K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsFebruary 2010 Filers - California Service Center
Our interview was on 8 June and the passport+visa was picked up by DHL the evening of the 11th. We should have it in hand by Tuesday and will come back to the US on the 18th--for good!

We had our interview earlier today and after hours of waiting and a one minute-long interview, were approved for the K-1 visa. Now we're just waiting for the passport+visa before returning to the US on the 18th.

Will post more details and a trip report on the RUB forum...

We just found out that we can get the police certificate in a week if we pay an "expedited service fee", so it looks like we'll be able to keep our June 8th interview date in Moscow! Now we get to play the airline booking game and find the most flexible options at the cheapest price in case we need to reschedule due to delays in actually getting the visa in hand. For a June 8th interview, we're thinking of initially getting the flight home on June 12th...gotta go back and read what others have done first, I guess.

So close.

Sigh...we may actually have to reschedule our interview. All this waiting and now that we're at the proverbial pearly gates, we're not ready. It's going to take 3-4 weeks to get the police certificate, but the Chelyabinsk police station only accepts walk-ins on Mondays. May 3rd and May 10th are Russian national holidays, so the earliest we can do this is May 17th. If we can't pay the "expedited service fee", then we're probably cutting it too close for a June 8th interview.

Time to search the forums to see what others have done regarding reschedules. Poop.

Posted Image Thought so...... I also see you have been tracking the journey of the petitions ! Nothing like a volcano to add a few extra days !!!!

Did you receive a letter from NVC saying the petition was on its way ? I did yesterday

Yep, we got ours a couple of days ago--we're going to start bugging the embassy next week :) Olya's going to call the Chelyabinsk police station on Monday to see if we can start the police certificate process via email/fax and then pick it up in person before her interview...

Hey Varyag,

I'm about a hundred miles west of you .... we do have a pretty good " Russian contingent " here in the midwest.

Salsa ..... didn't I see Chicago somewhere in your profile ?

Yup, I'm in the far West burbs (Bartlett), though I was born in Chicago...fiancee is from Chelyabinsk.

Called the NVC on Monday (our NOA-2 date was 5 Apr 2010) and was scolded for not waiting 15 business days.

Called again a few minutes ago and got a very nice woman who confirmed that our I-129F was received on 12 Apr 2010 and is being sent to Moscow today.

Woohoo!

We got a touch on 2 Apr, 4 Apr and 5 Apr. Just got the email and text notifications of the NOA-2 less than an hour ago.

Olya is in the USA now on a tourist/B-2 visa, so we're going to go celebrate and plan her brief return to Russia for the K-1 interview :)

So I've been looking up other case numbers on the USCIS site...so far, I've found two other I-129F petitions with NOA-1 dates the same as mine. One of those got a touch on 5 Mar 2010. Could be nothing, but since I'm obsessively looking up other case numbers, I'm hoping it's an "almost-NOA-2" touch.

:energy:

I'm finding that the difference between waiting for the NOA-2 and being a child waiting for Christmas morning is that we can't peel back the tape on the giftwrap to see what we got :clock:

Okay, so it's not a perfect analogy, but the impatience is just as compelling :)

My I-129F was received on February 19th, but my check hasn't been cashed yet and also, a scan of the return signature card was emailed to me, but it was completely illegible. How did you guys find out so quickly who signed for your application? I hope I get my check cashed and my NOA1 in the mail SOON!! Good luck everyone.

I sent my I-129F package in via Express Mail. On the USPS web site, you can request signature proof--within a few minutes I got a PDF with the person's signature on it and it was legible to me. Linda Fairbanks signed for mine and her signature was pretty legible.

My I-129F was received on a Friday. The following Monday was a holiday (President's Day) and my check posted with my bank on Wednesday. So--two business days after receipt.

Tried to get an electronic copy of my check but I couldn't read the case number--so I requested a hardcopy be mailed to me. It's hopefully sitting in my mailbox now waiting for me to grab it :)

Actually, the worst that could happen is you get the B-2 visa but are denied entry at the POE by the ICE officer because he sees the I-129F petition has been filed.

Yeah, I'm still trying to work that one out. I guess we need to get past the B-2 interview first. If that succeeds, then we'll set up some kind of back-up plan...maybe I'll route her through somewhere that does preclearance like Nassau. If she gets turned away there, I can hop over and we can spend a week or two in the Bahamas before she has to go home.

Will post our updates. I think we're being realistic about our chances but we figure honesty is the best policy here. It's just a matter of whether or not the Yekaterinburg interviewer believes that the intent to immigrate is solely with the K-1, not the B-2...

Gonna try a B-2 while waiting for the K-1 to get to the next steps. We're fully aware of the unlikelihood it gets approved, but the worst that happens is we're out the filing fee. If anything interesting happens, will post an update...

Hey Salsa Shark,

So on the back of our check in one corner it says: (X's are letter and or numbers)

"For Credit to U.S. Treasury
DOJ/USINS X7 XXXXXXXXXX
XXXXX WAC XXXXX XX-XX-XXXX
----------------------------------
WACXXXXXXXXXX"

That is exactly as it appears and our WAC number was the one below the dotted line. On the USCIS website I entered WAC with the 10 digit number.

Hope this helps!

Actually that does help a great deal...I can see where that is now--it's just not clearly legible on my check, unfortunately.

Guess I'll wait for the hardcopy NOA-1...it's certainly a challenge balancing patience with the urge to constantly check for updates :)

On the front of the check, I see "This is a a LEGAL COPY of your check. You can use it the same way you would use the original check." Right above that I see a 10-digit number. Right above that is the date the check posted. And right above that is a 9-digit number with an asterisk before and after.

On the back of the check, I can clearly see the "For deposit only...US Treasury...Citizenship & Immigration Service...California Service Center" stamp. There are various other printings on there as well---but nothing that starts with "WAC".

Bummer.

Hi Salsa...
You applied to CSC correct? You should see a WAC########## type stamp on the back of your check. The WAC number is your case number for the petition.

No visible number...I don't even see the letters "WAC" anywhere on the back. I don't think it's that the number is really missing--I just think it's just illegible. There are marks on the back of the check that I cannot translate to anything readable...

I got my check copy about a half hour ago. Either there is no receipt number on the back or it's just not legible in my case.

My check was cashed yesterday. Not sure how people are seeing their case numbers so quickly, but I put in a request to my bank for a check copy, which they don't normally do unless a monthly statement has already been issued.

One small step closer :)

Hoping for an NOA-1 next week...

We've now joined the February 2010 Filer's Club. I-129F went out today via Express Mail. My fiancee is from Chelyabinsk, Russia. We've been seeing each other for two years now. Met on Elena's Models and have since vacationed in Prague, Egypt and the Bahamas. I strongly recommend two of the three :)

Hoping for an NOA-1 by the end of next week.

By the way, I noticed that the ZIP+4 is listed wrong for the California Service Center--made a separate post on it.

Good luck to everyone--I'm anxious to post some progress on our application.

Sorry, I didn't see any other posts about this.

I got a response back from USCIS acknowledging the error but that it wouldn't affect processing. They didn't say one way or another if or when they would fix it, though.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWrong ZIP+4 code for I-129F filing (California)
I did a quick forum search and didn't see any matching posts, but I would find it hard to believe I'm the first to notice this.

On the USCIS page, "Direct Filing Addresses for Form I-129F, Petition for Alien Fiancé(e)" at this URL:

http://www.uscis.gov...00045f3d6a1RCRD

It shows the California address as:

California Service Center
P.O. Box 10130
Laguna Niguel, CA 92607-0130

This is actually wrong. The ZIP+4 should be 92607-1013.

I assume packages sent to the listed ZIP will still get there, but I'm wondering if anyone else experienced any delays as a result...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresusc visiting foreign fiance

I don't advise the foreign fiance to visit the U.S. fiance when the K1 process is underway. I know that people have done it but i would not take the risk.

What's the actual "risk" in this? The worst that happens is that they deny the B-2 request, yes? As long as he/she follows the rules if the B-2 is approved, there's no risk to the K-1, is there? He or she has to fly back home for the final interview anyway, right?

Just trying to understand as we were going to give this a shot ourselves. We thought the worst that would happen would be a denial of the B-2 or, worse, a denial at the POE. So, outside of the money, we didn't see this as a threat to our K-1 processing...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWill application for B-2 hurt my Fiance's chances?

Hi everyone, Great site.

I am a US citizen going to visit my Fiance in Dubai, an Iraninan national for the first time in a few days. We are planning to apply for a visitor Visa for her.

I am planning to file for K-1 when I return from Dubai.

If her B-2 application is denied which is very likely, May that hurt her case for K1 when it gets apporved??

Thanks much

I'm going through a similar process right now. In our case, the K-1 has already been filed and we're in the "waiting for the NOA-2" phrase. We're going for a B-2 in the meantime.

Everyone I've spoken to with personal experience and/or authority with this has stated that a B-2 denial will have no affect on a K-1 as long as you are/were truthful during the B-2 process.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan the K-1 interview location be changed?
Hello, all,

We just got the text/email notification for our NOA-2. My fiancee is Russian, but is currently with me in the United States on a B-2/Tourist visa. A couple of people have mentioned that it should be possible to change the interview from Moscow to the United States if we can catch the NVC at just the right time.

Has anyone actually tried and done this successfully? My concern about it in our case is that we have not gotten the police reports yet and I am not sure if we can request those by mail...I presume they would still be required no matter where the actual interview is held?

Thanks!
