I think your right about her sleeping all day. She only seems to come around around 5:30 6pm, and i did not realize it but i was outside with her for an hour til 7pm last night! So far nothing has been touched since then so i'm thinking shell be around at supper time again. Going to the petstore today to pick up some canned food for her which may smell better to her.

She came back!! Posted Image

She ate the rest of the cat food, i gave her, she also ate a few slices of bologna. She licked my fingers nuzzled and oh my did she ever purr! However she was not keen on coming under the fence where i had dug a hole..so i took one of my big Tupperware containers i use to store blankets and i put it on its side with a few towels in it. Hopefully she comes back and the mastiff mix next door doesn't get her. She ran over there after cleaning her paws and stretching and hid under their shed before the dog was out..and the dog was whining cuz it knew something was under the shed.

But i think she realized i have food and water now..and i left some out with the blankets. Hopefully she comes into my yard this time.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions. I asked the Local PD when they came here about a live trap and they didn't sound too interested. "you don't know what your going to catch, it could be a skunk, squirrel or something else"..ok fine don't care just gimme the trap....they were super uninterested. :(

There has been alot of activity at the house right behind us we share a wood fence. The owners of the house have been cleaning it out and doing repairs. I figured with the activity kitty would come back but i have not seen her nor heard any of the dogs bark around here excessively. (mostly a dog area it seems).

The food i left out was all gone this am, i put it by the fence / tree where I have seen her, but i'm not really sure if she ate it or another animal did. I haven't seen her since the dog maggie chased her into the tree the other day. The worst part about this is the not knowing if shes in someones garage, under a deck/ shed or anything else. All i can do is keep trying. and hoping.

And Flames, i agree with you. People who do this should be shot. I was checking out a few rescues around here, and they are getting so many owner surrenders and strays its not funny. there is also a local Realtor group that is trying to help with the left behind animals from foreclosures moves etc. Its unreal how many animals in Chicago right now are in this state.

I just wish i could do more or something. This is just breaking my heart :( We do have a spare empty bedroom for her should i catch her again. But i also have 2 dogs, and while the cat is used to dogs, my dogs are not used to cats. I have mentioned to a few people i know and on Facebook about her trying to see if some of them would be able to take her when i get her or know someone who can. But i'll deal with that part after i catch her and feed her first. I wonder if tuna cans would entire her more? Not too experienced with cats myself lol. Well see how the weekend goes.

So the neighbours behind us who had a bunch of cats and a dog moved suddenly and they abandoned one of the cats. I think they left it in side the house and the owner of the house ( it was a rental section 8 )rather than calling animal services just kicked it out. Its been outside in 28 degree weather the last two nights in a row. :(

I tried to catch her yesterday, she got close enough to nuzzle my hand but when she saw my husband she freaked out bit my hand clawed at me and ran off :( Just like the dog who was scared shitless of the owners i think the cat was scared of men too.

Anyways after i crried half the night upset, and worried, the cat came back today. I heard our neighbours dog Maggie barking up a storm and sure enough kitty was in the tree. So i tried to cajole her down with kitty noises and i called the PD to tell them to come help me catch this abandoned cat. They showed up way too late :( Kitty ran off. However i exepect she will be back again as she still thinks the empty house is her home.

I borrowed some cat food off my neighbour and I've been going out every couple hours to see if she has come back. I figure i can use a pillow case to secure her in if i can catch her again, this way i can avoid the bites and scratches unlike the first time:(

I know you have some experience with feral cats and while this one is not considered Feral yet, i figure your my best hope at some tricks and tips to help me catch her.

Did you do it online or actually mail in the ar 11? every time i did the online one i never got a confirmation, as far as i know neither did anyone else. the sponsor one the 865 it took FOREVER for David to get his confirmation. i think the last one it took 2 months. they are really slow with that stuff.

edit: nvm just saw you have a receipt date for it. like i said give it at least 30 days as usual.

CanadaCredit Card?

How is using a credit card in the US any different than using a credit card in Canada? Its pretty much the same thing, no extra fees that I've encountered. Hubby and I have several cards that serve different purposes, points and rewards etc.

I still have my scotiabank credit card, even though I haven't used it in 3 years. I changed my info with them, and they never said it was an issue.

Like flames mentioned Capital One has a new resident card designed for people with no credit who just moved to the US. I had no issues getting approved, but I did wait until I had a job. When I moved my husband added me as an authorized user on his cards so It wasn't an urgent need. If that's an option for you, it will at least establish a credit file, and sometimes helps you start building credit... it worked for me.

Scotia Bank is also affiliated with bank of america. so if i'm up in Canada i can use Scotia atms with out any extra fees etc. Eeach bank has an international section on the website to show what other banks in other countries they are networked with so you can avoid all the nasty charges.

I know that was the case with Presidents choice! Just gave them my parents addy! I just kept the bank account--closed my Credit cards.

I believe Capital one has a CC for people with no to poor credit history

They do. its actually just their basic card. I got one with a 500$ limit after 6 months of living here. no annual fee but the Apr is not exactly great i think its liek 26%. After 3 months they upped my limit to 750$. And its a normal card, not a secured card. Although secured cards will do the same thing and build your credit just that technically you loaning yourself the money, and its more like a prepaid card drawn from your own funds.

CanadaCredit Card?

Before I moved to California, I contacted my bank to tell them about the move and to change my address. I even changed my credit card type and no issues were mentioned. Yesterday, I called to see if I could change my name on my card and found out from the person that supposedly I wasn't allowed to have a Canadian credit card per federal government rules because I was permanently moving to the USA. Does anyone else here still have a CAD credit card, or know more details on this? It was a bit upsetting to suddenly find this out as most of my money is still in my bank account in Canada, so my credit card was my main way of accessing it until I got my banking situation down here figured out. Fortunately I was finally able to get a bank account at a local credit union so I can wire more down here soon, but it kind of sucks that I'm apparently not allowed to have a proper credit card in either Canada or the US yet (US because I'm jobless still). :(

i've had a td visa since 1993. i had no issues calling them to change my name, or to change my Canadian address to USA. He had to override a couple of things to make it say usa rather than Canada on the mailing address but it was no problem for him.

Which location did you call or number? I made sure to call the Toronto number for out of country Canadians.

a few of us stayed there. I did. and it was really nice. I adored the shower. was very quiet. only thing i did not like was the underground parking. it was very tight and its very limited. but it was literally like 2 minutes away from the consulate. they also had a safe in the room big enough for my laptop. you could use w/e code you wanted for it.

i dont know how it is now but it used to be first come first up in the elevator so we showed up at 6:30 regardless of the 9am time on our letter.

CanadaConsidering moving back to Canada
The visa process no matter which way you go is a test of your love and commitment that's for sure. granted its harder on the couple with the american version than the Canadian version. just thinking of all the times i got refused at the border, interrogated, the year i had to stay apart from my fiance. and how ridiculously long it took just to get someone else's permission to marry the person i wanted too. i swear..there were times i did not think we were going to make it. in retrospect, i think that's why they make the process so hard. it should in and of itself rule out most marriage fraud. or at least you would think so.

So getting used to my husbands 401k and not having rrsps etc here was hard for me to understand. Everything has an investment aspect to it..

Now that we are signing up for life insurance, well its the same damn thing? Why does everyone want to invest my money when i don't want it invested lol. I want a normal life insurance policy for X amount of dollars period. i don't want one that lasts for 22 years..GOD i'm only 38!

What gives with all these things here and why do they all have this stupid component of investment??

I have an accounting background so I understand some of it but why is there no OPTION for me to not invest period? I don't get it...I miss my RESP'S and RRSP's and my london life right now :(

i find in chicago the tangerines, mandarins and clementines all taste iccky. mebbie cuz the ones i always bought up north were from Morrocco..but they had an amazing taste. The only thing i've found similar are the Tangelo's i can get in some stores but even then they are hit and miss.

As for Tea, most of the ethnic stores i go to has real british tetley, and i do not mean the "british blend" one its the nomral tetley box but has a brit flag on the box.

Nope, the speed limit drops to 60 in the construction areas (which is crazy to me because i'm from chicago and the NORMAL speed limit posted is only 55 lol) and people typically go 65-70 then. I do too, unless I actually see guys working in the road, then i drop below 60. There are speeders just like any highway in any state, but there's a lot less of them there. If you go to chicago, everyone is passing everyone if every lane because no one in their right mind goes 55 except the elderly.

omg so true..i hate the drivers here in Chicago. they are just so damn rude! worst thing is we don't have a working horn on the car so i'm yelling and swearing half the time when i drive.
KimbearFemaleCanada2012-11-09 11:20:00
CanadaWhat do you miss most about Canada

Trans-Canada Highway is 110km/h. You're right. Everyone goes 10-20km over that. lol.

Wait when did they up the limit on the TCan?? I traveled between Ontario where i lived and Quebec for work for 6 years before i moved to Chicago. Mostly highway so it never bothered me..used to take me and hour to get from west island montreal to VanKleek hill where my house was. and i ALWAYS went almost 20 over the limit..never got a ticket..til i did 30 over..Posted Image OPP told me it wasn't worth their time to stop me for 15-20kph. but more than that? definitely..but he was a sweetie and marked down the speed on my ticket so I did not incur any points.

speaking of points on a licence..how do you explain that to someone here? I've tried and hubby just looks at me clueless like.

Canadawhy does customer service suck so badly at major stores here

All best buys and future shops both us and canada are all idiots.
I'm not even talking customer service to return something.
Because a return policy isn't all I look for in a store.

Too many times have they both sold me things that were NOT correct for what I was looking for.
I just wish tiger direct was closer (in canada).
In the US, we use Fry's which only those from chicago suburbs or California will probably know.

best buy& Future shop are the same company best buy owns future shop they have for quite a few years. the only thing i do like is the price match. i bought my canon camera and it was 100$ cheaper at future shop the week after i bought it at best buy so not only did they refund me, but i got 10% extra off. and since they are sister companies there really was no reason for such a price difference..

Frys i'm not a fan off. or Tiget direct. i bought an hdd at tiger which they tried to bill me 80$ more for in the store when i showed them their own website that it was cheaper....I used to work for a company like this in Canada we had 20 stores in Quebec, i worked there for 10 years from sales to pc tech / builder to franchise /warehouse manager. I know what goes on and the rma in and out with most of the manufactures. Canada and USA use the same suppliers, so i dont get the stupidity in repairs/replacements at some of these stores. I prefer to just buy my stuff off Newegg now. but i do my own research and i know which brands are reliable or not. i dont listen to half the idiots to make stupid reviews with 1 star cuz they dont know how to read a simple instruction.

I love Best Buy, I've never had an issue with their customer service. But I never shopped there in Canada only the US. Maybe American Best Buy is better, or its the luck of the draw.

Kimbear, that's ridiculous and annoying. I've never had a good experience with Sears, I think they're dying for a reason. I've bought most of our furniture at American Furniture warehouse, they're great, but only in CO. Maybe you should consider looking at some local furniture stores and cancel, your Sears order? If that's even an option. At this point I would want to tell them to stick it where the sun don't shine!

I would lol but its not an option at this point! and honestly..i did get a 1600$ bed for 400 on the black friday sale. so i guess i cna't complaint too much, its just..well it all the bs problems with both macy's and sears combined. They dont seem to want to keep customers shopping there anymore.

best buy customer service is hit or miss. although i do prefer the layouts of the canadian ones for media like dvds etc. the ones here in chicago just seem so disorganized.

Canadawhy does customer service suck so badly at major stores here
I'm so frustrated right now and pissed off with the effign crappy customer service at major retail stores.

In May we bought a Simmons beaturyrest bed from Macy's. At first it was great, after 3 months, the top came unstiched and started "camel humping", the boxpring started creaking and making noises, so macy's replaced it with a new set. 3 months later..same damn thing, but iwth the added mattress starting to look like a parallelogram at this point no i don't want another exact model, its a lemon. So i get a replacement authorization i go into the store and we re-select a new model around the same price but from Sealy.

Guess what? they cant' do an exchange, they want to bill me the whole thing over again, and then refund me 20 days after they pick up the defective one. Umm i don't think so i don't have that kind of money just laying around , this is your screw up just +1 -1 in your inventory and deal with it. 2 weeks later they still can't do anything so i say ** it and ask for my money back and for them to pick up this pos bed. its being picked up tomorrow.

last week i go to sears, find a great bed from Serta, decide to get it. Asked father in law if we could put it on his credit card since we have to wait 20 days after tomorrow for our refund on the old simmons bed. ordered the bed from sears on the 26th, earliest delivery was dec 2nd, guess what? the box spring came damaged a nice rip on the top. sigh.

Monday i called customer service to complain, they said they would set up an exchange and to wait for an email confirmation. yeah never got it, spoke to 2 other sears agents who said you should get it by Wednesday. nope nothing

call again today and get told. oh it was never processed!!! WTFZ!! you have to call home delivery we can't do that here. seriously? so i call home delivery and she says we wont get a new bed until dec 13th. 17 days after my original order date, and the day AFTER MY BIRTHDAY!!!. you gotta be freaking kidding me? so i freak out said get me a supervisor right now i'm fed up of this #######. not sleeping on couches / floor until then.

20 mins later all i get told is nothing they can do even though my local store shows stock online ( which is "incorrect" according to them), and they offer me a gift card for my trouble.

i mean ####### is with customer service lately? two major stores now are doing this..and its absolutely ridiculous.

CanadaImmigration Lawyer -- Can It Help Speed Up The Montreal Embassy At All?

Thank you for this information! We're not at all religious, so there is no need for us to have anyone licensed or official perform the ceremony. We'd always planned on it being more of a dress rehearsal or the "Canadian celebration of our [civil, U.S., official] wedding vows" than an official wedding, with a close friend reading the vows. Just that our original plans were for the civil ceremony to be prior to the fake Canadian wedding, but obviously that is looking more and more unlikely as the days tick on, so I thought it might make sense to have the Canadian F&F celebration beforehand rather than afterwards.

(Next August I'm starting an intensive one-year job with no vacation time, so if we postpone the F&F celebration we'll either need to have it in LA (yuck) or put it off for a whole year... and we wanted to think about starting a family soonish. So complicated!)

Maybe if instead of calling it a "wedding" I called it a "celebration" of our (hopefully) impending civil marriage?

And phew, happy to get to save $1500 on a lawyer.

only 1500? lol damn the money we wasted from more than twice that amount! and we never got any back for his screw ups! and that was just for doing the i-129 stuff then he got fired and i did the rest myself.

CanadaImmigration Lawyer -- Can It Help Speed Up The Montreal Embassy At All?
more often than not lawyers actually make the process longer as you have to send back and forth forms to be signed etc. And they can screw up majorly in my case and wont admit it. WE even got a "notice of intent to deny" letter along with multiple RFE's for things they screwed up on. in total it added 9 months to our process. Waste of time money and energy yelling at them and uscis.

this process is really easy if you can read and follow simple instructions. thousands of people have done it themselves and this is a fantastic forum to get help and reassurances when you need them.

Canadaa vent / rant regarding my home phone and ATT

Seriously, use the resources I posted above and report the numbers. They also give you an option to write out your complaint, as well as to see if others are being bothered by these same callers. I find whenever I end up listing a number on these sites, the calls from those numbers stop. Whether it is some official source sending them notices to cease and desist or them finding themselves on the wrong side of licensing agencies or not, I don't know, but the calls stop.

http://www.visajourn...ost__p__5653515

I have reported names and numbers, i even got a reply back from the fcc / ftc etc complaint line and dnc list, basically unless millions of ppl report the same number they can't do anything other than take my complaint in. i still have those replies that were sent to me. I even called the police and made a complaint against the washington number that was coming up as 000-0000, they said they could not do anything either. and i use the who called us site along with a few others like crazy.. right now the sanest thing for me to do is just block everything but the 16 numbers i let through. every one else gets "this caller does not wish to take your call" msg.

No actually it didn't. sigh. i ended up having to take a service that only allows 20 incoming numbers of my choice..every other single one is blocked..only way to fix it for now. :( i tried turning it off for a couple days and bam..8 am 9pm the idiots still call. they are mostly services related to seniors, so i'm guessing the lat person was a senior. I've given up. i may just cancel the whole phone service and get a prepaid cell for the car for emergency and that's it. its just unreal this stupidity.

Canadaa vent / rant regarding my home phone and ATT

I have a skype line, $90/yr ($60 for the number and $30 for outgoing calling) and calling Canada is free. I use it all the time to talk to my sweetie. It has a little echo sometimes, but other than that it has worked great. You can buy handheld phones that work with skype too.

Google voice is also a good choice, it will at least filter out the dead air calls. I use it for voicemail, since it attempts to transcribe what the person is saying to text and emails it to me.

Ya google talk is what i used during our K1 process, but it only works if you both on the pc and click call. There is not actual number to call you just click on the name. My family up north is not exactly tech savvy, and they dont even have computers let alone cell phones unless its for work. I need an actual line that they can call in case of an emergency and i need to be able to call them. Same with Davids parents and his grandparents who are in Florida.

The only reason i haven't 100% decided on Vonage or one of those is based on if there is a power failure. What happens then? I have no hone at all. Im thinking our best bet is to try and get a preaid cell, and see if tmobile can give us back our old numbers. Its only been a couple months, and those numbers we never got calls on at all.
KimbearFemaleCanada2012-08-31 09:01:00
Canadaa vent / rant regarding my home phone and ATT

Isn't there something you can buy to block calls? It would mean of course having to get each call first, but then you could just block them from ever contacting you again. And like most do with cell phones (I know yours is a landline), call display and if the number doesn't come up with a valid recognized number, let them leave a message and then block it if needed. If they don't leave a message, block it etc. Eventually that should weed out the majority of them...

if they spoof the number with a computer it can't be blocked whatsoever, thats the issue. ATT can't even block it on their end when i called the supervisor. I had to call the cops first so they can do an investigation to get a warrant to get the number or something like that. ONLY then with an active investigation can ATT trace the call and do something about it. Well thats how it was explained to me anyway.I can't even use call return or w/e its called on these numbers cuz the number doesn't exist technically that even shows up. and they are getting very creative with it.

One of the numbers i have blocked now gets through again as the caller display sees it as an international number with 11 before the 10 digit number now. The other time they do it it shows up as just 1 on the caller ID. Both i've tried to get blocked but ATT says its impossible to do and the robo computer will just randomly generate new numbers to try and get through with. The only info we have is that its originating from Washignton.

I offer the following:

1. ask for the fax # of the complaint department.
2. ask for the fax # of the accounts payable department.
3. fax a letter to the complaint department, clearly outlining the problem with the prior holder of that phone number, asking them to remove this number from their database, and notice them that they will receive an invoice for 125 usd per additional call into your telephone.
4. fax an invoice off each time you receive a phone call.
5. tally over 1000 bucks in invoices to one entity? File a claim in small claims court, no attorney required.

Over a year, if'n you do this, this problem goes away, and you'll get a nice chunk of change - it's almost free money, if you can handle a filing system and an accounting system.

I like that idea but it wont help if they a) immediately hang up on me when i say no such person, and b) when i call back the number it shows up as disconnected. Also some of these calls spoof the numbers so i can't even call them back and att can't tell me what the number is. I think we're just going to end up cancelling the hosue phone. as soon as i use up that 300$ credit i had to fight for with ATT. thats another vent..lawl.

And yeah like huggles said i have anonymous call blocking so alot of the calls dont get in anymore now but its still annoying. This robo calling or w/e it is has to stop. I can't be the only one with stupidity happenign like this on a daily basis, and iknow at least here in Illniois its illegal.

Canadaa vent / rant regarding my home phone and ATT

Wow. That's just crazy. Posted Image And despicable.

We have Vonage and I love it. Absolutely no problems with it whatsoever. And don't worry about the 911 issue. You just enter your physical address in the 911 section so the emergency services know your location. Easy peasy. I also have the virtual number option so my friends and family can call me locally. Plus you also get the free long distance add-on (no charge) so you can call anywhere in North America or Europe from your cell phone for free. Love it.

ahh ok so you list the physical addy on it.. neat.. see i've used 911 a few times for car accidents i've seen on the highway, or my neighbours barn that was on fire..and it freakign sent me to 911 4 towns over..needless to say her barn burned to a crist..so i'm wary of 911 with a cell phone. I"ll look into the vonage thing again. Teh officer will come back on Monday poor guys has to work on the holiday, and hell let me know if there is anything that can be done or not. Like i said, its stupid i have to get the police to do this...instead of ATT.....just so lame.

Start having fun with them...
Oh no I'm sorry he can't come to the phone right now because I have him chained up in the basement with his mouth taped shut , so that he can't call out for help. It's punishment, I run a pretty tight ship around here.
Frank, Frank is that you? I haven't talked to you in ages! How have you been? How are the kids? Sorry to hear about your wife... Continue to ramble on until they hang up on you for a change.
Oh my god! I can't believe it! My psychic was right! She said that a man with the answers to all my problems would call. Well since my problem is that I am emotionally unstable and about to lose my mind from loneliness, I thought I could come live with you since you have all the answers! Once again keep on rambling till they hang up.
If they start out with, "How are you today?" say, "Why do you want to know?" Or you can say, "I'm so glad you asked, because no one seems to care these days and I have all these problems, my sciatica is acting up, my eyelashes are sore, my dog just died...." When they try to get back to the sales process, just continue on with telling about your problems.
Last but not least, Hey want to come over and help me sacrifice a goat?

Thanks for the laugh....oh man..i should try this next time!

Canadaa vent / rant regarding my home phone and ATT
As most of you know we moved into our new home April 26th. For the first time in a while, we got a landline phone in case of emergencies, and ditched our cell phones were were 120$ a month for a 25$ month home phone. Seemed like a good idea at the time until we started getting calls from creditors and sales people etc, for the old people who had the number and from companies who bought a list from our Bank. Needless to say putting our name and number on the do not call registry did not help, telling these laywers creditors etc that the people they are looking for do not own this number anymore did not help. telling companies to not call again and remove us from their list did not help, so we got ATT to change our home number.

Fast forward to now and lo and behold its starting AGAIN! so i call up att only to be told they cant block half the numbers because they are being blocked by illegal computer software to change the number and not display the true identiy of the callers. We get at least 10 of these calls aday, the most recent are ones that dont even say a word its just dead air.

So after being told there is nothing att can do other than change the number again i have to go to the police. YEP thats right! ATT can't do anythign even though we have an unlisted number, have complained multiple times, tried to get calls blocked, and have been on the DNC registry. So today i called the cops, and a really nice Irish cop came to my door (loved his accent) and he was surprised ATT said they could not do anything! "usually we just call att and have them take care of it"...really..weird cuz the super told me they can't. UGH.

anyway i dont know what to do now..i'm so annoyed..that this is happening. its a huge pain to change the number again and wait again for the DNC registry to kick in since its a 30 day wait. And to notifiy soooo many people of the new number.. The officer mentioned Vonage to me..said that might be an option if i did not want to go back to a cell phone, ( i told him we cancelled it cuz we werent sure how it worked with 911 since our town is in two diff counties, not to mention the huge bill it was at the time).

Blargh! I can't recall ever havign this much issue with phone calls in Canada with an unlisted number. I mean jeez its so many hoops i have to go through to make sure i dont get theses annoying calls..OH and dont forget removing listings from search pages with google yellowpages etc!

I just had to vent..cuz its stupid att can't do anythign and wants me to have the police do their job for them..GRRR! Having to call them for this is retarded..even i know their time is better spent elsewhere!
