I think that expires 03-31-2014 from reading it.  Not sure when you are going since you said April.

Funny you mention that.  I noticed that a few hours ago.  I sent my niece the info in Thai.  I'll see if I can get her to buy them.

Thanks, is that an actual Thai version, or did you run it through a translation program?

That's the actual Thai version.  I linked to it at the bottom of the post.

5555.  Do you have a lot of motorbike taxi drivers in TX?  If not then I do not think you got much to worry about.  I am curious if you have to be in Thailand to do this.

I'm not sticking around here too many more years.  3 max.

ETA:  I don't know if you have to be in Thailand.  I'll find out in April when I go.

ThailandG-325A and Tabien Baan

Another address question, I promise that this will be the last smile.png

We are currently filling out the G-325A, and unfortunately she does not remember the exact addresses of a few of the places that she has lived over the past 5 years.  We know the general area, and we were able to locate everything through google maps, but with our luck there wasn't actually an address in google maps, either.   While we can definitely take a trip up through Bangkok and up to Chiang Mai, we wanted to see if it was okay to use the Tabien Baan since that is the official residency registration in Thailand.

The concern that I had was mainly due to the discrepancy that would arise as the previous jobs and their addresses are listed as well, and she is registered in a Tabien Baan that is nowhere near any of the jobs that she has worked over the past 5 years.  We will try to hunt down the past addresses, but just in case we wanted to see if anyone had issues with using the Tabien Baan in the past.

Many thanks as always!

Like everyone else said, she'll be fine.  The Tabien Baan is your permanent house registration book or "blue book."  If you move to another province and get an apartment or whatever, your house registration doesn't change.  The thing that sucks about that setup is if you ever lose your ID card or need to change your ID card for any reason, you have to go to the Amphur where your registered.  This can mean a 400 mile  trip just to get a new ID card.

Based on the recent news would you carry on with this trip?

Absolutely.  Just stay out of that stuff and away from those areas.  I was there for 2010 mess.  Didn't affect my trip one bit.  I went down to the protests just to check it out.    Don't go getting up on stage and making political speeches and you'll be fine.  Some idiot foreigners had to learn this lesson the hard way as you can see here:

Awesome thanks.  One more question, best area for street food?  Jane is a bit obsessed with street food.

I don't know if any one area is better than the other for street food.  It's frickin everywhere.  biggrin.png   That's basically how people eat there.  I remember a couple blocks away from you under the Saphan Taksin BTS station there was a ton of street food vendors there in one place.

My wife wants to book a few nights here (http://www.baanpranond.com/index.html)

Anyone familiar with the location?  Very close to the BTS...pro or con?

Thanks for any input.

That's a nice area.  There's alot of high end condos and businesses on Sathorn.  Also, the BTS (skytrain) is right there, so you can get on the Skytrain and avoid alot of traffic.  You can change the the MRT (subway) two stops away as well.  Between the Skytrain and the subway, you can get to most of Bangkok.  I used to live in State Tower which is a few blocks away.  Check out the top of State Tower.  They have a cool bar and restaurant up there.

Army-police rift widens

The Nation January 21, 2014 1:00 am

A public health official jokes with protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban during a march yesterday from Pathumwan to Asoke intersections. Public health personnel from all over the country participated in the protest.

Navy commander threatens to sue over 'mistaken identity'

RiftS between the police and the military appeared to be widening yesterday, as the Army commander in chief asked the national police chief to speed up investigation into recent attacks and a senior naval commander threatened to sue the police over allegations that a naval officer was behind the Sunday grenade attack.

Police also failed in their earlier push for an emergency decree to be issued to deal with the growing protest movement, with military commanders saying they saw no need for the decree.

Caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, meanwhile, said yesterday that her government was considering whether to impose the decree, while caretaker Foreign Minister Surapong Towichukchai-kul, who is in charge of the Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO), said the law would be invoked if violence continued.

Army commander in chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha, however, said yesterday that he had telephoned national police chief Pol General Adul Sangsingkaew and asked him to ensure that the "society gets clear facts" about the incidents. He has also said the assailants must face legal action and punishment.

Prayuth, in response to criticism that the military has been passive about dealing with the political conflict, said it had already done a lot. He also said the armed forces were not involved in any conflicts with any groups of people.

Meanwhile, Naval Special Warfare commander Rear Admiral Winai Klom-in yesterday threatened to file a lawsuit against the Royal Thai Police if it can be established that the police caused misunderstanding via social media that one of his subordinates had flung a grenade at Victory Monument.

Winai said he believed the police were aware that the distribution of false information - by comparing a Naval Special Warfare Command officer's picture with that of the suspect online - had affected his command.

"The way the police did it could be seen as an attempt to discredit our agency," Winai said, adding that the officer whose face was linked with that of the bomb suspect was on a mission to fight against drug trafficking.

The police yesterday issued a statement confirming that the Navy officer in question was not the one who lobbed a grenade at the Victory Monument protest site. Pol General Ek Angsananont, deputy national police chief, also denied that police had distributed the naval officer's photograph along with the arrest warrant for the bomb suspect.

Checkpoints, jointly manned by police and soldiers, have been set up as part of increased security after a series of attacks targeting protesters and their leaders.

National police chief Adul Sangsingkaew has ordered the setting up of checkpoints and day patrols, CAPO deputy spokesman Pol Maj-General Anucha Romayanant said.

Anucha said the checkpoints would focus on foiling attempts to smuggle weapons into protest areas, adding that the authorities were also working with protest leaders to boost security measures.

Adul also dismissed reports of a conflict between police and the military officers involved in the anti-government rally, which has continued for over two months.

Since December 26, four people have been killed and more than 260 injured in several attacks by unknown assailants, with grenade attacks on Friday and Sunday.

Metropolitan Police officer Pol Colonel Choosak Techarakpong inspected the Victory Monument protest site - which has been targeted several times - with People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) guards to help set up checkpoints. Choosak said uniformed police officers would be sent to maintain security at the protest site and that four checkpoints would be set up around the venue.

He added that up to 40 police would man each checkpoint and as many as 20 would patrol the rally site during the day.

Rice farmers join PDRC in Phichit blockade

The Nation January 21, 2014 1:00 am
FOR THE FIRST TIME in a week-long rally demanding immediate payment for rice sold under the government pledging scheme, farmers in Phichit yesterday joined supporters of the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) to block the provincial city hall and prevent civil servants from performing their duties.

Farmers from Phichit and nearby provinces blockaded Bung Narang district office on Sunday evening, while those blocking a key junction in the district agreed to make way for traffic and moved to join protesters at the district office.

The farmers and members of the PDRC padlocked the city hall and were continuing a blockade as of press time last night.

The Phichit-based farmers, along with those from Nakhon Sawan, Sukhothai and Kamphaeng Phet, have also signed a complaint addressed to His Majesty the King.

Meanwhile, about 1,000 farmers gathered outside city hall in Chiang Rai and demanded immediate payment for their long-overdue subsidy. Protest leader Theethawat Sitthisom said the rally was peaceful and not linked to the PDRC movement.

The head of the Chiang Rai commerce office, Chalermphol Phongchababnapha, told farmers he had learnt that the caretaker government was trying to obtain a loan of Bt130 billion before the Bt2.93 billion owed to local farmers could be paid.

Separately, staff members of certain Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives branches wore black yesterday to protest against the caretaker government's alleged attempt to take over BAAC-owned assets in order to subsidise its controversial, loss-making rice-pledging scheme.

Suthep Donpanya, director of the BAAC branch in Phitsanulok, said staff members had worn black in a symbolic protest against the alleged reallocation of funds. He said most local customers had withdrawn their deposits in a panic, and staff were ready to join the BAAC unionists' campaign against the government's moves.

Staff at the Udon Thani BAAC branch did not dress in black, but they also voiced opposition to the government's alleged bid to seize bank assets. A source said that customers, who were not farmers, had already started withdrawing their deposits, with one of |them taking out Bt30 million in one go.

Thailand1/22/14-K-1 visa interview and approval.

hello to all! First,we would like to thank all of you here who took the time to help us, slowlyman,ning,tex715,long,tango777...apologies to anyone we missed,we thank you also! A special shout out goes out to Karee and his wife, your kindness to us we will appreciate allways. No problems in BKK,we got there 2:00pm 1/21 and left 1/23 1200pm. We will recommend a hotel,Sawadee Hotel, located on Soi8 about 1/2 a kilometer in from Sukumvit road, short taxi ride to U.S.embassy, small, clean, flat screen, safe, balcony with nice view, quiet. Lost track of time in the infamous nana plaza, got back to room at about 1:00am so 5:30am came quickly! Coffee, shower and a 10 min. taxi ride and we are at embassy at 6;30am. Probably around 100 people there, turns out that 8 were for K-1 visa. Songsang had her entry documents examined and entered the embassy at 7:20am, I would not see her again until 1:45pm when she came to front of embassy to get her cell. As she talked to security and walked outside I couldn't tell what had happened, I gave her the thumbs up/thumbs down sign...she said wait and when she came outside she immediately started a conversation with a thai lady who was waiting entry into the embassy..this finished, we walked toward the overpass when she erupted..."we got it"...:we got it"...Interview-songsang says was an American woman about 40 years old. She apologized for the delay and began interview in thai, she was impressed with songsang`s English and was curious how she had learned, Songsang had worked for an American company in Korat for 14 years. We had traveled Thailand from 12/30 to 1/15 staying with Songsang`s sister and family, brother and family, her mama and son...we had a 40 picture photo album, the interviewer looked at the pictures but did not comment. She asked how we communicate when I am in U.S.A....Songsang gave her oct, nov. and dec phone records I had brought to Thailand. She asked Songsang if I had been married before, she answered yes and gave the date of my divorce. The woman said the  and petition was approved and Songsang would receive  in Korat in 1 week...took only 3days. One more thing, although I had sent 3 years of tax transcripts Songsang requested I bring actual returns so I brought 2011 and 2012, the interviewer took my 2012 return. We are in the middle of a victory tour thruout thaiand, currently in pataya, we return to our home in Korat soon to make our plans...I here ontil feb.27. Thank you again all and we will be happy to answer any questions about the process and the interview, I do not want to get in the K-1/K-3 debate, we didn't make the rules,we just played the game...we received visa in 125 days, we hope that someone soon will do better,we understand how extremely lucky we were..

Congratulations!!  Now comes the fun part where she moves in and takes over your house. devil.gif

ThailandWhere would you have to go vote if you were a Thai citizen for the election on 02-02

Thanks.  It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few days/weeks/months in Thailand.  I have a feeling the EC or the Anti-Corruption agency will either say something about the election or disband one or more political parties for 5 years.

I'm going in April for 3 weeks.  At least the hotels are dirt cheap.  Can get a 5 star fro about $100 a night.

ThailandWhere would you have to go vote if you were a Thai citizen for the election on 02-02

I was wondering where you have to go to vote?  I just asked the Wife and she said she would have to go back home to vote.  Are you able to change where you vote like here in the US ?  I ask this because Yingluck voted in Bangkok and is not from Bangkok.

http://bangkokpost.c...ng-kum-district

Have to go vote where your registered in the blue book (tabien Baan).  Which sucks for alot of people because they may live in Bangkok and rent an apartment there, but have to all the way back home to vote where they registered.  Same thing with the ID card, that's another pain in the a$$.  My wife had to travel 400 miles just to get a new ID card because she had to go back to where she was registered in the blue book.

That's why Bangkok (usually) empties out when there's an election.

You hand delivered it outside the embassy?

Is that allowed? Said on the 221g to register mail it along with the passport.

When we went through this in 2009 and got a 221g, they allowed us to submit the additional info they asked for in person between 13:00 and 15:30 on Mondays and Wednesdays.  I was actually allowed in with her on those days unlike the interview.  Not sure if that's still the case.

Does anyone who has gone through the process in the last 12 months,  have any insight into the interview process and common questions asked during the interview at the US embassy in Bangkok?

ThailandUpdate...

My wife will go to Bangkok this weekend to apply for her police certificate and I also just now recieved our AOS Processing Fee Bill from the NVC.  I've tried to pay online but so far, it's erroring out.  I think I'll give it a few hours and try again before calling.

Try to think of everything you'll need from her so you only have to pay Fedex or whoever once.  Remember everything you submit has to be an original.

KareeMaleThailand2014-02-13 17:02:00
ThailandUpdate...

When I talked to them last time via an infopass they said they would send me all docs they didn't need and forward the rest to the NVC.

Yeah well USCIS sucks.  As you can see from you went through with them.  The docs they said they would send you might show up next week, next year, or maybe never.

It's two totally different agencies in the U.S. govt.  One run by Dept. of Homeland Security, the other by Dept. of State.

USCIS = bad

NVC = good.

Like I said, get on the phone with them ASAP.  They may not have your case yet, but call them everyday anyway.  They are open 7 am to midnight (EST) weekdays.  This is the part of the process where it's up to you how long it takes to get through it.

KareeMaleThailand2014-02-06 21:10:00
ThailandUpdate...

Yes, those.

You didn't need to send originals to USCIS.  Only copies.  Hopefully they'll forward them to NVC, but I wouldn't count on it.  The good thing is at NVC you can actually talk to a human that knows what's going on.  You'll need to find out ASAP what they got from USCIS.  Put NVC on speed dial (603) 334-0700.  You'll be calling them alot.

ThailandUpdate...

The packets have originals of the Marriage and Birth certs already.. They'll need them again?

Which packets?  The ones you sent to USCIS with the I-130?

KareeMaleThailand2014-02-06 20:49:00
ThailandUpdate...

The NVC assigned case numbers today so we're finally starting that process.

Follow that guide I posted.  Make sure you get originals of the marriage certificate (with English translation), police certificate, and birth certificate (with English translation) mailed to you in the U.S.  You'll need to submit those to NVC.

KareeMaleThailand2014-02-06 20:37:00
ThailandUpdate...

Once I get the BKK numbers, around how long am I looking at.  I've been reading and it appears that I have about 2-3 months left once I have that.  Does that sound right to those who've recently received VISAs?

Actually it will be BNK numbers.  They will start with BNK2014.

I've seen people get through NVC in as little as 17 days after getting your BNK case number from NVC.  You need to make sure you have everything ready to go on your end. Original birth Certificates, (which it sounds like you have), original police report from Thailand, original marriage certificate with translation.

Here's the steps:

It looks like NVC recent timelines are running about 43 days.

Like I posted above, use those shortcuts and you'll breeze through.  Things will move quickly now compared to USCIS.

ThailandWill we get approved?

Once it begins we will learn immigrating to the USA is a truly amazing series of events.

I guess amazing is one way to put it.  I have another word for it, but I don't want a suspension. goofy.gif

Best thing you can do to fend off the "bar girl" image is dress like a typical Thai lady. Jin was suprised how many of the  woman interviewing looked like they just came from the bar.  A good Thai girl won;t dress like that.

Yeah this is key as well.  There have been alot of girls walking out of the embassy with many tears and no visa wearing tight jeans and high heels.  Should dress in business attire.  Black slacks and white shirt.

She works a Bully's Pub Bangkok, a popular family restaurant (even though its near Nana) in Bangkok where all them Embassy folks like to go for lunch. So hopefully that might be a positive. We can only hope whoever does her interview is one of her regulars lol.

Never heard of it.  Which is good.

I looked it up.  Seems like a decent place along the lines of Bourbon Street.  Hard to say how they'll look at it.

Red flag? At least orange. The pub. There must be no sense of anything that resembles the bar scene. I offer this with total respect and understanding. In another case the person was suspected to have one " job " when in reality she cleaned the place on day shift.

I assume she will know how to describe what Americans think of as " food service workers ".

100% agree.  OP needs to get his ducks in a row concerning that situation.  The "American style pub" isn't gonna look good to them. Fair or unfair that's gonna raise a flag.

ThailandTrouble with lawyer in Thailand and i-601

When she returned back to Thailand after her educational visa was about to expire she applied for and was approved for a temp visa. When she got to Detroit she was speaking to the immigration agent and was asked if she had a boyfriend in America. She said yes. They accused her of misrepresenting her visa because she did not disclose this during her interview at the Thai embassy. They didn't ask her and she didn't know she was supposed to voluntarily state that. So, when we applied for k1, they aggressively grilled her on this. Broke her down to tears and accused us of fraud. So we hired the lawyer and have tried to move forward. I went to his office my last visit and he told us he was a little behind with other cases. He did another interview and said the same line. I will have your rough draft done in 1 week and we can submit the next. That was over 6 months ago. My bigger, older brother and i are going to Thailand on a trip in April. Maybe we should visit him again?

We spent our money on this attorney.

Thanks

I wonder how they knew that she didn't disclose that she had a boyfriend?  There's no question about boyfriends on any of the forms.  Unless they put the entire interview in the paperwork they gave to CBP. which would be odd.

Depending on when you go in April, the lawyer might not be around since it's Songkran.

ThailandTrouble with lawyer in Thailand and i-601

Long story short.. I am an American citizen and my fiancé is from thailand. She was denied k1 and now we have to file i601. She wanted to hire a lawyer in thailand. She found an American lawyer in Thailand over 1.5 years ago.it took me approximately 5 months to get paperwork to prove hardship. The lawyer has been telling us for 1 year that he will submit the waiver soon. As you can see after 1 year of his lies we don't know what to do. We paid him in full to do this work. Now he has our money and he is not doing the job. I shouldn't have let her hire a person in Thailand. If this happened in America i could sue for malpractice. He has our money, all of our paperwork and personal information. I am extremely stressed from this situation and was wondering if anyone had a similar experience or knew of any legal recourse? We have been apart for 2 years now, it is really taking a toll on my mental and emotional well being, not to mention the money I've spent visiting her every 6 months. I'm at a loss for what i should do.

I wish I had a positive answer for you, but I don't.  We had used a lawyer here in the U.S. and there's no real recourse here either unfortunately.  Did you go see the lawyer on your last trip and ask him #######? What was the reason for the denial?

ThailandCanadian's fatal plunge a suicide, say police

A Canadian man yesterday plunged from the fourth storey of Suvarnabhumi airport and died in what police say was a suicide.

Quoting eyewitnesses, police said Raymond Mark Campbell,64, got out of a taxi and pushed his cargo cart to the arrival lounge on the fourth and top floor. He climbed over the fence and jumped to the ground floor. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital from traumatic injuries.

Immigration information showed that Campbell entered Thailand on January 16 and booked his flight out on March 22.

He later changed his travel to yesterday and went to the airport. Police have theorised he intended to kill himself. They have notified the Canadian embassy and begun the process for relatives to claim his body. - The Nation

ThailandI have a question

Before this pi$$ing match goes on any further, let me be clear.   At the US EMBASSY in BANGKOK, THAILAND YOU CAN SUBMIT DOCUMENTS IN THAI WITHOUT AN ENGLISH TRANSLATION.  However, if you plan on using those same documents to adjust status in the U.S. or for anything else in the U.S. they need to be translated into English.  Might as well get it done in Thailand where it's cheap and they do a decent job, and have all the professional looking stamps.

ThailandI have a question

Excuse me,What's do you means " Proper" ?

I got it but my parent were "Laminated" on it when I was baby  because you know to avoid flood or maybe a little mouse might be bite on it.[You know that right?]

So,my bf and I are decided to Certified new one by Amphour where I was born but however,I still hold it in my hands.

I just heard from my friend that USCIS will not accept Laminated document, this is why I have to make new one but however,I will bring it when I have to fly to the USA too.

Any advise would be great !!

Thanks sir.

For example there have been some here that didn't have a birth certificate at all so they used their family blue book (???????????) at the interview.  The embassy said fine no problem.  Then they came to the US and went to adjust status to get a green card and USCIS said no, we need a birth certificate.  They then had to get family members in Thailand to run around and go to the Amphur etc. to get a birth certificate and get it translated and sent to the U.S.

Sounds like you have what you need.  Go ahead and get it translated to English while in Thailand, since you'll need to submit it to USCIS after you arrive in the U.S. to get your green card.  USCIS will only accept documents in other languages with an English translation.

This has nothing to do with your upcoming interview in Bangkok, I'm just preparing you for the next step after you arrive in the U.S.

Thank you so much sir ......

Ohh I forgot to mention the birth certificate.  Make you sure have a proper birth certificate.  The BKK embassy will accept just about anything as proof of birth.  USCIS will not.  There's been more than a few people here that have had a problem with this coming from Thailand.

ThailandI have a question

K1

I already sent P3 to the US Embassy but sometimes I just confuse that Do I need to translate my Marital status certificate? (Single Certificate)

I have translated birth certificate and Name change certificate with Certified from the Ministry of foreign affairs where is issued my passport because I know I need it when I have to change my status in USA.

I was believe in the Instruction of P3 that  All documents not in English or Thai must be accompanied by certified English translation

Should I ask the US Embassy here in Thailand??,but however the official language in Thailand is Thai.

You're fine.  It clearly states both English and Thai are accepted.  That said, make sure you have everything that you need for adjustment of status translated to English.

ThailandInterview at POE

One question: When will you get married.

The beneficiary can go through the US citizens line if with petitioner

I wouldn't do that.  The reason is that they are going to take the beneficiary to another room and sign some papers. At least that's what they did with us.  We went through the non-citizen line since they are equipped for that sort of thing.
