Africa: Sub-SaharanSharing some red flags

From your response here I can almost conclude you are one of JWs like myself. If that is correct I have suggestions for others to avoid this kind of situation. There are several ways of getting things done properly here in Nigeria. You can actually find out if the person you are contemplating to marry is real or a mere pretender. We belong to congregation and we know that elders can sometimes be involved in things like these. They can verify so many things for us. I am sure you understand what i am trying to say, provided you are a JW.

hello Ayodeb!

My hubby is indeed a JW, confirmed and verified way before I decided to go to Nigeria. My hubby was a Ministerial Servant and gave the Sunday discourse the week i was there at the KH. I think the bigger issue is internet dating is a huge risk. This just goes to show you no matter what religion you profess to be, there are people who may be living a double life. His family is filled with very spiritual people. His parents are full time pioneers and he and his sister both attended pioneer school together. The bible warns us to watch our association both out and in of the congregation. My elders also got his records from the branch office. Oh is is as real a JW as I am. Society has warned us to stay away from internet dating. unfortunately i thought i could beat the odds without consequences.

Thanks for the post

All I can say is wow. This wow is not judgmental, nor is it hasty. It is a wow of disbelief, wonder, and admiration all rolled into one. God bless you and your family. I mean that from the bottom(and the top,and sides) of my heart.

Thanks for posting! I hear you.... I really do! Preciate the blessings!

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)221g administrative process

I hope so, thanks for your support.... good luck to you :)

Yes, you will hear good news by tomorrow or early next week.  I and my husband are also waiting, we are on "AP" too.  The CO was confused or had a hung over, bec the questions she asked my husband to answer thru letter are wrong.  She was asking my husband why he did not comeback to visit me in 1 and a half year.  My husband visited me 5 times in 2013, only this year 2014 bec we did not want to spend money again as we are waiting for my visa.  And also asked why did he marry me the first time he visited me. Another question, Why did my husband put single on his 2013 tax.  My husband amended it and sent it to the embassy. And the rest proofs of our relationship (which I already submitted to them on the day of my interview)  but anyway I added more and also asked for a few civil docs (sent to the embassy).

Our case was updated 4 times.  The last time is today June 26.  I and my husband are really having hard time being apart.  We have not seen each other for nearly 6 months.  And I have been crying a lot, what makes us both stronger and hopeful now is to pray to god.  We are hoping for the good news next week.   Well,  we will pray for everyone here who are having tough time waiting for visa.

Congrats!

Thanks much! And thank you and the others on this board that gave me excellent advice and council. One thing I will say, never count out talking to your senator(s) if needed. Her interview is January 29. Awesome. Thanks again for your help.

The P4 email finally came.  I sent in a last hail mary email on their website basically begging for a response, and today the P4 email came.  I am inclined to think that our application fell on the floor behind someones desk, and that my email finally made them look for it.....or it could a be coincidence.  Either way, we are no longer blocked.

Just curious, but did your P3 request only ask for the DS-230, copy of personal page of passport and two passport photos?  We went over the letter she received and see that is all they asked for.

Wow, awesome news man. Good on ya! Hope it goes quickly for you from here on out.

In our case a confirmation page of DS-160 e-fill was listed to be mailed with P3 docs to consulate. If you are past that point I'd do it right away.
During these past 3 months, did you have any updates on ceac? Maybe some sort of AP is going on? Did you speak to DOS?
If there are no updates and you can't get any responses I would personally try to assemble another P3 packet including DS-160 confirmation page this time and the rest of required items, perhaps that could trigger something. I don't think there would be any reprecussions for sending additional documents.

We got a confirmation on October 22 that they received our documents after we submitted a question on the web site. After that, nothing. I just submitted a request for status last night. The letter she received did mentioned completing a DS-160 after she was notified, so we didn't do it right away.

The DS-160 says she must fill it out. Can I do that for her and have her sign it when I am done? I really believe my lawyer has been lax in helping us.

Do you have a copy of your DS-160? Double check the email address for typos. I had both of our emails put in and P4 arrived to both. Just a thought.

When is the DS-160 supposed to be submitted? I thought that was done after receipt of the email from the embassy? Can I go ahead and do that?

Sorry to ask and don't mean to hijack conquestdz's thread, but I am in the same boat. Our time line is almost exactly the same as hthunter's - packet 3 docs sent and signed for/received by the embassy on October 7, 2013. No email as of yet - nothing. So we are three months out and nothing? Will this step fix that? We are scratching our heads because her friend has already gotten her interview middle of November. I don't know who to contact on this and my lawyer is not helping me at all. Any help would be appreciated.

The resume example listed above is a real easy fill. My fiancée is a teacher, so her's will be very easy to do. Better to have it than not.

ChinaResume Needed?
I wouldn't think accounting would qualify. I would think they are looking for engineering, sciences, bio/medical type degrees. I believe they are looking for someone who could be the next Rihab Taha or the like or someone who would posses that type of knowledge. Not trying to be over dramatic, just using that as an example.

ChinaShanghai medical check pre-interview - sithc
We have scheduled my fiancée's interview for January 29 and need to do the medical check. I know she will require shots, so we want to get this done early. Has anyone here used the medical clinic in Shanghai? Do they require a reservation or can she just walk in with her interview notice/confirmation? Any help or information would be gladly appreciated.

ChinaWhat to do with government retirement savings in China?

Also, my wife says the Chinese retirement age is 60, not 50, at least for her.

My fiancée says the same. She says you either have to request the money back from the government or get a local business to help you in which they are on the hook if uncle Miao comes looking for a head count and your spouse isn't there.

ChinaWhat to do with government retirement savings in China?
But isn't the company she uses in China to help her a) required to keep her on a work contract and b) also required to make a contribution to her account on her behalf in order to satisfy Chinese law?

ChinaQuestion for scheduling interview

Chinese New year...  Maybe you should check the dates the embassy will be open as they close during Chinese and American holidays.  I know the holiday is actually 3 days long, just not sure how the emabassy handles it as others take LONG vacations.

Yes, it's all consolidated to the online form now. DS-160 done on line and you send the printed confirmation page. Also make sure she prints an extra copy for her interview. Congrats!

I got you Darnell, will do. After she passes her interview, I'll snag the tickets. Her CITIC drop off point for her passport package in Shanghai is two blocks away from her apartment. Can't get much better than that.

ChinaAverage Passport return time
Since my fiancée's interview is Jan 29 and we need to start looking at buying plane tickets, what is a reasonable timeframe to expect pickup of her passport and package to CITIC? Would getting tickets for mid March be too soon? What should we expect?

Thanks - roxer

roxerMaleChina2014-01-24 06:22:00
Chinap3 mailed!
Question 1: I would pick the closest CITIC location to her. This is where she will pick up her passport package after she passes her interview. Just my two cents.

Question 2: Get the account and pay the fee. P4 comes as an email. Is sped it up for me, but no guarantees.

Hope it works for you too.

ChinaSaying hello and requesting info on Chinese Notarized birth certificate

She will need to go with the family book asn Ryan H stated to your home of record (where you are currently registered) and request it there.  I beleive that is the process.  My finacce lives in Shanghai, but is registered in An Hui.  She had to go to JingDe City there to get here birth certificate.  Make sure your sister gets multiple copies so you don't have to do this again in the future.  We call them White Books and they will have both Chinese and English translations with the local government raised seal.

ChinaK1 or CR1 benefits
Thanks much. That was the type of information I was looking for. I guess a marriage in China just eliminates the certification of the US marriage license for future usage purposes.

I guess I was curious if marrying a Chinese National in land would give any benefits like visa privileges for the foreign spouse. Chinese visas are very restrictive time wise.

Are there any benefits to marry inside of China verses doing the fiancée visa and marrying in the US? Are there privileges that come with marrying in China? Just curious..

ChinaEntering the US

I leave to bring my finacee back in a couple of weeks.  When we return, do we go through the regular US line?  She will give the package to the imigration office in the line we go to, right? And last, she will input her finger prints there for the first time.  Is that correct?

roxerMaleChina2014-02-21 10:55:00
ChinaOriginal birth certificate versus notarized birth certificate
Your notarial booklet is your birth record... Not sure why they would think you need anything else? My fiancée got three and we will use only one. The others will be stored for later use just in case... My lawyer never asked for anything other.

ChinaGathering documents for Chinese K-1

Just my two cents, but you may want to wait on the police check until you get to the P3/P4 stage.  I think it has to be current (within 6 months) when you get here as it is part of the package that comes with her.

Do lots of texting and keep the logs - free. We used IMO on our iphone/ipads/PCs that allowed me to download the logs into text documents. Keep the logs as you both need to submit evidence.  You will do it to start the process and she will do it for the interview. We had over three years of text (over 7000 pages compressed).  smile.png

Skype and Face Time - free.  Spend some time on the calls.  Download the logs to use as communications for her interview.

Pics with her family is good and in many different places.
