My husband sumbitted his documents today at VFS office, Hyderabad. They took the copy of the biographic pages and returned the original passport with a barcode attached to it.

Does anyone know if they count only working days when they say that you can submit papers at VFS office no earlier than 15 days and no later than 10? :help: :help: :help:

Asia: SouthQuestion about Police Certificate

Where did she get her passport? She also needs a PCC (Police Clearance Certificate) from the passport office (if the passport was issued more than 6 months ago). If she got her passport in Lucknow, she would need to get a certificate from there. Doc_cute also mentioned that Delhi does not like to give police certificates to people living in Delhi less than a year. If that happens, you could have her get the local police certificate also from Lucknow, showing she has lived there her whole life.

The main thing is to get the PCC issued and they are not very particular about where it is issued. My husband tried to get a police certificate from Hyderabad, where he lived for the last 2 years, but he had no paperwork showing he lived there (no bank account, ration card showing that address, etc.) so they refused it. He therefore got his local police certificate from the town near where he grew up (where his bank account and all other paperwork showed the address). Then he got the Police certificate from passport office from Visakhapatnam, where his passport was issued (though he never lived there in his life!).

I got PCC from both places where she was born and lived and also from my city. Even though she lived with my family for 6 months. The reason I got it from my city is because on everything that we have filed so far, it has my home address as her permanent address. I just didn't want to take chance. Also, I got another PCC from Lucknow passport office.

Hope this helps!!

hi everyone

i do not have any phone record but yes my hubby does have lot of hone records to my no...
whenever we submit relationship evidence can i sbmit his phone records to my phone number
will it feel weird by embasssy why i am submitting his details ,
coz i m thinking it will be very easy fo me to take out all the print out frm here n submit those too

my sound a weird question but i really didno have any phone record from my side prepaid system in india:(

You can use your hubby's phoen record that has your number in it. It is a proof that hubby calls you regularly and the Embassy won't ask you why you don't have your own phone record, i.e., your calls to USA. I sent my phone record to my wife and she was not asked anything about it. The consular officer just read some of our emails and smiled.

i can imagine whay the consular officer smiles readint the mailes the couples have

thank you so much dear mary , eileen and love (F)(F)(F) :)

so for now i will be taking out his print outs from yahoomail , voipstunts and from www.joinvip.com

since we share same password for our all e mails n bankaccounts n all other things too i will be taking it out myself he doesnt have to work additional to send me those

Yup, that will work. My wife only called me a few times from India and I have no records of that but I do have about 230 pages worth of call history from 2006-2007. She is on her way for the medical and submit the paper work at VFS office now. Hope everything goes well!!

Asia: Southinterview prep for chennai

Friends,

Here is an email I received from VFS about submitting docs in person plus 'Rush Service' to pick up the passport.
1. per this email you can authorize somebody but it is preferred to submit in person. ( I have made arrangements so that my wife will get her medical done and turn in the docs @ VFS )

2. Rush service - Passport is available for pickup "the day it is received from consulate". My next research item is to find out what is that day :-)) Will keep y'all updated.

Cheers
Ram

EMAIL CONTENTS FROM VFS -

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your email.
Kindly note it is required to sumbit your documents at VFS in person. If you not able to submit the documents, you can authourise some other person to submit the documents.

Rush service is an optional service by which you may opt to collect your passport across the counter at the US Visa Application Centre located in the city where you were interviewed on the day that VFS receives the passport from the consulate.

Applicants whose interview was scheduled at the Chennai Consulate may avail of the Rush service between 1600-1700 hours.

Your passport will be handed across the counter on the day it is received from the Consulate. If it is not collected the same evening the passport will be automatically dispatched to you by courier.

There is no additional cost to avail this service

Thanking you

hello all,
I had a question abt medical report. Do WE HAVE to submit it at VFS office or she can take it along when she goes for actual interview? Will there be any disadvantage to us if we bring the report directly to the embassy at interview date? ne suggestions/tips?

SONI IT WILL BE GOOD IF U HVE THE REPORT READY IT WILL BE GOOD TO SUBMIT AS THEY CAN THOROUGHLY REVEIW BEFOREHAND , ELSE IT ISNT A PROBLM IF SHE DIRECTLY TAKES TO HER INTERVIEW ALSO ,
NOT A BIG DEAL ,

I agree with Mala. My wife had it done and submitted to VFS yesterday but if you don't have it, you can bring it to the interview.

Hello all:

We got it!!!!!!!!!!
My husband's interview was successful today at chennai consulate.

Here is a brief summary of his interview process:

He had his medical on July9th at Dr. Sanjan John. Today, July12th, he went to the consulate at 8:00am. His interview was at 9:00am. He was able to go in early when he showed the yellow interview letter. Then, an Indian lady collected the draft, medical reports. After 2 hours or so, he was called for the interview. The questions are:
1. How did you meet each other?
2. When was the first time you met her?
3. Where does your father-in-law work?
4. My husband was in Russia for some time, so they asked why he was there, what did he do there?
5. What will u do after u goto USA?
6. Does your wife have any siblings? Is she younger or older? What is she doing?
7. When did your wife goto US initially?

After all these questions, the officer said, "everything looks good, you will get your passport and visa in courier within a week!!!"
And that was it. We were very stressed before the interview, but my husband said it was a breeze. They made him feel very comfortable.
Thank you everybody for your help with everything and Good luck to everybody.

Hey Guys,

We got approved.   It took less than 2 hrs and it was a cake. Had a great experience at the embassy and for the people who have interview scheduled in Delhi, DON'T WORRY it is really easy and smoooooth.

First, we were called at the counter just to verify the paperwork. The guy asked me if I was the petioner. He returned all the original papers to us. We paid the $100 fee in cash (US $)

We were called again about 30 mins later. A very nice American lady took her finger prints of my wife's index finger and asked her 3 simple questons.

1) Who made arrangements for your wedding. She thought it was arrange marriage and my wife played along and said our parents.
2) Is your husband Hindu or Sikh because our last name is SINGH. My wife said Hindu.
3) What does your husband do in US.

That was it. I am very happy!!

Coming back on 8th.

hello friends. i am doing the K-3(which i think was a mistake cause i won't save much time)
anyhow, looking at my timeline...when do you think my husband can expect his interview? i would really hope that its early october...but with this whole packet 3 business..i am not sure. what do you guys think?

neel006,
this question is hard to answer. look at my timeline. It toook 3 weeks for the case to transfer from Cali to NVC, where it just takes a week for other people. I personally know people who have filed after me, who got their approval after me (almost 1 month), and they already had their interview in july where in my is in august. I am just giving you an example on how things can be different for two cases(even if same servince center, consulate etc)

considering best case scenario, probably early october ( given that I have seen few people from delhi where they directly get Packet 4?) but who knows..people going thru delhi can pitch in...

gluck :)

Neel006,

If I were you, I would go ahead and mail P3. Just make sure that your case has been received at the embassy. We waited more than a month, and finally I downloaded P3 from Mumbai's website and submitted it. New Delhi embassy only requires you to submit DS-230 Part I for P3. PM me if you need more help!!

Hope this helps!!

My wife took 4400 during interview but was told to bring another DD for 4200 to the VFS office. It was a painless to do this since the Mumbai Consulate, State Bank, and VFS office are all on the same road but it did delay her getting her passport by a few days.

What should you do? Plan on a DD for 4200 but check the consulate website a few days before interview and take with you what they ask for.

I don't think that you have to have a DD, I submitted $100 cash and no questions were asked.

United KingdomHigh School Diploma?
I'm asking this for my husband who has began looking for a job here in the US. Every job ad is asking for a high school diploma. Since the UK doenst have such a thing, what is everyone using as proof of completing high school?

He says he passed the GCSEs (although he has nothing to prove it) and he has a few certificates from some courses he has completed at college level. Has anyone ever ran into this problem before? I'm guessing he's gonna have to explain the English education system at every interview.

Keith Thomas' Story

Letter from Keith Thomas
November, 2006

(Pictured left to right: Keith, Sandy, Anna & Simeon)

It is with great sadness that I write this e-mail to many of you eliciting your prayers for my family and me again. I have been denied the Residency Visa that I have been waiting for nearly two years to receive. I had to sign for the official letter last week.

On top of getting that letter, my immigration lawyer also told me that I am expected to voluntarily be making plans to leave the country (although they have not given me a time limit so far). I feel that this is very unjust and flies in the face of any rehabilitation beliefs of most people--after all, the reason I have been denied stems from two marijuana convictions from 1971 and 1975 when I was 17 and 21 respectively. I am now 52 years of age and have lived an exemplary life as a Christian Pastor in this church for the last six years.

Many of you do not know the whole Keith Thomas saga. In 1971, when I was 17 years of age and quite rebellious, I was convicted of being knowingly concerned in the importation of Cannabis (a stronger form of Marijuana) into England from Morocco on a cruise liner I was working on. Of course, this was before I became a Christian. Then again in 1975, at age 21, I was convicted of a second drug offense. This time it was “allowing my premises to be used for the smoking of Cannabis.” Basically I had friends around my home that smoked marijuana. For this second offense I was sent to prison for six months.

I found Christ some three years later after a search for meaning to my life after visiting many different countries. Three years after my conversion in 1977, I met the most beautiful, delightful, committed Christian I had ever come upon, Sandy, an American from Fort Wayne, Indiana. I wasn’t stupid, I asked her to marry me. After our wedding in 1980, we attempted to get a residency visa for me to live and work in the United States. Upon filling out the residency papers I was asked if I had ever been convicted of any drug offense. I was honest, due to being a Christian, and told the US Immigration of my two convictions in England when I was younger. I was denied a residency visa on the basis of the two convictions. One conviction could be waived due to being married to an American citizen but not two, even though the first one was committed when I was only 17. I was told then that I would never be allowed to live in the USA.

It felt like a curse over my head. My convictions had nothing to do with the US, but I found that if Sandy and I wanted to stay together we would have to live outside of her home country. I always felt in those early days that if I would be obedient to hear the call to minister the Gospel to everywhere God would send me, he would make a way for us to come and live in Sandy’s country, the United States. Since then I have struggled at the hands of immigration officers who still perhaps see me as a drug convict. In 1990, I was turned back at Chicago airport and sent home, leaving my pregnant wife carrying Simeon, and trying to explain to my 5-year-old daughter that I could not be there at the birth of her brother. Later on they allowed me to visit, but it was always after intense interrogation.

The years seemed to slip by, we have two beautiful children that are proud to be US citizens and carry American passports. By 1999 Sandy and I were both burned out as a couple and needing a change. Sandy was seeing her parents aging too fast as she looked at photos. She desperately wanted time with them. We had very little money for her to even visit. That year we found out that the law had changed and that it was possible to get a work visa if I was to apply on the basis of being a pastor in a Church of the same denomination. It meant that I had to get a job in a Vineyard Church as I was ordained by the Vineyard in 1990. Steve Sjogren, then the Senior Pastor of the Cincinnati Vineyard, happened to come to the area in England where I had been laboring for some time and invited me to the Outward Focused Church Conference in Cincinnati.

By faith I took a step risking the little resources that I had accumulated to buy my first computer. I spent my savings on an airplane ticket to come to the conference. My thinking was that I possibly would meet Vineyard Pastors at the conference and maybe I would get an opportunity to work with them and my family’s dream of time in their home country would be realized. When I came, I found the most amazing church with the same values that I had cherished in the church plants we had undertaken. I happened to look at the church newspaper and saw a job going as a Small Groups Pastor. I got the job.

Still, it took me 9 months to get my visa from the time I got the job at VCC. Talk about being in labor for 9 months! We had been rejected twice during those 9 months and in desperation one day I got on my knees and cried out to God. I was in tears and at a loss due to all the hope and pain that we had gone through. "God," I said, "you have to do something for my family and me, we can’t keep going on like this." I had come to an end of myself trying to find a way to bring my family home. While I was literally in tears, crying out to God and talking like this, the phone rang. It was the US Immigration! They were calling me to tell me to come up and pick up my work visa to work at VCC in the USA. I cried again! Words cannot convey the happiness in my heart as I caught Sandy, (we have now been married for 25 years) on her way home from work that day. She could not believe me at first but when I looked into her eyes and told her she was going home, we both cried and hugged and thanked God. The God I serve hears prayer!

Now we are up against it again. I can choose to leave the country voluntarily or the immigration officials are well within the law to come and put me in a cell and schedule me for a hearing before an Immigration Judge, who will hear me out before making judgment on my case. If I go voluntarily, there will be no black mark on my passport; if I stay and wait for them to haul me before an Immigration Judge it may hinder my chances of ever getting in again.

My son and daughter have already told me that they want to stay, after all, this is their country, their friends and relatives are here. It was upsetting for my son to leave England and his friends but now that he and his sister have been here six years they cannot conceive of leaving. The difference just in Simeon’s Geography and History classes would set his schooling back quite considerably. I can’t do that to him. I have to fight this out.

I know and have experienced that prayer changes things. Would you pray for my family that there may be a way for us to stay together in this country, the USA? The situation seems unjust to me. In Britain, after 7 years, all records of my past convictions are completely expunged (wiped out for all legal purposes). I don’t have to say anything about my past. The trouble is that the US government does not recognize that particular British law so my past reverberates into my future as well as my present. If the US Immigration will not realize that a person can be rehabilitated after 35 years, at what point in my life will it ever happen! Please pray that I can continue to serve in this great nation teaching the scriptures and building people up in Christ.

Please feel free to pass this on to people who will pray for us.

Keith Thomas, Community Pastor
Vineyard Community Church, Cincinnati

Prayer focuses:

Pray that God would show Keith and VCC favor by giving through any means He chooses the governmental allowance for him to stay with his family in our country and continue to serve.

Pray that God would be glorified in this situation and that neither Keith nor his family, nor our church nor the US government/British government would be defamed in any way.

If you'd like to share a word of encouragement with Keith via e-mail, send it to info@vineyardcincinnati.com.

I'm flying back to the UK this weekend from CVG on Delta but it involves a plane change at JFK flying directly into Manchester. The flight was reasonable I think for me and the boy the total was $1600 including taxes and fees trough Ultimatefares.com Which equates to about 700gbp you can always pay $50 to change the return flight (extend it) untill you are ready to go home for a visit or just not use the return portion at all (i've done that).

United KingdomTravel Insurance
I recently returned to England for a visit. I bought ins through the insistence of my mother $67 for DS and I and it covered medical and baggage etc... I'm glad I did now because our bags were delayed for 36 hours. The airline compensates you $25 a day and the insurance gave us $250 so we could buy the toothbrush and change of clothes.

United KingdomDid you get married in a hurry for the visa
We didn't tell our parents until AFTER and it was kind of fun!! Look at my timeline we were together 4 years before we tied the knot and even then between the proposal and actual deed there was less than 2 weeks! Go with the flow. Are you doing it for your family or for the two of you?

Completely normal!
I wanted nothing but my mother when I was pregnant!
Is there anyway she can come visit you? Nothing beats a mother's hug to make you feel better - no matter how old you get!

My mom won't be able to get away but my younger sister will probably come over. We are suppose to go to England again this summer with the baby so the rest of the family can meet him. I think I am just a little apprehensive because its all still a little foreign kwim?
