I'm just wondering... everyone is sooo into the whole Superbowl- am I un-American if I don't pay any attention to that? blink.gif I just HATE to sit and watch others play a game on tv, in person fine, but it loses so much for me when it is over the bube-tube! offtopic45vn.gif In any case! Have a GREAT week MENA! The sooner the weekend is over the closer we are to our actual interview date!!! 16 Jordanian days and counting!!! AHHHHH! wacko.gif

I'm glad I'm not the only one not watching the game, lol. Good luck on the interview. It is getting so close!!!

Middle East and North AfricaSunday lazy Sunday..
I'm going shopping for food during the super bowl. I never watch it or pay any attention to it and it is great to shop at that time since the stores are fairly empty with everyone watching the game. I think it would be a bigger deal to me if there was ever a team I liked playing but it never happens so I don't see the point in watching. I know, I am horrible, lol.

I feel so bad for you Amal. You are such a sweet and wonderful person and all this happens to you. I wish I lived close enough to you so I could give you a hug and help in any way I can. If you think of anything I can do, let me know. In the meantime I am sending lots of hugs your way and good vibes. Hopefully things will work out and this will all get past you.

Middle East and North AfricaStopped cooking for my husband!
I'm so sorry for all your troubles Nutty. I think the plan you have is great and I really hope it works. He needs to learn how he should be spending him money and helping you.

The situation in my marriage has been different thank God. My husband is trying to find work now though transportation is our biggest problem. He is studying for the written part of the driving test so we can at least let him practice driving legally. Hopefully he will not need more than a couple weeks to adjust to driving here and then we can get his full license. For now I pay for everything though he did bring some money with him and the refugee place gave us some to use for him. He just handed it all to me and told me to spend it how I thought was best. Once he starts working he plans to just give me his check to use for the bills and if he needs some money he will just ask.

Surprisingly he does try to help me around the house in small ways. He will take out the trash, he picks up dirty dishes and takes them to the kitchen, he will even help me cut up vegetables for cooking. The most suprising was yesterday when I had to stay at work later than usual so he offered to start dinner if I just told him what to do. He has no idea how to cook but he still offered. Problem was I was planning to make home made chicken noodle soup. I had a whole chicken in the refrigerator thawed and waiting to be cleaned. He actually did clean it, through out the innards and start boiling it for me so when I got home I could move on to the next steps. I was so happy with him for that. He has even been asking for me to show him how the washer and dryer work.

It will get better. This is one of the things we were talking about when we said patience, patience, patience. Let me reitterate (sp) PATIENCE, PATIENCE, PATIENCE. It will eventually slow down but it does take a while. IN the meantime, we're here for ya!

Happy Monday! Got the overflowing problem corrected for now so all is calm and neutral in my house alhamdulillah! Got groceries and had our first guests over the past weekend so that was nice.

Hearing aides should be in sometime this week so keep ur fingers crossed that they will help my lil'man catch up on all he has lost out on.

I hope you all have an eventful and super teriffic day!

The questions definitely never end. I am glad my father lives with us so I don't get all of them. My husband also used his CNA classes to ask his teacher and fellow students many questions which saved me some. After two months some of the questions have eased up but some things have not. Still got to work on my husband using the microwave on his own though he is using it if I tell him the times to put in. I really can't blame him, the microwave can be a lot of guess work in knowing the times and takes practice. I still don't always guess the times right on some things.

Mine still has uhh "questions" of ... in Jordan it is better because of ______ so why in America is it ______ .... It probably started easing up after around 6 to 7 months(ish) Anything new, though, is a new question. I remember wanting to tear my hair out at times...

lol, yeah, they like to compare, but i know I would do the same thing if I lived there. My husband loves to look at all the receipts from grocery stores and such just to see exactly what they charged and the taxes. He really can't believe the taxes we pay. I have to explain we don't nationalize all our natural resources so our government has to get most of its money from tax revenue. He was used to getting a lot of things free and not much taxes because Iraq has so much oil. I swear I have had to figure out a lot of thing I never thought about before just to give my husband good answers, lol.

Has anyone noticed if there's a difference with only son's or all MENA son's "the favorite" to the mom and dad?

I noticed this among many families though my husband's family has 5 sons and 2 daughters so it works out okay for the girls as there are plenty of boys and no need for favortism. His family seems like the more fair type anyway though I have been told they hope I have a boy first, lol.

I forgot about Eid being at that time, that will slow things down. I know a woman who got her passport back after one week for Amman. It may vary, I don't know.

Middle East and North AfricaThe hijab is a symbol of oppression, sexism and perversion - Agree or disagree?
QUOTE (hichoufy @ Nov 21 2008, 10:15 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
What's wrong with you people. Why are we talking about Hijab why is it a target lately by a lot of people. We shouldn't talk about this because is not bad at all to cover your head. It's everyone choice you can be a good person or a bad person with hijab or not. Or you can be a good christian or a bad christian. Not only the muslim wears a scarf a lot of people cover their hair around the world. We are here to help but not to judge people/ Do not forget we are in VISA JOURNEY!!!!!!!! headbonk.gif headbonk.gif headbonk.gif headbonk.gif headbonk.gif headbonk.gif headbonk.gif headbonk.gif headbonk.gif

Why can't we talk about it? The point is to let everyone voice their opinions on something so we can see different sides and perspectives. That is what free speech and debate are for. Some people feel offended by the hijab, then there are those of us who don't. If we don't talk about the good thing about the hijab then those who don't like it will never know or learn. Don't be offended by the discussion because its not something to take personal. The goal is to say why you think the hijab is good and acceptable so others will understand your side.
S and SFemaleIraq2008-11-21 23:31:00
Middle East and North AfricaThe hijab is a symbol of oppression, sexism and perversion - Agree or disagree?
I believe its every woman's right to chose what she wants to wear to include the hijab. Some women feel more comfortable wearing it and people should respect that.

Now, I also feel the middle east has some serious sexual repression issues. A woman could walk down the street in a bakini and get less stares here then she would wearing jeans and a t-shirt in the middle east (especially if she were to walk alone). Men and women are so segregated that it causes more curiosity. Also, they say in places like Saudi there is a large presence of homosexuality because men and women rarely interact with each other outside of immediate family.

For me, I wish there was a compromise of sorts, but I have no say. Anyway, the point is that if a woman wants to cover from head to foot because that makes her feel comfortable then more power to her! That should be her right without harrassment or judgement.

Middle East and North AfricaSugar and lemon anyone???
I went and had it done by a professional last year at a spa, but it was expensive so after that I started doing it myself. It hurts, i'll admit, but it always turns out great and I'm happy I did it. I had no experience at all before last year and no one to give advice. The only thing I could go off of was how the woman did it at the spa, but it really wasn't that hard and the pain was manageable. Maybe I'm weird, lol, but it doesn't bother me much.

Middle East and North AfricaSugar and lemon anyone???
I tried that sugar and lemon mixture a couple times and never got it exactly right. Finally figured out bakini wax from the store (that doesn't need the papers) works best for me. I'm always a baby about it in the beginning, but then I get faster. Totally worth it when you finish. Letting the husband help can be good too, lol.

We are cooking at my house. My father and grandfather are here so it will be just us three. Everyone is contributing to the cooking which is nice. We are doing it the traditional way with a baked turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, dressing, corn, pies. I can't wait until it is all ready. I never eat breakfast or anything before Thanksgiving dinner so I can have plenty of room.

got home after going to my aunts. All the kids and me went to my sons grave today and the stone was up and it was hard but we needed to. We then went on to see my aunt and had thanks giving. There is a park close to the cemetary and I took their pictures by a lake surrounded by trees. It wasnt as bad as I thought and it was important for my mom to see all the kids all together and dressed up. I survived today and it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. seeing my sons tombstone was very very hard but I enjoyed having my kids by my side...Some things are not describable.. but in time they can become bearable

God Bless You and Your Family H I T
and may he continue to give you strength, peace, and comfort... rose.gif

Thanks. None of my family would go to the cemetary but my kids go and its helping my son keep my babys life in context and no mommy didnt make him disappear even if no one else will talk about him,he can talk about him with me. The tombstone is granite and amazing and I stopped being mad at my husband for abandoning me with all the problems. I just know in my heart that I went all the way through for my son and gave him a proper burial and tombstone and that he mattered to me. The aunts house I went through was horribly unkind to me during the funeral and told me i should not even bury him or buy memorial cards. Everyone who dies deserves a proper burial and being a mommy doesnt stop when people mess up ( go to jail, have problems in live) or when the child dies. The best memorial for him is for me to do a really good job taking care of my other kids and keeping their life stable. I visit the cemetary often and I have taken my son 2 times this week because he needed to go. He is having the roughest time of everyone. Plus his American dad stood him up for visitation this thanksgiving preferring to get drunk and watch football. So I might not be a "good mom"but I am all he has and he deserves more than a basket case for a mom... I put my big girl panties on

My thoughts are with you. I can imagine things are still really hard for you, but I am happy to see you getting stronger and doing what has to be done. Its good to go to the grave if it brings you comfort and I'm really glad you got the headstone for it. Don't let your family criticize you. They obviously don't understand and don't want to. Hopefully things will get better for you in time and you can build new and better memories.
