K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2011 Filers!!!
The problem with the positions on there is that they move, so it's not a great estimate tool.
For instance, when I started looking at CSC, there were only 32 December filers. Now there are 44. I'm betting that by the time we actually /get/ to December cases being processed, there will be 50+.

Still, it is so nice to see your number in the queue go down.
We started at 400-ish and are now at 362.

So, another chapter in the saga of my beloved's jerkface landlord.

They had a couple of power outages a few weeks back, and the landlord insisted on searching everyone's rooms to make sure that they weren't causing it. He asked to be present and they refused to give him a time. So after taking a day off of work to be there all day to make sure they didn't mess with his stuff, they never showed. He did see an electrician (hired by the landlord) fiddling with the meter, though.

When he left for work yesterday, the power company was replacing the meter, and claimed that it shouldn't disrupt electricity for the tenants. That was a lie. He woke up this morning to no power and a notice stating that the meter had been tampered with to steal electricity. It wouldn't be any of the tenants who tampered with it. Electricity comes out of their rent directly at a flat rate, so it doesn't /matter/ to any of them what the charges are for the whole house.

So, as of right now, he has no power at home.
Oh, and the internet at home was shut off due to non-payment, too. He's using a mobile ISP dongle at the moment.

He has another place lined up to move into, but it may not be until March (I'm hoping he can move sooner). It's just stressful because of how bad his landlord is screwing him and his fellow tenants over.

Bleh.

It can't just be the immigration process being stressful, it has to be the rest of the world, too!
:bonk:

Does anyone know what the "A# (if any)" on the I-129F is for? Because it was right beside the "u.s. social security" question we assumed it just wanted any number from for the alien fiance. So we put my Social Insurance Number! What that correct? If not would they reject our application or request an RFE? Man I hate how complicated this whole process is. I find it so frustrating. :crying:

The alien # is assigned to you when an alien is put into the system. This is usually because they have applied for a visa at some point.
My ex did not have an A# before he started, but had one assigned when he got his K-1 visa.

I don't know what putting a wrong A# in there will do.

Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2011 Filers!!!

Hello guys.. as a newbie, can anyone let me know what it means to be 'touched'? What does that implicate, what does that mean? Does that mean that they have somehow partially checked our documents? Or that they picked it up and realized we're too early to be processed and put us back to our rightful queue? Just wondering..
Thanks you!

Whenever someone handles your case at the service center, they scan a barcode or otherwise log you in to their system. This could be that they are processing something on your application, or it could be that they are just moving it from one location to another.

For instance, a bunch of people from VSC got 'touches' on 10/3/2010, which is widely assumed at this point to have been VSC shelving a good number of their K-1 applications in favor of processing TPS. No one knows for sure, though.

I've seen people report touches just before approval, just before RFEs, and sometimes with no real change in their status at all. Basically, all it means is someone 'touched' your application. Quite literally. Nothing more than that.

You can see 'touches' by having an account on the USCIS status site. When you have a petition entered, there will be a 'last updated' date, and that will show you the last time someone 'touched' your case.

Hmmm.. I checked Feb 07 and only one from CSC got NOA2.. do some of VJ members not just that active?

Has it been ONLY 25 days so far? It seems too long..
But thanks! :) That looks great.

Yeah, no kidding.
It's been 31 days for us, and it still feels like forever.
Even so, we're getting the first month behind us, slowly, and it's just that much closer to being with our loved ones.

Thanks TwoCats! Question, why is does DAYS TO NOA2 = 25 for us? I wouldn't mind if that happens, yipeeeee that's too near! :D

Heh.
Sorry if it's confusing, it's a 'count up' to the date you get it.
So think of it as the 'days since filing' or 'days waiting'.

So it means you've waited 25 days so far.

Are we all going to live in Texas? (I know not all of us, but sure feels like a lot of us are) Baby is a little worried about how I'm going to handle weather changes  Guatemala is blessed with a perfect weather pretty much all year long. (It feels like spring all year long... it can rain a little sometimes but... it's not that bad)

Random, huh? LOL

Heh. I'm from Chicago, so I'm not sure how much of a change it is from UK weather. I think we're a bit less 'mild' here, and the summers definitely require A.C. while I haven't seen very many houses that even have A.C. over there.

Hello everyone =)
We just joined VJ, and we are January petitioners as well.. Sent Jan 12, NOA1 Jan 13. =)
We originally sent in Nov 25, but it was sent back because of incorrect fee (*sigh*, we lost more than a month because of that)..
Anyway, I wish everyone luck, especially VSC and CSC luck too, in processing our petitions =)

By the way, not to be out of topic or anything, but have you guys noticed that nobody got NOA2 last Friday, 02/04...

Added you to the list!
You can find our group list via my signature.
It's public and update-able so you can edit it when needed.

And yeah, I noticed that there were no California NOA2s on Friday.
Probably nothing to be overly worried about. CSC seems pretty regular in their performance.
I wouldn't mind it if they picked up the pace and pulled a few weeks like VSC has been doing, though. :innocent:

Kata thinks he already has his long-form birth certificate.
We probably won't get the police certificate until closer to NOA2 time (since I may never be able to see updates, I may just wait until May and then start prodding him about getting it.)

So, how about a topic to pass the time?

We're coming up on Valentine's day in a little over a week.
Anyone have any plans for v-day? If yes, share!
If not, how have you spent previous Valentine's?

I'll even be nice and start. :innocent:
Kata's birthday is actually on Valentine's Day. I call it his 'Birthentine's Day' because I'm silly like that.
He's turning the big 2-5 this year, so I've taken to nicknaming him 'old man' (even though I turn 30 later this year, meep!). It's also because he fell asleep after Christmas dinner, and him and my father were both snoring in the living room while the rest of us were terribly amused.

Anyways, he's going up to Scotland to spend his birthday with his family, since I stole him for Christmas and New Years. They're combo-ing together all the holidays so he'll be doing Val-Christ-Birth-Year-ntines. He's promised me some Skype-time, though.

If I have time this week, I might try to work up an art piece for him (Did you know I did art? Cruddy cartoon art of cute fluffy animals, but still art. And no, I didn't do my sig picture or my icon.) Not sure if I'll have time, though.

I am so glad for it to be the end of the week.
With the snow, the last few days have kind of been hell.

And I found out today that I'm being charged a day off for Wednesday. Where my only form of transportation into work wasn't running (was canceled) AND the state actually said all non-essential personnel (police, medical professionals, etc.) were supposed to stay home. Which is irritating the ####### out of me right now.

Still no online access for our case.
I'm worried we might be one of those that never get to see our case status.
I have plans to call up about it on Monday (officially 1 month from NOA1 so they can't give me the '30 days' garbage).

Hey guys.
As I've said before, getting the e-mail isn't always the same as getting the NOA1 date.
If you look at my timeline, my e-mail was the 11th, and my NOA1 date was the 7th.

Make sure you check either the online system for their date received, or when possible, your hardcopy for the NOTICE DATE.
That's your real NOA1, not the e-mail date.

Once you're sure, just toss me a PM and I'll drop you from the list.
If you're February, though, best of luck to you!

Had a slight issue with the timeline page.
Someone apparently made a copy of the main page, and people were updating information on that one instead of the main one. I cleaned it up and everyone should be there with updated information. Give it a look and make sure everything is right for your (as in everyone's) timeline.

As I said earlier, I left on two people who list their NOA1 dates as 02-01, because I think that they might have put on the date they got electronic acceptance, not the actual NOA1s.

Sorry for not being on much the last two days, the storm caused a bunch of issues here in Chicago.
I noticed a few others who hadn't had NOA1 dates in our group list put up 02-01 dates, but I don't know if those were electronic e-mail dates or their actual NOA1s. So I'm leaving them on the list for right now.

I'm actually looking forward to putting these first 30-days of the process behind me.
Still feeling kind of stressed/worried, to be honest, but Kata has been more supportive than I could have ever asked for. He's such a sweetheart. Hopefully he should have internet back this week, so that'll take some of the stress of of things. He's still looking for a place near his work, though. One that doesn't have ####### internet and jerkface landlords.

Oh, and I'm down 3.2lbs this week, and he's down about 5lbs. So we're doing quite good on our diets, too!

Hi everyone,

We sent our packet in on Jan. 17th and received the NOA1 email on Jan. 23rd and the hard copy on Jan. 24th.

We still can't log onto usics.gov to view status, even after setting up account.

We look forward to sharing the journey with everyone. Good luck to all.

Hi all,

I'm late to the party but finally here. Thanks TwoCats for the invite. Filing CSC, sent 12/30/10, NOA1 1/4/11, no touches thus far. Hoping for NOA2 around June 4 - 11.....and now just waiting with you all!!! Good luck to all of us!

Welcome to the group!
I went ahead and added you to our timeline information.
Looks like you bumped me out of my spot as 'earliest CSC filer'. No worries though! We're all in this together.
So you have access to your case through the online system?

I haven't seen anyone with an NOA1 after the 4th that has access. Bleh. This is three weeks now. When it hits 30 days, I'm calling to see what the issue is (as if I'll get an answer).

Just had to share this, since maybe it'll give you guys a laugh.
This is Kata and I talking about the 3-hour waits I've read about at London Embassy for interviews:

Kata: If we're together, we can deal with the 3 hour wait. If necessary, I can think of ways to take your mind off the stress.
Kita: We are not making out at the embassy... (I know that's what you're thinking.) Even if that would prove a relationship... hrm.
Kata: Yep, it would certainly be a ++

Oh, now another thing to worry about. Although I have been separated for 11 years neither my ex nor I filed for divorce due to issues with child support and the cost of divorce. Last year the child support issues were done and he decided to finally get married so my divorce was only final April 2010. I hope this won't be an issue... I'll have to pull out our separation agreements and child support court papers.
I'm so dreading the interview - I have a thing about tests, public speaking and stuff like that, I get so nervous for the first few minutes I stammer, turn red in the face and sweat and it sounds like I'm hiding something or lying, gets me pulled over at the border all the time... ugh. Off to find my zen place and think positive thoughts.

I think you're better off than me with April at least, better than just over 30 days for us. We just caught the 'quick divorce/engagement' as a possible red-flag in another post. -.-;

But I know /exactly/ where you're coming from. I'm one of those interminably shy people (which is probably surprising based on how social I am online). I'm reading through embassy reviews right now to set my mind at ease a bit. So far, the scariest thing I've read about London is the sometimes three-hour waits to get called to the window (it's like the DMV!)

Hello TwoCats, it's sick Diana here! LOL I'd be worried if it was a high fraud embassy, but the UK isin't. And if you have enough proof of an ongoing relationship I wouldn't worry about it at all. Have faith  Who says that all love stories happen in the same paste or way... nobody, and you have proof of being inlove and a straight story of how things happened.

*hugs* I wish for you peace of mind and a happy smily friday!! :)

I really do appreciate all the support of everyone on the forums. It's so easy to freak out over things sometimes, especially in this process, because you feel a bit like your life is hanging in the balance. We're doing better today, promise!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2011 Filers!!!

Yes, by tourist visa I meant the VWP - I wasnt sure if everyone here knew the program so I used the term tourist visa instead (sorry..). the VWP allows you to go and visit for the maximum length of 90 days during which you cannot work, get married, the usual stuff. Im sorry if I didnt explain myself very well :-( I am actually flying over to visit in three weeks (YEEEY!!!!) for a vacation, and I don't have any concerns about going through the POE for my visit. The thing is that we have talked about me going over for the three months that I can stay on the VWP to wait for NOA2 with him in the US. then I would just fly back here to go to the interview and get my K1 Visa before flying back over on the K1 to get married. In that case, I would give up my job and apartment before having the K1, therefore wouldn't have those documents proving that I have ties back in Finland. Which is true, I wouldnt really have any ties, other than my will to do things the legal and the right way (Josh works for the Air Force (as a civilian though) so it is extremely important to do everything by the book). He can't really take a 3-month vacation from his work to come here to wait it out with me, so that option is excluded... I dont know, Im just going through whatever options there are to make the insanely long wait a little more doable... We planned on my moving over late this spring (which would've been the timeline if they got the approval out in 5 months tops and we hadnt had the problem with the petition fee) and I have sorta kinda given an unofficial notice at work already  I have so many projects going on right now that a month's notice would just leave all my dear co-workers in a lot of trouble, so Ive promised to give them a heads-up as much beforehand as possible. My immediate boss knows what's going on and has been EXTREMELY supportive, giving me time off when Ive asked, and I thinks she deserves this.
Anyway, thank you for your advice!!! (F) Eve

I'm not really sure what to suggest, then. You'll have the same issues at POE that you will with trying to convince someone to give you a visa (and then again at the POE more than likely). I'm by no means an expert when it comes to the VWP, but honesty tends to be the best policy. Even if you don't have direct ties, could you get letters from family who verify you are going to be returning on x-date? Just a thought.

-----

Just to clarify for some people since I was probably a little vague during my 'freak-out' session yesterday, there are a couple of 'red flags' with my case. Nothing on Kata's side, but things to do with me and my ex-husband. I don't think it's RFE worthy, but it could be the type of thing a person interviewing us might raise an eyebrow at.

Without getting too into details, this is my second K-1. I met Kata for the first time while still married (as a mutual friend of my ex-husband and I). Due to waiting period for separation in Illinois + lawyer issues, it took me nearly nine months to get the divorce finalized and the relationship with Kata developed during that time. And due to said issues, my divorce was only final about 35 days or so before Kata and I ended up filing. etc. You get the idea.

I tried to explain the timing of things up front. We sent six trips worth of itineraries, boarding passes, passport stamps, and photos as well as four months worth of Skype-out calls (we hadn't found the call-exporter yet). So I think we established a lot more proof of relationship than a lot of other cases might have. What mostly has us frightened is that Kata found the thread about NOIDs, and how it can lead to misrepresentation/fraud flags on the beneficiary and how those flags can lead to being inadmissable for life. So yeah, we kind of talked ourselves into freaking out with a lot of 'what ifs' that mostly come down to: what if the embassy doesn't believe our story?

After a very dramatic tear-filled spaz list night, we calmed down and decided to just do the best we can and try (eheh) not to worry too much until something actually comes up. It could be that they ask a few questions about it, or that it doesn't come up at all. Who knows, but we were scaring ourselves so much with the 'what ifs' of it. We're going to print out our skype call history from January-(whenever), include a few IMs/Skype-chats per month, any photographs we previously didn't include (some of them were silly, or I was making odd faces), our skype-out calls, continue with plans for a short visit for me to see him over my birthday (photos, boarding passes, itineraries, stamps, etc.), and then I'm going to go over there and attend the interview with him.

I'm hoping that this will be enough for us. I've heard London is an easy embassy to go through, but you never know.

Ok everyone. I was talking to Edouardo this morning about my upcoming trip. I went to see if we could finally see our case status online. Well, much to my surprise......We are in Post Decision Activity and our I129f has been approved! This is such a blessing to our family. Honestly, I didnt want to post anything on here because I feel bad. I love that we got approved but I dont like the fact that others have been waiting up to 7 months for the same process. I know for timeline purposes I have to update mine, but I decided to tell you all first. I pray that everyone's process is smooth and as speedy as possible. Now to wrap my head around all this stuff I wasn't expecting to do until Spring/Summer. God Bless.

Really and truly, congratulations!

TwoCats,
I am soo sorry I got your hubby's name wrong   How embarassing. But it is a great idea that you be there for your Kata (L) . I plan on being at my Rosalia's interview in Cuidad Juarez ( it being the most dangerous city this side of the earth ). This is a second K1 filing being done on my behalf. Hey, if worse comes to worse we marry over there in Chihuahua and file a CR1.

My sincere apologies 2 :luv: 's

No worries. Kata isn't his real name anyways.
It's a nickname that kind of stuck and now he prefers me (and my family) to call him that.
My mom still flubs sometimes and calls him by his real name (which is Mark btw), and then corrects herself.

Good luck to everyone! I see a lot of diverse filers here x] which is awesome, any Swedes? I see Finland 8D I went there last summer with Johan, it's a beautiful country and last year was the record high in summer temperatures lol even a Maynard like me was sweating. *cough straying off topic* anyways I hope things go well for everyone. I'm prepared for the wait though. The good thing about VJ is it prepares you for both the worst and best based on the posts from everyone. I sent my petition out this past Friday. I just got my acceptance confirmation e-mail today that it was forwarded to VSC. :]

Welcome to the January filers.

P.S.
Thank you to everyone for your support. I do appreciate it.
Kata and I decided that we're going to make sure I can be there for his interview, that way any hiccups that we're worried about (mostly revolving this being a second k-1 and my ex-husband, btw) should be minimized by the fact that we're both there to answer any questions they need.

Has anyone else ever read through some post on the forum only to find someone mentioning a mistake, or an issue they had, and it starts you (and worse your fiance') into a downward spiral of worrying? In that irrational way of: 'I can't do anything about this, and I don't even know if it will be an issue'. That's kind of where we're at today.

Nothing I want to discuss details on really, but it's stressful.
Hopefully it dies down and in a few days I'll go back to the whole 'we'll deal with problems if they come up and not worry about them until then' mentality.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2011 Filers!!!

Have any of you considered going over to be with your significant other on a tourist visa before getting your K1? We are contemplating this option since it looks like it will take as long as 5-6 months, if not more, to get the approval. The consulate here (along with everything else in Finland) will be closed for the whole month of July if not more, which would postpone my process here by another month again. My concern with this is that I've heard that they can actually deny entry at the POE if they in any way think that you might try to stay in the country illegally on your tourist visa. And that it is completely up to the person questioning you whether they believe you in that you are committed to doing things the legal and the right way. If they are suspicious they can just send your hiny back on the next flight over, at your own cost. Obviously I would quit my job here and give up my apartment etc before flying over and I'd just stay at friends and my parents when coming back to get the Visa, so the only proof of actually coming back to Finland would be my return ticket - which Im not sure I should even book in advance in case we by some miracle happen to get our NOA2 earlier than estimated. so many things here to consider....

I don't know much about countries where a visa is required to travel to/from the United States, however I do know of many people who were in VWP countries who have managed to come visit without too much of a problem. Finland, from what this site shows, is a VWP country, so unless you have some other thing excluding you from using the VWP program, that's probably better than actually trying for a visa. My first time through the process (back some four years ago for my ex-husband), he managed to come over to visit just fine on VWP over Christmas through Chicago without any troubles.

The best thing to do is to have a return ticket, have all your evidence of ties to your country, and be honest. Never misrepresent yourself. Have documents showing you have a job and when you're expected to return, lease/property information, and anything else to show that you're likely to return. At the POE, don't get nervous or flustered. If they ask questions, just answer honestly and have information to prove this is just a visit. Getting denied at POE would suck, but it isn't the end of the world.

Alternately, could the U.S. side of your relationship come to visit Finland instead? That's what Kata and I plan on doing if I'm able to get time off of work. I'm hoping to come visit him in London for a week or so, just to break up the long waiting period.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary 2011 Filers!!!

Hello fellow January filers! I want to be part of this thread! Can you please tell me how? Thanks and Goodluck to us ALL! (L)

That's all you really need to do.
Come in, introduce yourself, and participate.

I've added you to our list, which there is a link to from my signature.
You can go ahead and update it when you have updates/changes to your timeline.
Welcome!

Hey everyone!

I technically sent in our packet a couple of days after Christmas, but we got our NOA1 at the beginning of the month.

My fiance Justin and I are hoping to get everything taken care of in time for an October wedding. So glad to see others on here who are on the same timeline! It'll be nice to keep each other encouraged :)

Welcome to the January filers!
I've added you to the list, too.

im wondering if i could get married in his counrty first because his family isnt going to be there when we get married in the US ? or that isnt possible?

The K-1 is for coming to the U.S. and getting married here as faust said.
I think that you could have an unofficial ceremony (don't get a marriage license, or file any paperwork to register the wedding) for his family.
(Not 100% sure, though - so someone can correct me if i'm wrong).

Yeah, even if I could check it online everyday, I would not. Drive me crazy...so it is better not to even concern myself with that. Work on preparing the house, work on learning more Russian words, and spend what time I can with my fiancée on Skype. All else is pretty much a waste at this point.

I check a couple of times a day just because I'm waiting to see when it actually gets into the system in CSC.
I think the last time that I went through the process, I'd gotten myself to only checking once a day at max.

Nope, my little one called them yesterday to be told that we wouldn't be able to check the status until after the February 20 (!), but that this doesn't effect the processing time.

From,
Paul

I'm guessing you'll be able to see it in a few days.

Sometimes you have to learn to speak USCIS.
If your NOA1 date is January 20th, and they say you won't be able to check status until February 20th, it means: Wait a month before calling us back. (And my translation is: It'll probably be fixed in the next 30 days, so ####### off for a while and leave us alone)

Hm - that's what I thought, but the dates don't actually match up for me: the hard-copy "notice date" is 01/14/2011, while the online date of receipt is 01/12/2011. Odd.

Thanks for the info though!

I'd go with what it says in the NOA1 hardcopy.
Sometimes it does vary a little bit, from what I've seen.
Besides, a day or two isn't going to make much difference timeline-wise.

Does anyone know if you can check your NOA1 date online (and, if so, where to find it)?

If you got your e-mail confirmation of case acceptance, there should be a case number in the e-mail.
Go to this site.

Enter your case number and search. (If your case isn't there yet, wait. Just hopefully not three weeks like me.)
The date it says they received it should be the same as your NOA1 date.

Also, you should consider signing up for an account on the site, and adding your case number to it.
This will allow you to sign up for e-mail/text alerts and to see the mystical 'touches' to your case.

People, lets not separate our thread to VSC or CSC ever. ok? Ok! LOL

What I ment was to not make one that was titled "January Filer CSC 2011" or something like that. Of course I or anybody can't prevent it, but still.. wishful thinking so we can all stay friends and give each other a positive helping hand... or anything we want to share. I think we've all proven to be capable of being supportive and positive, and if not, helping each other to become so... I truly dont think we will ever have a problem and that is why I posted my lil ... post. :star: To be honest here: I, as a January filer, saw the way VSC was already processing slow, so my expectations of it being any faster weren't high. I started the process that way and if it goes any faster then that would be a plus, but not something I expect at the moment or would fret out with you sweet guys for any reason.

I agree wholeheartedly.
Really, at the most, the only 'separation' is different tabs on the group timeline page, and I only did that so it was easier to see trends with the different service centers (like how long each one is taking to get to NOA1s, etc.). VSC or CSC, we're all in the same boat and we're all in for quite a wait, regardless. Of course, we can't stop someone from making a separate thread, but it wouldn't take long for someone to notice that this is where all the 'action' is.

No, have not been able to online yet. Still waiting on my paper copy in the mail.

I would guess you'll get your hardcopy on Friday or Saturday.
We got our e-mail notification early on a Tuesday morning and got hardcopy on Saturday.
