Has anyone noticed if there's a difference with only son's or all MENA son's "the favorite" to the mom and dad?

I noticed this among many families though my husband's family has 5 sons and 2 daughters so it works out okay for the girls as there are plenty of boys and no need for favortism. His family seems like the more fair type anyway though I have been told they hope I have a boy first, lol.

my MIL streight up said Reda is her favorite... i thought she was playing but Reda's sisters also confirmed .... he is the families' favorite star_smile.gif ... i have kids i don't think i would ever say that...unless in jest whistling.gif

I got really annoyed one time when a ME friend told me she wanted to show me the new pics of her brother's baby daughter. I think I saw one picture before she want on to show me gobs of pics of his 2 year old son. Then she coooed over him for the next five minutes forgeting all about the new baby girl. I was so annoyed. I am always commenting to her about how I think girls are more useful in the house than boys and will be better at taking care of their parents when they get old compared to boys. She never listens to that, lol, though she sends money to her mother all the time compared to her brother. One day she told me she was sure I would have a girl first because I prefer them. I laughed and said I doubt it as I would get a boy first just because I complain of them so much, lol. Personally, I will love all my children the same. I just feel the need to defend girls because they get the short stick in the ME.

Well, my soup is souper! It turned out very well - I'll give you the recipe:

1 pound stew beef cubed and lightly browned. (I actually had some left over sirloin and tri-tip so I cut it into cubes.)
2 bags frozen mixed vegetables. (green beans, corn, carrots, and lima beans)
1 potato (peeled and cubed)
1 envelope Onion Soup mix
1 beef boullion cube
1 64 oz bottle of V8 juice
Optional - dash of parsley, dash of crushed red pepper - I also had a few diced red tomatoes that I threw in. I put it in the crockpot for 4 hours on high. I hope you enjoy.

I make something similar to that, though I don't use a crockpot (I don't have one, lol). I use a regular pot and sometimes I vary the potatoes and use egg noodles instead. I haven't tried the V8 juice before, that is a good idea, I usually use tomato paste but it is tricky in how much to put. I also cook the meat for over an hour by itself before putting in the vegetables. While it is by itself I put some Cumin, seasoning salt, and a couple other things in.

S & S I don't know if I'm overstepping telling you about this because I have to find the articles to back it up. But we just had a Journalist come speak at our classes, Molly Hennessey-Fisk, who works for the L.A. Times and reported from Iraq. She told us yesterday in class that the journalists interpreters were being given US asylum for helping them, because they can't go back home as people from their village plot to kill them when they learn of people that help American Soilders and Journalists. Especially in the Shia populated villages of southern Iraq.

They also plot to kill any fellowship students that go to the US or other Western cultures to learn about the technology and advancements and get an education and after two years when they go back to Iraq the people kill them. So they changed legislation so that the fellowships could apply for asylum and stay in the US because what's the point of going back when you're just going to get killed. They can't help their country at this time but maybe when things stabilize more there they can go back and help. One of the fellowship students own brother killed him when he came back. And this happened with many others. It's very sad but a sure fire way to get a visa here now.

Hopefully though your Husband is in a safe place and able to get the visa soon.

Yeah, it is really frustrating to hear on the news. They say they don't want all of Iraq's educated people to leave because of the "brain drain" effect. That stupid Iraqi president claims he is working so hard to make Iraq better when really he is just lining his pockets and his cronies with money while giving his people almost nothing. They don't point out that most of the educated people cannot stay because their lives are threatened. What good does it do to keep all these doctors, scientists, journalists, teachers, etc if the ignorant, uneducated people will just kill them? My husband was already threatened and forced to leave. Now he is told that because he married me, they have another reason to kill him. He cannot go back to Iraq, not now, not for decades possibly. I wrote the department of state about all of this, all my paperwork states the situation, but it has not helped us. Trust me, if they are muslim, then they make it hard because they don't care. I'm really losing faith. All the christians, single, married, etc have already came to the United States from my husband's group. They got their phone calls end of July/early August. I am so upset with the process right now, you have to ignore me. I just thank God I can go see him before starting in on the rest of the wait. I also decided if they want to continue jerking us around then I will leave this country next summer and be with him wherever that is. I can't wait forever.

The one drawback to refugee is that he will have to wait until he has been here 5 years before he can apply for citizenship, but he says he doesn't care about that. He just wants to be with me. I think I am going to work on him getting me the paperwork because I really think we should do both. They may be going slow on his paperwork for refugee just because they know he has another way here. Who knows with them?

Happy Caturday, Y'all! I just made some homemade vegetable beef soup and it's a-cooking away in the crock pot. Will be ready late tonight with some fresh French bread from Sam's. (sorry for all who are fasting - I didn't mean to tempt anyone.) blush.gif

S & S - he might actually be able to apply for citizenship after 3 years if married to you and meeting the 3 years residency. Maybe, maybe not - but it would be worth investigating a few years down the line. good.gif

No, he doesn't get the green card until he has been here a year with the refugee program. After one year he does the paperwork for the 10 year, but it is free for refugees to submit.

His reason for not wanting it is that he doesn't want to be a burden on me and feels that with refugee he can at least get some assistance when he first gets here. They will pay my rent the first month he is here and give him some money for a few months to help him get by. Its not much, but better than nothing. Also, he gets a sponsor that helps him get settled here and take care of things like ssn card, finding a job, learning his way around, etc. This would be a big help to me since I will have limited time with work and all.

OK. I remember you saying the burden part, but I figured there had to be an advantage to the refugee over the spouse route if he wanted it so badly.

I told him over and over to sign and send it, but he wanted this refugee so he didn't do it. He would have already interviewed at the embassy by now if he had sent it when I asked. Nothing else I can do.

Well, the CR-1 can take some time but I don't see why he wouldn't want to pursue it just in case. Does the refugee give him a 10 yr permanent resident card right away?

S and S, thought I would move the conversation out of your thread so as not to go OT. Yeah, I had heard Christian Iraqis and single women get in faster... although I know sometimes it's not the case. I wonder what is taking them so long to call.

I don't know, but Rocketta's husband is still waiting too. They say there is no science to how fast people get approved. Some people get it in no time and others can wait months or years. My husband met a woman at the IOM a few months ago, she finally got approved and her case had started fall of last year! There were others that were finally getting approved this spring that had put in for refugee back in the 1990s. It really makes no sense.

Are you concurrently pushing an I-130?

Oh, they didn't send me my old passport back sad.gif Then I read something in the pamphlet they sent with the new one saying that it may arrive later in the mail. I hope it does. I don't want to lose that one with the memories and stuff!

With all that has been said.

I don't think its being careful of whom we pick as friends...people come in and out of your life for reason. Take what you've experienced and learn and move on. But we ourselves need to be more consistent in our personalities and treatment of our friends. There are three sides to every story as they say...

Don't expect friends to stay friends long if you don't help grow the relationship and respect it. That includes keeping confidences, treating them like you'd like to be treated yourself and most of all forgiving them when they admit they have messed up.

Lack of forgiveness makes for a very bitter person.

Peace rose.gif

I guess when they *honestly* admit they messed up and admit what they did was wrong instead of rewording it and making it look like something it really wasn't, then I can think about forgiving.

This was a very interesting experience for me because I am now able to weed out a few people that I thought were genuine. I guess we could look at it as an early Eid gift so that instead of continuing certain relationships which were fake to begin with I can now focus on the more real ones....ones that won't outright make a game of who's husband is a sleeper cell, etc. I'm sure this is true for more than just me as well.

In any event I'm going to go back to my Ramadan bubble now. It was a lot nicer in there.

I guess you are lucky enough to never have your words misunderstood before or been ridiculed when you tried to clarify yourself (though you did apologize if you did offend anyone). If only all of us were as good at speaking in a way that all could understand our meaning and never offend anyone.

On a side note, I think the MENA baby pics are really nice. I try to comment on them when I have a chance. It makes me really hopeful that someday I will have children as adorable as the ones I see in this forum.

Baby pictures? Its not our fault that you nasty poster either cant get pregnant or your husband wont knock you up so you trash the girls on here that post pics of their kids

Wahrania, I never made comments on that other site. Never thought anyone's baby was ugly. They are gifts of God and those women lucky to have them should know that. There was no reason to attack those of us who haven't been gifted with children. I know you mean the people who posted the nasty comments, but I have been dying to have children for the last couple years and haven't gotten that lucky, not to mention my husband is too far away to try for the time being. When you said that, you have to realize it could hurt women that you aren't even aiming it at. Please think before you say something that drastic.

I can not wait to see your beautiful babies! rose.gif

Thanks Nawal. I know I love seeing yours. Never take those pics down again please!
