I drove by the NVC last night, Friday Nov 14th at about 10pm. The parking lot was packed and the lights were blazing inside. About 6 weeks ago they hired another 20 people and I think they are gearing up for a huge push in processing.

I will be driving past there today and will let you all know if they are there working today on a Saturday.

Bob

Stop by and bring them some pizza and beer. Maybe they'll work longer. smile.gif

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Cases completed at NVC
I just got the expedite approved so my husband can get his embassy appointment faster as there are a lot of issues we are facing if this waiting continues. Thank God they approved it as I know it isn't easy to get an expedite. Anyone have any idea how it works once NVC sends the paperwork on to the embassy? I already have the case complete so all he really had left was the physical exam and interview. I'm wondering how soon an interview is usually scheduled for an expedite and what the odds are of getting AP if you do expedite.

I am guessing we will not see any interview scheduling until after Thanksgiving. I haven't seen anyone get an appointment this week. It seems they usually schedule in the first two weeks of the month so if your case is complete during that time then you could get an appointment right away, but if your case is complete at another time then you might wait. Then again, NVC can be unpredictable so who knows. Calling never hurts.

I put the case # on the top right hand corner of each page, each document, each pay stub and each letter.

Also, make sure you have copies of your documents just in case the embassy doesn't receive everything you already sent the NVC. You never know.

And don't keep your hopes up in getting your documents back at either the embassy or POE because most of us didn't. They usually keep everything and you never get to see it again.

Diana

What do you mean you never get your original documents back? Those are originals and impossible to replace. My husband cannot go back to Iraq for his birth certificate and we can't go back to Syria for the marriage license. They have to know people need those back.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresLove the waiting
I wish you the best of luck on your journey through this process. There is a roller coaster of emotions that you will go through. I can promise that. You'll have good days where you are full of hope and bad days where everything seems hopeless. I find it rare that I'm not thinking of my husband and how much I miss him. Mostly, I try to do things that can prepare for his arrival. I fixed up things in the house, I bought him a few clothes, I am trying to learn new recipes that I think he could enjoy. I spend a lot of time talking to him. Sometimes the stress becomes too much and we fight. That is natural so if it happens to you, just remember you are under a lot of stress and its going to come out sometimes between you and your SO. VJ has been a life saver for me since no one around me really understands what I'm going through. For that matter, they don't understand why I wanted to go through it. Here you will find friends who will support you and be there. Don't be afraid to talk to us and your always welcome to post in the MENA forum. We are a lively bunch!

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionanyone know what consulate will perform my iraqi fiancee's interview ?
Your fiance cannot do his interview in Iraq. This means he must do it in another country. He needs to start trying now. My husband was rejected three times before he finally got into a country that would allow him in. None of the countries want to let Iraqis in anymore because they have too many Iraqi refugees already. For your fiance's sake, he must begin trying if he will want to make his appointment. You can chose where you want his interview to be and if you have to, you can change the embassy location. NVC considers Iraqis statelss so they don't have to provide proof of residence in order to do their interview somewhere.

I wish if my husband got his G series passport that fast. He submitted for it back in December and they still haven't sent his application to Iraq. He is in some line and they will only send so many at a time to Baghdad. Luckily he is doing refugee so he will not need his passport to enter the United States or we would be waiting extra months for that passport. I don't understand what is the hold up with them.

I am so happy your process is going well otherwise with paperwork. Hopefully things will go according to the timing you have been trying for.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHow much investigating do the CO's actually do?
Well, they asked for chat logs which would have given away his user name. From there they had a way to contact him and bait him. They used those chats they had with him (and him not knowing it was the CO) in order to build their evidence.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHas anyone had their case transferred from one embassy to another?
I'm the opposite problem. My husband and I got married in Damascus, Syria and he since went to Amman. It took him about a year to get his visa into Jordan and there is no way we will risk him going back to Syria as he wouldn't be able to get back into Jordan where his family is. NVC keeps giving me the runaround on moving his case to Jordan though I keep pointing out he is considered stateless being an Iraqi so he can switch embassies. I wish we had an interview. I put his paperwork in back in September of last year and we have been married since May of last year. We got a little delayed because he did the refugee processing for the United States so he couldn't send me his documents I needed to send to NVC with the visa application. That and he needed the new Iraqi passport which took 7 months to get sad.gif

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionhelp with embassy documents..
I am sorry I could not reply sooner. My husband didn't go through the embassy at all, but before he got approved for refugee I did have to send a DS-156 to NVC as well as two photos. I'm not sure why the embassy wants all these documents from you, but you case is a little different. I would recommend sending any documents they ask for. Hopefully all will go fine and your case will go smoothly.

For everyone else: She is not adjusting status. She is a refugee trying to bring her husband here. Her case would be bringing a family member to the US though at this time she is not a permanent resident until she is in the US for one year. The rules for her case are different than what you usually see for bringing spouses to the US.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionurgent question...please help
I think in your situation it will be easier to prove your relationship. You married your husband before you came to the United States and you are both from the same country.

Try to put together all the calling cards you both used so he can show those to the CO. Also show pictures of you two together. If you have sent him mail, letters, etc then those would be good to bring to the interview as well.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsGetting my hopes up and smashing them down again
Well, as my husband, he qualifies for refugee as an immediate family member of a US citizen, now so he is undergoing the interviews for that and they do all the Iraqi background checks in two to four weeks if it is for refugee. Also, the vermont service center is putting priority for approving Iraqi immigration cases. His being my husband also gave me more leverage with my congressman and when I wrote letters to the department of state. They started processing him as refugee within two weeks of me sending those letters (though I can't be for sure it helped and they wouldn't do it anyway).

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsGetting my hopes up and smashing them down again
You are the first K1 I have seen for Iraq. The rest of us were K3 or CR1. We all got approved in around a month or less through the vermont service center. I'm not sure why your case was sent to California unless it has to do with it being a K1 visa. I wish I could give you better advice, but everything I know to speed it up is for people who already got married. Good luck and if I can help please let me know.

If it makes you feel any better, my husband sent off for his before I found out. After the long wait at the embassy and the expense of paying for guartanteed delivery so it wouldn't get lost on its way into Iraq.

I think the main reason they don't take it is because Iraqi police are mostly corrupt, easily bribed, and don't keep good records. What is the point of a police record from there? All NVC said is that the police reports from Iraq are "Unavailable".

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsProcess
You don't need a police certificate for Iraq so don't worry about that. I confirmed it with a representative at NVC and through their website. If you fiance is living somewhere else he only needs a police certificate if he lived there for more than one year. As for background checks, it could take longer for an Iraq. You see they have put priority and sped up Iraqi background checks if you are married, but I don't that is the case if you are not married yet. My friend who went through your process before took one year to get her K1 visa though that was with immigration losing some of her paperwork and delaying her case.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsPassort Frustrations
I understand what you mean about the names. USCIS used my husband's name as it appears on his birth certificate. Then when the case was transferred to NVC they switched it to the name on his passport. Well you know Sadam made all the Iraqis start using their grandfather's names as their last names for their identification and my husband doesn't want that as his last name. I tried to argue that with NVC but they say all the paperwork must be from the name on the passport. We have ordered the new passport, which still isn't ready after 6 months and we have no idea if they will put his grandfather's name as his last name or if it will go back to his actual family name.

I wish you the best of luck with your case and completely sympathize with you.

You know the shots spouses abroad have to get, are those the shots that leave that circular mark on your arm?? "citizens shot" or whatever theyre called. Both of my parents have it and I was wondering if my spouse is gonna have that too. Did any spouses come home with that mark? Just out of curiousity

Does it look like the Chicken pox vaccination scar? If so, your spouse would not have to get that vaccination since that was stopped a long time ago.

if my husband can work as a doctor here then so can urs. just make sure he studies for his board exams and the higher u score the better chance of getting hired easily. my husband took his years ago and just passed and he had big problmes in finding a job let alone getting an interview but with lots of begging he finally got in at a local hospital. he will work hard for little pay but im sure probably more then he is making in his own country but the hard work will pay off later.

Donna A, my husband has finished medical school and is planning on taking the board exams when he gets here (after a little more studying of course). Do you have any advice that may help him? It would greatly be appreciated.

Middle East and North AfricaNeed info about embassy interview in Jordan
If he could get the refugee than he would be entitled to everything a refugee is entitled to. In fact, Iraqi refugees are recieving the longest period of assistance. There is some information out there on what that assistance is if you google "US refugee benifits". This site will give you a little information about the refugee process:

http://www.immihelp.com/gc/refugee.html#CasePresent

As for the priority, right now there have been a limited number of refugees that were referred to the United States. So family members of US citizens should not have to wait too long (inshallah). I sent his application about 5 weeks ago and we have already heard from them last week about them wanting to bring him in to talk to him. Inshallah the process will be quick. I will let you know more as I know something.

This is a seperate program especially for the US. I still don't know if it is faster than the spouse visa yet though. The program only started a few months ago. You can read this for more information:

I wish you good luck with your application and hope it is processed quickly. The waiting is definitely not easy.
