Middle East and North AfricaPolice record in France Help
As long as he was never arrested or had any run-ins with the police, his record should be clear, and his illegal status shouldn't affect the police report. Others here have had the same issue (illegal overstay in EU country), and things have worked out. Hope it works out for you!

Middle East and North AfricaLET'S TALK ABOUT YOUR RED FLAGS
I didn't have any of the reg flags mentioned. He's a few years older than me, neither one of us had been married before, we met in person and had a 5 year relationship and lived in the same city for 1 of those years. The only thing I can think of that might have caused a raised eyebrow is that I didn't visit Algeria prior to our marriage. Oh, and I'm Christian, and he's Muslim, so I thought that maybe that could be considered a "red flag."

I wasn't taking any chances when preparing our application, and I prepared for any questions that the CO might have re: the validity of our relationship. I included a letter detailing our relationship, with a list of the people who had seen us together. I also encluded a TON of photos throughout our 5 years together. The receipt for my engagement ring, print outs of e-mails, phone calls, etc. I also included an affidavit from my mother, who was there the day he proposed, and who knew him very well at that point. We had sent each other lots of postcards and letters over the years, so I sent all of those to him for the interview, as well as a scrapbook I had made him. I sent photos of us with all of my family members and friends who had met him over the years. Amed brought all of this with him to the interview.

In the end, it didn't really matter, as the CO only looked at a couple of photos and didn't ask any questions. I know we got really lucky, but I like to think that our application was very thorough. I can't imagine what some of you are going through, or have gone through, just to get your SO here. I'm glad that the CO's address red flags, as it does help to lessen visa fraud, but I wish they would all do it in such a way as to let the petitioners respond appropriately, instead of just automatically sending the petitions back to the U.S. You can't help who you fall in love with, red flags or no red flags, so those people who do have issues should at least get the chance to address them before their petition is flat-out denied.

Middle East and North AfricaVisa denied in Algeria
I'm sorry to hear you are going through this right now. Please get the papeer as soon as possible so you can know exactly what is going on. If it is indeed a denial, please look at the pinned topic in this forum concerning returned petitions. Time will be of the essence.

Algeria isn't usually considered a high-fraud embassy, so it was surprising to me that your husband said he was denied outright. It is possible that they have started to clamp down lately. It's important to think of any red flags you may have had to have caused the consulate to deny the visa, and see if there is any way you can address their concerns. One item in your profile that stuck out to me is that you only met your husband once in person, and you married right away. This could be seen in a negative light by the consulate, and you may need to take another trip to Algeria soon to visit your husband so you can have further evidence of your relationship.

Good luck!

Nawal, I have to interrupt to say your babies are adorable! I love the pictures!

Jenn, congratulations on Adam! He is a beautiful boy!

Ok, back to topic....

I've seen conspiracy theories against both sides. My husband is actually in Algeria right now, and he says it's crazy. It's ridiculous that all of this violence gets attached to a soccer match, of all things. Something that is supposed to be fun gets turned into an excuse to start riots and go crazy...When I heard the match was going to be in the Sudan, I was worried that there would be even more problems. Surely their soldiers and police have enough going on on a daily basis with their own citizens; throw in thousands of unruly soccer fans, and it's a disaster waiting to happen. I hope things settle down soon.
MHandMBFemaleAlgeria2009-11-19 20:55:00
Middle East and North AfricaAlgerian victory
Well, it's a huge and messy rivalry. The Algerian team's bus was attacked in Cairo on the way to the team's hotel. Several players were injured. Many say the game should have been postponed, but it wasn't. The Algerian team was ahead in points, so if they won the match or lost by only one point, they would be headed to the World Cup. The Algerian team lost by 2, which meant a re-match was necessary. They went to the rematch in neutral Sudan, and won the match. There were many riots and retaliation attacks in Egypt and Algeria over the past few days. Obviously not appropriate behavior on either side, and it's really a pity so many people were hurt over a soccer match. However, the Algerians won and questioning the victory of the match itself at this point sounds like a bit of sour grapes.

Middle East and North AfricaHave your husbands friends married American?
love may very well be blind. but when you think of all the other things in this world you could be blinded by( everthing from hate to your little brothers BB gun) i think love is the most worthwhile. and sarah is right, you can never know for a fact what a man's intentions might be, that goes for men everywhere, but isn't that where trust comes in? i'm the type that trusts until i have a reason not to, my best friend doesn't trust until she feels it's been earned. there's nothing to say who's right and who's wrong. i'm afraid of missing out on something wonderful by not trusting and she's afraid of getting hurt by trusting. it's the classical is the glass half full or half empty thing. am i getting too far off track here? if i am, humor me. it's 1 am and i'm in the middle of a 12 hour shift! oh, and chas, what do they say about opinions? LOL
driss&allieFemaleMorocco2007-04-14 23:52:00
Middle East and North AfricaHave your husbands friends married American?
i think what this is all boiling down to is this: if a lot of the SO's friends are meeting and marrying american's, should we be concerned that our SO has unlterior motives in the relationship? i'm sure we've all heard the green card line. but if we truly believed it, we wouldn't be here on VJ. it's a question that each person has to answer for themselves about their SO. does it concern me that my fiance has friends that have come here on a fiance visa? does it concern me that he has friends that are amidst online relationships with american women? for me, the answer is no, it doesn't. i know my fiance and i know his heart and i love him for it. when everything is said and done, chances are, those friends are not going to be around when everyday life in the marriage settles in. so who cares if two people meet because one of them was following the crowd? it's what happens after the meeting that counts. could it be that i'm a hopeless romantic?

Middle East and North Africaitty bitty baby steps in the returned petition process

Looks like your timeline is about 2 months ahead of ours with the return, you dont think California will just cancel it? and hearing it takes about 6 months to get the paper before we can refile.

i know there is a possibility that they could deny it but i refuse to dwell on it. when i found out that our petition had been returned, i knew we weren't going to be one of the lucky couples. our journey was going to be long and frustrating. i just keep in mind that it can't last forever and one day, driss and i will be together. if a denial is in our future, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it, but like you and yours, casa has not seen the last of driss and allie! keep us in the know about your baby steps, too. lots of luck! :)

i learned this morning that our returned petition was recieved at the NVC on friday and was sent off to the California Service Center yesterday. i know it's not much but it just feels better knowing SOMETHING! it made me smile. that and the fact that the rep i talked to sounded exactly like Roz from Monsters, Inc. i could almost see her horned rimmed glasses and the under-the-nose lipstick, lol. so i guess i can start looking for the NOID/NOIR now, right? start fighting this thing with everything i've got. oh, and thanks to all of you for the help and encouragement! :)

Middle East and North AfricaWednesday - hump day

i want as many as we could have, unfortunatly, i had a tubal before we met. but my Driss has complete faith that we will have the little girl we always dream about. i love this man! (L)

I'm having my tubal ligation reversed! You might want to look into it. http://www.tubal-reversal.net/

We're thinking (highly considering) adoption. I was so ill when I was pregnant with my daughter, and was a high risk pregnancy. I am VERY lucky my daughter is healthy and has no problems related to my pregnancy. So no more pregnancies for me. Even though we would like to have another child, Khallid says my children make him happy if that's all the children God wants to give him. :luv: Such a sweet man!

That's so wonderful that you and your daughter made it though a rough pregnancy! Driss said that even if we didn't have any, he would be happy with just my son but i want at least one more. We've already picked out names. How's that for blind faith? lol

It's my firm belief that every new bride should recieve a cast iron frying pan as a gift and know that it's not just for frying chicken! Now, i'm not promoting violence in the home by any means but i think the first time a woman beating moron comes to after having his clock cleaned, he'll think twice about hitting a woman again. It's up to those of us who have sons to teach them at a very early age to have respect for women and to those who have daughters to accept nothing less than that. If you were to ask my 5 year old how are you supposed to treat a girl, he will tell you without hesitation that you treat girls like princesses.

I sooooo agree with you. Every see Madea's family reunion? Grit Ball???  Now there is a lesson in how to handle an abusive spouse. I'm always sad to hear relationships end, and even more so when they end because of this. I hope Jean can be strong enough to make the right choices and not feel guilty.

Yes Charles, it was the combination of you saying it and Noura's hormones that sparked that outburst. I'm sure she'll be find after some caffeine.

We had a wild weekend. Found out on friday that we have have to move 3 households in 60 days. Spent the weekend house hunting. Think we found something that will work for everyone. Noe to sort, clean and sell 50 years worth of stuff at my grandma's and help with 30 years worth at my parents.. :help: Anyone got ativan they can spare?

all of Madea's movies/plays are so hilarious! the songs in the plays are a little long but well worth sitting though!

Middle East and North AfricaAlmost Friday... but still Thursday
I can't wait till Friday! This week has been a pain. My co-worker is now on maternity leave, so everything is falling on my shoulders. I am working for three attorneys, and handling all of the bills and office management stuff. The new girl has been late almost every day, so I end up having to grab the phones for her, too. Plus, Amed doesn't have his license and he keeps getting off of work early (even though the schedule for the week has him leaving at 5:30 every day), so I have to go pick him up, take him home (a 20 minute drive), and come back to work(another 20 minutes).

It's not his fault, and I know it's a pain for him, too, but it's getting to be really inconvenient, especially since I need to be here. We're hoping his greencard will come in the mail next week so we can go get his license then. I know he wants the independence, and it'll probably make him feel a lot better. Then, we'll have to see about getting another vehicle.

Any good news to share today? Any interviews scheduled or visas approved? I hope we get some approvals coming soon!

Hope everyone has a good day.

Ok, thank you for the enlightenment, as always! I knew it was always tricky to find the exact start date, but this is worse than I imagined.

Can I ask a question? This will only be my second Ramadan with Amed, and the only other time, we were in Paris, so the timing may be different. Does the traditional prayer service usually start right before sundown each night? Does it correspond with one of the prayer times on the islamic prayer calendar, or is it separate?

Middle East and North AfricaSSSSSSSSSSSSSSssaturday
Today, Amed and I went out for a little tour down the river on my parents' boat. It was really nice. Now we're getting showered and dressed to meet some of my friends who are visiting from Atlanta. We're going to a reggae concert at the park. Then, we are going to hang out at a bar or restaurant out at the beach, and then we'll stay at my boss' condo out there which just happens to be free this weekend, and just happens to be right next door to the hotel where my out of town friends are staying. So all in all, a good day!

Kelly, I filed the FAFSA online a few months ago (thinking of going to grad school). It was a lot simpler this time around since you can do it all online, and it only took me about 20 minutes. It might not be as bad as you think.

Hope everyone is doing well today!!! Have a fun weekend!
