PhilippinesGood source to learn tagalog
Speaking as someone whom has attempted to learn Tagalog for a few years now, Rosette Stone is OK, for vocabulary building, but by far the best way to learn Tagalog is to get a small phrase book, learn the basic phrases and build a small vocabulary of verbs, nouns, pronouns, etc... and to listen to Tagalog when your significant other speaks it in whatever context is happening and decipher it.

Learn the basic grammar rules and do not get caught up in the complexity of verb conjugations. There is a great deal of free content on the web, youtube, and iTunes podcast available to you for free, especially from the Peace Corps Philippines, "Language-Culture Through Cartoons" is insightful, along with their more scholarly publications.

Study, through printed material, learn to read basic Tagalog, do a lot of listening, and have basic interaction with other Tagalog speakers. Unless linguistically, your skills are far greater than mine, you will make mistakes in grammar, pronunciation, and word selection continually, and hopefully your significant other has the inclination to guide you on this undertaking. Last thought, she will have to teach you the slang, utot!

PM or email me and I can give you specifics on what I have bought that was a waste of time and money, and what was worth investing in, and possibly mail you some public domain materials I have, if they are not too large for email. Ingat.

I have been informed that it is best to send the Documents needed about one month before the interview and to include all evidence of an ongoing and bona fide relationship.

The Beneficiary's Documents should be current as possible also, and they should bring all the evidence they have to support the relationship up to the interview date.

I-797, Notice of Action. Approval Notice

I am reading the first paragraph of this letter and it states, "The above petition has been approved, and forwarded to the listed consulate. Please contact the consulate with any questions about visa issuance, or if you would like to forward the petition to a different consulate..."

I am assuming the Petition is going to the NVC first, correct?

I do not see the consulate listed on the document?

There is a Beneficiary number on Notice, Axxx xxx xxx, what is this used for?

Thanks,

Robert

December filers;
Everyday we are all one day closer to being with our loved one again. My fiancée and I tell ourselves this each day. At night we look at the stars and know the other has too! Say a prayer, make a wish, and know all these obstacles will make your goal that much sweeter. Be safe and good luck to a speedy approval all…
Best wishes,
Mary Cris and Robert

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 Visa Attorneys
I have nothing in my past that would prevent us from obtaining K1, and from the questions I have asked her, she has never been married, never been arrested, etc.
I have copies of my tax returns filed electronically thru HR Block, copies of my divorce degree, property settlement, etc. (One exception is on divorces papers, my Ex has legal custody, but my 2 children live with me currently, and I have claimed them on my taxes for last 3 years.) I just accepted a job only make $12/hour, but work for a municipality-city and with good job security and opportunities for advance. In 2005 my taxable income was 32K, in 2004 was 34K, and 2004 25K. But because of my household size and current earning, I received some government assistance, basically healthcare for kids, and some monthly food assistance. I have the letter from my employer, I have the letter from my bank’s branch manager, deposits for last year were around 26K, current balance around 2k. I get child support from Ex, whatever she can pay me, but it isn’t a court ordered thing, it is just that she helps us out when she can.

I am living for Manila on September 4th, and leaving for home on September 10th.

So some of my next questions would be:
1. Should I drop out of government assistance programs, I don’t want this to delay our obtaining K1
2. Do I claim my kids on information requested by our government?
3. What forms should I bring with me to Manila, to work on together while I am there?
4. What things will speed up our application process, and what common mistakes do people make that delay their approval?
5. What is the first step in the process, I think it is filing out the I-129 with payment and then waiting for a response?
6. What is the best proof to show our intent to marry, and that I was there in Philippines for her?
7. Any thing else I should know?

Is it just me, but I feel I am not marrying a citizen of another country, but the woman I chose to marry just happens to be from another country. Maybe I am a spoiled American, but come on, what right does my government have to keep us apart? She does not pose a threat to our national security!

Sorry, just PO’ed that I cannot just go and get my bride, I love her, she is the one!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionSingapore Police Certificate

Need Help,
My wife and I are doing a k3 visa. She has her interview on 22 June at the embassy in Manila. The only thing we are missing is the certificate of no criminal conviction from Singapore. They require a $50.00 bank draft in Singapore dollars and my wife is having a hard time getting one in the Philippines. It seems nobody deals with bank drafts. If anyone could help me in this matter, I would really be thankful. Does anyone know how long it takes to get the police certificate back from Singapore.

Thanks VJ

Hello,

I've done getting a police cert. in Singapore too and because i got hard time to get a bank draft in Philippines...my fiancee in US got 1 for me in his bank in Chicago and mail to me thru fed-ex and then i set to singapore thru fed-ex too...to make sure it is safe and will get thru to their office.

Goodluck!!!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAny Motel suggestions for my wife stay at in Manila during medical and interview?

How can I get my fiancée a room without a credit card to present at check-in?

Does anyone have experience with this situation?

I think I would rather return to the Philippines to fly back with her rather than go for the interview and or medical.

What is the best way to get her a room for her physical and interview without being physically present in Philippines and with out a credit card to present at check in.

Thanks in advance!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAny Motel suggestions for my wife stay at in Manila during medical and interview?
I know we are a long way from the medical exam and interview, but my question is this.

Who has experience with booking a room and having their fiancée check in with out a credit card? I have visited Manila twice, once I got the hotel to allow my fiancée to check in ahead of me after sending them a letter and copy of credit card  and the other time I couldn’t get the hotel to allow her to check in before me.

Who has experience with setting up their fiancée/wife in one of these hotels near St. Luke’s and US Embassy and paying for it on their end?

Thanks in advance…

No luck with ours yet... But it's ok... June interview won't be too bad. I'm so happy for you my fellow Pinays!

On the 14th we also got a response from the NVC as to the status of our case, it has been forwarded to the Manila Embassy leaving on March 7th. We missed May but June would still be better than what we were expecting as far as our possible timeline. Three months is better than four! It seems you two and us are pretty close on the timelines? Good luck!

I am requesting your comments and guidance about a question I have on surnames in the Philippines on the DS 156 form.

Questions 18 (Other Surnames) and 19 (Other First and Middle Names Used).

Since the last name of the mother becomes the part of the name of the child, should you list the mother's surname in question 18 or 19 for your fiancée?

(Yes I used the search feature, most the results were about married surnames, and hits on name checks, LOL, so any clarification would be appreciated).

Thanks,

Robert

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionManila Embassy Interview
The NVC issued us a MNL number and has forwarded our petition to the US Embassy in Manila on March 7th.

My question is how can I track our petition's process?

What are anyone's thoughts on our projected timeline?

Also, if I wish to be there for the interview and our flight back to US, how many days should I plan on being in the Philippines?

Finally, what would be the best way to purchase her flight back to US?

I do not mean to be presumptuous of our approval; I am only looking forward and thinking of our options.

Thanks in advance for you thoughts.

Respectfully,

Robert
