IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresinterview schedule
QUOTE (kace @ Jan 10 2009, 08:41 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
does anyone know if we can call the us embassy to set the interview for cr1 or do we need to wait for NVC to set the date? tnx for any info...!

If your case is "complete" @ NVC, they should be scheduling your interview date within the next couple of months... you can keep calling them and reminding them nicely that you are there waiting, and I think it is 8 weeks after case complete date, you can call and discuss the delay in your interview... I have found the nicer I am to the operators on the other end, the more willing they are to give me info! Take care and Good Luck!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAny August Filers???
I sent I-130 in on June 30 to Chicago lockbox, it was rec'd July 3rd, and approved Aug 18 from CSC... Sent to NVC on that day--Keep your fingers crossed for us too!!! They also returned the I-129 I had sent in the previous week as well, because my I-130 is no longer pending. We don't have the visa or the gc yet, but God is on our side! Of that I am CERTAIN!!!--Much LUCK KIDDO! Stay as positive as you can with it all!-Amy

my interview will be Feb 5th at 1:30 pm, i m just wondering, coz in the letter they write request for initial interview, there is another interview after?

also i don t receive an approved for my I130?

What is your embassy--- it is different through out the world- or it can be as I have read here... I think they know during your first interview if you are getting the visa or no... if they have extra questions tho, they can request you to return.. I'm sure it will be fine!-- Good luch- that's right around the corner!

Hi everyone, I'm new to this site.
I was just wondering if anyone can share with me the whole wait time. I mailed my petition on Nov 21, 2008. It was sent to CSC. Recieved NOA Dec. 1, 2008. All this is so confusing for me.

Thanks, Fatimah

*husband is from Egypt*

HI FATIMAH! Ahlahn! We welcome all those looking for answers to questions pertaining to our MENA region! There have been several people here who's SOs are from Egypt- Mine is from Jordan... We started our Journey (I mailed I-130 pkt in On June 30- it was recd at CSC on July 3, you can check out my time line-- It seems to be pretty similar so far for everyone from Egypt as well.) I can tell you from start to finish looks like between 7-10 months, depending unfortunately mostly on YOU! I had two "RFE's" from the NVC- that were really STUIPD mistakes! If it asks for "orginal certificates" SEND ORIGINALS!!! And don't forget to sign date and if there is a co-sponsor have them also sign and date EVERYTHING and don't forget to put it in the envelope! LOL-- those are my dumb mistakes with this whole process! But we have been at it since July '08 and hubby has his interview FINALLY INSHA'ALLAH on Feb 18.. we're almost there!!!! Good luck on your journey, and drop a line any time! TTFN!--Amy

Still wishing anyone from Amman embassy could tell me if there are anymore fees at the time of interview? Hubby is getting impatient, I told him I am pretty sure I paid everything, BUT I can't seem to convince him- if someone who's already interviewed could tell me anything that would be great! Hi MENA!!! Beautiful Sunday to you all-- well I guess in some instances Monday! --- OK question??? Does anyone know what I can do about this situation?? Our case is complete at NVC- we sent originals of EVERYTHING they asked for-- along with copies so that originals could be returned at the time of interview-- Think we may need those forms at some point down the road and they are MUCH MUCH easier to get here than they are in Jordan... OK so here is my dilema, in the letter we recieved from NVC our interview letter(pkt #4) it states that they have all the needed paperwork to conduct the interview EXCEPT the Marriage Certificate... we had an RFE on the marriage certificate, and I had hubby send me the one copy in Arabic we had... Do you suppose we should get another one??? It is CRAZY because I have copies of the one we sent to them!?! I am a lil worried. Told hubby to go see if he could get another, but am not sure how willing they will be to give it? UGH!?! Why does NVC do this to people?! I will be calling them Monday, but I really am concerned about the fact that we may have a marriage certificate floating around out there somewhere?! That is pretty PII!!! In anycase- any advise or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated...-Amy wacko.gif

ahlan! What a crazy thing... see you are not much different than the rest of us. It took me a while to find VJ, and once I did, everything seemed to start falling into place! My case is slightly different than yours.. My hubby is in Jordan, I flew there twice over the summer-2008 and we were married my first trip. June 3, 2008. He is 6 years younger than I am. I have three kiddos from a previous marriage, and was very worried about the reaction of their father, and them! BUt they love my husband and can't wait to meet him in real life! Video/web chats can't actually show all the love one has for another!

I was too hoping for miracles for our case, with a NVC case complete on Dec 3, Thought MAYBE we would get into a Jan interview crying.gif didn't happen! I spent a lot of time crying on Christmas, for other reasons too, but mostly I missed the love of my life.

Honestly I think the tears are a good thing. It makes you appreciate every second with the one you love! So hang in there, we are all here for ya kiddo! Pm me if you wanna chat.. I actually spent some time in Cairo this summer with my hubby! Not a LONG time, but a few days--I wish we could have stayed there longer! In any case take care and Insha'allah you will be reunited with your habibi soon!--Amy

Vitamis no kidding! I took vitamins with me for hubby, and he said what is this?- I told him and even made sure he read the labels to make sure there was not jelatin in anything! He said "ok- when I feel bad, so I will take" I said --"NO you take every day and will not feel bad in the first place!" He just looked at me in disbelief, but he had taken them all by the time I got home, and wishes it didn't cost so much to ship more-- one challenge out of the way!

Middle East and North AfricaThe MENA Sultan's Kitchen Cookbook
QUOTE (amal @ Oct 21 2008, 08:44 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
The recipes are coming along well. I am not sure who did and who didn't post a copyrighted recipe. What I've done so far is post EXACTLY what was posted in the pinned thread, edit spelling errors (a couple I wasn't sure so I left them exactly as they were), put quotes on some items that the poster originally stated, put the date the recipe was originally posted, and leave the name of the book/chef the recipe was taken from. I think that should be ok, don't you all think?
So far it is only something I'm doing for the MENA forum but I am including all the recipes that were submitted...coz they are recipes that the MENA girls have tried, used, and recommended. I think they might be interesting gifts for relatives and/or co-workers who are interested in MENA recipes and/or other tried and true recipes from ur friends. I've got about 50 or so recipes copied down so far and have only gotten to page 30 of Sultan's Kitchen.

In this thread, I'm looking for ideas for names for the cookbook. I'd like to keep it VJ related coz this is where it began. So far, I've thought about...
Sultan's Kitchen
VJ's MENA Cookbook - Direct from the Sultan's Kitchen
Sultan's Kitchen - A taste of ME/NA
Sultan's Pocket Recipes

These are just some ideas. Please help me out to find the most fun name for our MENA cookbook.

I'd also like to add that I will be adding recipes up until about the 1st week of November so if you have a recipe you want to add, please do so ASAP so I can get it into the book. Whatever recipes you all use a lot in ur homes will be accepted. ME/NA type recipes are, of course, preferred since it IS a MENA cookbook (for the most part)

If you want to quote a recipe from somewhere, please leave the information on who/what/where you got the recipe so credit can be given where credit is due.

I will be using the VJ screen name of the person that posted the recipe AND the date of which it was posted. If you do not want your VJ name used, please let me know so I can change ur name to "unknown".

If you know some ppl that used to play in MENA and are not regular posters anymore, feel free to contact them and see if they'd be interested in a copy as well. I will be needing addresses too but not right now. I'll wait until I'm a bit further with the project before I take that information.

ok see... now that I have this fabulous cook book-- I'm after additional information! LOL-- When hubby and I were in Egypt, we went to a restraunt that served this "Famous Egyptian pasta" stuff... It had macaroni noodles, lentils, tomato sauce, I beleive semonila??? and those french fried onions... it was actually VERY good, but I don't know the name of it. I could punt and see if I got a home run, but I doubt I'd get the same results!!! HELP Please My MENA friends and family!--Thanks---Amy

What price would you all feel is fair? $25? $20? 15?

Ok, that is enough from me for now. leave any feedback here and I'll do my best to consider every recommendation.

Thanks everyone!

Kind of off topic, but my husband still laughs at me when I pull out a written recipe. He's got it all up in his head -- I don't think I've ever seen him read a recipe, and I'm sure his mom doesn't. But I like the security of having it in front of me so I don't forget anything, although I have memorized some of my husband's favorites. I also really enjoy trying new recipes, especially when friends recommend them.

Late last night, my husband started digging in the fridge. I asked him if he was going to cook something, and he said, "Oh, no." I saw him pull out the leftover turkey and start slicing a tomato, so I thought he'd show up on the sofa with a sandwich. Next thing I know, I hear the skillet sizzling, and a few minutes later, he comes in with a yummy concoction of turkey, eggs, jalapenos, olives, tomatoes, spices, and I don't know what else. But apparently that didn't count as cooking. rolleyes.gif

That is too funny! Well, you know a lot of the things that are prepared in MENA are just whatever is in the cupboard, and a lil of finger crossing for the results.. I have learned--I AM DEFINATELY NOT AN EXPERT--that some of the strangest combinations in my mind come out to be the most terrific and tasty treats/meals while I am there! Then I get grumpy once I am home, because I don't remember EXACTLY what we ate for this meal or that?! I REALLY REALLY LOVE the lamb sandwiches rolled up in the flat bread thinggy and sliced just so! Makes my mouth water just thinking about it-- This cook book was a terrific idea, and don't worry if you need to take a recipie out, literacy never hurt anyone right?! lol star_smile.gif -Amy

Going for a mammogram at 2, then to the library. Whoo hoo. lol. I found this AWESOME site to get book ideas from. www.librarything.com . It has tons of reviews from real people about the books and you get recommendations based on the books you place in your virtual library. I liken it to netflix where the more movies you rate, the better the recommendations are for the next round of movies you want to rent. Anyhoo I am getting A Fine Balance by Rohington Mistry and A History of the Arab Peoples by Albert Hourani. I can't wait! I sooooo need a good book to read. I also want to get The Lions of Lucerne by Brad Thor. He's similar to Brian Haig I guess though I've never read anything by him. I have a bag that I've gathered together for when I go to the doctor's office or the hospital. I seem to be going weekly lately with different health issues that I have so I like to bring along this bag with different books, snacks, drinks, tissues, catalogs. I think Brad Thor will replace Brian Haig in my doctor's office bag. smile.gif

I didn't want him to think I was really trying to mess with his religion! I love him and his family toooo much to blunder into another error that could pose serious issues not just for them, but between my family as a whole!

So Yeah-- its interesting the things you gotta watchout for!

we're not that picky lol. We do our absolute best to check the packaging that it doesn't show any known pork products. We don't go around making excuses to eat pork, I promise!!! but it's just that we know that god knows we do our best to check and that is as good as we can do. We don't have the time to call on every product we consume.

I know that u have to be careful with marshmallows. Be careful with the hot dogs and sausages coz they're oftentimes cased in pork intestines but it's not written on the label.

My husband is not picky about going out to eat as long as we don't physically order pork. I do know others though whose husbands refuse to eat take-out just because there's a chance that pork may have been cooked on or near the place the beef and/or chicken was cooked or prepared..OR the worry that they could use the same utensils to prepare them. It's all really up to the non-pork eater and their preferences. Definitely talk to him about how he feels. Explain the ways restaurants prepare things and there are codes and what not and just see how he feels. Good Luck!

OH, and anything that has gelatin...is not ok. Gelatin (at least from what I've read) is made from pork.

Not all Gelatin is made from pork. Starbursts candies for instance--AND I HAVE CALLED M&M&Mars,-- are made from beef gelatin, and many things can have chicken gelatin in them, but STAY AWAY FROM STARBURSTS JELLY BEANS! So if you're worried about it, then call about the type of gelatin. It would be nice if the different manufacturers would clairify, and WHY if the whole line of products is already made with beef gelatin, did they decide it necessary to make something with PORK?! UGH!

Have a GREAT week MENA! The sooner the weekend is over the closer we are to our actual interview date!!! 16 Jordanian days and counting!!! AHHHHH! wacko.gif

I'm glad I'm not the only one not watching the game, lol. Good luck on the interview. It is getting so close!!!

Thanks Sus... Man--the waiting is begining to be agonizing tho! He is a wreck he's so nervous-I just keep telling him, "Habibi, you have x number of days to prepare, don't save it all up till the last two or three days, or week even! Look things over a little at a time, and STOP worrying! You are making me nervous!"

I know thousands of people get their visa's every day, and there is no reason we should be ANY different! Its still nerve wracking! Pray for us PLEASE!!!!! Thanks to all my MENA friends watching the suprebowl or not, without these forums to check into I'd be even worse! You all help to put my mind at ease!--Amy
