Just checked the flight tracker and he is currently over Newfoundland.

His flight gets in a little after 5, so I'll take the 4:25 train to O'Hare and by the time I get there he should be just getting out of baggage claims. We'll then take a cab home from there where I have a laid back dinner of cheese, wine and pate waiting.

Luckily I have been kept somewhat busy today so that has been keeping me from mulling on it too much. I'm such a dorkus maximus though...I have a flight tracker on him through Flight Stats although I can't see exactly where he is yet as the program only shows flights over US/Canadian airspace. Maven - I'm still hoping to be living the Los Feliz / Silverlake area, but both of us want to try to get work sorted as quick as possible, and really only then can we decide for sure, exactly where we should live. Also we have limited savings to do this whole move on, so I would prefer to wait to have to buy furniture etc, till we have an income. In the same way, until we have jobs, we won't even know what our budget for the apartment rental is. So even though the monthly rental will probably be more expensive, it would be worth it to have everything taken care of blush.gif

Once again craigslist is a great resource for furniture. Most of the furniture I got for my apartment is from there, and I spent less than $500 furnishing the place (got a free 32' tv and tv stand, free futon, $70 pier 1 coffee table, $25 couch, $90 shelf, $30 and $15 on side tables, $20 microwave $50 on lamps/decor etc). It helps having your own vehicle for this (I imagine in LA you will have one) but sometimes you can work it out with people to drop it off for an extra few bucks. All of the stuff I got was in good condition aside from the nicks here and there. At least here in Chicago, there are lots of people who don't like to move their stuff when they move...ie they would rather sell off all they have and just go out and buy new furniture alltogether. I would imagine it wouldn't be all that different out in SoCal.

We stocked up on Scotch Pies, Donegal brand fish sticks, fresh baked sausage rolls (they have a baked goods area), Irn Bru, Salt n' Vinegar Taytos, black and white pudding, wheaten bread, bangers, HP Sauce, Chef Malt Vinegar and Irish bacon. Nicky literally was drooling as he ate his sausage roll with brown sauce and washing it down with Irn Bru.

Best part was...they had TONS of free samples. They had several different types of samples of Kerrygold cheese and butter, soda bread, mini pasties, bangers and shepards pie. I mean they were literally shoving shepards pie in our face. And plenty of Jacob's chocolate biscuits too. If they do this every Saturday it will be well worth the 1.5 hour ride by bus out there again!

yummmmmm yuuummmmm. I can get kerrygold cheese and butter here, and dubliner cheese (which is actually sold in ireland unlike some of the other 'irish' cheeses. But bacon, soda bread and TAYTO's!!!!! MMMMMmmmm. I'm jealous.

If you can't find anyplace in LA we can always ship some of the dry good stuff. Unfortunately they don't have an online store, but you can get a look at some of the stuff on this link

I think I'm going to make a go at making some of the mini pasties like they had there. It looked like they used crescent roll dough or pastry dough, and I can pick up some of the sausage filling at the store tomorrow.

Kerrygold is fairly common around here too...the Irish Dairy Board's US HQ is actually just up the road from me!

My hair was asymmetric from about 84 to 86. Had a few of what I will term normal years, where it was cute with some professional highlights. I think it was late 88 when I decided that a perm was in order. Stuck with that misguided look for a few years.

That picture is truly of it's era. I was wearing a little pink outfit that had pink bikeshorts with lace appliques and lace around the bottom hem of the legs...and my hair was about 3 feet in diameter. At some angles I could block out the sun.

ginger - that casserole sounds good, what are cresent rolls?

curries are the perfect reheating food too

Similar to croissants....but I would say a bit on the heavier side of the bread spectrum.

They come in a tube, and when you take them out they look like this (only the sections are all connected)

You basically use the sheet of dough on the top and the bottom instead of breaking it into individual squares or triangles. If it doesn't quite fit you can stretch it out a bit.

If you ever want to make it, pm/email me and I can take some photos of the process. I'm one of those people who is a visual learner, so if the whole crescent roll dough directions sound confusing don't be afraid to tell me it would be easier to send photos!

Oooo...Runza's in London! But these people are trying to make it traditional style...which I don't reccomend unless you have a lot of time on your hands!

I always make stuff that can be stuck in the fridge after. Pasta, with a nice sauce is perfect for reheating. The sauce often tastes better cos all the flavours mix together while it's sitting there.

I make this casserole every week or two. I substitute ground beef with ground turkey, the moz cheese with the low fat/2% moz cheese, and the crescent rolls with the low fat crescent rolls. Also, instead of buying a head of cabbage I buy cole slaw mix...quicker and easier that way...and to make sure I get plenty of veg in I put extra cabbage in.

I like to make this and then freeze it. On a night when Jeremy gives you the 20 minute warning put it in the oven as it only takes about 20 minutes to bake ...it would be a perfect hearty meal for you two. Nicky likes to make some Bisto gravy to smother it in but I prefer to eat mine as is.

Runza is kind of a Nebraska thing, but Nicky says it seems like something that would go over well for Brits too.

RUNZA CASSEROLE

2 lbs. hamburger
2 onions, chopped
4 c. shredded cabbage
Salt & pepper to taste
2 tubes refrigerated crescent rolls
1 lb. Mozzarella cheese, shredded

Use 9"x13" pan. Begin to brown hamburger and onion for a few minutes in a large pan and add cabbage to steam. Spread 1 tube of crescent rolls over bottom of pan. Spread meat on top and add cheese. Place second tube on top and pinch together again. Bake 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. Cover last 10 minutes to soften crust. Perfect for Runza lovers and so much easier than making individual ones.

Oh well, I spent some time in the hot tub, and then made some cookies. (and ate a LOT of cookie dough). I feel a little better, but still worried.

You have a hot tub!? I am sooo jealous!! I can't wait to move somewhere that at least has a bath!!!

Actually, I wouldn't wash your hands between kitties. This way they will get used to eat others' scents quicker. You'll have to kind of force Daisy to let you - just stroke her back even if she is pulling away. I swear they'll adjust better this way!

Pics are adorable, btw!

I hadn't thought of it like that - she seemed a little less inclined to miaow and pull away this morning although I did feel bad when the little one was in bed giving me a cuddle and Daisy jumped up to give me a cuddle in bed as she sometimes does but didn't want to come near the baby. She didn't go for him though or even miaow or growl which was something. She did have a little moan at him this morning when he was tearing around again though. And I caught the little ####### eating her food again when she went outside so I had to move it! He is so naughty!

Daves are always cool.

I picture a Dave cat as more of a bruiser tom cat though, not a cute ickle kitten. Still, my next male cat will be given serious consideration to be called Dave.

Yeah - I was thinking Fred laughing.gif Jeremy came up with Riley though which is really growing on me smile.gif

My mom's cat is named Riley! It's a very good name...
