Julianna, I think those of us who know you well understood what you meant. It is sad that others ran off with your words and turned the whole thread into something it wasn't meant to be. I know your sweet and never meant to hurt anyone.

On a side note, I think the MENA baby pics are really nice. I try to comment on them when I have a chance. It makes me really hopeful that someday I will have children as adorable as the ones I see in this forum.

Baby pictures? Its not our fault that you nasty poster either cant get pregnant or your husband wont knock you up so you trash the girls on here that post pics of their kids

Wahrania, I never made comments on that other site. Never thought anyone's baby was ugly. They are gifts of God and those women lucky to have them should know that. There was no reason to attack those of us who haven't been gifted with children. I know you mean the people who posted the nasty comments, but I have been dying to have children for the last couple years and haven't gotten that lucky, not to mention my husband is too far away to try for the time being. When you said that, you have to realize it could hurt women that you aren't even aiming it at. Please think before you say something that drastic.

Who say "inshallah" and other words too much and shouldn't post so many baby pics. That about sums it up.

Oh, and we are totally obedient and cover our hair. I guess I'm failing in some of these departments.

Middle East and North AfricaWhy arabic instead of English
I get asked all the time if "had to convert to Islam" for my husband. It is so silly. I tell them no I did not. I was already muslim when we got married. As for arabic, I was studying that years before I studied Islam seriously or met my husband. I know it is annoying. Now I have run accross some people who are not serious about Islam when they convert and it does annoy me. It gives us a bad name. Like most Christian men that convert to Islam for their wife, those men rarely take it seriously beyond saying the words. It is so easy to see as they never talk about God or act in any way like a muslim. Not only that, but their wives tend to slack off on Islam and you see them wearing totally western styles. Of course the minute these wives go home to visit family back in the ME, magically the hijab appears and conservative clothing. Why is no one talking about these guys?

Then there are the women who converted, but it isn't in their hearts. They may give a serious attempt at Islam for maybe 6 months and then it all falls apart. Why? Because the didn't think and research properly before converting. I have seen where these women end up getting divorced and suddenly they are writing about how awful Islam is and how thankful they are for getting away from it. They messed up. They married their husband under the wrong assumptions. This is why I always say, study Islam very carefully before converting. Make sure you know what you are getting into because it is not easy. Islam is not for everyone and no one should bow to pressure.

Before I found Islam, I was barely a Christian. I believed in God and I prayed to him and only him. I didn't make calls to anyone else as some others do in Christianity. I never understood why anyone did. God is the one who answers prayers. Why would you talk to anyone else? This is my opinion and even before becoming muslim so don't attack me people. I'm just telling you how I thought. I did believe in Jesus. I had been saved and even babtised twice. I never believed Jesus was some form of a God, though I did believe he was a son (authu biAllah). I almost never went to church as an adult. I constantly disagreed with the preachers so I finally said I would worship God in my own way. Then I found Islam and started reading and finding myself agreeing with so much. This is what convinced me. I hope others will search their hearts and minds before making such a big decision as changing religions. Its not a trifling matter.

We didn't get hit by the storm really. Just one storm and it wasn't that bad. The one effect we have had is the fuel is running out at the gas stations. Today I noticed I was starting to get low and so I started looking where is cheapest. I passed three gas stations that were either completely out of fuel or only had premium. Found a few that were open, but it was $4.25 a gallon sad.gif

every1 forgpt about us... thank god just 10 minute ago we got electricity now I can see whats going on...my husband got here safe too

I was wondering if he got here safely. I was so worried! I'm glad you got ur electric back too coz maaaan its hot down here.

I'm writing from one of my friends' houses (she's one of the pharmacists that I work under at my pharmacy) We were tired of eating canned beef/chicken/turkey, and crackers. It got so hot that we were sitting in pools of sweat NOT EVEN MOVING!!! If we laid down, the part of our bodies that was touching anything was drinched within 2 minutes! We just couldn't take it anymore. Still have no power at the apartment and the water pressure is like the pressure in Jordan lol (basically nonexistant hehehe) We did manage to take showers so that felt great! We will only be staying here at my friends house for tonight and then its back home.

Apparently the only thing causing the power outage is a transformer slipped outta place. around 300 ppl are without electricity in our complex and 3 out of 30 units are completely powerless. It would only take about 5 minutes to fix but the govt mandated that the electric companies go to the areas that are the most heavily populated with the most outages first! That means it could very well be in to next week before we have anyone out to fix us!

There are trees uprooted, electric poles/street light poles down (or leaning wayyy over). None of the stop lights are working properly so 8 lane highways are very interesting as 4 way intersections... wacko.gif There are demolished sign remains all over the place along with shingles, drain pipes, etc etc.

(by the way, the green car in the parking lot is my husbands mustang biggrin.gif )

I am going to attempt to work tomorrow for a while so we'll see how that goes.

VP is doing fine. They lost power for a few hours but that was it. MBP is MIA and I'm worried but my phone isn't connecting well with anybody so it's a stroke of luck if I actually make contact at all!

How's noura? I know they got bad stuff in her area also so I've been praying that they didn't lose their electricity again! I really hope they get us up and running very soon coz if I have to eat 1 more can of spam....I'm gonna hurl! lmao!!!!!

Take care everyone! Thanks for the well wishes and I'll try to come back and update you more if I get to be near internet again lol.

I am glad you are doing fine. Thanks for coming to update us. Sorry about the electricity. That really sounds bad with the heat. Inshallah they will get you back up and running soon! Take care and I hope you get something more decent to eat soon. I hate spam so I can't imagine how you are doing it!

I had this talk with my husband as well. I am totally against piercing our daughter's ears should we have daughters (inshallah). It is taking a decision out of their hands. I was so angry with my mother for forcing me to get earings when I was young. Eventually I got rid of them and the holes grew back, lol. Later, when I was 9 years old I finally decided for myself I wanted them and I took care of them myself.

I don't think earings in babies is cute at all. Honestly it makes me ill to my stomach, but each person has the right over their child so I will not judge. I just want to cry thinking how the baby just had such a big decision taken from them with no consideration. I feel babies are cute without earings. If God wanted babies to have holes in his ears, he would have put them there. Let the baby girls grow up a litte and make the decision for themselves. I'm sorry, but this subject really makes me cry because I feel it is abuse. Most people see no problem with it. I guess they are fine with doing what "everyone else does" and not considering what is actually right.

My husband insists we should get our daughters ears pierced. He asked if I will go against him and "disobey him". I told him no, he can go himself and take any daughters we may have and get their ears done by himself. Then he can care for and clean the babies ears himself. I will be too busy crying for the first months every time I see my child and what was done to her precious ears. Sorry, I feel very strongly about this subject.

Wow!! You sound very passionate about this subject, which I dont really understand, but I can respect your opinion. However i dont think its abuse. It really doesnt hurt that much. Most babies cry for all of a couple minutes. I guess I just dont see ear piercing as such a life changing experience. Its just body jewelry to me. I dont think I do what everyone else does cause I dont see anything right or wrong with ear piercing. You yourself have ear piercings so you cannot say you disagree with the idea of them....that makes no sense. Do you disagree with the age in which one gets it done, cause I can guanrantee your daughter will want it done.

Of course I would allow my daughter to get her ears pierced when she is older. This was why I pointed out that I was much happier when I was able to ask for it myself when i was older.

QUOTE (Hoomsfuturewife @ Sep 21 2008, 03:27 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
It only took seeing one woman with a permanently ripped in half earlobe for me to be against small children getting pierced ears. There is so much potential for a small child to have a playmate accidentally rip the earring out and when they get older there's the potential that a schoolyard bully might intentionally rip it out.

I think it's better to let the kids wait and have it be a nice sweet 16 ritual.

Here's the Pediatric's view of piercing a baby's ears.:

http://pediatrics.ab...y_wk_five_9.htm

Quote:
the American Academy of Pediatrics does recommend that you "postpone the piercing until your child is mature enough to take care of the pierced site herself."
This can help avoid some of the risks of baby ear piercing, including:

infection - younger infants have immature immune systems, so they might not be able to fight off an infection at the site of the piercing very well.
choking hazard - if they get the earring off.
allergic reactions - to the metals in the earrings (especially nickle and gold) she wears, but which can be hard to notice since infants normally rub their ears a lot.
embedded earring - this occurs when one part of the earring goes into the earring hole and gets embedded inside. Although this can happen at any age, it can be harder to remove from infants.

If you love your child why would you risk even the smallest chance of hurting it for something so purely selfish and incredibly superficial?
The baby doesn't want or need it. It is these crazy parents using their children as props that want it so they can have an accessory. But a child is not an accessory.

I totally agree with you good.gif

I usually have to throw the pill into my cats mouth with a little water and then hold their mouth shut. I tried all the nice ways and it never worked so I stopped messing around. Now, if they are young enough and there is a wet food they like you can break up the pill in there, but if they are older and don't eat much wet food then you gotta do it the mean way. Sometimes they get smart though and act like they swollowed, but they just hide the pill and spit it out once you walk away. These are the cats I really have to fight wacko.gif My grandmother had some luck with putting butter on pills and getting her cats to swollow that. It just didn't work for me because the cats just licked the butter off and didn't take the pill.
