Oh great, my cat and my friends cat have started their late night fighting. Once I go upstairs to bed they will take it up there. Their favorite place to fight is on me while I am sleeping! I've had to kick them out several times and the cat hasn't been here but a few days.

LOL fighting or playing? Yeah, well, they want to spend time with you and you should be up because they are up, right? smile.gif

I think its just rough playing because usually they are fine together. As for me being up? God, I wish they didn't think that way. At least its not a work night. The other day I only got three hours sleep because of them (okay I was up late on VJ too that night, but still). If I wanted to be up all night with loud noise then I would prefer it be my child keeping me up (inshallah I will have a chance for that soon). No hope though, my own cat thinks I should be playing fetch with her when I am laying in bed asleep. She drops the toys right on me so if I don't wake up I find them on me in the morning, lol.

Oh, good grief. My husband puts a towel over his mouth and nose when he gets out of the shower so he will not get sick breathing in cooler air after he gets out. His mother will make him dress warm too. I told him I would be sick all the time then because I don't do either of those things, lol. He says you never know when you got sick because he weren't cautious. I tell him I will take my chances since I get sick less often then he does!

LOL! The A/c thing cracks me up. if A/C made you sick, then the whole US would be down and out every summer. I can't even imagine the towel over mouth/nose thing... and the strange part is that the logic you confronted him with will have no effect on the belief... that 99% of the 6 billion people in the world do NOT do this and do NOT get sick from not doing this is totally irrelevant smile.gif

I think with time I can get through to my husband. I felt him cracking with my logic, lol. He has no problem with the A/C though. He says Iraqis love air conditioning. Its apparently starting to catch on more in Jordan because Iraqis are asking for it though I don't know if that is true for sure or not.

Why can't these cats in my home be more like these two below?

yeah, well, I am cat sitting for a friend and both cats have taken to laying in the direct paths I walk to include the stairs. Then if I don't see them they scream at me for stepping on them, but does that stop them from laying there? No, they just give me that look like "watch where you are going". lol, sometimes I call my cat Amira instead of her name because she thinks she is a little princess, lol. Apparently I am a mere servent in her kingdom!

Yeah, they are the kings and queens of pure egocentrism! LOL! Mine can never understand WHY I don't want to watch them eat constantly. I mean, how boring is that? but they keep telling me to come over and when i get there they just start eating.

Ammar gave me his sickness. grrr. Sore-ish throat and runny nose, etc. He asked me how he could have given me that because he didn't think one could catch a runny nose (as if that is a specific disease and not a symptom). You know, as much as he claims to know about germ-theory of disease, I don't think it has really made it into the general population's psyche over there (thus the widely-calimed theories such as ice makes you ill, bare feet make you ill, no covers make you ill, etc). smile.gif

More kitties! I am having a real kitten-need at the moment. i remember how soft they are, how totally cute, how their little noses feel.. and of course the needle-teeth, biting the ####### out of your feet, scratching you as they take off like a maniac... but the cuteness over-rules it!

Good morning Julianna,Olivia,S and S,Nawal and everyone.
i went to the beach yesterday .and i really didn't enjoy it cause my love wasn't with me .
it seems like everywhere i go ,everything i see, every food i eat, every cloth i wear...reminds me of her.
it has been over 16 months since she was here last time and we have to wait another 8 or 9 months till we see each other again. it hurts so much to live away from your love.
some day when i will become the USA president i will change the immigration law so everyone who married or engaged to American citizen can move to USA just in one week .or maybe thats why i will never become the USA president LOL.
have a nice blessed weekend everyone rose.gif

I completely relate to you. I miss my husband so much and think of him in everything I do. We are going crazy with this waiting. I hope the time away from your love passes quickly.

A resume and a CV are two different things with different formats. Information can overlap, but a CV is your entire history of education and experience, publications, awards, scholarships, etc. I think most American jobs actually want a resume and not a CV.... a resume is usually 1-2 pages, right? I have a resume and I have a CV. My resume is like a bit over a page depending on if I add references to it. My CV is 6 pages.

I have resume software and books as well as resume paper I had bought for another family member and they never used it. I already told my husband to send his CV so I can work on converting information to the resume format. I wrote practice resumes and CVs before but never actually needed to send them so far. The jobs I've had didn't need them.

My husband already has a CV in english. His transcript from college is in english too. Basically we just have to convert his CV to a resume. I hadn't thought about doing it before he got here until the discussion on VJ. It really isn't a bad idea. As soon as he is approved I want him to start posting it so we can get started with him looking for work. There are some temp agencies around here too that may be helpful in the beginning. I'm thinking of sending him to those too. Everyone has such great ideas I wouldn't have thought of without their help. It is definitely worth listening to the advice given here from those who have been through this already.

Salaam everyone,
Hope this post finds you well. i just wanted to share the good news and ask for a little insight...
Habibi arrived 4 days ago via JFK... Alhamdulilah. He passed through immigration and customs no problem, got the work stamp, and everyone was really very nice to him. I am so thankful for that...

We are getting settled and i'm so happy he's here... but it's really hard. We are bickering all the time (mostly about $$ and his smoking, which is about his health and more $$), and i find myself asking if we will really be able to do this? It's not him... he's my Habeeb (except for the excessive smoking habit that somehow increased over the past year mad.gif ) (i don't mind a few here and there), it's me... i'm the one taking issue with everything, and i'm starting to doubt that i'm even cut out for marriage. It's only been 4 days... is this normal for 4 days? i thought we'd at least have "honeymoon period".

i'm quite upset and find myself sad a lot of the time... and that can't make anything easier for him... he traveled a million miles just to be with me.

I think you will be fine. you both have to learn each other and understand each other compleately. it takes alot of time maybe a year or two. right now you both never lived with each other and you have to learn each others temperment and also what is acceptable to you. You both are a team bottom line. when things bother you mainly his smoking make it tolorable by asking him to smoke outside. he wont quit smoking until he is ready. when he does offer the support.
as far as money he will worry about money until he gets a job. you know its his culture to take care of you and not you take care of him. he will tell you NO to things because, he feels it is not right to him right now. Just understand him and allow him to undertstand you.
take the edge off things by doing things you both enjoy. last piece of advice stop bickering..
if its not for the support of the TEAM then drop it .. pick your battles right.

Thats great advice any of us could use good.gif

My parent's live in Nashville smile.gif they say it's nice, but I've never been there.

I just moved to this area last October. I went out and saw a few things, but I keep telling myself I want to wait for my husband so we can experience it for the first time together. It never occured to me it would take so long for him to get here. I did find some good arabic stores and restaurants which is great. I went to the Opry Mills Mall and another mall (the name escapes me, lol). Really, I think it is nice so far. I just haven't had the mood to get out without my husband here sad.gif

Congrats on your SO's arrival.

Personally, I think too many people live in the dream, that "Once we are together" ... but when reality sets in ... sometimes it sucks! Life happens. It doesn't stop for moment cos you are finally together.

About the money issues, well something you both need to talk over. He will have to come to the realisation in the US you have work and everything is going downhill. Not the gold paved street they all think it is!

About smoking, again something you should have talked about. But surely after a few weeks he will come to the realisation that spending 8$ per pack isn't worth and will quit. I think it is easier to quit in the US, then in MENA. MENA smokes are cheaper and it is all around you. In the US, expensive and becoming if not already is a NO-NO!

So in the end, I would not worry ... have little patience but stand your ground! Enchallah you both get throu this rough patch!

Getting my husband to quit will not be as easy based on prices. You can find cigerettes here for under $3 if your not picky about the brand. Even the good brands are just over $3. I smoke too so I'm hoping we can try to quit together. I know if I quit now and then see him smoking then it will not last. I tried not to smoke when I went to see him and then he was smoking so much I couldn't handle not having one. My father is staying with me now too and he smokes. I don't think I'll ever get my father to quit. One thing that cuts back on the smoking is not allowing it in the house. I sit on the computer for hours and totall forget about it until I get up.

Dear HZ:

What makes it harder is if you are stretched thin to begin with (work, life, school) and find you have to do twice as much housework, cooking and then show them how do everything (like public transport, getting around, etc, etc). I admit freely I am totally exhausted! I worked late yesterday. When I got home he was relaxed after studying his engineering books all day. I get up to cook dinner and can barely stand I am so tired. He asks, "honey do you want to go for a walk?" My response, "No dear, I am a little tired tonight (in my mind I am saying "are you freaking crazy? Can't you see your wife is exhausted?").

To top if off, he forgets to take out the garbage and its smelling. So I HAVE TO TAKE IT OUT! I just lost my temper and yelled, "Can't you help at least with the little things?"

Being stretched thin and being overly tired makes you more suceptable to getting upset over the little things.

Just keep that in mind.

Tina, sometimes it is so hard...it reminds me of that saying - I had one nerve left and you just got on it. The only thought I can give is sometimes you just have to breathe it out and say, "God give me strength."

I'm fortunate that my DH does a lot around the house, but I've spoiled him with my cooking, and for a while, he expected these gourmet meals every day - as he wouldn't let me use anything frozen. I felt like I could do the Barefoot Contessa show from my kitchen as I was in there for an hour at least each night. I finally said, look I'm sorry, but there will be nights when all we're doing is having a frozen pizza or one from the pizza parlor around the corner. girlwerewolf2xn.gif He said he was cool with that.

I can so relate. My husband, at first, insisted on fresh everything. It really didn't take him long to realize that it just wasn't going to happen. I make him Melwi for his breakfast, which is a lot of work, but he hates all of the typical american breakfasts, so I do it. BUT I make a 2 week batch at a time and freeze it. He takes it out and nukes it. Its just the way it is, we don't have the luxury of me staying home, and if I did it they way he is used to there wouldn't be any time left for luxuries like, uh SLEEP! lol

I keep trying to explain to my husband that I don't have the time to cook everything fresh all the time. That I will do my best, but I can't be like his mom. Unfortunately his mom did work. She was a school teacher. Apparently she would get up at 5am each morning to make everyone breakfast and prep for lunch. Then she would come home on her lunch break to finish cooking it and serve it. After work she would start in on housework and cleaning. She had 7 kids to care for and yet she did everything from scratch. She even made her own tomatoe paste. I don't know how I can possibly compete with that!

IMPOSSIBLE!

Damn I hate it when they can show someone who is a freaking saint!

When I said to my husband I want work 2 or 3 days a week, he highlighted how his sister-in-law back in Iran is now working full time. BUT, I wonder if that is really true (the full-time bit). And then, more than likely working there and working here is like comparing apples to oranges as far as productivity is concerned.
Americans are the most over-worked nation on the planet.

I agree, I don't know how it is possible. There must be different work hours there, it is the only logical explanation. That and they probably don't live far from where they work as much as we do. That is the best guess I have.

how funny I used to have a myspace but when hubby saw all the "friends" I had i deleted it... than we had a netlog to "announce"we are together but a man got our pictures and took myhusband out and sent me my pics back at me in different photoshop ways.. hubby didn't like that so we canceled that.

just please make sure all your privacy stuff is up.. this man from Lebanon didnt let go.... and than onther person stole pics from my husband and made an account using his pics,,,

so long story short... VJ is it for me.

Yes, all the friends I had on myspace were a problem with my husband too. Some guys were harrassing me as well which was a problem. I stayed off any sites for awhile. Then I found one that no one posts pics which is good and now I have VJ. Saves a lot of problems for me to stay away from the big name sites like myspace.

Used to be on myspace, but I deleted the account. I don't use any of those anymore. It just got to be a hassle. I was such an addict that it was amazing how much more time I had to accomplish things when I no longer had the account.

But now have replaced one addiction for another - Myspace for VJ tongue.gif

I actually spend less time on VJ then I did on myspace, lol. I was so addicted to myspace you wouldn't believe it. There are days I hardly show up on VJ, but with myspace I spent at least a couple hours no matter how busy I was.

There should be a support group for former myspace addicts, lol. I swear I went through withdrawls though I've finally gotten over it and happy I got rid of the account now that it has been more than a year.

My current Honda only has about 44,000 miles on it, but there haven't been any problems. My last Honda had about 55,000 when I traded it in. I was being sneaky because the last one was a manual transmission and I had learned to drive manual on that car. I know I messed up the clutch, but I would have done that on any car with the way I drove in the beginning, lol. Later I was fine, but the damage was done. I could tell one of the gears was starting to get problems sometimes so I just traded it before it was obvious tongue.gif .

I was told that Hondas have bad engines? or was that transmissions? One or the other... but maybe theres not much truth to that? And there wasnt a specific kind of Honda stated ... just a general statement made to me... plus they are high theft around here... not my favorite pick!

I've had many friends with Hondas and never seen this. I've owned two Hondas myself and not seen any problems. I wonder where they got that from. Yet if you have problems with high theft of Hondas then maybe it is better to pick something else.

Soon I will be buying a newer vehical. I currently have a paid for '99 Kia SUV that Adam will be getting when he is able to drive on his own and Im looking into getting something smaller for myself now. Im very interested in a KIA car or a Toyota car. Does any one have any pros or cons with those kinds? Any suggestions?

I'd totally go with a Honda Civic - it gets about 30 -40 mpg. It keeps its value and runs forever normally.

I love mine. I get better gas mileage than everyone I know.

My cousin bought a brand new KIA a few years back. It fell apart within one year and the dealership refused to fix it. She had a hard time trading it in too. No one wanted it. Not sure if they got better since then.

I prefer Honda myself. Great reliability, not too expensive to fix and some of the best gas mileage around. There are probably other good models out there too. I've just stayed with Honda since 2002 and haven't bothered to check into anything else since I made the switch.
