USCIS Service CentersService Centers have duration instead of dates
Update! CSC now has "March 15th" listed as their current processing time for I-129F packets. By their figuring, I might get mine done as soon as...February. Suck. dead.gif

USCIS Service CentersService Centers have duration instead of dates
I saw that today and was sort of annoyed. They ought to put the dates back up because there are probably going to be quite a number of people who are going to be calling them and asking them "six months from WHEN???"

And also for the people who can't count backwards. whistling.gif

United KingdomLIVE UK TV
I became a Top Gear addict when I was in Britain and since the original episodes weren't broadcast until BBC America finally realized we wanted to see it, I managed to acquire the entire collection of the current format from Series 1 through Series 9. If anybody's looking for a particular episode, drop me a line and I'd be more than happy to upload it somewheres for your viewing pleasure. innocent.gif smile.gif

United KingdomTax question
Alternately, you can also claim zero. You'll end up paying higher taxes during the year, but you will be guaranteed to receive a refund when you file your tax return. Otherwise, I would agree with fwaguy and claim only yourself.

United KingdomFairytale in New York
Oddly, I've never heard a censored version of Dire Straits' Money for Nothing in spite of the fact that it contains the lines, "That little faggot with the earring and the make-up. ... That little faggot got his own jet airplane. That little faggot, he's a millionaire."

That gets played on US radio stations all the time at all hours of the day and as far as I remember was never censored, or at least wasn't censored anywhere I heard it.

Regardless, censorship doesn't solve anything, ever. Hiding things and pretending they don't exist never solves anything. Having age-appropriate discussions with your kids about "taboo" subjects is the only solution.

United KingdomYoung Brits Can't Boil Eggs
QUOTE (Mags @ Jan 16 2008, 11:16 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I know people here (in the US) who grow herbs - me included. However, if I was at a friend's house I would ask permission first and, if it was an outside plant, wash the leaves first too. biggrin.gif

It was an indoor plant and I did ask permission. His comment to the room in general was "OMIGOD! She's eating LEAVES!" 'It's basil,' said I. "It's LEAVES!" 'BASIL!' "LEAVES!!!"

Like I said, apparently basil is grown in bottles in this country....

At least young Brits know where their food comes from.

I was eating spaghetti at a friend's house only to have his friend be absolutely horrified when I grabbed some basil leaves off of a nearby plant and shredded them on top of my food.

Apparently, basil is grown in bottles in the US....

United KingdomBecause it's almost here
My family is somewhere around half Polish, so instead of Pancake Day, we've always celebrated Paczki (pronounced: PUUN-Shkee) Day. Those are glazed donuts filled with strawberry or raspberry jelly-type stuff, theoretically to represent the blood of Christ, but I think more just because they taste good. smile.gif

My fiance is not religious and has never mentioned Pancake Day, so perhaps I can convince him that Paczkis are better. smile.gif

United KingdomBeneficiary Address Change
So the UK beneficiary has moved house and the NVC has sent the packet on to the London Embassy. They probably have not received it yet. Fiance says that there's no real mail forwarding service to speak of in the UK, so he's sent the Embassy an e-mail with his new address, but received nothing but an automated reply.

Did he do the right thing? Is there anything else he should do? I'm concerned that he won't receive his packet since the address now differs from the one I gave on the petition. Anybody else have this situation?

United KingdomAwful, cheesy pick-up lines
I have a friend who will walk up to me, lick the sleeve of my shirt, and then say "We should really get you out of those wet clothes."

Same friend will also say, "Nice shirt, is it felt?" and when the target female says "No," he'll grab a short length of it and rub it and say "It is now."

If he wasn't such an imp, he'd get slapped a lot more often. Fortunately, he's the kind of guy you just sort of have to love and although he's definitely flirting with you when he says it, it doesn't usually creep anybody out.
