My husband is always worried about me going to the mosque, but I explain to him there are few other ways for me to learn Islam from others and interact with other muslim women. Often times I feel like such a minority with little help to grow into my religion and practice it properly. Every day I learn new things and I thank God he has guided me thus far. Yet for my husband, he is uncomfortable with the idea of me going there because he doesn't know the mosque or the people. It is a compromise to let me go, but I promise to let him know how it went and who I talked to. The funny thing is, when I went to a mosque in the middle east, I came through the same entrance as the men. Here in the United States I always have to go through the women's entrance. One would think it would be the opposite!

Rocketta-- probably the biggest conflict we have is Shabbat. I don't want to do any work and he insists on cleaning every little thing every moment of the day. Other than that, our differences aren't cultural or relgious but rather personality traits smile.gif We're pretty compatible.

honestly I hate to say it right now but I would love to deal with the little differences and find out what they are. I have to wait and try to predict what are issues would be. sad.gif

Ask your husband how he feels about you going out alone at night. My husband hates it if I do that even though I assure him it is fine and safe. Well, that worked until some weird guy followed me for an hour and I had to call the police to get rid of him. The sad part was my father was with me so I wasn't even alone at night. I had just picked him up from the airport. Now my husband is even more protective of me.

The reason I chose not to correct them is because I am sunni and this is a shi'a practice. I don't know enough about shi'a beliefs to take on a whole sect of Islam. I have no personal interest in that battle. My husband's home country does enough of that without my help. In fact, they kill each other every day for it by twisting words of the Quran to justify their actions. Now if these women were sunni, that would be a different matter. Then I might feel I had the right grounds to say something.

They are Sunni. They did not do muta, it is misyar/urfi, the Sunni version of muta.

Really? I have not heard of this before. I will have to look it up. I didn't know such a thing existed in sunni Islam.

I'm sunni myself and had other conversations about the subject of these types of marriages. We don't consider them valid nor do I condone them. The thing is, I do not chose to attack women who have already done them with the best intentions and possibly not realizing anything was wrong with what they are doing. VW, I see that you want to point out their mistake as you feel it is your duty, but how many times must you continue to point it out before you leave it alone. Also, do you have any suggestions for how they could fix these wrongs. Otherwise it seems counterproductive to continuously assault them. Its over and done with, it can't be fixed. It is better to look at how they can make things right in the future. I can't think of a single hadith I read so far where the prophet (pbuh) spent so much time pointing out anothers mistake and saying it in an insulting way. If you can think of one, please let me know so that I may read it and learn from it. (yes, this is me asking you for help and guidance on your views on Islam so that I may learn from them, of course, you reserve the right not to help me)

I am not as concerned about the actions of the women as I am of the Muslim men who convince the women, often non-Muslim or early converts, that this act is halal and results in a valid marriage. There is no assault happening here, it is an education for those who choose to learn, and for those who refuse to learn, they will continue to remain unrepentant, insisting that Islam allows them to create a convenience for themselves, and that creates a burden upon learned Muslims no less imperative than to speak out against other violence to the faith done in the Name of Allah

Why do you not ask them why they do not repent instead of repeatedly demanding respect for their failure? This admonishion is for the future, and it is incumbant upon us to maintain the correct guidance.

Let there arise out of you a band of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining what is right, and forbidding what is wrong: They are the ones to attain felicity. Q3.104

O ye who believe! stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to God, even as against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, and whether it be (against) rich or poor: for God can best protect both. Follow not the lusts (of
your hearts), lest ye swerve, and if ye distort (justice) or decline to do justice, verily God is well- acquainted with all that ye do. Q 4.135

Not equal are those believers who sit (at home) and receive no hurt, and those who strive and fight in the cause of God with their goods and their persons. God hath granted a grade higher to those who strive and fight with their goods and persons than to those who sit (at home). Unto all (in Faith) Hath God promised good: But those who strive and fight Hath He distinguished above those who sit (at home) by a special reward,-

Below is an example of your opportunity to address them instead of me, When I take on my responsibility to forbid what is wrong and promote justice, I am an easy targetm as I am seen as judgmental and unkind in contrast to people speaking of love and inconveniences. Are you up to correcting them and/or telling them to stop their misguidance of others? Or am I merely easier to challenge?

I hope so too.

USCIS Service Centerscalling USCIS !!!
Have you tried the online site for USCIS to see if it is updated there? I am sure if you got a letter then your case is approved. Sometimes they can be really slow updating their systems, but it doesn't mean it isn't approved. Hopefully NVC will update soon. Even NVC can be slow at times, but stay with it and call every other day.

This is the link to check a case status online at USCIS:

https://egov.uscis.g...R-Y5dO2as3ga91r

I never did talk to an operator so I'm not sure how that works, but it shouldn't matter, if you got the letter then it is approved.

I wish I knew what to say. That doesn't make any sense. Maybe you can try again tommorow in the hopes of getting a different operator who understands better or you could ask to speak to a supervisor who may be able to look into the case further.

Has your fiance ever been to the United States and overstayed their visit? This is one of the reasons for denial under that section.

I am feeling those frustrations too as the time passes. My husband and I have been married over 13 months now and miss each other so much. Sometimes we dream of even 5 minutes just so we can hug each other. He finished his interviews and we have been waiting on the background checks too. I hope your fiance gets his visa before you have to leave and endure any seperation. I don't wish that on anyone.

Did you update your timeline? When was the interview? What did they tell you? Did your husband serve in the military?

I didn't update my timeline because they don't have one for the refugee visa which my husband switched to. His first interview was April 13th, then his second was April 30th, and the third and final one was May 27th. My husband did his fingerprints during the 3rd interview but they started the name check after the second interview. He finished his physical exam three weeks ago so it has just been the waiting game. He did not serve in the military since he didn't finish medical school until 2005. At his last interview they just told him that they think he will be with his wife soon and to come back to find out if he is approved on July 19th.

Then today I got a call from one of the organizations that handles incomming refugees in my area. They said they had gotten my husband's case and wanted to verify that I lived in this area and that my husband would be living with me. He is approved now or they wouldn't forward the case on to the organization who will recieve him. This was great news since I hadn't heard anything. The guy said he will send their acceptance documents through the chain and the refugee center in Jordan should get it by the end of the week. So now we are just waiting on them to schedule his flight out and for him to do his Orientations to America that he must do before he leaves. Hopefully this means he will come within a few weeks. Thank God I got this news. It really brightened my day.

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)AP security checks
I found this part rather interesting:

In march and April of 2008, the NNCP finalized customor-level operations plans with USCIS and OPM, respectively. The USCIS plan for reducing the backlog of its name checks calls for placing the oldest pending name checks as the highest priority. Specifically, the NNCP segmented the USCIS name check backlog into timeframes and instructed analysts to begin focusing on the oldest pending name checks first. According to the NNCP, the segmentation of work queues reduced the backlog of name checks older than 4 years from 12,000 to 3,000 between the inception of this initiative in November 2007 and March 2008. The NNCP and USCIS hope to have addressed all name checks pending more than 2 years by July 2008, and those pending more than 1 year by November 2008. Likewise, the OPM operations plan discusses eliminating all OPM name checks pending for over 40 days by April 2009. Both plans rely on using the NNCP's current processes and state that the FBI is issuing a statement of work designed to obtain the services of a contractor to reengineer the name check process with contemporary technology and business practices.

My congresswoman's office contacted Dos and it took time, but they figured out my husband's case had been sent to some office in Houston along with many other Iraqis. Naturally they sent his case over there not too long before the hurricane hit so then the office was closed for three weeks. My congresswoman's office couldn't get through and now they finally got the inquiry put in, but there is still no response to even tell us what the status of his background checks are. This process really is frustrating!

I waited since the end of May for my husband's background checks to be done. I began to think it would never end either, especially because he is Iraqi. I'm not sure if refugee background checks go faster or not as some Iraqis wait years to be approved, but it does happen so don't give up hope. Your time is coming soon. You have to believe that.

I used a lawyer too and they were slow and unhelpful. I wish I had found this site first so I could have avoided the expenses and lost time.

I am sure your security checks will finish soon. I began to wonder myself when I waited 7 months for security checks on my husband's refugee but it did get finished which means it is possible to get an Iraqi through them. I am sure you are close too with the fiance visa. Don't give up. I pray you have your visa soon and this is all over.
