you regarding relationships starting online. I talk about my fiancé quite often to friends and family, and as always the question about how we met comes up. I have no issues telling them I me her via an online dating site. They can think what they want, but I don't really care, if I hadn't decided to look, I would have never found her. And yes, with the LDR, it was quite an experience (and for me still is until September), we had to communicate and it allowed us to learn so much more about our everyday lives. We even created a sort of interesting language between each other where we can now tell what the other is thinking just through facial expressions.

Iliana,

Best of luck to you, it seems you are covering all the bases, and I wish you and your fiancé all the best. I am glad you started this thread as it has added a lot to the discussion regarding online meeting. I for one who chose to take the immigration route with my fiancé are appreciative of this forum and the experiences of others like myself.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresRelationships that started via Social Media
I met my fiancé through an online dating site and after 2 moths of Skype and emails, I visited her and her family in August 2012. We are both conservative, so on that first trip I stayed in a hotel, but we spent a great deal of time together. When I left, I truly wanted to propose, but I wasn't sure if she was ready, so my better judgement said wait and expand the relationship. Well a year later, and another trip to visit her (this time staying with her) and her extended family, we decided to get engaged and start the K1 process (Sept. 2013). Unfortunately, she was never able to get a visitor visa to visit here, but I introduced her to my family via email and skype, so she at least has some familiarity with them. One more trip later (March 2014) this time to Moscow to join her for her interview we were approved, and now we are counting the days for her trip over for the wedding (planned for September this year).

Whatever you decide just make sure you feel comfortable (which you seem to be). Personally, I am glad we waited ourselves as I made us stronger in my opinion, and quite honestly, with skype, email, and texting, we kept in touch 24/7.

Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan I get a One way Ticket??
You can certainly purchase a one-way ticket, but I found that a round trip ticket was cheaper. I set the return leg out six months, and we will either cancel it, or change it depending on how the AOS goes. Even with the potential change fees, it was still cheaper than a one-way.
