Ok im a bit lost and since im new to this. I sent my I-129F Sep 26 Received a NOA October 7th by mail. Being im in the first stages and m y fiance is in Jamaica would this apply to me or is this after we receive a NOA2. Trying to figure out where this DS-160 falls into the processing timeline

If you were in process at the embassy and scheduled before 10/07 then you are BAU.

Sureshot..just checked ceac and the status update changed to todays date. I was thinking the same thing. Will check back friday.


Maybe they scheduled you. Or you just in limbo like me. I wish I knew what it meant, maybe they have us in queue for scheduling. I am hoping they schedule me by Friday this week. Tired of the waiting game now.

I am confuse about this K1 process.I plan today to start filling out the DS230,DS260,DS156,DS156K, & DS157 while i await for NVC to shipped my case to the embassy. now there's new updates.NVC received my case october 4,so i assuming based on your post that i will only be filling out DS160,that replace all the other forms except DS157?

The communication with the Kingston is very poor. You don't even have a number to call and talk to someone live on status of your application. The email option sucks. And the CEAC site don't tell you anything specific about your case.

Just called DOS and was told the documents qualified on 4th Oct, no interview scheduled yet call back in a few she said should have one by then. Awe talk about patience and no problem. Bway that has been tested with this process. LOL.

As of 10/07 once your case is received by the embassy this is what you complete online. Replaces DS-230, DS-156,156k and 157. K1 will no longer use DS-260 either. This will only be used by NVC FOR I-130 visa applicants.

Bishop, I don't think we need to do that according to the instruction because we were mailed packet 3 before 10/07. And they already accepted our DS-230

ON 09/30 I SENT A EMAIL  TO THE EMBASSY LETTING THEM NO I COMPLETED THE DS-260 ON LINE, AND ASK CAN THEY EMAIL PACKAGE 3-4 THEY RESPONDED BACK ON 10/3 BY  EMAILING ME A FIANCE VISA CHECKLIST, WITH THE LINK TO ,FORMS 156, 156K, 157, AND THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT I HAD TO COMPLETE PART 1 OF THE DS-230 IN ORDER TO GET A INTERVIEW  DATE, BE CAUSE THE DS-260 IS UNACCEPTABLE AT THIS TIME, SO I EMAIL THE DS-230 BACK TO EMBASSY ON 10/3, AND REQUEST THAT THEY SEND PACKAGE 3-4 BY EMAIL, I HAVE NOT RECEIVED, A EMAIL BACK YET, I CALL DOS TODAY, AND THEY GAVE ME MY INTERVIEW DATE, BUT IM A LITTLE WORRIED BECAUSE THEY SAID  THE PACKAGE 3 WAS MAILED OUT ON 10/1, AND I HAVE NOT  RECIEVE IT, DOS SAY PACKAGE 4 WAS MAILED OUT 10/8, IF I HAVENT RECEIVE PACKAGE 3 YET , HOW DO I NO I WILL RECEIVE PACKAGE 4, NEED LETTER TO TAKE TO MEDICAL, ANYONE HAVE ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTION, ON HOW I CAN GET THESE PACKAGE EMAIL TO ME,




I had the same issue, called DOS in the morning because my status was updated on 10/08 but they told me no interview was scheduled. Maybe I called too early. What time did you call DOS?

Sureshot53, I would not worry. I think the wording varies slighty because of the agent responding to the email in a general mailbox.

In my lette they state IF an appointment is scheduled. But your letter states an appointment WILL be scheduled. Wonder if I should read into that as meaning anything special. Does anyone have any information on how long it took to get appointment after receiving such confirmation from embassy?

When my wife (then finance) scheduled her interview date it was made for March 1st(This was in January).  She called daily to reschedule her interview(for a k1) and eventually got one two weeks earlier in Feburary.  It doesn't hurt to call daily and try.  The least they can say is no.  It worked for us.

Hi Guys,

Here I am again, reviewing info for USCIS and...asking for help :)

Here is my story, I am from 1975 and I came to the US as an exchange visitor en 1999 (I was 24 at the time) with a J-1 Visa. I've stayed the time that I was authorized to stay, then I went back to my country. I was never aware of this Selective Service thing..

Fast forward to today, I have my 10-yr GC and I am looking for data to apply for citizenship but...it is asking for that Selective Service requirement.

my problem:

- I was NEVER aware that there was a requirement for filling that...Is this going to impact my application? Can I get my application denied because of that?
- what's the problem of that? what "reason" can be given for not registering?
- who / what / which organization am I supposed to contact?

It does not make a lot of sense, as anyone that came to the US between 19-26 and did not register (unless became illegal resident) should be in trouble (????)

any help is appreciated!!

got a noa in 3/1/12, did the fingerprints in may, got the interview notice about a month ago. and today was the interview.

so here are the details..Today was my inteview. To summarize, I spent more time waiting than in the real interview.

I went alone (my wife works) I was listening to the uscis cd in the car, got to the place, started reading the guide, just to avoid thinking.

waited about 15-30 minutes (a woman from Canada and her teenage kid were first for citizenship before me).

he called me, "how are you" he said. "I'm glad to be here, rather than outside" I said and we both laughed. We went to the officer's desk.

"let's do the test first to take it out of the way" said which I agreed.

questions:
- name a state that limits with Mexico (CA)
- why there are 13 stripes in the flag (13 colonies)
- which ocean is on the west (Pacific)
- who wrote the declaration of independence (Jefferson)
- name 3 states that were colonies (SC, NC, GA)

he asked me to write "we have fifty states" as the english test (I believe he just made that out "on the fly")

then he asked me where I work, when was the last time I left the country, we went through the same questions that are in the form already answered..and basically that's it.

I assume my case was not that complex because I did not have any outstanding issue, like time out of the country, or taxes, or DUI, or things like that. However that's not always the case..a relative recently got her citizenship application denied. I won't go into details, because it will be only my personal opinion, but I can say that he checked in my case key indicators (taxes, being out of the US, etc) and we moved on with the interview.

a person that was with me from Ecuador also got the citizenship too. So we were 4 that day that got approved. The ceremony is in a week.

Total time was about..90 minutes approx (most of that was just waiting time)

so...I received a "notice date" on 3/3/12 and..that's it. USCIS's site says "We try to schedule biometric appointments as quickly as possible and in most cases you will receive your appointment notice within 30 days of submitting your application. We will send your appointment notice approximately 14 days ahead of your scheduled appointment. It is important that you keep this appointment."

it looks to me that I was supposed to get the biometrics appointment already, (last week or the beginning of this one).. Is any of you in the same situation?

Ok, I called and went to the congressman's office today as well. I walked out with a feeling that they not gonna help that much. the guy didn't ask anything about my case, and soon as he heard it's under administrative review/processing, he said there is not really much we can do, but I will try to reach out to them. he said he had encountered couple of cases like that, and I asked him how did it go. He said the only case he dealt with, it took the person 2,3 months to get cleared out. I don't feel that he will try hard for my case.
Turboguy, please keep me updated with your process, I would love to know how your congressman were able to offer.

Yes, I went there Friday. I was very pleased with the meeting. He asked me every question you could imagine and then said he could not understand any reason it should be in A/R. He said he could not promise anything except that he would work very hard to get as much information as he could and to work hard to try his best to get it out of A/R and moving.

alright, updates from me, they told me that It is now going through Administrative processing , I asked them that last time I was told it's under administrative review. she replied:" it is the same thing" ......... she said it's out our nvc's control and she doesn't even know which agency is involved in this. 55555555555555555 damn

Turboguy, we should contact congressman ASAP. someone from past experience have told me that it can be helpful to a extent that we can find out where the case is. NVC will have no idea now and it's FBI who are checking on all these things. the congressman can get response to FBI, although it will not speed up the AR process, but it will make sure that the case is not lost and make sure that someone will be working on it. I am going to pay a personal visit to the congressman office next week. it shouldn't hurt us to do so, so let's proceed with that and wait for the luck.



NY Girl, an administrative review as near as I can tell is when something signals them that they need to look at an application closer. It may be the name is the same as someone who has created a problem or something to do with a prior problem such as wanting to check on a previous visa. I don't think anyone knows all the answers. It seems like it can come at any stage, whenever they find somethng that they think might be a red flag. Mine & Bins came at NVC. Omoba's came after the interview.

After you get your NOA-2 the regional center sends it to NVC. There it is assigned a case number based on the Embassy you will be using and the date it was processed. They then forward all the files for each embassy directly to the Embassy. The Embassy then of course arranges the interviews.

Sorry but after consulting with a few immigration lawyers, I found that the congressman can't influence the administrative processing much at all since it's an out of country issue. Pretty much the consulate has the final say and they seem to take however long they want to with AP process.

Sadly enough, there's no real way that you can speed up AP process especially with CP (AOS is different but I think that it can be more influenced). Found that out the hard way.


Is that also true is the application has never left the country. I can see if the ap is at the foreign embassy but in my case and Bins case we were early in the procedure and ours went from the regional center where it was approved to NVC where they put it in A/R and sent it to Washington? Just curious if you have any thoughts.


That is correct. If your A/P moves to the NVC within the States, then the congressman approach may help although this isn't too surefire. The toughest thing is trying to track down where the application is. For example, the diversity lottery case I'm working with is at the embassy itself so no US legal method can be useful here. It's a wait and see. However, if it got sent to Washington then it would be a better shot.

Of course, the worst thing is when you call up and get a 222(F) which is bad! They can be rather private on a ton of things! :(

As part of the aftermath of the events of September 11, 2001, there are additional security check requirements for visa applicants. While it is not possible to predict when the clearances for this case will be finished by all involved Washington agencies, please be assured that as soon as the results are received, the case file will be forwarded to the appropriate US Embassy or Consulate General.

If we are not out of A/R in the next month I am moving there myself. I can't say I have much desire to live in the middle of Sibera but I also don't feel like being away from her either. I can live there and come back once a month for a week or 10 days to renew my visa and run my business. The whole A/R thing is stupid. Neither one of us has anything they should need to review and I am sure you don't either.

that's sure ture , you can't really plan on anything since you don't when it's coming. I am going back to China and live with her if it's not approved within half year. we will have kids there and everything, then I hope they will believe it's not a fraud or anything that they are investigating. hopefully, I am preparing for the worst of the worst, but aren't nobody breaking up this relationship..... keep going guys, hope we will be out soon...... I wish the NVC people read the posting here sometimes and understanding the suffering souls in this forum..

I have to say it really is a bad situation to be in. It is sort of a feeling like being in a hospital with two broken legs and two broken arms. All you can do is lay there and wait. You have no idea if it will be next week, next month, next year or next decade. Even if they said we are going to have you in A/R for two years then I would think about moving where she is so we could be together. I hope that we all get good news soon.
