Hi everyone,

I applied for a passport book using normal service and it took 3 weeks and one day to receive my passport.
Maybe this can help you decide between choosing normal or expedited service. So I am making a timeline here, you might like to add your info too.

US Citizenship General DiscussionN400 submitted, forgot to include evidence
QUOTE (Diamond @ Jul 30 2009, 09:35 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Thank you for your responses, I'll post here if I hear anything about my paperwork soon. It's my fault for not reading all the instructions, it was my responsibility to read them carefully. Keep blaming myself.

I guess all I can do now is just wait and see what happens. I may try give them a call as well.

If anybody had any similar experience please post. I still hope that I can just bring the missing stuff to the interview.

I've read a lot of posts where marriage-based applicants did not include any proofs. I actually thought I went over the top by including half an inch's worth.

Don't worry too much. If they need it, they will ask you to bring it to the interview by sending you the "yellow letter". There's no such a thing as an RFE for N400 process.

Yellow letter or not, gather the documents and bring them to the interview.

Good luck!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionTouched - Why?
Thanks for taking time to reply.

I read in one of the posts that USCIS either randomly or picks out certain cases and marks these for interview, then gets sent to a local office so sit there until the interview schedule.

But since I haven't submitted my I-751 when my I-130 was touched, it seemed weird that USCIS will touch my file after almost 2 years of inactivity.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionTouched - Why?
Hi,

I mailed my I-751 packet today and was very happy to get that out of the way and start the waiting game. My status will expire in a month. A few minutes ago, I decided to log in to my USCIS account just to make sure that it still exists and that I could still remember my user ID and password.

When I finally was able to log in, I was surprised to find that my I-130 was "touched" 4 weeks ago. Why would USCIS touch my file if I haven't submitted anything yet? Is that something to be concerned about?

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionInterview for Condition Remove
Do you have any clue as to why you were called for interview? Didn't you have sufficient proof of a bona fide marriage? Is there anything extra-ordinary about your situation?

I know nobody can really predict why USCIS chooses some couple over others, but it would be nice to gather information so we can have a shot at a guess.

I guess if you have nothing to hide, there's nothing to be scared about, but when people are stressed, like I'm sure you were during the interview, they tend to make mistakes. And to have to wait for that decision should be even more stressful.

I suggest to start gathering more evidence in case they request for it.

I'm confused. So you went for an interview in April 2008. What was that interview for? Your conditional residence expires in Jan 2009. So what are you filing for now?

I got the interview for removing condition on residency on April 2008 & my residency is expiring on Jan 2009 (after a year extension in Jan 2008)

I recently submitted my I-751. I wanted to include as much evidence as I could, so I ended up with at least 50 pages, including the 2 tax returns.

I was having a hard time sorting through pictures, and ended up sending a whole bunch. After the adrenaline from compiling and sending that package died down, this thought kept bugging me : "What the heck was I thinking, sending that many pictures??"

No. But our I-130 was touched twice. I have no idea why it was touched before we submitted our I-751. It made me nervous for a while. We, of course, are hoping that this step will be as smooth as possible.

It was touched again 2 days after CSC received the package, so I'm guessing it's because a letter has been sent out.

The question is not for me but indulge me.....

For the past couple of days, I can't wait to go home and check our mailbox.

At work, I get excited around 2pm, thinking that the mailman could be sitting in front of our mailbox with the most awaited letters!

I check our status online every chance I get.

I think I caught the exact minute that our check got cashed.

I've read almost all posts in this forum related to our case.

Yes, this process has driven me crazy laughing.gif (just me, hubby is as cool as everl)

This obsession has to be some kind of disease. I wonder if someone has come up with a name for it?

Do I have to make a copy of my entire package to keep? I have all of the originals of course. Does anyone else do this to know exactly what they sent?

Thanks

We copied everything except the pictures and our tax returns. Just so we know the exact order of documents that was submitted in case we need to go over it in the future.

We have electronic copies of our tax returns that we can print out if necessary.

Including the pictures in our submission was a last-minute decision, and we regret not making copies because now we have to sort through thousands of jpg files to print those that we pulled out of photo albums.

I also got an RFE and cannot access the receipt number online. I submitted my I-751 in April 2007 and of course it was transfered to Vermont. I had been checking the status online and then out of no where I get something in the mail. I thought this was good, but it is a RFE. I submitted a lot of stuff the first time, but a lot has happened since submitting it...ie bought a house, had a child, bought a timeshare. So I have lots more to send in. Unfortunately, I do not have any utility bills in both our names. We were living with my in-laws priour to last year, and then when we bought the house everything is in my husband's name - I didn't even think about immigration stuff as I had already submitted the I-751, oops on my part. Does anyone think this is going to be a problem? Should I mention it in my coverletter or just send all the documents I can?

I would just send all documents that I can and not explain why the bills are under your husband's name. You have more than enough to prove that you're legit. Maybe they just want updated evidence.

Good luck! I'm pretty sure you'll get an approval very soon.

Ha, also when you receive your first green card, do a diary on your address, employment, and the trips you have taken outside of the USA that lasted over 24 hours if you plan on applying for citizenship. Kind of difficult to remember all that stuff after five years.

All in all, how many times does the USCIS need our fingerprint?

If we get approved, or if our I-751 is still pending 90 days before our 3rd year of becoming a LPR, we can apply for citizenship - and they need our fingerprints updated AGAIN? For some of us, that's just months apart! Why???

You said "I live with my parents" and not "we live with my parents". In another post you said "he works in San Jose and he's there all the time". Where does he stay?

In your first post you said that you are submitting an apartment lease. Is it under your and your husband's name?

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussiontravel while waiting for approval
My husband and I traveled a few times when my GC was about to expire. A couple of times, the officers pointed out the expiration date and I just assured them that I was aware of it.

One time, we handed our passports and the officer was taking a long time checking stuff on his computer. My USC husband said he knew that my status would give us inconvenience at some point. Then the officer looked up and cleared ME and ordered my USC husband to go to a room where he was questioned for a good half hour. It turned out that he has a very common name and had to go through extra security clearance.

My point is we, immigrants, are not singled out. These things happen even to USCs! Some officers are just doing their job and some can be over zealous. Let's just keep believing that this country is a safer place because of them (Amen innocent.gif )

Do you have to go through biometrics again? If so, aren't you worried they may schedule you while you're traveling? You may want to have somebody check your mails for the NOA2.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionDo I need affidavits?
We didn't send affidavits just because we didn't want to inconvenience friends and family. If USCIS issues an RFE for it, we have friends and family members who will be happy to help us.

But someone just started a thread on an RFE issued for affidavits. I believe Russian_Armenian is trying to get more info from the poster so we can guess why USCIS sent this rare RFE.

Like what the others said, there's no harm in sending these, and you can never have too much evidence. Some couples sent all the evidences they can imagine and still get vague RFE for stuff that were already submitted in the first place. I wonder if anyone thought of a 'reality TV' type of documentary --- have a TV crew follow them around for 2 years and send clips to USCIS. biggrin.gif
