K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsOur K1 interview experience
Hi everyone biggrin.gif Couldn´t decide in which thread to put the info first cuz people wanna hear about it at different threads so I decided to write this and then tell them about it biggrin.gif
So I gathered all the needed stuff and i had a 5kg backpack with me and a 5kg bag that contained such a huge scrapbook lol. (10kg = 22lbs tongue.gif)
Got to the Embassy half an hour earlier than I was supposed to. There was noone else waiting there though so they started doing me. The prescreener lady took all the necessary documents from me. The ones they mentioned in Packet 3 - 2x DS-156, OF-156K, medical, my intent to marry, payment receipt, copy of my birth certificate, criminal records and I-134. I think that´s about it. She didn´t ask for all the 10kg lol tongue.gif And I went to sit down and was sitting there alone for like 20-30mins while they were checking it I guess. Then the Conzul called me. She asked if I spoke English and took my fingerprints. Then started asking about how we met, how or where we met in person, asked about when different things happened, asked about Scott´s job, asked questions about co-sponsor, how many times I visited him in USA and for how long and what I did there, etc. She always asked some additional questions cuz she was interested in more details. She was very nice and then she said we get the visa but I should come back for it the following day so they can print it out. So I said thank you and left smile.gif
I think the interview itself took about another 20 mins or so cuz I spent an hour at the Embassy.
She didn´t wanna see any of the evidence or anything else I had with me. But better take 10kg with me and be safe than sorry smile.gif
So today I went back to pick up the secret brown (yellow) envelope that I can´t open and the passport. They told me the K1 visa was valid for 6 months and it´s for 1 entry and we have to get married within 3 months.
Also got a small surprise lol. Well at least it was a surprise for me cuz I haven´t heard of it here on vj before so I dunno if it´s normal. But they cancelled my tourist visa lol. Placed a stamp over it. On one hand it makes sense cuz when you have K1 you are expected to go there and use it and get married, but then on the other hand the K1 IS valid for 6 months so if someone has some other plans and is planning to get married later than sooner and still wants to visit their SO before going to stay for good then they can´t. Or is it just me or is that a standard procedure?
Anyways smile.gif We are very happy that we got it and also cuz we don´t have to postpone our wedding date so things are looking good right now smile.gif
Thanks to everyone who has been supportive and good luck to all of you good.gif biggrin.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportsdepressing depressing depressing
I don´t really understand how it´s meant with the exchange rate. She buys a ticket for dollars so she doesn´t need to exchange money for that and you can pay stuff in UK with pounds so noone has to exchange anything. Or am I missing something?
Personally if I were you I´d be pretty sure that I was gonna be turned away at the POE which I would never like to go through but that´s just me sometimes I am too suspicious about things lol. But I am not you and you are not me so they might still let you in. I wouldn´t risk it though I think.
It doesn´t even occur to me that Xmas is so soon this year anyways. So much excitement going on these days that Xmas is just kind of passing by me lol. We spent last Xmas together and spent a lot of time together this year. And in Nov/Dec Scott was visiting here and left like a week ago and we will be together in a month I think. So not pushing Xmas this year. I wouldn´t even pay the crazy amount of money they ask for some Xmas plane tickets. And also these days when Xmas in stores start almost in September it feels like it´s been Xmas for a couple of months already. And we have been to some stores and look at crazy things lol. Besides we are always online together so we are spending everything together anyways.
If you decide to go I wish you good luck and have fun good.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWhat is it about Cuba?
QUOTE (ischia @ Oct 2 2007, 11:04 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
You Are right! Cubans are getting approved very quickly, some in just days. I have posted a thread explaining my understandings as to why the quick approval. Cuban Fiance(e)s are not treated as political gesture....Your analogy of "sort of asylum" is not true...K-1 applicants are treated the same as any other applicant from any other country. The processes are just the same, if not a bit more problematic as the Cuban government tries to make it more costly and difficult for any cuban to leave.

What do you mean by saying K1 applicants (you mean the ones from Cuba?) are treated the same as any other applicant from any other country?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWhat is it about Cuba?
QUOTE (babblesgirl @ Oct 2 2007, 12:03 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I read somewhere on here that the reason Cubans are priority processed is that it takes a long time for them to receive an interview in Switzerland. I'm not sure whether this is a fact, but if you do a timeline search (there are only 34 Cuban K1 applications within the VJ timeline data) the average no of days for the entire process is between 175 and 382 days - with CSC averaging 320 days.

By contrast, the average processing for a UK beneficiary is 143 to 215 days and they don't receive priority processing before receiving an NOA2.
Here's some more (chosen fairly randomly):

Canada 169-237 days
China 233-322 days
Mexico 146-206 days
Turkey 182-208 days
Vietnam 225-286 days

This is not a comprehensive analysis of the data, data skewing could be caused by the total number of applications or incomplete timelines but on balance it looks pretty fair to me. Cubans get processed faster in the early stages but typically end up waiting longer for the whole process to complete.

Plus, I am just guessing here, but I imagine it also causes some logistical and planning issues for the Cuban to get to Switzerland.

That´s true...no fun really having the Embassy on the other side of the world...on the other hand I remember snowangel (I hope I am not mistaken) talking about how poorely they treat people in US Embassy in Egypt... sometimes they don´t receive their passport with visas for another 3, 4, 5, 10 months after the interview...so I dunno...think it would just be fair to say how things are and not to keep saying they take petitions as they come..

Hi everyone, I have noticed when someone has the country Cuba, they have a consulate in Switzerland. Is that correct? And June filers have already been approved and got their NOA2. Some within like 12 days and some within 2 months or so. It´s not that I don´t wish that for them that´s not true. I wish them all good luck and wish everyone´s process could go so fast good.gif Just didn´t know if it was correct or a typo or what was going on. Thanks a lot for an info I appreciate it smile.gif

Seriously...it appeared like I had a month to deal with things here before flying but it´s not like that. Evidence Question!

I am getting the I-134 Affadavit of Support and all the evidence of our continued relationship to take to Matthew at Christmas. I am wondering how many emails to print off?? I have around 1200 emails, logs of daily phone records for 9 months, passport entry stamps/flight itineraries/boarding passes for 7 visits in the last 9 months. I am sending all of the flight info from visits with copies of the passport entry stamps, and printing off phone records from my vonage account, so how many emails do I need?? also including about a dozen photos of us together. anything else??

for the I-134 I have a letter from my bank verifying account in good status and current account balances, date opened etc. A letter from my employer verifying employment, salary, date of hire, permanent full time status and last 4 months of pay stubs. Copies of tax returns and W-2's for 2004, 2005 and 2006. am I missing anything??

I am also including just for giggles copies of my passport id page, birth certificate, divorce decree from 1st marriage, NOA1 and NOA2, NVC receipt letter, and a new letter of intent to marry.

please review this list and make any suggestions! I am so nervous putting this last packet of info together for the interview my hand has been shaking! I just don't want to get it wrong!!!!

Thanks,
Sara

Just make a selection of the emails I guess....as for me they didnt wanna see any evidence and I spent so much time putting it all together good.gif
