On form 1-485 what date do I use in section 1 where it says USCIS status and then expiration date? is the exp date the 3 months from when i activate my visa or the exp date on my visa Thanks, your time will be comming soon!!! It's the date of your i94 the 3 month expiry date after your poe. i did my poe april 6 and my expiry date which is 3 months after (the 90 days you have to get married in) is july 5th, which is the same date in my passport and i 94. Canada	How to return paid GST to CRA	So i thought when you got gst it was for last years..ie: 2009 tax return is what we just did. So the money for gst that i spent last year..i'm not allowed to keep ? that totally sucks..i figured since i moved to usa in 2010 it would be the tax return for 2010 that i would not be allowed to keep...sigh..this means i have to return the cheque i just got in my bank..doens't it? damn it. Canada	How Long ? Geez!	It would be interesting to see others weigh in here on the lawyer representation aspect. From my understanding, there is a document the petitioner signs which basically gives power-of-attorney to the lawyer to act on their behalf. That is why all communication goes directly to the lawyer and bypasses the petitioner. Hope this gets resolved soon, Catbones. Correct, it's the g-28 if i recall. in fact we got almost zero mail from uscis and had to keep harassing our lawyer to send us stuff. finally david got in touch with uscis, and they started sending him "complimentary" notices saying the same thing almost, and stating that the originals were sent to lawyer. even our noa2 was a complimentary one. in the end we made the laeyer give us the complete file includiing all originals and copies of everything and fired him for his screwups. I crossed the border July 1st and the border guy was in the worst mood..he made me go to another officer who was really nice and all was good . I just stated I was visiting a friend (still waiting on Noa2)and then he asked me who paid for my plane ticket I said I did, and then said "oh no my freind did"...cause usually I do pay for my ticket! anyhow...my next visit is in September...and im flying to Vegas for a friends wedding and my fiancee will be meeting me there...then we are flying to Denver (he paid for my 1 way las-den)and from Denver im flying back home on my American Airlines points...so im a little nervous....again lol No reason to say your friend. you can say your fiance, not like your doing anything illegal are you? by doing the k1 route you are doing the immigration process legally. no reason to lie or not state the truth. they can find out the info pretty quick in the computers if they want to, especially if they ask your your friends name. Canada	Proof of ties to Canada	Hello. I have questions for Canadians who visited their fiancee in the U.S. I dont have the NOA or P3 or any immigration forms yet. I filed for a I-129F form and my fiancee recieved the reciept which I have the number of. So can I visit him? What should I bring with me, other then usual documents to proof im coming back to Canada? Should I go to the us customs here in montreal at the airport and ask them advice? and if they say try it why not then do the ticket there? what do u advice me? thanks. and good luck to everyone and have a wonderful time with ur loved ones when u see them for a bit or forever the receipt is your first NOA or NOA1 as we call it. If you can get a copy of it and your original package you sent that would be very good to have on hand. Again it all comes down to the individual POE officer. Did you ever use the tunnel? I imagine at some point I'll be crossing via one or the other. Canada	Proof of ties to Canada	Like Katheryn says about bringing the petition, i brought my huge folder everytime. more often than not they looked at the noa and ignored the rest lol. they did not want to have to read it all. Actually they only did once, the very first time i tried to cross, then they put a bunch of stuff in the computer and after that it was easy. every time they would just ask me where are you going, for how long, when are you comming back with the occasional do you have your interview date yet. I can bring a copy of what we sent but we may not have a confirmation the it was received by USCIS! that doesn't matter, just explain you sent it in but have not received your receipt for it. did you send it by courrier? if so you can bring that. I have a copy of my fedex receipt, copy of the cheque, and a printout of when it was received / signed for. bringing a copy of the petition itself wont hurt you either. I crossed for an entire month during my k1 process. just be truthful and honest and bring a copy of your k1 file with you and proof of ties to canada as usual. do not be scared if they pull you in to secondary they did for me each time i crossed. Canada	POE - What to expect?	lol poor ashen had a bad experience there..however i had a good one well the fact it was during shift change was bad..but i was just so damn happy to get to process my visa i didn't care What you can do is research the poe reviews, ashenflowers did one, i did one, Sam&Ben, there are a few others that crossed there in the last year as well. that may help you. my tips are make sure you get an i-94 and pay the 6$ for it, and make sure your name is spelled correctly on it. Canada	How Long till Packet 4 in Montreal?	Anybody want to share the length of time between packet 3 being logged in and receiving your interview date/packet 4 from Montreal? Everybody wants to know "when's the wedding???" but I just can't answer that...I know Montreal is soooo slow, but I'd really just like some idea of when I'll be able to set a wedding date! oh how i can empathize with that !! I got my P3 in december, it was logged a month later in January and at the end of january i called got my date and received my p4 in february, mid feb i believe. nowadays..not sure how long montreal is taking. Canada	ive got a question for yall	Its funny how this topic comes up every week, if not several times a week sometimes! There really is no magic response , it all comes down to how one handles them-self, and the POE officer! If he or she is having a crappy day, well that may not be good news for you. Plus if you use words such as "stay" vice "visit", that may set off an alarm! Who knows! Just tell the truth and be polite. As I have said before, it all comes down to the POE officer, their views on the laws seem to vary between officers Aint that the truth. Just from personal experience here..and it happend on more than one occasion, being interogated for multiple hours, fingerprinted and photographed, my huband (then fiance) included, is not a fun process at a border crossing no matter the time of day or if it was on your birthday.... Case in point here, would be me. People are just trying to prepare you for what can happen. but hey..you seem to have all the answers..so why even bother asking the hundreds of people on this board who have already done and gone through these experiences? They always say that. Just copy is id and passport, thats what i did to show his domicile in the usa. they just want to make sure he still lives in the usa i guess. Canada	Completely Terrified about Monday	You will be fine. The day of our interview, when we met SteflovesBran, stef was in tears that morning after her mom dropped her off. She had a minor conviction from years ago for shoplifting, if i remember correctly, and was terrified that they would not approve her. She was scared for so many reasons, just as you are. In the end? she got approved, with no problems what so ever, and she showed up solo. I was scared as well. But i did not realize how easy simple quick and PAINLESS the interview really is. Trust me, you will be fine. As for AP, well that rarely rarely happens, especially to k1 in canada, i think i have only ever heard of one case where it happend. Canada	When can I start worrying?	Hi... So J&J and I had our interview on the same day, and she got a hit on her enveloppe while checking the Canada Post website... I haven`t got anything yet... When is it 'normal' to start worrying about Montreal having lost, forgotten, used as fire starter my enveloppe with my visa? And can DOS inform you of anything? Like when it was shipped and such? My envelope didn't even show up on tracking til i had it in my hand. i wouldn't worry. took exactly 7 days for me to get it. the guy told me it would be in the mail that day or the next..well it didn't get put in the mail til the following monday. took a few days to mail it. they are Soooo slow. Canada	montreal embassy?? taking long?	To be fair to montreal, they do process more visas than vancouver. Montreal is the only consulate in Canada to do spousal visa's like the cr-1 / ir-1. I can't quite find the link, but there is one somewhere hidden in the dos site that shows how many visas each consulate in each country processes. However, that doesn't mean Montreal shouldn't at least answer a few emails marked emergency etc, or that they should take months to process paperwork after the visa interview.
