K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLawyer VS Visa Journey

Almost everyone on VJ have done it by themselves without a lawyer. Thats what VJ is FOR its a self help website.

Do not use a lawyer if you have no red flags. Do it by yourself and save your money and your application. There are many horror storys of people who thought using a lawyer would be great and easy but it turned into a nightmare that they are still trying to resolve and lost a lot of money.

we just had a nice long thread on this subject.. We just finished medical and lack only interview. if I had to do it over I would not use a lawyer. Big waster of money unless you have problems..

Check out this thread

http://www.visajourn...u-use-a-lawyer/

Lawyer 0 x 1 Visa Journey.

We did by ourselves the whole process so far and we're 5 days away from going to U.S together, with my visa in hand, ready to start our life as a married couple. I wouldn't spend money just to have somebody to fill out the forms and send them to USCIS. Good luck.

You do not need a lawyer if your case is pretty straight forward. Follow the guides on VJ meticulosly and you will be fine.
If you are a busy person and have the cash then you can consult a lawyer but why not keep the money for AOS down the road?

Visa Journey is the best hands down!!!

There are a lot of people here with the knowledge and actual experience that lawyers just do not have, people on here actually care, where as all a lawyer cares about is getting your money.

If you have ANY questions, you can ask it and people will answer OR more than likely, you can search for the answer to any questions you have because I guarantee about 10 other people will have asked it and there will be a stock of answers for you.

Like people have said though, if your case isn't straight forward then legal advise/help is advisable - but if you follow the guides on here properly then you do not need a lawyer!!!!

+1 to each!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestions About K2
This is the verbage from the embassy website:

"All children (under 21 years old and unmarried) of an alien classified K1 should be listed on I-129F Petition for Alien Fiance(e). Children also must be present at the interview. The child of a K1 principal alien may acquire K2 status even after the principal alien has married American Citizen Petitioner and acquired lawful permanent resident status in U. S. A marriage certificate of the principal alien along with the rest of the required documentation must be provided for the child's visa interview in this case. The cut-off date for issuance of a K2 visa is 1 year from the date of the K1 visa issuance to the principal alien."

http://moscow.usemba...ov/k2visas.html

He is listed on the I-129

Now, he is 15. Right now he lives in Volgograd which is a little ways from Moscow. His grandmother will be staying with him while Ira is here...but it is a little problematic to have him (or expect her at 72 to take him to Moscow for an interview) to travel to Moscow for an interview. After talking with the people at USTRAVELDOCS is seems that the consulate can determine the dates that the visa is valid for...but this is a call on their part. It seems to me to be an easily granted request to ask that his visa be made valid for entry after January.

Any thoughts?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestions About K2
I do not quite fully understand how the process works with the issuance of the K2 visa, especially as it relates to our particular situation.

Ira does not want to pull her son out of school in the middle of the year, he is going to a school that specializes in mathematics and physics and this year many of his classes reach their culmination. So, the plan is to leave him in school until is final exams in the middle of June. That is first.

We are at the point where we are ready to schedule our interview. Ideally, we would like to schedule the interview for the week of November 21st as he has vacation and would not need to miss any school for the week they will need in Moscow for the medical exam and interview. Also ideally we would like his visa to be issued by February so that in the case of an emergency he could travel to the US while we are adjusting status here.

This is what I know:

He must be applied for on the I-129f,
He must get the medical exam,
He must attend the interview with his mother,
The K2 visa can be issued up to a year after the K1,
The K2 once issued is valid for 6 months,

Our intention at this point is to have him travel to the US immediately after his exams June 15th...

What I do not know is how exactly the K2 issuance in the case that he follows us works... any help and clarification would be gratly appreciated.

Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTo be or NOT be at the K-1 Visa Interview

(It was in the subheading of her thread's title.) Apology accepted, but this shines a light on one of the most overlooked points in the immigration process: So much of everything is consulate-specific. London is not Manila, Manila is not Santo Domingo, Santa Domingo is not Guayaquil, and Guayaquil is not Lagos.

The patterns of treatment of USCs at the Guayaquil consulate have continued rather consistently for years. "Ed Hall" above has nailed it, and Jim just above is correct that consular employees should not be believed when it comes to official or unspoken policy.

If I remember, I had a lengthy PM session with the OP some time ago on exactly what to expect and do.

Anyone who wants to shudder at the practices at Guayaquil need to visit the Embassy/Consulate forum and read the thread "US Consulate in Guayaquil, Ecuador" in full, paying attention to the worst of the stories.

This is good advice...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMoscow Consular VISA filing fee

$350 USD

Exchange rate varies daily. It will be the Ruble equivilent of $350 USD using the exchange on that day.

The new system has you go to the website where the exchange rate is set. Even though the rate varies daily, the website does not keep up. Rather than complain, we just paid the difference. It is set at 33 rubles to the dollar.
