K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJanuary filers VSC lottery, who gets the jackpot next?
Thanks for all the congratulations smile.gif Would have posted sooner, but we did a computer free weekend!!! Nope, we didn't go anywhere, because of my work -- we're going to take a 3 day trip to the North Carolina outer banks this coming weekend though.

The reverend did a wonderful little service, instead of the typical civil kind ... so it wasn't so bad. Although we were both nervous once it started ... and it probably didn't help having my mother standing behind Stephen by a few feet, making funny faces at me!!!! biggrin.gif Overall, it was a nice little service and Duke Gardens was very pretty. Now we are trying to gather everything for AOS, etc.

Hope everyone had a good weekend!!!

Congratulations Nicole!!! Hopefully Stephen and I will have everything we need to file before the end of this month.

6 hours and counting until we are "legally" married ... and to our surprise, neither one of us is the least bit nervous!!!!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!!!!!!!

Can't wait to see your gown Amanda.. but I can't wait more to see all of you in your wedding dress. kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif

I can't wait to see it too!!! The one I tried on had black accents, not navy blue, so it will be nice to see it finally in navy -- I did see a similar dress by the same designer with navy, so I know it will be just right!!!

I just picked up a "casual" dress for our civil service .... and the countdown is on .... 2 days, 1 hour until we have our civil ceremony. We are going to Duke Gardens and the reverend who is performing our family ceremony/vow renewal is going to take care of our civil. He suggested the gazebo at Duke Gardens -- and hey, no admission charge to just go in, and have the quick legal ceremony smile.gif

Time for bridal bootcamp!!!

I hear ya there ... I was lucky too, mine fit me quite well, but needs just a bit of alterations!!! I'm going to pick it up next week, but won't have the alterations done until August.

OK, so yesterday was of no help. The Raleigh-Durham USCIS local office just opened in the last month, they are barely up and running, and the employees barely trained. They didn't even listen to what we were saying, and told us to get SSN we'd have to file EAD (which we already knew to file EAD after marriage). So they went round and round with us, and then gave us a big folder full of information (stuff we already had) and said that we were wrong and he couldn't get a SSN until after EAD (which isn't correct). Even told them we weren't trying to get it for work, we just want to add him to the bank account and health insurance, etc. and they just wouldn't listen, said he had to have EAD. I figured they wouldn't be any help, and they were not. We went there to find out why he wasn't in the SAVE system, which is USCIS responsibility, if not in the SAVE system, no SSN can be issued (or you can have SSA file an inquiry to manually verify the entry, etc., which takes 4-6 weeks to process -- which we opted not to do!)

So I obviously had nothing to do at work, and made a few phone calls, also not helpful!!! Every agency immediately says, "Not our responsibility, call [fill-in-the-blank]" (for any other government agency). Well after a few of those answers I hung it up for the day. This morning I decided to call the main DHS line, and I got a helpful operator who told me that if he wasn't in the SAVE system yet, that I need to speak to someone at Customs & Border Patrol. He patched me through and I was on hold about 15 minutes and then got a helpful woman who gave me the phone number to the Raleigh-Durham CBP office and name of the department I needed to speak to and a person's name. I called shortly after that, got a lovely man who was very helpful. Since we only live about 5 minutes from the airport, I offered to come down to the office with Stephen. He said that would be great. So we went an hour later. He was very helpful, looked up Stephen's I-94, confirmed it wasn't in the system yet. Explained since Raleigh-Durham was a smaller airport, that it might take longer for the I-94 to be processed, etc. But he had us fill out another I-94, and changed the number on it to match Stephen's entry I-94 and submitted it today for entry into the system. And suggested we wait 1 more week to check again. Although he didn't really do much or give us any definite answers, he has been the most helpful person we have come across thus far. So we learned, don't enter through an airport that has only 1 international flight a day ... haha!!

It's not really slowing us down any, just a little frustrating .... so Gaye, if you are flying into RDU as your POE, beware, it might be a little slower for things to get moving smile.gif

We are going to the courthouse tomorrow to get our marriage license!! Yay! And we are planning for a June 20th civil service .... *fingers crossed*

OH GOLLY! I hope you get SSN# for Stephen soon. I will be arriving @ NC Sept. 4 and we plan to get married Oct. 3.. i do hope there will be enough time for me to get the SSN and then apply for license before then.

Good luck to you and Stephen, I hope they won't keep you waiting too long.

So the SSA gave us the number to USCIS - who can't help at this stage, once they approve the petition they no longer have case status updated (which I knew, but took the sheet the woman gave us for USCIS). I figured we would need to contact the local USCIS office (not the 800 number they gave us). Anyhow, got a helpful woman at the 800 number for USCIS and she indicated we would need to goto the local office (thank goodness the Raleigh/Durham office just opened last month, otherwise would have to drive to Charlotte!). Anyhow, we went onto the Infopass site, to set-up an appointment, not the most user friendly site to set up an appointment, but we found a way through. And we figured it would be a week or more for an appointment ... but to our amazement, we were able to make an appointment for 8:45AM tomorrow morning ... yay!!! So we are going to "kick some butt" tomorrow to find out why he isn't in the system yet. The woman at the 800 number said he should have been entered by the next business day after he entered the US! Hahahaha ... didn't happen!!!!

Gaye, I'll let you know how things go, at least our experiences might help you and Ricky move along faster! smile.gif

Ty amanda, i hope so too, really dont want to start the visa process over again to bring him here.

I'm sure everything will turn out fine.

On a side note for us ... we went to the Social Security Administration today (11 business days, 16 days) since Stephen arrived. We got there before they opened, we got ticket #207 (#8 in line). So we waited 20 minutes outside the building, then got the number, then waited another 15-20 minutes, got up to the window, hand over the application, and his passport with visa & I-94 in it. We sit there quietly for a few minutes and she then looks up and says, sorry, he's not in the system, we'll have to file paperwork with DHS/INS to find his file. "How long will that take?" --- 4-6 weeks .... Umm, NOT! North Carolina requires a SSN# to get married (he can sign a waiver as a last resort)... but he prefers to have the SSN#, because without it, the license will take longer. So instead, we took the SSN# application back, and she gave us a phone number to INS, to find out where his file is, and perhaps we can go back in a week to apply.

Every state is different ... even all the SSA offices are different .... let the waiting continue ohmy.gif unsure.gif

Well, I bought a dress for my courthouse wedding (in July)...if anyone has ever met me in person, I hardly ever wear skirts or dresses, so the fact that I bought a dress signifies a special occasion...

Four weeks from today, Darren comes home...I need to start scrubbing the apartment from top to bottom; I want it to be sparkling when he gets here!!!

It will be here before you know it Dawn. I'm still looking for a dress for our civil ceremony. We aren't doing it at the courthouse, the minister who is doing our family wedding in September, is also doing our civil one -- we just have to decide here at the house, or some park, or on the lake, etc.

Hope the time passes quickly so you can be together!!!

hello guys, i miss all of you.. we had our medical tuesday last week but my kids had to undergo skin test and we were asked to come back thursday. unfortunately the skin test was positive for both of them so they were asked to undergo xray which meant another day of anxiety and waiting for result. Thank God the xray result was negative and they were then given immunization shots last friday and was declared A-OK for interview.... so we are off for interview two days from now. smile.gif

We are ok here only downside is i don't have access to internet whenever i want to, i still need to go to an internet cafe.... we are eating junk foods(fast foods) here coz hotel foods is more expensive and we are trying to save every cent we can... and my kids had their first taste of typhoon here in Manila. I just thank God that it was only signal number 1.

I am on an internet cafe right now, going home to my hometown on thursday a day after interview. I hope to share some good news about our interview by then.

Congrats to all who passed medical and interview and Good luck to those who will be having medical and interview this week.

congratz! 2 weeks ago? can't believe they still aren't there yet!! Well the main thing is that you guys have been approved smile.gif What kind of questions did they ask?

Well, we walked up to the window with the consular officer, he looked at me and said "You must be the US citizen" and I replied yes, and he asked me where I lived. And I replied in North Carolina, and he then asked where, and I said Raleigh, suburbs. He asked which suburb, and I told him Cary, and he said, yeah, I've been there quite a few times. So at first in my mind I was like, hello, you aren't supposed to be interviewing me laughing.gif. He then picked up Stephen's passport and ask something to the effect that he was a British citizen (Duh, his passport says UK), guess that's what we get with him currently residing in Germany smile.gif

Anyhow, then he asked how we met, which Stephen told him (and spun off into when and where we got engaged), he then asked if Stephen had been to the US, and if he had met my parents, (then looked at me, so I volunteered I'd met his mother as well, and that we had pictures if he was interested). He then was asked when he planned on going to the US, and Stephen answered as soon as possible (the officer smiled). The officer then asked if Stephen planned to work, and Stephen answered yes, and the officer then asked what kind of work Stephen did, and he told him his training was as a chef, which the officer replied something along the lines of oh, wow, you won't have any problems finding something in the US, always looking for good chefs!!!! laughing.gif The officer wrapped things up with when we were planning on getting married. Stephen told him September 20th, and then interjected that we would be having a civil service sometime in June.

And he then said, everything was in order, and as soon as they had the medical results they would issue the visa. We both looked at him, and I asked, so that means we are approved? And the officer answered, definitely, yes!! He then took Stephen's fingerprint scans, then the officer signed the required documents, and we were done. We turned around, walked out very calmly through the building we were in, through the courtyard, and then through the security entrance, down the embassy sidewalk, to the street, and then we both did the happy dance laughing.gif

And the actual interview took all of 5 minutes. When we first got in, it was about 1-2 minutes and our number was up on the board. Then the first window took about 1 minute, to get told how to organize the paperwork, and hand in the passport photo. Then we walked away, organized the stuff, had a coffee, and within 10 minutes, our number was up again to goto another window. We went to that window, and spent about 5 minutes, being asked questions about the forms that were returned with packet 3. We finished with that, and sat down again, and probably waited about 20-25 minutes for the final window with the consular officer.

Thinking back on it now, it's almost difficult to remember, it was a very surreal experience ... but an exciting end, definitely!!!!!!

And although I've had two more paychecks, he still only has up until 1st week in April. I don't think it should be a problem, but if you are concerned, could mail him a bank statement, or you could scan the most recent paychecks and email the image files to him to print.

Joe, we are so sorry to hear your news. It's very disheartening to me that she was questioned about her own children, and asked to provide more proof. Like dbears said, why didn't they just ask for a DNA test. I thought it was an interview, not an interrogation!!!!!

I hope someone will be able to help you find the answers you need in how to proceed with the embassy. We wish you both the best of luck and hope you are reunited so very soon!!!!

lol, MBE .... Hope he gets his visa soon!!!

You know what troubles me, having to leave your passport .... in most places they tell you to make sure you have it in your ownership at all times. For example, Stephen is a UK citizen, however currently resides in Germany. He's supposed to carry his passport on him anywhere outside of his home. But when he leaves it at the embassy .... oi!!! That's just crazy ... I'm not sure I'd trust anyone else with my passport!!!!
