Morning MENA, I haven't been online much recently. Things have been busy and hubby loves to use the computer, lol. I am so happy for him though because he passed his driver's test yesterday and so now he has his full driver's license. We weren't sure if he was ready, but the test went great. This definitely decreases the stress of things he needs to do so he can be settled here altogether. Now we just have to find him a job since he can drive himself now smile.gif

Middle East and North AfricaDINNER IN MENA LAND
My husband will not hardly even try pancakes or maple syrup. Even if I get him to eat pancakes he insists on putting honey on them. I don't think he gives maple syrup a genuine chance sad.gif When we go to a place that has pancakes or waffles, he always orders a cheese burger so it kind of makes things difficult. We took him to Red Lobster and he did think the food was good, but the things he likes at Red Lobster I can make at home and how he likes it, so not too much point in going to the restaurant where it is more expensive. I love lobster and crab legs which he is not fond of so we have to go sometimes because I'm not cooking either of those, lol.

As for around the house, my husband will try to straighten the living room sometimes and he makes the bed in the mornings most days. If I have to work late he will ask me if I need him to start something for dinner. He doesn't know how to cook but he is good at following directions which is great. Him and my father (who lives with us) take the trash to the dump every week or two as we don't have trash pick up where I live. My father keeps the kitchen clean and washes the dishes so that helps. My main jobs are laundry, cleaning the bathroom and doing the detailed cleaning of the living room and bedrooms.

Here is my take on waxing. I have found that many white women with the lighter white hairs on their legs will have a very difficult time with sugar wax.

Thanks for your feedback Hmmm. This is not good news to me, as I am blonde and white and fair skinned. sad.gif But nair does NOT work for me, so maybe the sugar waxing will. (I'm not sure if that conclusion makes any sense, but I guess trying is the only way to find out) I'll keep you updated. Hope to try this week some time. smile.gif

I went to a spa the first time so I could see how the waxing is done. They did it much faster than I can and with less pain, but as you said, it was expensive. I was in California at the time and paid about $100. The wax worked fine on my coarser hair, but I still found leftover hairs on my legs that the professionals missed. It did help to see how they did it so when I started, I had a much better idea of how. I haven't damaged my skin though I have gotten some rashes before if I didn't do it just right. The wax that works best for me is the hot wax that hardens and you pull it off without strips, but it is expensive to use in large areas so I wouldn't recommend it for the legs. Like others said though, you have to find what works for you.

Middle East and North AfricaSugaring?
Here is my take on waxing. I have found that many white women with the lighter white hairs on their legs will have a very difficult time with sugar wax. Sugar wax works great for darker, courser hair but hardly works on those of us with light hair. I made the sugar wax several times and each time it didn't take much hair off, it still hurt and it took up too many hours of my time. Just to check, I had a roomate who was half Mexican with the darker and thicker hair. The same wax that wouldn't work for me, I put it on her and her hair came right off. After that I went through many types of waxes they had in the store. Some are better than others. I found the ones with strips work better for me. I can grin and bear it through the pain of waxing, but I got tired of it. It took me over two hours, maybe three, just to wax my legs. Then, once I did it, it only lasted a few weeks before I would have to do it again. I finally told my husband that it was just too ridiculous and I was going back to shaving my legs. I did find a great wax that gets every hair and doesn't use strips for my bikini area. I still wax that area and sometimes my face though you really can't see the hair on my face either unless you look really close. I also figured out the fastest way to get rid of the hair on the rest of you is Nair. It takes ten minutes and lasts a couple weeks, almost no pain if you are careful and use the sensitive formula (I break out in a rash with regular Nair).

I love the part when she walks into the classroom and stands in front of the fan and he smells her. Twilight was the most, upbeat of the series. Book 2 made me cry so many times I almost quit reading it. Book 4 is disturbing.

I swear I was depressed while reading book two which was ironic because my husband was about to arrive at that time. I knew I had to finish it before he came or he would wonder what is wrong with me, lol. I was so glad when things got happier again.

I agree book 4 was disturbing though I loved the ending. Not sure how they could make a movie out of it though, it gets rather gruesome.

Happy Monday!

This day is going to ROCK! Work til 2pm, turn in 2 orders for carpet, go on a measure, then dinner out with friends that I haven't seen in years to discuss business. cool.gif

Twilight was a true case of 'the book is WAYYYY better than the movie' The book was 500 pages and there is so much more to it than the director could have put to a movie. Most of the intrigue in the book was the characters THOUGHTS and that didn't translate well at all to the movie.

Hype? I've probably seen it 50 times already..lol tongue.gif

Hope ya'll have a great day!

Totally agree with you about Twilight. If you don't read the book, the movie doesn't even really make a lot of sense. I bought the DVD Saturday myself.

Good morning everyone. I hope everyone has a great day.

Maureen- I watched the Race to Witch Mountain a week ago and thought it was pretty good. As for Twilight, I really think it is easier to understand if you read the book, but the movie is rather slow, my husband didn't like it either. For me, the book is way better than the movie, actually I read all four books, lol.

Middle East and North AfricaMENA Book Club
I have the ever so slight problem of tending to read the really good books within a day or two if I have the time (and sometimes I just don't sleep if it is a work night to finish a book). I suppose I could re-read the chapter so I could be ready for discusion. I am not sure how others read. I know some like to take it a little at a time and others are like me and just read through quickly.

Is it possible to pick a book we all agree on and set a time to review the book? Another idea is rather than chapters, we say at a certain point people can discuss the first half of the book and at another point discuss the last half. Just trying to throw out ideas, honestly I will work with anything. You really have some great ideas yourself, Olivia, on how to do this and more experience on what worked best last summer.

Good Morning and Good Friday Mena peeps.

Nagi, I hope you are feeling better today.

HELLO S and S!! How's life treating ya?

Charles I wanted to say....3 days to go??? Well your little egg may be hatching just in time for Easter, eh???
I hope for Nessa's sake the little boy comes soon.

Well I just wanted to have some fun and ask you guys what candies did you like finding in your Easter baskets every year?

I would have to say Resees was my all time favs and my mom used to find these Hummingbird eggs...which are little tiny pastel colored eggs that tasted a little like candy corns...same texture just different colors.

Anyway being Italian we I always look forward to brocolli rabe, some roast pork sandwiches and ricotta pie...oh oh and my Mom Mom always made this awesome Easter bread!

I hope you all have a blessed Easter.
I am just heading to my mom's. My hubby has to work but getting time and half for that.

Only 1 1/2 hours to go until I get out of here. Not sure what we are going to do. Something in the city I think and unfortunately they are calling for rain.

Hey Sandrila, I am doing really well. Thanks for asking. I was gone most of the day or I would have replied sooner. I hope all is well with you smile.gif

Yes if all goes well many good things are coming for me! So what did you decide to finish your study in? It won't take you long will it with all your transfer credits?

I decided to major in History with a minor in political science and arabic. At least I'm hoping for the minor in Arabic as I have way more Arabic college credit than the University even offers so they may say I have to take their classes which I'm not repeating. They did accept all my transfer credits though, which totaled 70 hours putting me as a Junior. I'm considering going on for my masters as well since my ultimate goal would be to teach at the University. For now, I'm waiting to see if I got accepted in the honors college. I had to wait until I got accepted to the University itself first, then I could put in the application for the honors program. It required an essay. I'm praying they like it as I worked hard on it. Out of my hands now though.

As for you, I know I would be so excited if I could go to school there and be with the Hubby. You will have to let me know what you think of the University and the classes there.

I'm assuming that she can't go out at all without him since she stated the SILs can't go out without their husbands either. Or maybe they can't go out without a male escort? I don't see anything wrong with a group of women going out to shop or whatever. Like I said before my SILs and I did and not one man tried to bother us. I can see him not wanting her to go out alone because of the language or harrasment but to not be able to go out period without a male escort or him is really extreme.

I'm just concerned about the wording..."unless we call him and ask if it's ok" Sounds Not Without My Daughter-ish.

Ok , let me clear things up a bit here lol...

I can go outside, yes!... alone..no!.... I can go outside with his sister in laws, or anyone that speaks arabic... that is not the problem... the problem im having is.... he doesnt seem to want to let me be free.... there is a grocery store 10 ft from my apartment building, and he doesnt like me going there alone... I said why not? he said because people might bother you outside, and I dont want u to encounter any problems here Jill...
personally, I think hes afraid maybe I will go outside and find another man to fall in love with, I mean that may not be the case at all, thats just kind of what my gut tells me... like he doesnt want to lose me to someone else..
because I see myself. no other reason why I couldnt go to that store and come right back.

as far as the calling the hubby's to tell them we r going outside, oh yes! ... none of the girls in this family just go outside freely... they all must call and tell their husbands where they r going and what time they r coming back... my husband's sister's do the same. that is how this family was raised I suppose.

My husband was the same way when I was in Syria. He didn't like me to go out alone. Even before he came here, I always had to tell him where I was going, how long I would be gone, who I would be with, etc. I worried it may get worse after he got here, but actually it got much better. He saw the different lifestyle here and adjusted. I still inform him of my whereabouts, call him at lunch and when I'm coming home, but it isn't suppressive. I know many American women who do the same. Usually if I go out after work then he comes with me, but I have no problem with that. There is nothing abusive about it. You said that your husband will let you go out with his relatives, if this is the case then he isn't totally controlling. Also, I've had friends who traveled through the middle east on their own, particularly Egypt. They admitted to harrassment because no men were with them so this is a real possibility if you go out alone. I think so long as you make sure he understands the differences and work things out for how it will be in America, you should be fine. This is just my opinion though, I could be wrong, every situation is different.

The pain is still going now. Its so tempting to take the pain meds, but I am afraid to take them and then cause problems. I expected there to be some transition on the lower dose. My day started out okay, but steadily got worse. I had the nuerologist lower my blood pressure medicine because I am trying to get pregnant and my current dosage is much too high. So I went from one 120MG time release capsule each day to an 80MG time release capsule. That was two nights ago and now I'm paying for it since that medicine is what prevents my migraines. I've had the worst migraine in years. I barely could drive home and thank God I managed to leave work a little early. I came straight home, blacked out the room and went to sleep. My head is still hurting now, a couple hours later, but it is slightly more tolerable. I'm trying to heat something to eat now as that usually gives me an hour break from the pain (no idea why food does that but I'm glad it does). The odd part is I get really nauseous while I have a migraine and yet food just makes that part go away for awhile rather than making me throw up. Anyway, sorry to keep rattling on, but I wish this pain would go away.
