Due you think I'd be able to book a medical for June now? Or would they make me wait a couple more months? I want to book it before I go away.

as long as you have your NVC number--the number the NVC gives you on the white piece of paper in the mail--you can schedule it smile.gif

Yeah I know that, I have my Packet 3 anyway. Just wondering if they will have an issue with me booking it so far in advance. I suppose I'll find out tonight.

Pat could not book hers more then 30 days out. You can certainly try though. It's not like they are going send you to detentions or anything.

I had to change my travel plans twice trying to find better ticket prices for my trip to see Pat in 2 weeks. The difference between departing on 2 different weekdays changed my fare from $1,050 US to $525 US.

I don't even want to think about what a flight there in May for her interview will set us back.

Hi UK forum!

I've been sort of lurking around here while I waited for our NOA2, and now I can join THIS thread, as I just got it in the mail this afternoon - which puts us between NOA2 and interview!

I'm Heather, the USC, and Nik is the UKC...looking forward to sharing this (hopefully speedy!) part of our visa journey with you guys!

Welcome to the fray and congrats on the NOA2! 43 days from NOA1 to 2 is amazing! I hope the rest of your journey goes as well.

I just found this whilst booking some travel at work (the site also deals with visas):

'The US Embassy is going to be closed between Monday 30th March and Friday 03 April..'

Doesn't give a reason why though.

Um, heading to Cabo for spring break?

It's been mentioned a few times that for US immigration medicals are only done at the Bentinck Street location even though the website says otherwise. They do medicals for other countries too so maybe their website is generic.

http://www.visamedicals.info/index.asp

I stand corrected. Yes, Bentinck Street is where Pat is scheduled to go.

im glad that things are moving along again for you. : )

There are two locations for medicals. From the Embassy Website
The medical examination is performed at one of two medical centers in London. The medical examination cannot be performed by the applicant's own physician.

Our paperwork arrived at the embassy 4 days ago. Pat requested her police certificate (expedited), she and I are going over the forms she needs (230, 156, 156k 157), and she just get her medical for sometime in mid-April when I'm there.

Waiting for packet 3 and the police report now.

Took me 2 re-dials to get past the busy signal yesterday evening about 7:30pm NVC time. I was on hold for about 10 minutes before I got to speak to someone.

So far with 3 calls there, I have to say they've got some great staff. This last one sounded actually bubbly when she told me our case had been sent on to London.

Sigh, now its Packet 3 prep time. Thankfully we took care of the letter of intent and sponsorship stuff back in December when Patricia was here. Guess I should think about adding 2008's tax return to the stack since we'll interview after April 15th. (Sorry, just mental babble here.. I do that a lot since proposing)

I went through the same thing in calling NVC. Tried several time throughout the day before finally getting through. Turns out our case was sent out and tracking via DHL shows it was in London already. That was FAST.

I'm flying over to Manchester on the 27th and we are hoping she can get the medical done while I am there. She's calling today with the LND# to see if she can get an appointment. With any luck, I'll be back there for the interview and help her pack sometime in April.

My only other concern is the the £ to $ ratio is really at a low point right now (1.376! mad.gif ). We were hoping it would be back to something more average and above 1.6 by now. May have to wait on transferring money over here if this keeps up.

UGHHH...the exchange rate was 2.10 in Feb 2008!!!!! what the heck. last time i checked it was 1.41 here. This really sucks...we are barely going to get anything extra for our pound to $ ratio. yuck.

We got approved this morning....sadly I haven't been able to talk to stuart about the whole thing yet because his phone is being stupid on the train....so all I know is "We got APPROVED...see you in 2 weeks beautiful"....that was sent at 5:33am to me. so hopefully ill be able to talk to him soon.

So now onto the next steps I suppose. MARM--we will have to start a UK thread from Interview through AOS process smile.gif keep everyone together on this good.gif

IF and when Pat sells her house, we may have to leave the money in England until the exchange rates come back to normal... (LOL @me pretending to know anything about money)

That's great! Lot's of good news on VJ this morning... some other December fliers have got their NOA2, our stuff left NVC bound for London, and of course your interview. Looking forward to Stuart's review of the Virgin train from Manchester, the hotel, and the interview.. Pat and I will be making that same run hopefully soon!

(It almost makes me want to be a fly on the wall at O'Hare's Terminal 5 when he gets here.)

Thanks for the nudge on the exchange rate.. reminds me I need to buy some £'s before I go to see Pat in a few weeks. We're also hoping the exchange rate heads back to be more favorable by time she moves.

We had this trip planned since December and have kinda lucked out for the timing of her needs for the medical. I am also planning on being back there for her interview.

I tried calling NVC yesterday but they were busy, I don't like the fact that you can't be put on hold but instead have to keep calling back. So I decided to call the expensive embassy number and see if they had my case, apparently it arrived a couple of days ago and I would expect to hear from them soon (yeah right). He gave me my case number too. Luckily I wasn't on for too long.

Kinda my way of thinking too. And if it takes more then one year from this point, we've got bigger problems then re-doing a medical.

ive decided that you probably already knew all of that stuff i spouted up there. ive also decided that you wanted to know roughly how long it takes to get a medical with the knightsbridge doctors in london once you have contacted them. :l im slow. sorry.

since we have not scheduled one, i cant tell you personally, but it seems like they have a lot of availability. i thought it said 1-2 days on the website when i checked the other day, but i dont see that time frame there now. instead it currently says,

The practice is open on Mondays to Fridays from 9am to 5pm.
For appointments, please call 020 7589 8965 .
Appointments can usually be offered promptly at a time to suit you.

which also sounds promising.

i believe you can book your appointment once you have received your LND case number.

(it's very possible that i am just posting to read my own advice and see if it makes sense. ignore me. : ) )

While on the subject of medicals... I just called the NVC and got our LND number (K-1 visa) At first, the very nice lady at the other end of the line did not want to give me the number. I explained that we wanted to set up an appt for a medical. She went on to explain that we should not do that until packet 3 was received and returned. In the end she gave me the number.

This waiting seems to clash with traditional VJ wisdom, that says make the appointment as soon as you can. Is there such a thing as too-early for a medical?

We just got our notice saying that my case had been completed on Friday. Today I am going to start calling the NVC to check if they have assigned me an interview date. How long has it usually been taking people? When should I call up to get a medical with one of the doctors? Do I have to wait to be assigned a doctor also or do I just call?

First of all congrats on the approval and welcome to the pre-interview thread.

Today will be too early to call. I tried calling a week after we received out NOA2 (spoke to a real person as Nich-Nick outlined above) and they had not received it or assigned an LND case number to us yet. Having said that, you can certainly call but it most likely there will be no info. Remember we're talking the speed of government here.

The NVC does not assign your interview date, that will be done by the embassy after they send you packet 3 and you send it back.

You can can call for an appointment for the medical after you get your LND case number from the NVC.

Congrats again,

We've settled on American flight 54 for Chicago to Manchester. Departs here at 5:40pm, lands there about 7:20am. For the other direction we like American 55 (10:35am departure, 12:55pm arrival). Sometimes the fares are cheaper on other flights, but we're looking to be making the Chicago <-> Manchester trek at least once a year... It's all about the miles and occasionally getting a free flight.

My understanding from the temporary EAD stamp debate is it is only valid if you have a work related visa which specifies employment with a specific employer.
In addition when I came through Chicago yesterday they wrote "Admitted solely to marry" on the back of my I194.

Thanks for the info Talyss. My fiance will also be coming in through Ohare for POE since I live in Chicago smile.gif . We were initially planning on JFK just for the temp EAD, but it is not worth it as it is not valid anymore for K-1 admittances.

We're joining this thread too! Got the email notification for NOA2 just a few hours ago.

We thought about a lawyer also but decided to go it on our own... for us it was not wanting to turn something so important over to a 3rd party. I'm not saying a lawyer is the wrong decision, it just wasn't right for us.

Now if we can just get an interview date to coincide with my planned (and ticketed trip) to see Patricia in April.

Thanks for the good luck wishes marm.

Starting to look up the finer details of my journey on Friday. e.g. when will the chosen tube station open ? where is the goulds pharmacy etc. I know others have posted this information but I think its part of the "preperation" to look this info up anyways. wink.gif

On the question of gould's, according to google maps. the pharmacy on North Audley St is listed as opening times of 8:30 am.

My interview is for that time. So have I got to look for some alternative safe place to store my phone and keys ? I have tried to call the pharmacy directly but its constantly engaged. Has anyone got any personal experience of using them ?

Good luck for Friday!

We used Gould's for Pat's car remote door lock, (electronics). Everything else we left in our hotel.. mobile phones, laptops, etc. Along with the car door opener, we forgot 2 USB pen drives in her purse. They found those in x-Ray. Fortunately they were empty and I wasn't about to make the trip back to Gould's to store them, so they were binned. Our appt was for 9:30 so I can't vouch for their opening time.
