Philippines	Pinoy RN's who are also US-RN's	Hi all! It's been a while since I last posted here, and now I'm back! LOL! I just recently took my NCLEX last month and passed it. Now, I'm getting ready to look for a job. Hope I could get one soon. However, I have some questions for those who had their 1st time looking for a job. Can you gimme some tips? I had worked as a nurse after I passed my local boards. Though, I was only hired for 9 months and I was directly hired. I worked on a hospital that specializes labor and delivery though I worked more as a ward nurse. So, I only assist the midwife during the delivery. Now, it's been more than a year since I was unemployed. I'm kinda having a hard time remembering certain nursing skills and techniques. Does your employer orient and train an incoming employee for several months? If yes, for how long? Do you still get paid for it? What is a sign-on bonus? Is that a contract? If yes, what's a good sign-on bonus? What is the area you are currently working on? Are you on a specialty nursing? Do potential employers care how long you were out of school and unemployed? I usually get nervous during personal interviews, can you suggest anything that might divert my nervousness? Is getting into an nursing agency better than just submitting your application to different hospitals? Is getting certified for BLS/AED important prior to applying? Philippines	Pinay nurses as USRN's	Hello all! It's been 2 months since my last post. It's amazing how much it changed here in VJ in 2 months. It took a while for me to figure out how to post. LOL! Anyways, this topic is for all Pinay nurses out there who are here in the US working as RN's. I have a couple of questions for you guys out there. I recently got offered a position in a LTC facility this month. Though I have mixed emotions regarding the position and the feeling that I'm back in the nursing field. I took a year off for myself to adjust my life here at the same time to get licensed. It seems overwhelming and I just don't know what to expect. With your current job, how was your orientation phase? I did asked the recruiter on how long the orientation phase is, but she told me that it totally depends on the employee. They don't wanna pressure new employees as we are all different and not a lot of people catch up with a snap of a finger. So, how many months did it took you to learn everything? How was your relationship with your co-workers? I get anxious to people of higher authority---people that speaks the English language well. I speak the language good but sometimes, my nerves get the best of me and I stutter. Really, I think it's embarassing. Makes me feel soo little of myself, but I'm always trying. LTC facility is new to me. My previous working experiences were in Labor and Delivery as well as Peds. So, its typically a different world. I haven't picked a specialty yet though I am open on trying different things to figure out if this is fit for me. Can you gimme some advices with regards on how to establish that trust and rapport with your clients? How do you greet them? Lastly, I am scared of committing errors that may endanger my patient's lives. I know that we are not perfect and committing mistakes helps us learn. How do you avoid these? Philippines	Dating Scam Stories	hi I have read that your wife fortunately passed the RN nCLEX exam,I am a RN nurse in the Philippines and planning to take Nclex exam here in Arkansas.Did your wife undergo such nursing review lesson? or just have nursing books that been reviewed by herself? how much did you pay to take her nclex exam? what about CGFNS/ IELTS/ TOFEL exam?did she take any of this text aside from NCLEx prior to working as US-RN? I did self-review with good nursing textbooks purchased at Barnes and Nobles. If they're too pricey, I would drop by the store every weekend and answer 200 Q&A's in the store. We paid $200 for testing fee and couple of bucks for test application. I didn't took any CGFNS nor TOEFL exams since the state that I registered for didn't require it. Each state BON's have different pre-requisites. I applied for Vermont BON first since it was quicker and less requirements, then when I passed, I had my license endorsed to Pennsylvania. I was required to have a Credential Evaluation done by the CGFNS to qualify for license endorsement which costs about $500. Good Luck on your upcoming NCLEX exam! Philippines	Does your wife think the US is too cold ?	Wife was depressed for 5 months after she arrived here in PA. She says that the weather outside is depressing, she arrived around winter. At first, she loved the snow, later on, she got sick of it. It no longer fascinates her. Especially when it gets windy here in the mountains. One day, she got swept off when a strong wind hit her at the sidewalk. I think it was funny but she got really pissed with it and complained about the weather all day long. Now, that she's close to a year here, I think she already had adjusted. She doesn't complain that much but still hate to bundle up when its winter. She said it makes her look more fat. But I don't think so. I guess, we'll never understand women at all. She'll be fine. Philippines	Dual Citizenship and Petitioning Father	Hi! Can someone direct me which forum I could look up for info regarding Dual Citizenship and petitioning my dad after becoming a USC? My PI passport will be expiring in August and I'm currently in the process of my N400 awaiting interview which most likely will be scheduled sometime next month or around August, I was wondering how soon can I apply for a US passport? With my soon-to-be expired PI passport, is it ok not to renew it since I'll be getting a US passport anyways? Lastly, pls direct me to a forum that assists USCs to petition for family members. I am looking for time frames and processing times if I ever have to petition my dad after becoming a USC. Sorry for the long post. Hope someone can help me out. Philippines	What's behind your display name?	Wellllllll, my Honey asked me to explain, but the name was her idea. We are Doug (me) and Vanessa (her). The name Honeybadger actually means two different things to us. While watching the National Geographic channel one night we saw a show that talked about the "Honey Badger" in Africa. It is a ferocious little beast that is very ugly and lives in a burrow in the ground. The only good quality about this little guy is that he is EXTREMELY protective of his family, often fighting off predators twice his size & strength and usually winning just cause he is so tenacious. Honey (Vanessa) decided that I was like the Badger in the way that I protect my family. You can treat me badly but never mess with my family! The second meaning was a combination of the name she calls me (Badger) and what I call her (Honey). Since there really is a "Honey Badger" it seemed appropriate to her, since it defines both of us.
