POE last yesterday at Houston.
Cali - Houston no problems. About 2 hours total for immigration. We went to the line for the visitors, then she was asked to go to a processing room and I waited for another 45 minutes. While I was waiting I was reclaiming our luggage.

Arrived here in SFO at 9:30pm and we were home by 11:00 pm.

A fin, K1 chapter closed, AOS begins.

No, the documents you send along with the AOS packet do not have to be translated by a certified translator, but the person who translates them has to certify on the document showing the translation that he/she is fluent in English. This could be a friend, a family member or someone you ask. A translation can cost $9k pesos in Colombia but some of them will say that you need the documents "apostilled" in order to have them translated, this is NOT TRUE, they're just trying to get more money out of you.

Chester said that Dr. Roa accepted his fiancée's vaccination card and they were not that recent. My husband got his back in June, so we'll see what he says since he's seeing the same doctor.

Hey guys, i had some questions

I saw in a previous post by Lucho that the birth cert for AOS process does not have to be translated by a certified translator. Is this still the case? They are charging her $60.000 COP for the translation I this is too much. Want to avoid any unnecessary expenses.

In a previous post by Diana I read that vaccines are only valid for 8 days. Is this still true? Chester and Luish how long before your fiancées had there vacancies done before going to the interview?

And if anyone knows changing addresses or moving states before going to the interview. Will this cause a problem at the interview?

Dre thank you for the Declaracion Juramental. My fiancées is also going to get a letter from the church she was baptized at.

Thanks guys

Yes, you will still need to get the Declaracion Juramental even if you have the Registro Civil. Dont try to cut corners headbonk.gif It is always better to be overprepared than just have enough to get you by.

Question to the club,

I have read that if you relocate or move you have to fill out an online form at USCIS after 10 days of relocating.

Has anyone one Relocated addresses or states for that matter during the wait of NOA2? And if so was easy or did it complicate the process?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. good.gif

Rafael, we also had the same situation and what you need is called a Declaracion Juramental. It needs to be filled out and signed by a relative (not the parents) that can witness the birth (an uncle or aunt will work well) ....they don't care about your religious affiliation. As you know, the baptism certificate acts as a birth certificate for many Colombians who are born far from a city (en el campo) and that is why the govn't uses it interchangeably with the registor civil. The Declaracion Juramental will take its place. If you PM me your email address, I'll forward you the form. Have a relative sign the document with a Notary.

The definitions I would use are as follows:
Authenticated = A person with the required knowledge (in this case, knowledge of both languages) is making a statement and signing that the information is correct as presented. This person is not required to have some special license, such as a Notary Public.
Apostilled = This is a term referring to an "officially" certified copy of a document, such as a divorce decree or birth certificate, that will be recognized internationally. In the United States, for example, if you get a copy of your birth certificate to provide to Colombia authorities, it must be "apostilled" by your state's Secretary of State office. They handle this sort of stuff all the time.
Notarized = This refers to a document that is viewed and certified by a Notary Public - usually to witness a signature. Notaries in the US have considerably less power or authority than those in Colombia, where they seem to serve more in the role of a Justice of the Peace or paralegal.

So, short answer to your question - no, a document does not have to be notarized to be authenticated. I translated the birth records for Lorena's sons and a young waitress working at a local Mexican restaurant read the documents over and signed them stating they were accurate translations. My divorce decree, however, was apostilled at the Missouri Secretary of State's office, while some documents were notarized by a lady at my bank.

I know it can be confusing, but it becomes clearer as you go through the process. Just hang in there.

Paseo Judicial
Certificado Migratorio (has been ordered)

Some of things on the packet 3 list she won't need...

First time married no divorce decree needed
No crimes committed any need for criminal background check.
Not catholic no fe de bautismo registered.
Never been in the military no military record needed.

Good moooooring, Colombia club

Yesterday I was speaking to Yuly and ask me to ask you guys If the DAS Certificado Judicial has to have on there where the person is going. In her case she would put USA but is this needed. The reason we ask is because her aunt just was in the process to get a Spain visa and the CO notice that the DAS did not have that bit of information of where she was going (Spain), so they sent her back. So we are wondering is this the case for our DAS request.

She also asked if we needed the Certificado Migratorio or Certificado de entrada y salidad, or are they one in the same?

Can anyone help me out on this ...I will be reviewing previous post as well to see any info I have missed on this topic.

Thanks guys.

Rent receipts? For rental of what? An apartment for the spouse/fiancee in Colombia? Never hear of this before. If there is anything "unique" to your facts and circumstances related to your case, you may want to bring along evidence.

Maybe your are talking about the "declaraciones de renta"...which is your 1040.

By the way, if you have the tax transcript, you don't need copies of your return....and vice versa.

Although the I134 instructions states that you do not have to provide tax returns unless self-employed.

However, Packet 4 says the following

(12)Pruebas de sostenimiento. De su prometido(a) : “Affidavit of Support” –
(Forma I-134) carta de empleo y declaraciones de renta (1040) del último año.

Always provide more, never think that the minimum is sufficient. If they would ask for only 10 photos, give them 20. wink.gif

I also qualified on income alone, no assets. This is what I provided with my I134.

I134
1) Employment letter
2) 3 months of paystubs
3) W2 & 1040 for 2004, 2005, 2006
4) Tax transcripts for 2004, 2005, 2006

Lucho,

Do we have to include rent receipts, too?

I saw that the CO asks Sam y Nydia for this.

Mike,

Thank you for clearing that up for me. I was translating "Declaraciones de Renta" literally, as "declaration of rent". So by that I was under the impression we had to show proof of either rent receipts or mortgage statements.

thanx guys,

Rafael

Visa fee to bank $100 US
Lab $150,000 pesos
Med exam $130,000 pesos
Vaccuna $100 US
DAS $29,000 peso

To answear what you did not ask for..............this whole process is SPENDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hired a lawyer, no help so far. This site has given me the correct info. The lawyer is worthless for info after the application leaves NVC. The one mistake I made was not listening to Luchco, he said ask questions, I did, but not enough. Info here is free!!
So, as of now I am into this whole thing, airfare for visits, lawyer and all other expenses about $20k. Still more to come before we get the visa and then the AOS cost.
I had posted this before. My advice is plan ahead. Airfare for me to Colombia runs about $750.00. Seven trips so far. Add on food, hotel and what not, fees for the visa and it adds up fast. This whole process is not for the faint of heart. LOL.
I do not know how people do it that barely make enough to qualify for support.

Does the price for DAS include both certificates? There is two..Certificado Judicial and Certificado Migratorio. My fiance $66 for the passport. Seem resonable enough.
