I can't get through to the DOS - just keep getting that message about how all the specialists are busy try again later. Did you all get a letter, an email, or just talk to the DOS?

we called dos first thing this am. they also said that the p4 aka interview letter was mailed out friday. just keep trying to call if you want to know in advance the date.

congratulations to all the interviewees! Hopefully more post some good news! :)

so it's impossible to get through to DOS since the earthquake in Haiti. "all circuits are busy please try again later". i doubt emailing montreal will make much of a diff..been a month and a half since my last email with still no reply.

The way my k1 process has been going with all the delays mistakes etc. we have not set an exact date. Other than to say 2 days after i use the visa lol. Just going to have a quickie wedding at his parents house, his dad will officiate, and we'll have a "proper" wedding next year on our anniversary. i'm to scared to actually plan anything and then have to cancel it all if we have any more visa issues. :(

David called dos today..my p3 was finally logged as of the 11th.

They are "restructuring their interview system" because of the backlog for september. We were told they hired new ppl. and i quote "every thing is pristinely beautiful, just your going to have to wait through the backlog 8-10 weeks" and they're moving through the backlog but they still have people from sept/oct needing dates still, "call back every day if you like, you might get one sooner"

lol quoted from David "Frigging DOS is Bipolar, several days in a row I get some madwoman who hangs up on me and is a witch, then today like the first 2 times I called I get someone who is super nice and sounds like they wish they could give me the date right there
I also didn't wait a second on hold
It was "your wait time is approximately three.....*RING*"

And still our p3 has not been logged. argh getting mad here.

Toronto Nonie's and our dates are almost exactly the same. I was frustrated when they told me in December that despite our P3 being delivered the first week of November, it was not logged until November 25.

I keep hearing the same thing from DOS - Montreal is very backlogged and they are doing their best to make it move more efficiently. I did have one phone call in December where the agent told me that there was expectation that Montreal would start to reduce the backlog after the new year. I asked if she could tell me what that meant, but she made some comment about "false hope" and reverted to the standard - there is a substantial backlog and that I should know they are doing everything they can to try to reduce the backlog as quickly as possible.

I've started calling on Mondays only, because like someone posted on an earlier page, it's too much of a disappointment to hear "no interview yet" more than once a week.

I feel for all of you that can't see your fiance often during this process. Makes me realize how fortunate we have been.

Here's hoping for good news soon! :)

My p3 has still not been logged and they got it dec 23. When i called DOS i was told specifically that it was part of the backlog they are having. And yes i agree with you on the not calling..back at the earlier stages i was frantically checking lists, calling, emailing resarching etc. Now? sigh i dunno, but once a week is good enough for me.. i'd rather not get stressed out and make my self sick again. it causes enough strain on my relationship and i'd rather not go back to that but try and think positively on the future even if i don't quite know when that will be.

I am also one of the lucky ones now, thanks to being able to quickly packup and move. Being right on the border and 5 hours from David is a godsend. No more 3-6 months visits. If i didn't have that i'd be crazy again lol.

Hugs to all of us waiting.

I just wish i knew how montreal processed interviews. It really hurts to see ppl who got their noa2 so much later than i did get the whole journey done in 8 months while i'm still waiting for an interview. dont get me wrong i'm happy for all those who have been reunited with their loved ones, but i just get so sad at how much time has passed and how long we have been forced to be apart and not start our life together :( some ppl seem to get interviews in 2 motnhs others it takes 5-6 and it's really maddening to see that happen. :( blargh.

What with the holidays we really haven't even tried calling Dos. DAvid called once and spent 2 hours on hold and gave up. Going to start calling again Monday. Has anyone noticed a time of day when it less busy?

ok so how long does it take for montreal to reply to emails? it's been past 8 working days. and i've had zero reply other than the automated one. can dos let you know as well if you get an interview date or do they just tell you if the packet was logged? Montreal got my p3 on the 22nd, and although i've been busy with david in chicago i'm curious to know when to start calling / emailing / harassing tongue.gif to find out a date for my interview.

Question! Doesn't Montreal automatically extend, reissue, or whatever it is they do to NOA2s that have an expiring NOA2? My expiration(I'm making it sound like milk, LOL) is 2/27/2010. So if I dont have my interview before that they'll have to push it back. Riggghhhhttt?

Yes they do. My noa2 expired dec 6th, and nvc told us it gets automatically extended.

Good Luck !

I am currently waiting for my packet 3 to come from Montreal. I have been waiting over 2 months now for it. It was sent to my old address even though my fiance informed the NVC of my new one. So I emailed Montreal and they said they would send a new packet, this was almost 3 weeks ago. And I have been emailing everyday to try and get a response from them when they sent out the second packet. Does anyone know of a phone number where I could actually talk to someone instead of emailing. Thanks!

Oh lord...i changed my address with NVC too! i sent email to mtl asking for confimration on address and on my petition from nvc..EEK. I hope it doesn't go to Quebec!

Well Monteal got my app from nvc on Monday, so i'm guessing my packet 3 will be in a couple weeks..then i'm figureing my interview will only be earliest March. 1 year compared to the 3 months i was originally told..lol.

And steph, i would not worry about being moody. David got to see sides of me i did not even know existed during this whole process. And then just when you think your almsot at the finish line you find out your still screwed over by delays at Montreal as opposed to Vancouver.

Ah well..c'est la vie eh?

I just wish my mind would stop playing games with me. The other night I had a nightmare that I got to the consulate, got inside and had left all the support stuff at home, so I had to run (not drive...not sure why) all the way home to get it and by the time I got back they were closed.

hehe ya it's been a long time comming smile.gif What you need to do is thoroughly occupy your self with stuff. Keep talking to Wes as much as possible that helps too hearing their voice. Will wes be going to the interview with you?

Ugh, so we're 10 days away and I literally cannot stop panicking. I was in tears twice tonight and have gone over my folder probably about 6 times today. I don't know why I'm so scared but I am. I'm afraid I will have forgotten something or that they want something extra and tell us they can't approve us. I don't even know how I would react.....probably break down in tears again. I love Wes so much and I really don't want to screw anything up. I just want to be in his arms again. crying.gif

Sweetie, you are probably one of the most prepared people i know on this site. And i know how hard it has been for you and wes to be away from each other this long. You will do fine on the 23rd..i know you will. Stay strong, keep remembering how much you two love each other, and remember that the end of the long wait will be soon over. Think about what you will do the first week you two are together. Thinking of the future usually helps me especially if it involves thinking of future children smile.gif

Hugs, you will be fine Steph..i know you will.

Speaking of interview dates..have any For August been done yet? I can't rembmer where i read / heard about this..but the system only lets them book interviews for 6 weeks at a time? they cannot book further than that in advance?

Just trying to figure out once i'm approved ( hopefully any day now grr argh tongue.gif ) when the likely interview would be. Was hoping originally for poe sept 6th our anniversary, but based on stephs (danu) timeline and wait so far for her interview, i'm thinking i'll be lucky if I get to David by Christmas....which ironically would make one year that we have been apart..

I have this feeling you will get your NOA2 soon, and for some reason I think you will get it in the mail instead of online. Digging through the timelines it looks as if most K1's for May were done this month, so that would leave May/June for August interviews, and June/July people in Sept. Hopefully you get through NVC quickly. If you did get through this week and get your package in a timely manner and back really fast (which I know you will :lol) you might be looking at an October interview. *crosses her fingers*

Sorry if I am coming off a little paranoid lol I have heard that the Border Patrol people do have the power to not allow you to enter the States even though you have gone through the k1 visa process, but luckily from the sounds of it, they havent banned anyone yet. Sweet! I think I am going to fly from Toronto to Chicago so I wonder if there is any pro's or con's to going through customs at an airport instead of driving through? It will be the same weekend as Lollapollooza so I am guessing things will be a little hectic and maybe it'll inevitably speed up the process. Thank you very much for the Hotel Le Nouval suggestion, I will check it out!

LOL lets not talk about being paranoid tongue.gif i'm the one who thinks my app is sitting ona guys desk who took off for vacation and won't be back anytime soon smile.gif

I think most red flags do/must get cleared up at the interview. Just be open and honest and look them right in the eyes when you talk. I'm gonna be flyign to Chicago too! But from Montreal. David says the poe at the airport is a joke and is super easy. maybe it's becuz of the amounts of ppl they process more so compared to land crossings i'm not sure. And the great thing is..once you get to Ohare and get off the plane..you can just leave and go home!!! smile.gif

how can you still be denyed entry if you have a valid legal K-1 visa? Iv never heard of this.

They mean denied entry before being issued a visa... going to the US as a regular visitor

tpr said this in thier post tho " I am even more afraid of when I cross the border to move to the States, even having a valid K1 visa.. because the Border Patrol Officer can still deny me. "

i dont see how that means entry as a regular visitor seems as tho it means entry with her k1 visa.

it's about the future..when she eventually does get the visa. technically yes cbp can still decide to say no. although i've never read a case where they have refused.

and yes sparky and my posts were about being denied as regular visitors to the USA.

omg ty for posting that sparky..about them asking about the entry refusal. I was so worried about this as i was refused entry back in december for the same reason and was worried it might delay my whole visa approval and everything!

As for the bus stop there are two ..one goes to dorval train station which is the stop close by with all the busses to downtown, the other goes to the fairview mall in west island. Just ask the driver which way hes headed as you cant really tell on the buss itself.

congratulations on the approval!

Kimbear you have nothing to worry about. The customs officer who stopped me made it very clear that this would have no affect on the visa. During the interview at the consulate I was asked to explain what happened so I rhymed off what our moving plan/intentions had been and that was it. There were no further questions, and I wasn’t lectured or interrogated about it in any way at all.

I'm very happy to hear that you werent interrogated too badly when you were refused entry before. I have been literally freaking out about moving to the States because when I entered back in Sept 08 I was interrogated for at least 3 hours at the Buffalo border about my ties back to Canada and they thought I was intending to move to the United States permanently. They stamped an "n/c" on my passport which I found out later meant that I could not change my status while in the States. They also typed everything I said into their computer which I am guessing has been red flagged into ther system, beside my passport number. I'm concerned that when I go to Montreal for my interview next week, that they will ask a lot of questions regarding that because it will be tagged in the system, also I am even more afraid of when I cross the border to move to the States, even having a valid K1 visa.. because the Border Patrol Officer can still deny me. Has anyone else had a similar situation happen to them? Also, does anyone have a suggestion of a Hotel that is close to, or across from the Montreal Consulate? Thanks everyone!!

hehe umm each time i was stopped it was for 3-4 hours as well..my fiance was with me and they interogated him too and he is the USC. fingerprinted and photographed twice i was...first time it happend we thought i was being arrested. both of these were at land crossings, one in montreal champlain, and the other was at sarnia ontario.

Just be truthful in your interview. And i dont think you'll have a problem once you get the visa. by that time police checks etc have been done proving you are ok.

As for hotels..there area a few review around here, most were found i belive on hotwire for really cheap..Le nouvel? i think is one that was recomended and fairly cheap like 80$ a day.

I had my interview yesterday and the visa was approved!! I really don’t have anything to add about the interview itself as my experience was similar to everyone else’s. It was very simple, they didn’t ask many questions at all: how did we meet? what does my fiancé do for a living? have I ever been arrested? and I was asked about the time I was denied entry at the border (lack of ties to Canada); and they didn’t want any of my evidence of an ongoing relationship (other then my updated letter of intent from my fiancé). All of the people I dealt with were friendly, and the view of Montreal from up there was fantastic.

I do have some bus info for anybody who is flying into Montreal. The airport shuttle bus to downtown costs $16, but you can take the regular city bus for $2.75 (have exact change). The bus stop is right outside the terminal near where you get the tickets for the shuttle bus. Take bus #204 which will stop at a bus terminal not far away, then switch to bus #211. This one will stop right outside the XX metro station where you can then use the same ticket from the bus (it’s valid for 2 hours for connections) to get on the metro to your final destination. It’s not a lot of money to save, but if you’re taking the shuttle/metro anyhow it might be worth while.

It’s such a relief to finally be finished. Good luck to those still waiting, like other people have commented, this really was the easiest part of the process so far.

Related interview question (that's likely been asked 80 000 times already): Is it mandatory that the US citizen attend the interview? Circumstances may dictate that I do it alone, which I'm cool with, but still-wanted to ask/be aware of ahead of time...

Thanks smile.gif

Nope. The USC does not have to go. I think they (interviewers) like it, because what better proof can you show than a real live breathing human being??!! But, it is not required.

CanadaCanadians and different ways of thinking in the US

First, a bit of my background. After the man who became my husband and I developed a relationship online and met in a neutral city, I spent 2 months with him in Michigan. That time was mostly for us to decide if we wanted to move forward, but it was also for me to decide if I could be comfortable living in Michigan. The answer was yes for both parts of that, and we've been married and living in Michigan for over 3 years.

I really like living in a small city (compared to a big Canadian city) in this state. People are friendly and genuine, and it didn't feel like a huge adjustment. I'm happy living here. But we had a possible opportunity to move to a different state (Texas) a few months ago, and while we ended up staying here, it got me thinking. I chose to live in Michigan to be with my husband, but could I be just as happy in another part of the US?

While of course there are differences, Michigan isn't hugely different from Canada. But my impression is that the mentality can be quite different for the majority of people in some other states, particularly states further south. The line between religion and everything else might not be as clear, and women might not have the same rights and status in reality despite what the law says. I've gotten that impression from the media, from news articles about how specific situations were handled, from what some people have told me, and from what politicians from some states say. I don't know if that impression is accurate, though.

This isn't a "right" or "wrong" question. Some things do feel wrong to me as a Canadian, but I imagine that to people who think very differently from me, some things would feel wrong if they were in Canada. My question is how you, as a Canadian, feel about the ways of thinking in the part of the US that you live in. Was it an easy adjustment? Did you see things differently after you'd lived there for a while? Are you happy living where you are? In what other parts of the US would you want to or not want to live based on the mentality of that area?

I"ve been in Chicago for over a year now..and to this day i keep annoying my husband at times with "its not like that in Canada, or we dont do that in Canada, and I like the way Canada does it better".

He's learned that i'm still adjusting to alot of differnet things. And hes also learned ther are some things i wont compromise on espeically when it comes to shopping. As for the mentality, i live in an area where there are alot of different ethnic groups, and ironically i'm the minority ( tiny white english girl). Trying to adjust to living in a complex with this many mid easterners mexicans and asians is hard for me. I get constant annoying looks, i've bene yelled at for many things, I've seen people sneer at me and say stuff in other languages. It has brought me to tears many times. To be honest, i'd have to say and my husband commented on it as well, there is so much rudeness here that i have been angry alot, and in some cases i'd say i've become racist in a way. Although he tells me the rudeness is a chicago thing. Also the drivers here are all nutbergers. lol. But the way women seem to be treated here annoys the ** out of me. Like the old adage stay home barefoot and pregnant? yeah that gets thrown at me in many ways...and on more than one occasion my husband has had to stop me from almost punching ppl. So much for being the nice Canadian eh? LOL.

I would imagine any other part of the usa is different in ways too, just like montreal quebec is differnet than Hawekesbury ontario, and i've lived in both places. I grew up in Montreal, but i hated the people and politics there, and being english i hated the french naturally :P. When i moved to Hawkesbury Ontario, (halfway between montreal and ottawa) it was a whole new world. i absolutely adored the area, the peple and hte places. Friendliness and smiling people were everywhere even if you had no idea who they were. In montreal if i said hello to a random person they would give me alook like i was crazy. lol.

CanadaMoving to Canada after being a US citizen my whole life??
The Bold part that Udella wrote is the hardest part of getting a passport. Most Canadians have only had one since the new rules were put into effect 2years ago (?) i think. So for me finding someone with a unexpired passport of 5 years was very hard, add on the fact they had to know me for 2 years already. I ended up asking a co-worker to do it for me.
