How many folks are submitting affidavits?


i didn't have any affidavits from friends and family in the package i submitted... i do believe though, that i've got more than enough evidence to prove bonefide marital relationship... but had i known that affidavits would help, i would have included some in my packet...

My husband and I will file at the end of this month at the VSC and noticed they have wait times anywhere from 4 to 11 months. Since my husband is working full time, what happens is we are not approved on time and his green card expires? Is there anything we should do to cover the gap or is anyone else running into this situation? Any advice is appreciated!

Does the USCIS accept cashier's check with the I-751? Or they only accept personal check and money order?



I'm pretty sure cashier's check is okay.

I sent personal checks so I can "track" my application until a case number became available. Knowing that my checks were cashed reassured me that, at the very least, I filled up the forms correctly. I also sent the package by courier so I could have a confirmation that USCIS received it. It's just a personal preference which, I've observed, is shared by majority of members in this forum.

Ask the wife to keep immigration out of the equation just for a minute or two.

Relationships go through certain phases. People change. Sometimes you never know the person until you're married and the honeymoon stage is over.

If they were a regular couple, would she put up with the perceived changes in her husband's personality? Would she put more effort on keeping the marriage and adjusting her expectations instead of being bitter and thinking of ways to punish him?

As important as immigration to our lives, let's not allow it to run our lives more than necessary.

I've read a couple of cases where they missed the deadline - but not on purpose.

I definitely recommend shelling out those extra dollars.
Is the money you're going to save worth the risk of your case ending up on the desk of an officer who is having a bad day or too much caffeine?

USCIS is very specific with the 90-day window. IOs even emphasize this after the AOS interview.

If you're mind is set on becoming a citizen of this country, my advice is do not delay! Apply as soon as you are qualfied.

Personally, I don't want to have to keep log of every traffic ticket, every address, every job and every trip I make for the next 10 years. I don't want to keep piling bills and other documents that I will need to support my application 10 years from now. And I don't want to discuss with a total stranger the bits and odds of 10 years of my life. I want to vote and I want to have all the rights afforded a citizen because i pay the same taxes as them. I want to be in the fast lane when I come home from travel abroad. I don't want to be disqualified for a job just because I am not a citizen. I don't want to pay 20x or more for the application fee in 2019 . I'm sick of catching up with changes in immigration laws. I don't want to be constantly afraid that my green card will be revoked for reasons unforeseen.

I'm pretty sure I can think of more reasons why I can't wait to get qualified for citizenship, but that will do for now.

I know someone who tried more than a dozen times for a year to get her fingerprints done. No kidding. She had sweaty palms. The weird thing is that the skin on her hands peels off like dry skin, so she has to put on moisturizers. Her fingertips are so smooth, they couldn't get good prints off them. She had to go to several doctors and dermatologists to get treatment.

Don't reschedule!!! Try walking in. If they are not busy, they will accommodate you without any hassle. Just be very nice to the guard. The people inside do not care whether you have an appointment or not.

If it doesn't work the first time, try again. Re-scheduling should be your last option.

I almost re-scheduled too. Thanks to the advice of other members, I saved myself the trouble and possible delay on my application. I walked in on a Saturday 2 weeks before my schedule. The guard didn't even wait for me to finish my excuse for being there before my appointment date. I was in and out in about 20 minutes.

I sent original 4x6 prints, attached 2-3 pcs on sheets of paper, then attached labels describing briefly the events on the pictures. It made my package realy bulky and I had to use a separate fastener for the pictures (I went crazy and sent a ton of pictures tongue.gif ). Only reason I did it was because I found a good deal online for volume print orders and I needed to order a bunch of prints from recent vacations and holidays anyways. Spur of the moment - wouldn't have done it if I stopped to think. My advice is to send photocopies or print them on regular paper.

BTW, do you mind sharing what exactly the RFE letter says? Some letters are very specific, some are somewhat vague.

If you have a stamp, it shouldn't be a problem, although some people have experienced some inconvenience and even harassment in the airport when they came back.

Also, you have to be prepared to come back in a short notice IF you are called for an interview.

My family is also planning a trip to my country this summer but I'm reconsidering it after reading some posts.

Even when my family moved to a new place and applied for new utility accounts, we had a hard time asking those companies to put both our names on the bills. The best that some of them could do was add one of our names in the address field because their system doesn't allow for 2 names.

And even if it will save us more money if we just get individual health insurance with each of our employers, we decided that I should waive my benefits and let him add me as dependent so we can have more proof.

And before we got married, we always preferred paperless billing. So when we were getting our submission ready, we discovered that we have credit card accounts that are still in our old addresses.

We both had some years of car payments left so we just kept our separate accounts.

It's a good thing that inspite all these, we were able to gather enough evidence to prove that we are legit. But USCIS sometimes sees things differently - so unless I get the approval email, I will always be stressed out. I've been reading posts with RFE so I can be prepared if we get one, since there is a time limit to submit these. If you don't mind, what did you submit and what additional evidence did they request?

Don't let the RFE stress you out too much, especially because you're pregnant. You have plenty of proofs, it's just a tiny bump. And based on other cases I've read in this forum, cases get approved a week after USCIS receives the new evidences.

BTW, what's your I751 timeline? It's not on your signature or VJ timeline.

I'm so sorry about your predicament. I wish you the best of luck. It's just surprising that you were issued an RFE even if you have a child together. I also believe that you shouldn't hesitate about the fees, although I get your point that it's not so much about the money, but you wanted to make sure that you can really re-file.

This forum exists so members can help each other, and also so that members can learn from other members' experiences.

I hope you don't mind telling us what additional evidences did they ask for? What did you submit initially? When did you submit the first application? Are you now still in the 90-day period?

I was so sure we'd get an RFE:

1) Our tax returns for the last 3 years, although filed jointly, had different address from the rest of our evidences (Address of a house he owns, under his name only)
2) No joint car insurance
3) No affidavit (Didn't want to bother friends and family)
4) No joint credit cards
5) Driver's Licences have different addresses (DMV never processed his request)

But we did submit a ton of pictures, bills, health insurance, 401K, bank account statements and lease agreement.

Just one more step and the journey ends!

I DID receive an approval notice in the mail. No card yet.

First came the email that says "Card Production Ordered on September 5". (When I checked my status online, it says "Card production ordered on Sept 4".)

Today, I received a letter in the mail that says "Congratulations! Your request for the removal of the conditional basis of your permanent residence status has been approved. You are deemed to be a LPR of the U.S. as of the date of your original admission or adjustment of status. You should receive a new PR Card, Form I-551 (green card), within 60 days" , etc.. The letter is dated Sept. 4th. It's form I-797C Notice of Action.

It also says the green card will come with mailer form I-797D Notice of Action.

60 days!! I sure hope it's a lot sooner than that.

I didn't think that USCIS actually calls the green card a "green card". But there it was, on black and white, on an official USCIS paper, from the director, Christina Poulos.

Then at 8:15 pm, I received an email that says "Current Status: Approval notice sent. On September 9, 2008, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this CRI89 PETITION TO REMOVE CONDITIONS OF PERMANENT RESIDENT STATUS RECEIVED".

Oh well, we all know that USCIS can be inconsistent. As long as we get the actual card, it doesn't matter how many different ways they communicate with us.
