US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionManila Interview
Its not a room in manila, its a booth with a gas station security window. The questions were relatively expected and rather pleasant. I was asked "why her" after his requests for supporting documents. It was mostly procedural type stuff. I answered him "Well reason one, obviously she is georgeous" which brought out a smile, "and two when I set out to find a woman I could live with for the rest of my life she became the woman I can't live without". At that point he had a look on his face as if he got an idea for his next line to get some good nookie  He also asked her the same question and I think he was looking for a good loving vibe. I think the more convinced he/she is from the start, the shorter the interview.

Oh I can't forget the look on his face  when I dumped $2000 worth of phone cards in front of him to prove that we have a solid relationship right after showing all the Western Union receipts T-mobile bills. So yes phone cards do serve as evidence if anyone is wondering.

Afterwords you will be sitting in front of two windows. Windows 35 and 36. If 36 calls you, you are good to go  , window 35 is where you get the denial and reasons and what to do .

Oh and if you go with her, dear god don't dress like the hairband white trash I saw there with a Slayer shirt and tight jeans  He and his fiance ended up in Window 35, I overheard something about Affidavit of support and why this is the 2nd time not having it. At the very least it didn't make me proud to be an American at that moment in the middle of the RP as my wife was shaking my shoulder and chanting "oh my gosh look huuuuunnie he is soo Badoy (that is phonetically spelled and is Cebuano dialect for "out of style"), is that how they dress in the USA?"

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionEvidence of Bonified relationship for lifting conditions
Does anybody have a form letter of what to write to the USCIS as an affidavit stating that we are a bonified couple? We have bank accounts together, phone is on a family plan, but for now we don't live together (long legitimate story). Anyways would anybody have any ideas on what to state? Should it be simple and sweet or does it have to be drawn out into a novel?

Philippinesgoing to the philippines.a few questions
My wife is from Illigan and Cebu so I know how that part of the Philippines are.

I would budget to have on hand at the very least 1500USD after arriving in Cagayan De Oro. Remember that in the fall the prices for the tickets from USA to Manila skyrocket.

When you get there, make sure to exchange money in the SM anchor store at the SM mall. Their exchange rate is fair and you avoid getting scammed this way.

It's not that it's expensive there, it's just that being in the same area for 3 weeks can drive both of you crazy. Think about it, you want to be alone and if you are in the same town that everybody knows her, you will never be alone. I'm sure she can and wants to show you more of her country before she ultimately leaves. Get on a Gothong or Superferry liner and take a cruise in the craziest suite they have (I think I payed 200PHP one way I think, but it was really cheap, don't quote me on this one) and then hang out in Cebu City for a couple of days or check out Boracay. (I really loved getting on the edge of the boat feeling like Jimmy Buffet with a SanMiguel, a cigarette and the wind blowing in my face.)

As for the marriage expect to pay up the wazoo. I got married in the Cebu court, but I had not the time to wait 10 days, and with you there for only three weeks, I hope you are filing as soon as you get there so you can have a nice honeymoon thereafter, either that you can also "tip" someone to get it done for you in like two hours (I ended up paying give or take $160) You have to pay for the party (And god!! Everybody shows up so expect to be paying for two Lichon roasts). This can cost you in the upwards of around $400. Also expect to help the family a little bit with some kind of gift (I didn't have this problem, as my in laws are pretty well off.)

Before you leave, make sure you pack a balik-bayan box full of chocolates, snacks and small toys that kids in the USA really like. Children in the Philippines love this kind of stuff and pays off in the really long run. If you know how to acquire these cheap, then more power to you. Just make sure they are well known brands like Hershey's, Mars, you know. Since you are going just before the Halloween season then stock up a whole crapload of the individual size.

Oh and on a last note, make sure you have $10-$20 for the airport tax (not sure if it's the same now, I haven't been there since 2005.) It would sure be a bummer if you can't get on that flight home to process the paperwork.

Good luck to you!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVisa Fraud
This is opportunity for the cheapest divorce on the books. If you cant just have an annulment, and you cant get ahold of her, there is a way.

Simply put a legal notice in the paper for a period of 30 days. If she does not respond you can take that to a judge yourself and you are automatically divorce, at least in the state of Illinois it is.

Well we are about two weeks away from the interview :dancing: . I am getting ready to take off to the Philippines pretty soon and be there every step of the way for her.

I was wondering if anybody here has had any experience with going to the interview in Manila. I have heard from one person that it makes things almost automatic approval because the husband of the spouse is showing that he cared enough to be there with her in the interview  . Then someone else advised not to go because they will drag me into some trick questions.

If anyone can detail me on what it would be like for me I would appreciate it!!

Anywayz....yahaaeee!!!! We are going to be back together sooooon!!!!!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAffidavit of Support Questions

They primarily look at your present and future income ....however in saying that, there has been posts of members in similar situation to yours who have needed a co-sponsor. It is up to the Embassy and the Conof. What about a co-sponsor just in case. I know I have read posts about Manila not accepting co-sponsors but Im wondering if that is more geared for the K-1 as opposed to married couples. What about assets ....this may assist.

I have no assets except for a vehicle I still owe money on. I have my father as a co-sponsor and we are filling both the I-134's and I-864's. Both petitions are approved now (I-130 & I-129) so yah, I am playing everything as safe as I can.

Thank you so much for your help, and now I know, har har!! A pirate knows best!!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAffidavit of Support Questions
So far you have been awesome in helping me out. I have my three years of tax info available. One year, 2004, was a little below the poverty level guidelines. The other two years were good tho (2003 & 2005) I had lost a job for 6 months, now I am back on track. Would this mean my Affidavit by itself would not be sufficient, or just 2005's income would do?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAffidavit of Support Questions

Now I have a question on the I-864. I live with my parents for now, in order to save up some money for me and my huuunie. When it comes to Part 4-B of the I-864 do they mean my parents too? Or maybe perhaps me and my child, but not the one I sponsored??

4 B
1. Number of persons (related to you by birth, marriage or adoption) living in your residence including yourself (DO NOT include persons being sponsored in the this affidavit.)

So yes you would include your parents on the form and your child living with you.

Also for the I-864 one must calculate using all household members which would include your parents as well as your child and your honey of course. As for the child that needs sponsoring. If the beneficiary/applicant is unable to show support of the child themselves then you would need to complete a seperate I-864 for the child. In doing that the first I-864 would also come into play when calculating your ability to support based on your income. Your parents can complete a I-864A and their income can then also be used in calculating household income.

Need to clarify, this is a child of a previous marraige and lives with me. Its just my wife whom I am sponsoring. I was just getting ready to just put myself and my daughter down as my household.

Correct Classic  I erred in not looking at the OP's timeline, only that this was posted in the CR-1 forum.

Well, my I-130 just became approved just recently, in fact a month before her interview for the I-129f K-3. That why it appears to be in the wrong section. Sori

:bonk: No worries darlin' all is cool  Did ya work it out between the different posts re I-864 & I-134 with CR-1 K-3 & K-1.....thats the important thing hahahaha a bit of everything was thrown in

I know the differences between the two. I am a PC Technician, so naturally I come off as sounding a little goofy. I will be bringing both I-864 and I-134, heck with it right??

My wife will be undergoing her interview in Manila really soon. I am wondering which affidavit do they want. The I-134 or I-864?

As for the co-sponsor goes, which form, if different, will they want there. I hear every embassy has their preferences.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWierd question: 1-864 and 2005 tax vs filling status

flipicaneze,

Find a new tax guy.

And read form W-7 yourself - you'll see that there is no requirement about living together, no evidence required that relates to living together.

Yodrak

flipcaneze,

Where did you get this bit of mis-information from?

Yodrak

....

-In order to get a ITIN you must prove that you and your spouse have lived together for at least six months. (Even outside of the USA)

...

This is what I talked to about with a tax guy.

:crying: :crying: :crying: I just did my taxes :crying: :crying: :crying:

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWierd question: 1-864 and 2005 tax vs filling status
As far as what I have heard from another tax person in order to file taxes with her as a dependent, she will have to have a SSN or ITIN in order for you to do so.

PROBLEMS:

-In order to get a SSN your spouse has to be in the USA legally and not as a tourist.

-In order to get a ITIN you must prove that you and your spouse have lived together for at least six months. (Even outside of the USA)

In another words a wierd form of catch 22.

This makes me wounder about my taxes and if they were done right. I went to H & R Block and I honestly couldnt believe how know one knew anything at all in there. I know I filed something as married and they couldnt get it to work so they made up a SS# and whited it out and told me I have to mail it in I have no other choice.

I can't believe they used white out!!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureslast question for a while guys about lawer
As for me I have heard many horror stories about Liars, I mean <ahem> Lawyers. I did everything myself just by following instructions carefully and asking many questions. I have really depended on this site for all my little issues that I have run into. I have gotten to know many of these people on this site and know who to listen to and who not, and the reliables are always answering my questions. Aussiewench for one, jasman0717 also has been great. The others know who you are.

Anyways, I never submitted evidence to tell you the truth, it was just g-325a's, I-129 / I-130, and evidence of citizenship, and the passport pictures of course. The relationship evidence and Affidavit of Support I just went to the embassy with and they actually only took 1995's tax forms, and didn't even bother to look at 2003 and 2004's .

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresGF is worried about coming here alone

My gf/fiancee is very worried about coming to the US alone. With my new work I cant really take anymore time off. Can you who have come here alone tell me was it easy or hard with customs and what not. She is from the Philippines. Thanks all you guys and gals your great help in many ways.

Well for my wife I took the time off just so she can have a shoulder to cry on all the way to the states, thats a long ride for some gal who just left her whole family and life behind her just to be with you. I made it a point to take a couple of weeks off for that. But thats just me, and I had to pull alot of strings to make that happen.

As for customs, it seemed easier when i entered port at Chicago rather then LA. Immigration is a little more laid back as well in Chicago. They dont have as much international traffic in the inland Airport it seems, I was in and out of there in 15 minutes in Chicago. I see you are from Michigan, I suggest having the flight direct to Chicago with no stop at a border city. It will only make things quick for her and she doesnt have to find her way to the next teminal to find her flight. Then take a drive from Chicago to Michigan, be a fun way to show a small part of America to her. When we got home from the Philippines, the first thing I did was put my wife in the car and drove her around the greatest city on earth....Chicago!!!

Wish you the best of luck!!! ;)
