Why don't you just keep your timeline and put a notation that you've abandoned the process? Hope you'll still check in with us from time to time!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUSCIS Knows Nothing....Not even the USCIS Director's Name!
Is there anyone we can complain to about the 1-800 number? Seriously, it's a waste of time and money. They could probably do away with the number altogether and with the money they save, hire a few more people at each agency and it would work wonders.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFINALLY GOT RFE, I AM SO MAD
Hey,

Sorry to hear about the RFE. I know it must be a pain for you.

It seems like they're focusing a lot on the 2-year thing. You said you've been with your fiance since 2001. Were most of the pictures you sent with your original packet dated before 2004? Maybe the stamps in the passport they looked at were prior to 2004 as well. Even if you included more recent photos and passport stamps, itineraries, etc., maybe the CO just glanced at the file, saw several pieces of proof that were dated prior to the 2-year mark, and issued the RFE without looking at your whole file and seeing that you had evidence of a more recent meeting.

I would send several dated photos, ticket stubs, photocopies of the stamps in your passport, etc., dated from 2004 and later with this RFE, in addition to some kind of letter outlining the recent visits, and maybe a letter from a friend or family member who went with you (if applicable) noting the dates of the trip, and I would not bother sending in anything dated earlier than 2004, so as not to confuse the officers (which seems to be easy to do).

Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPut my mind at ease please?
I concur with what everyone else has been saying. According to everything I've read, if you are of legal age to marry in the jurisdiction in which you live, and he is of legal age to marry in the jurisdiction in which he lives, and he's of legal age in the jurisdiction in which you live and plan to marry, then you're good to go. Why would it matter if he's a non-US citizen or not? If he were American, he could go down to any courthouse in the US and get a marriage license. So, because he's not American, he has a different age requirement? That sounds very fishy to me. If that's the case, a lot of other petitioners on here would be turned down. There are lots of couples on VJ where there's a non-USC who is 20 or under.

Good luck on getting this straightened out!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPutting a hold on K-1 Process
I had to ask the Consulate to delay my K1 interview because I was contractually bound to my employer until March 06. I went through London and just sent a letter with all my documents asking them to schedule an interview after ### date for the following reasons....blahblah. They granted my request with no difficulties. Good luck.

I know everyone on here is trying to get the process sped up so the few of us who ask for delays seem like freaks :P I wish I could be with my fiance now but unfortunately I'm stuck here for another month. I have had my visa since October and it breaks my heart not to be able to use it :(

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 versus I-130
Do you have an estimated wait time or processing time this might be regarding the I-130 and I-485 process? Is this a longer wait time than going through the I-129F visa process? Of course my fiance is worried there will be a long period of time before she is able to travel and see her kids. Thanks for any advice

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 versus I-130
Thanks for your advice. On my fiance's next "visit" we will have the option to get married, based on the information we have received regarding the I-130 versus the I-129F process. We want to avoid the I-129F process if possible since this is much more complicated and expensive but would like to have more information to make sure we are making the best decisions. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 versus I-130
Hi, we recently were advised that it may be best to file I-130 versus the K-1 I29F.
Any advice and help is appreciated. My Mexican fiance has a tourist visa and has traveled to and from the USA with this visa a few times to see me. We had intended to go through the I-129F process but were recently advised the I-130 might be a better option for us.
It was suggested that while she is here visiting me in the USA that we get married and then file I-130 versus going through the I-129F process. She has 2 children ages 7 and 11 that we also want to bring here at a later date. We will have a notarized letter from the father of the children giving permission for the kids to live in the USA permanently and to allow them to travel back and forth.
My fiance would like to travel to and from Mexico to visit her children occasionally during this process, will there be restrictions or issues with this and time frames that she will not be able to travel? Her kids also hold tourist visas and we would like to bring them here as soon as possible. However, we would like my fiance to be approved to be able to work in the USA so we are able to get additional income to be able to afford a bigger house before her kids arrive. Her 2 children will be living with my fiance's parents in Mexico until we are able to bring them here, so they are fine, but we want them here as soon as possible. Thanks for any advice.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPermission letter from Father
Thanks everybody for the excellent information and your time, it has been VERY helpful.

We do have another more detailed question regarding this permission letter please. Is anyone aware of the procedure to get this document notarized in Mexico? Is it best to have lawyer type this and notarized as recommended by previous response, or is she able to type this herself and have it notarized somewhere. I am hoping someone with previous experience obtaining a permission letter and getting it notarized in Mexico is familiar with this. Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPermission letter from Father
Hi, we are about to start the K-1 Visa process but our main concern is getting the letter from the father allowing permission for her 2 children to permanently reside in the USA. The children are ages 7 and 11 and the father has agreed to sign allowing them to permanently reside in the USA. My fiance wants to get this letter signed by him as soon as possible before he changes his mind. My question is what is the best wording for this letter, who has to "witness" it and does it need to be notarized or signed by a lawyer? She lives in Monterrey Mexico and since this is our main concern regarding the children and their permission we are hoping for answers before we take the next step to begin the K-1 visa process. Also, at what point in this process will it need to be shown or submitted. Thanks!

Middle East and North AfricaInterview News!!!!
Congratulations!!! I'm glad to hear that things seem to be going smoothly for you.

As far as your fiance visiting his family, if there is any chance they might take his passport from him (along with his visa, which will be inside the passport), then I wouldn't risk it. It would be horrible if, after all of t he waiting for the visa, he loses it right before he comes to the U.S.

Once he gets here and you get married and fill out all of your AOS papers, he can get Advance Parole and go visit his family after just 2 or 3 months. I know it would be so much less expensive to have him travel from Spain to Algeria, and from Algeria to the US than to take a round trip to Algeria later on, but the risk is still there that they could take his papers.

Just FYI, my husband is familiar with the problems of the Algerian gov't confiscating passports, but he thinks that if you rub elbows with the right people, they won't mess with you.

I guess you just need to decide if the benefit outweighs the risk. Good luck and keep us posted!

Middle East and North AfricaIt's Friday!!!
Lei's aren't difficult to make. I went to a Lei making workshop when we were in Hawaii. Surely any decent florist would be able to make one for you.

If not, I would recommend ordering online. I ordered all of my wedding flowers online with overnight delivery, and they turned out amazing! Normally, cut flowers are packaged with a cooling pack to keep them fresh.

Here's another site you might want to check out:

Good luck, and congratulations!

Middle East and North AfricaPoll - When you met your SO
I met Amed when I was vacationing in Europe. My mom and aunt and I parted ways in England, and I hopped over to Paris by myself. I was wandering around the Eiffel Tower, popped into a store to get out of the rain, and was approached by this attractive guy asking if he could help me. We chit-chatted for a few minutes, I paid for my stuff and responded to his questions in French, and he was surpised. He asked if I'd like to come back by and go for a coffee after he got off of work, but I was wary and declined. When I was walking back to the Metro, I thought "here i am, by myself, in the most romantic city in the world. Why not?" So I went back by, pretended to be looking at the exchange rates in the window, and he came out and started talking to me again. He invited me to go with him to tour Versailles the next day (which is where I had planned to go anyway). I met up with him at the train station in Versailles, and we spent the rest of my trip together. He even met me in Nice for a couple of days. When I came back to the U.S., we kept in touch. I went back to Paris 4 times after that to see him. The 4th time, I stayed for a year. That last trip back to the States was the hardest trip I've ever had to make.

And he will be here next week and we'll finally stop having to say goodbye!!!!!!!!

Middle East and North AfricaTourist Visa Approved!
Wow, I'm really excited for you guys. I know it will mean a lot for his mom to be at the wedding. I wish we could have had some of Amed's family at our wedding. It's nice to know that sometimes, tourist visas *are* granted.

Congratulations!

Middle East and North AfricaI am needing some good advice before I go to Morocco
Wow, I hate to hear that you're going through this! Please don't think the worst. I've known several women who have had pre-cancerous cells and it's turned out just to be something the doctors want to continue to monitor.

Maybe you could leave the cancerous cell part out of your conversation to your in-laws? Just until you know exactly what is going on. There's no need for them to worry unnecessarily, because when you get back and actually talk to your doctor, you may find out that it's not serious.

I hope everything goes well and you hear good news! Meanwhile, enjoy your trip to Morocco!

Middle East and North AfricaHappy Hump Day
Hey everyone. Hope everyone is having a good hump day!

Mine is ok, except the roofers who are re-roofing our condo complex had an "accident" yesterday and busted through our ceiling. They are supposed to come out this weekend and fix it. Until then, there is a plywood board nailed to the ceiling to keep the rain out. Luckily, it's nice and sunny right now.

Together4ever, I feel your pain. My work has become completely void of any pleasantness. I used to like coming to work, seeing my coworkers, and doing my job. Now, I dread getting up in the morning. The boss is getting more strict while spending less time at the office, and our pay rate and vacation time stays the same (which is basically peanuts). I am looking for another job now, but I HATE the job hunting process. I *really* want to move to NYC, and Amed is on board, but I'm afraid of not finding a good job. Anyone ever relocated to NYC?

Other than that, things are good. Just ready to get out of here! Is it Friday yet? ;)

Middle East and North AfricaIt's Monday!

I knew that! Esp in my line of work ;) Can I chalk it up to Monday? Usually I can blame my laptop keyboard, but I am not using to this morning :crying:

You're wayyyyy ahead of me if your laptop has the accent grave and accent egu. (Not to mention that little rooftop thingie......)

you mean the circonflexe?

Hope the weird work issue is figured out soon!

How was everyone's weekend? My parents went out of town to visit my sister, so Amed and I decided to house and dog sit for them. We kind of lazed around the house, watching tv, and then went out to do a bit of shopping. I promise you, my husband likes to shop more than most women I know! He loves the thought of getting a deal. He never buys anything full price!

Then, on Sunday, there was a huge storm out here, and the power was out for 8 hours. Fun, fun! We took the opportunity to take a long afternoon nap. It was actually really nice!

Hope everyone is having a good Monday!

I am SO sorry to hear about what you're going through. It seriously made me cry when I read your post stating that you will fight for him. I can't imagine what you're feeling right now. Please know that even though we can't physically go into the consulate in Casa and bitchslap the officer for you and grab the file and stamp "approved" on it, we are all here to listen and offer support when you need it.

Good luck, and try to stay positive. Think of how sweet it will be when you finally can be together without obstacles and how much stronger your relationship will be because of everything you've already gone through.

It's sunny and warm here today. I have total spring fever! This is the first weekend in a while where Amed and I have no real plans. Yay! I just want to veg out, maybe go for a boat ride, and grill out. I miss the days when I had summers free!
