K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2011 Filers!!!

Most of the VSC filers were able to check their online status, mine included. I received the e-notification yesterday and was able to log in as well to the USCIS site by just entering your receipt number. You will have an actual date there, that being your NOA1 date. If CSC takes tooooo long to update the site you will have to wait for the hard copy of your NOA1.

Diana.

Yeah. As far as I can tell (fiddling with case statuses and entering numbers below ours) CSC hasn't added any cases since January 4th to the online system. On the positive side, it keeps me from obsessively checking it. On the negative side, I can't obsessively check it.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2011 Filers!!!

These are the possible reasons I've come up with:

Under Information about your alien fiance(e),
- Question 2 Address, Apt. # was left blank. Perhaps an N/A was necessary?
- State or Country: I put "MIDDX, GB". This is the abbreviated form used on all posts. Should it be written out as Middlesex, Great Britain? Also, as it says State or Country, should I just leave the Middlesex part out all together and just put Great Britain? Or put both as Middlesex, Great Britain?

On to the next page, Part B. Information about your alien fiance(e) (Continued),
- Question 15. Your fiance(e)'s address abroad, under State or Province I put, "MIDDX, GB" as before. Perhaps maybe it was the GB that threw everything off as it did not ask for country. Should I just leave it as Middlesex?
- Question 15 continued, for Country I put simply "GB", however should this be written out as Great Britain?

I think you had this answered in your other thread on the main forum, but you should spell out the state/province and use UK/United Kingdom for the country.
At least that's what we did with ours.

A bit confused here!!!

I have noticed some of you have said that the date we received our text/email is NOT the NOA1 date. Also, that we do not update our timeline with these dates as the NOA1. Others have said that the letter they received via email saying ACCEPTANCE CONFIRMAITON WITH A CASE NUMBER is in fact the NOA1 and the date on the letter is the NOA1 date. I received both a text and email on the same day. Text stating that Official Notice to follow in mail and email stating alittle more that our petition has been routed to CSC for processing. This is not the same day the petition arrived at the Texas Lockbox see below:

01-10-11 Sent I-129F
01-12-11 Packet signed for at 10:30am by Cates (UPS web site)
01-18-11 Text message and email received stating Official Notice to follow in mail 7-10 days and Petition routed to CSC

I would look on the USCIS site but the letter said to wait till receiving the Official Notice to do so. Also, when I attempted to try anyway the site is unavailable from 01-18-11 to 01-19-11 8:30am (but I will not be able to check after that time).

If anyone could clearify this for me I would greatly appreciate it. :star: Otherwise, I guess I could just wait a few more days to see what I get from snail mail.

Thank You to anyone who can help me understand this better.
Jen :)

Okay, let's see if I can clarify this.
The e-mail/text notification is not your NOA1, it's simply a notice that your packet was accepted. What actually happens is when your packet arrives, they assign it a receipt date (that is why I said earlier that your real NOA1 date should be the day it arrived or the next). it takes a few days to get through initial acceptance processing and the e-mail/text to get sent out. So that's usually a few days to a week after the actual NOA1 date. Some people from Vermont have been able to access their cases online with their Application # they received in the e-mail notification, and that showed their receipt date. Others, like me, from CSC have had to wait for the paper NOA1 which has a field for 'receipt date'.
The notification means they have it, so that should take some of the stress out of the waiting.
You should get your hardcopy NOA1 within about 7 days of getting the e-mail notification (it took a while for me).
But I would guess, from your timeline, that your NOA1 date will be either the 12th or 13th.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2011 Filers!!!

I have a question regarding the bolded part: My fiancé is working at his father's lunch and pizza place, and they do not have business stationary. They do have a business stamp though, with the name of their place and address. I figured his father, as his employer, could sign the letter and stamp it as well? Do you guys think that would suffice?

Also, My fiancé's salary is $19,300, which is $1,000 over the 125% poverty limit. As long as one meets that requirement, no co-sponsor is needed, right?

Should be fine, I think.

For those asking about the NVC package to embassy lookup.
You only check after NVC has said they sent the package out.
And you're looking for the one dated the same date NVC sent your package (or the closest there-after).

But yeah, there's a lot of packages going out all the time.
Not just K-1s, but other visa types.
TwoCatsFemaleUnited Kingdom2011-05-19 07:44:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2011 Filers!!!

So I just called and NVC and they said our packet left for the embassy........does anyone have any idea how long it takes the packet to arrive at the embassy. What time frame are we looking at?

1. Go to: http://track.dhl-usa...?nav=TrackByRef
2. In Reference, enter the info as follows:
EXP DD MMM YYYYA
EXP is constant
DD is the date before the day the NVC said they shipped the case.
MMM is the three letters representing the month the NVC shipped the case
YYYY is the year the NVC shipped the case
A is constant
For example, if the NVC says they shipped the case on February 12 2009, this would be entered as "EXP 11 FEB 2009A"
3. Date range for shipment - From: Enter the date of the day NVC said they sent the case
4. Date range for shipment - To: Enter todays date
5. Keep the rest of the fields blank
7. Once you enter the info, press "Track"
8. After a while you will see a list of all of the packages that left the NVC today. You need to search for the specific consulate.
9. When you find the shipment the corresponds to your consulate, you will see the tracking number that you can record.
10. You can then track the shipment from the NVC to your specific Consulate

(copying this from another post for people!)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2011 Filers!!!

We received packet 3. Does it mean our file is at the consulate already? Thanks!

Yep!
That's exactly what it means!

What is packet 3 and 4? What is packet anyway?:bonk:

Packet 3 is instructions/forms you need to fill out and return to the embassy. This is where you actually fill out visa-related paperwork.

Packet 4 is your appointment letter for your interview.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2011 Filers!!!

Hi everyone. I have a question that I am having a hard time getting answered. When I called USCIS they told me that I would have to hire a lawyer to answer that question and could not provide it themself.

My fiance's father is not listed on his birth certificate, however some of the forms ask for his mother and fathers names. Even though he is not on the birth certificates, my fiance does know who his father is.... how should he fill in these spaces?

Ashley

I wouldn't think you'd need a lawyer for this, honestly.

I think the best option is just to list the father's name and what information you know (if you don't know it, just put 'unknown'). Then make a notation somewhere in pen that the father is not listed on the birth certificate.

That way, you provided all the information you have.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2011 Filers!!!

Anyone here w/ a "Notice Date" of 5/9 or later from VSC know if NVC got their case yet?

I tried calling today since it's exacly one week (am I jumping the gun here?) and the guy (rude) only asked me for my notice date. When I told him he said don't call until 15 business days after the notice date. Doh!

Should I call back later and hope I get someone else or am I really jumping the gun here?

Some of them are pretty rude.
We had the same experience.
I'd just suggest calling back tomorrow.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2011 Filers!!!

Woo hoo... well on your way!!!

Quick questions... How long do you have before having to send in your NOA2? And how long before sending in NOA2 does the Packet 3 get sent to my address (although I have moved and am trying now to figure out when and where to put in my address change so that the Packet 3 gets mailed to my new address). Of course we still have to send in our RFE info and wait for the NOA2 but things are happening quicker than expected and we want to schedule my return trip to Vancouver so I'm only there for a couple weeks at the most.

Coordinating timing of appointments and travel arrangements is going to make me crazy, especially since I'm off to Japan in 2 days for a whole month! :luv:

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking, but hopefully I can clear up a few things. Your NOA2 is just a notice that says you are approved. You don't send ANYTHING in regarding it. All it does is tell you that your case has been sent on to NVC/The Embassy. Once your case is logged in at the embassy (which will take a few weeks after your NOA2), you will get sent packet 3. You then must return packet 3 to the embassy. The NOA2 is good for 4 months (I believe?), and the embassy can extend it if you need. So there is no real rush to get packet 3 turned back in. You should have /plenty/ of time.

Timing (roughly):
- E-mail/text NOA2
- Hardcopy NOA2
- (optional: call NVC to find out when they check in your case and what your new case# is)
- NVC Letter with your new case#
- (optional: call DOS to find out if the embassy has received your case and sent packet 3)
- Embassy receives the case
- Embassy sends out packet 3
- You return packet 3
- Medical
- Embassy sends out packet 4
- Interview

Changing your address:

We tried to do this at NVC and ended up missing it. The case was in/out of NVC within 24-hours so we had no time to update it. We had to update it at the embassy, which ended up being /after/ packet 3 was sent. Luckily for the UK, you don't need the physical packet 3 to continue. I'd suggest making sure you have mail-forwarding from your old address if you can. If not, you may have to get it changed/resent out.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2011 Filers!!!

What is the DOS number? What is DOS?

DOS = Department of State

Call (202) 663-1225. Press 1, then 0 to speak to a person.

You need to have your case# from NVC before you call. They can tell you when the case is logged in by the embassy, when packet 3 is sent out, when packet 3 is checked in, when packet 4 is sent out, what your interview date is.

At least, they are able to do that for the UK. I assume (but I'm not sure) that it works for other countries as well.

Updated the group timelines for anyone who posted here.
Congratulations to those who have gotten NOA2s recently.

The embassy logged in our case and sent out packet 3. So we're working through that. He still has to fill out most of the forms and get them printed/signed. He wants to send them in before he goes back, but I don't know that it'll save us much time. His friend sent away the police certificate form on Saturday, with expedited processing, so hopefully it'll get here soon. And, he's booked a medical for a few days after getting back. He needs to see his normal doctor for the vaccinations first, but that shouldn't be too bad, I hope.

I've completed my I-134 with far, far too much information/proof. I've read that they only require two of these when interviewing in the UK, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to have some things around for later. I'm giving Kata:
- Tax transcript
- Pay stubs
- Employer letter
- Bank statements
- Insurance statement

Quick question with regard to preperation of required documentation for beneficiarys interview at US Embassy London, among other things do I need a copy of the complete original k1 application or just the I-129f and i-34...?

Thank you in advance :help:

As far as I'm aware, you don't need to have the I-129F, or the NOA1/NOA2 in London.
They don't ask for it at all. You only need the I-134 which is the affidavit of support.
(and of course the other documents the embassy asks for specifically - police records, birth certificate, forms, etc.)

I gave Kata a copy of the whole packet though, so he has that anyways.

****just a quick note... i have had to do extensive research for the UK noa2 steps and the requirements for the UK residents are police checks for places you have lived for more than 12 months. Sorry to nit pick, i just know how much i panicked when i read 6 months! =)

Thank you for the correction.
I thought it was six months, but if it's twelve, that's fine.
The requirements may be different for different consulates, though. Not sure!

Hello everyone they approved us on April 29, 2011 and we a hard copy in the mail on May 3, 2011 (no emails texts etc). I have been calling NVC for the past few days and politely asking if they have our file all I get are operators with attitudes who tell me it takes 2 to 4 weeks for them to receive the packet and today the girl says it can take up to 90 days and to check back in 15 working days. Is it normal protocol for them to say this and does anyone know what the usual time frame is for NVC getting the packet from USCIS.

Thanks

K

Our approval was the 04/27.
NVC got the case on the 05/04.
That's 5-6 business days after the NOA2.

So I'd at least give it that long.
Don't get discouraged by them telling you things.
We were told it could take up to 15 days.
It didn't.

I would guess it should arrive today or Monday.
Just call once a day, and don't fret too much over it.

How do you know it was there only one day? You called them?

Yes.
Kata called them (I'm a bit phone-shy, as odd as it is for someone who spends half their life on Skype).
They said they received it 05/04, and told us today they sent it out 05/05.

You can even track the packages sent to the embassy through DHL so you can see when it arrives there.
And then you can call the Department of State to ask when they have the case logged in, when packet 3 was sent, and even get your appointment date that way. At least, you can with London anyways.

Another small update for us.
Our case left NVC yesterday, after only spending one day in their hands.
Hopefully that's a good thing.

However, it meant we couldn't get them to update Kata's address.
So, now we'll probably have to use the extortion line at the embassy instead. Ugh.

Could somebody please list exactly what is in packet 3?
what needs to be mailed to the embassy before they give you an interview?

Thanks,

It depends on what consulate you are going through.
Some send you documents you need, others (like the UK) have them all on a website so you don't even need the paper Packet 3.
In the UK, the documents are:
DS-230
DS-156
DS-157
DS-156-K

Can you please tell me what documents that we need to collect while we are waiting for the NOA2? from the petitioner and beneficiary's side. These are the ones to be sent to NVc?
kind of confused!! :(

While you are waiting, you should have the beneficiary get their police certificate(s) for any country they have lived in for at least six months. These can take a while. You also should make sure they have a copy of their long-form birth certificate.

As the petitioner, you should order your tax transcripts for the past 3 years (you only need the most recent for now, but you need all three later for the AOS), and consider looking into getting an employment verification letter from your work, a letter from your bank (see the I-134 instructions) and make sure you have supporting documentation for any co-sponsors (if your embassy allows them/you are using one).

Small updates for us...

- NVC received our case yesterday, so we have our LND#. They informed us to send an e-mail to update Kata's address.
- Kata sent out a new copy of his police certificate request to his friend who has to verify his identity, and then said friend is going to turn it around and send it in for us. Hopefully it'll get back to us in time before he goes home (expedited processing and fast shipping).
- Still no employment letter from my office yet. Ugh.

Right now, our plans are to wait and track our case through NVC to the Embassy. Hopefully packet 3 gets sent out before he goes back. Then we're planning on scheduling his medical as soon after he gets back as possible, and send in packet 3 at the same time.

Hopefully we only get delayed by the visit by a week or two.
Maybe.

So.
I'm gathering my information for the I-134 right now.
Trying to stay positive about getting the NOA2 last week.

Kata is here with me and doesn't plan on going back to the UK until the end of the month.
(We were expecting a longer wait on the NOA2... go figure.)

It just seems like things are working against me, though.
Kata can't seem to find his signed passport photos for the police certificate.
Ugh. I'm hoping he finds them.

Otherwise, we're going to get new ones made.
Then we have to send everything back to the UK to get re-signed/affirmed and then sent out from there.
As much as I love the fact that Kata is here with me right now, I do kind of wish we'd just skipped the visit.
If we had, he could be moving forward with the police certificate.
He could do the medical sooner, and probably get the interview sooner, too.

We were really stressed out by the distance, which is why I wasn't posting much.
Now, it's the stress of things actually moving and needing to juggle to get things done.

Congrats to all

It varies depending on the consulate.
The UK Embassy has all the information in Packet 3 on their website.
You just have to make sure it's 'logged in' in London before sending the information in.

But it really depends on your embassy.

Somewhat?
We're sending in for Kata's police certificate today or tomorrow.
We've got to track things to NVC/Embassy anyways since we need to change Kata's address.

We'll probably fill out packet 3 here, and then he'll go back at the end of next month and send in the packet/do his medical.
That way our time apart is basically just however long it takes to get an interview.

What's the difference between Berkeley List and Igor's List?
Berkeley List:
For California - http://cse.ssl.berke...ta/default.aspx

who knows how to Berkeley List is presented information about the Updated Last? on the USCIS me Updated Last on 03/21/2011 and the Berkeley List My Updated Last on 27/03/2011 .... how did they know that last touched 3.27.2011 ... ...???

1. Both the on-site Igor's list, and the Berkeley Igor's list essentially display the same information. The Berkeley list has a total by service center, so you can see exactly how many were completed each week historically back over a year (can't do that with the VJ list). They are both called 'Igor's List', but here are some of the main differences.
  • - The VJ one separates filers by months
  • - The VJ one orders by NOA1 date, not sent date.
  • - The VJ one includes Texas as a valid service center, but it isn't, so those people are wrong.
  • - The Berkeley one includes anyone with 'Texas' as a service center into Vermont, which is also wrong.
  • - The Berkeley one feeds off of information from the VJ system, which means there is a delay before it appears there.
2. The 'Last Updated' on the Berkeley list is the last time you updated your VJ timeline.
It is NOT the last time your case was touched, and has nothing to do with USCIS.
It is just the last time you clicked 'update timeline' here on VJ.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2011 Filers!!!

New January Filer here!

Just like everyone else, just simple 'doing my time' as it seems.

Thank God for Vontage and Blackberry Messenger! WOO! ^_^

Added you to the January filers list.
You can find it in my signature.

Hi everyone!
I filed my K1 visa application on Dec,2010 but it was rejected because the filling fee did not match. I filed it again on Jan 5th and got NOA1 on Jan 10. Desperately waiting for NOA2 now.. :/
Btw, I filed it to Luisville, Tx. Does anyone has any idea if their timeline matches the one shown in USCIS webpage? ://
Good luck to everyone.

Welcome.
I'll add you to the January filers list when you update your service center.
If your case# starts with EAC, you are at Vermont.
If your case# starts with WAC, you are at California.

I agree with carl24.
The days that seem to go fastest are the days where I'm not actively thinking about the waiting.
Usually it's the weekends, when I have other things to distract me.

I remember a few years ago when the wait time was three months.
Never thought I'd be here waiting again.

Still, trying to make the best of the time.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2011 Filers!!!

while csc has around 10000 pending, and approved 2000 in jan. So basically based on jan, vsc will take 12 months and csc 5. lol.

Lets hope VSC, start shifting some.

Yeah, no kidding.
Every time they reveal more data on there, I feel worse and worse for the VSC people.

Also, I have posted twice a question about the affidavit of support and how cosponsors answer question 3 and 10 on the I-134, but I have not gotten a reply yet. Does this mean that no one is quite sure yet?

I've never used a co-sponsor, myself, so I don't know.
Maybe try asking on the main K-1 forum?
You might get a better answer there.
