ThailandKaree, who is in your display pic?

Is that a politician or an actor?

Now he's a politician. He used to be the massage parlour king of Bangkok. When I first moved to Bangkok in 2004, he was running for Bangkok governor. He had all these crazy campaign posters all over Bangkok with crazy faces, holding a sledge hammer etc. His name is Chuwit. he was actually educated in the U.S., but they wont give him a visa to come back here due to his previous occupation. He once named all the police officials he was bribing. I thought the dude had the life expectancy of a housefly at that point, but he's still around.

ThailandEC: Thaksin can vote
Just in case there's any doubt where the EC's loyalties lie:

Election Commission chairman Apichart Sukhagganond has admitted the EC had discussed inviting ex-pm Thaksin Shinawatra as a guest speaker for class 4 students in the EC's advanced course on political development and elections.
Apichart said the students had proposed Thaksin give his talk through Skype and he thought there was nothing wrong about the idea as students should get well-rounded opinions for the political development of the country.

Election Commissioner Sodsri Satayatham said the EC committee in charge of drawing up a curriculum for the course invited Squadron Leader Prasong Sunsiri as guest speaker. Students said, hoping for well-rounded information, they wanted to hear from Thaksin also.

She said the decision whether to invite Thaksin rested with the committee in charge of curriculum and the five EC commissioners. She said the committee had not yet reached any decision on the matter.

ThailandEC: Thaksin can vote

http://bangkokpost.c...haksin-can-vote
So the EC says he can vote. I thought the voting was decided where your family is from and he and his family are from Chaing Mia? I admit I do not know how voting in Thailand works for governor of Bangkok.

Besides the obvious reasons he shouldn't be allowed to vote, I never considered that. You do have to go back to wherever your blue book registration lists you and vote there. I remember Bangkok emptying out during elections because of this.

My wife changed her name after we got married. In order to change her name on her ID card, she had to go back to the Amphur where she's listed on the blue book to do it. 10 hour bus ride. The same seems to apply to voting.

ThailandTHAI POLICE CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE $$$

Hello ,

Just a little report on Danita trip to get her police cert. Everything went well, she had all of her paperwork ready and it went smoothly. Now, the reason for my posting is part way though the gentleman who was processing her ask how quick she needed this done and if she needs it fast he can help things along and have it finished for her in 10 days....all for only 1000 thb. Danita politely declined and at the end she was told she could come back in 3 weeks to get her certificate ( she did not want it mailed). Some of Danita's friend have paid this ( uuuuhhhh, expedite fee) in the past with varying results but i thought most are finished in 2 weeks regardless. Just thought i would share this.

Tim

Not surprising. I've seen so many variations on the Thai police report in the 6 years I've been around this immigration process. My wife paid some lawyer 5k Baht in Chiang Mai to deal with it because she didn't feel like going to Bangkok to get it. I think the lawyer got it the same day somehow.

ThailandPolice Certificate from Singapore

Hi, this is from the official US government website. I have posted the link for you to go their and the information about The Police Clearance. I hope it helps. Good luck.

http://travel.state....5.html?cid=9732

Certificate of Clearance

Available. The police records for Singapore may be considered complete from their origins to the present, except for the "occupation" period during World War II.

For all applicants, a form letter from the requesting/processing office (NVC, KCC, Embassy, employer etc.) is required to obtain a Certificate of Clearance (COC). Such letter should specify the need for the clearance and state explicitly that "a statutory declaration of no criminal conviction by the applicant is not acceptable as evidence that he/she does not have criminal convictions". The COC will be sent directly to the requesting/processing office.

Applicants residing in Singapore are to appear in person at the COC Office located at Blk D Police Cantonment Complex, #02-07/08, 391 New Bridge Road , Singapore 088762. The office is open from 8.30am to 12.30pm , Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).

Applicants residing overseas should submit their applications (original) addressed to: Head Criminal Records, CID ( COC ), Blk D Police Cantonment Complex, #02-07/08, 391 New Bridge Road , Singapore 088762.

Processing time for each application is about 10 working days.

Processing fee is S$45.00 per application. Payment can be made by cash, NETS , cash card, or credit cards (VISA/MASTERCARD) for walk-in application. Application sent by post (from overseas) must be accompanied by a bank draft made payable to 'Head Criminal Records CID ' through a Singapore-based bank. In addition to the processing fee, a postage fee of S$5.00 must be included in the payment (total S$50.00) if the COC is to be mailed. Payment is non- refundable once the application is accepted.

All applicants must complete the Certificate of Clearance application form available at http://www.spf.gov.s...coc_appform.pdf in full and submit it with the necessary supporting documents:
•A set of applicant's fingerprint impressions (ten prints). Applicants applying in person will be fingerprinted at the COC office at the time of application. For application by post from overseas, the applicant must submit a set of his/her fingerprint impressions taken by a qualified Fingerprint Officer at a Police Station or an authorized office of the country he/she is now residing.
•A photocopy of applicant's valid passport (showing biodata page).
•Two recent passport-sized photographs. Instant photo machine is available outside COC Office for applicants who appear in person (cost: S$7, approx. USD5.50, for 4 passport size photos).
•Photocopy of document from relevant consulate/immigration authority/government bodies or other requestor to establish that the certificate is required by such authority and that a statutory declaration of no criminal conviction by the applicant is not acceptable as evidence that s/he has no criminal convictions. All documents are to be translated into English if written in other languages.

NOTE: Non-Singapore citizens requesting a Certificate of Clearance must also submit a copy of this letter after adding the names of the principal and dependent applicants as indicated, along with the checklist letter from NVC.

Please refer to http://www.spf.gov.s...cert_issued.htm for further information and updates on Certificate of Clearance from Singapore.

Wow! What a pain.

Thailandbring a child later

Hello,

Danita's 12 year old son is listed on our k-1 but he is now living with his father and in a very good school in Thailand so Danita is not sure if it is best for him to come to U.S. in the first 12 months. Does anyone have experience with getting a visa for a child later from Thailand? Because of quotas, I understand that wait times can vary from country to country.
thank you

Tim

I believe it's fine to have a child follow later. Look for Rin and John on this website. They did the same thing I think. There are no quotas for stepchildren under 21.

ThailandThai Police Clearance for K1 Confusion

I am a Malaysian who needs a police clearance from Thailand as I worked there for 2 years. I am applying for the clearance through postal mail. I have read contradictory information and would appreciate if someone can help clear the confusion. Information on their police website says a fee of 100 baht is now charged by the Royal Thai Police but upon clicking on the link, it was broken.

Some info I read said that the police clearance is free. Which is it?

Karee, Thank you so much. Unfortunately I cannot seem to access the link due to server connections. Been trying to access it the whole day.
If you see the first link you sent (http://www.thaivisa....lady/?p=6198389) the couple said they went to the second table and paid 100 baht. I wonder if I need to include 100 baht as well?

If I were to go by the info on www.travel.state.gov there seems to be no charges for the clearance service. Still confused :(

Maaan.... even their email address doesnt work. I emailed and it bounced back.

This is from inside that PDF I am linking to:

The Police Clearance Service Center. Note: If criminal record is found or all required documents are not submitted, then, certificate may take longer than normal to get it. Since October 1,2012 Issue a certificate of service behavior, will charge for a criminal records check amount 100 baht

ThailandTraveling from Suvarnabhumi to Don Mueang?

I'll pay 35 baht for a bottle of water in the airport any day versus 3-5 dollars in the states. lol As for me, the only good memory about Don M. is that I got drunk there while waiting for 6 hours to catch a flight to my hometown Udon Thani back in 2005. That trip was my first in 30 yrs since moving to USA. It was so exciting in Thailand, and I was single then; didn't mind the waiting.

 My buddy took a video of me there last time we went for Songkran eating a hamburger drunk off my a$$. Trying to convince her to give me money for another beer. Then I realized I had money in my pocket, and I was gone. Off to the bar!

ThailandTraveling from Suvarnabhumi to Don Mueang?

I did the same in 2007, I flew Nok Air from Don M. to Ubon. I took a cab from Suvarnabhumi to Don M. at that time. I think back then the total cost for a cab was about 500 baht.

I traveled out of Bangkok every week when I lived there. One thing i didn't like about Don Muang was about half the time you had to take a bus to get to the plane to takeoff, and the same when you landed. When they opened the new airport I thought thank god I wont have to do that. No such luck. Same thing. I couldn't believe it. Also Swampy is one huge duty free shop now. I guess King Power paid the right people.

ThailandTraveling from Suvarnabhumi to Don Mueang?

The last time I flew Air Asia back in 2010 they flew out of Suvarnabhumi. Now they fly out of Don Mueang. http://www.airasia.c...plate.do?id=548. Right now I'm finding Air Asia, Nok Air and Thai Airways that fly to Ubon Ratchathani. Of that group Nok Air also flys from Don Mueang.

Yeah I flew Nok Air from Don Mueang to Ubon back in 2010. It does seem pretty confusing.

They can't seem to make up their minds in regards to that.

They have that airport rail link up and running now. I think it takes you as far Makkasan. Not sure what you do after you get there. Check out Thaivisa. I'm sure they have a bunch of stuff about it on there.

ThailandTraveling from Suvarnabhumi to Don Mueang?

Has anybody taken the shuttle from Suvarnabhumi to Don Mueang since they moved the domestic flights to Don Mueang? Or would taking a taxi be better?

I went through that in the opposite direction from Don Muang back to Swampy back in 2010. I had like 8 hours so I just took a taxi down to Sukhumvit, had a few beers, and then took another taxi to Swampy. You might check because for awhile domestic flights were going to both Swampy and Don Muang. I know Nok Air was doing it for awhie.

ThailandThailand police certificate

How long is the Thai Police Certificate good for? I am thinking about going this route since my wife is currently living up in Loei with her parents and having her go to BKK on her own will cost around 5000 baht alone in airfare and hotel stay. Plus my credit card fears for it's safety when she is near malls.

It is good for 6 months. Looks like you already have NOA2 from USCIS. She will likely need a copy of that to get it.

Have her take the bus to save on airfare.

ThailandThailand police certificate

Correct. IR-1/CR-1 visas need to send the original police report to NVC. K visas submit them to the embassy.

ThailandThailand police certificate

I just paid Siam legal 8900 Thai baht to get police clearance for my wife within 5 days without her presence in Bangkok and including airmail of documents to me in the US, good deal without the headache.

Yeah, I know that sounds steep to some people, but if you count travel to Bangkok and the expenses involved, probably not a bad deal. I think my wife paid a lawyer in Chiang Mai 5k THB to get it done with out her having to travel to BKK. That didn't include sending the police clearance to me in the U.S. though.

Cheating German Scammed By Thieving Thai Mistress
A 70-year-old German with a Thai wife reported to Udon Thani police that his missing credit card was used to purchase 10,000 THB of goods. Police caught the 23-year-old female suspect, who was having an affair with the German. They had met through an online dating site. She confessed to the theft.

UDON THANI – March 26, 2013 [PDN]; A man reported to police that someone had used his missing credit card to purchase 10,000 THB worth of goods. The victim was identified as Mr. Hyde Fleebrand, 70 years old, German. He was accompanied by his Thai wife when he went to the police in Udon Thani. He reported that his credit card has been missing since March 19.

The police then investigated and discovered that the person who took it was Ms. Piyamas Phajanda, 23 years old, who was his mistress. Police tracked down and detained Ms. Piyamas, who confessed that she had stolen it.

She told officers that she had met Mr. Hyde a year ago through an online matching-making site called “Thailovelink.” They eventually had a first meeting four months ago, and have seen each other for a total of three times.

Then on March 19, she found Mr. Hyde’s credit card on a desk in the bedroom, so she took it. Then she rode her motorcycle to a department store and tried to withdraw some money, but she did not have the card’s password.

So she instead used it to buy merchandise. At first she tried to buy 10 baht gold, but the financial amount was not enough for the minimum purchase amount. So she used the card to buy a half-baht gold ornament necklace, and sold it for 11,000 baht. She then used the money to repay a loan shark, whom she had borrowed from to open her clothes shop before she got arrested.

Ms. Piyamas tried to beg Mr. Hyde not to press theft charges against her, and she promised to repay all his money. But Mr. Hyde went ahead and pressed charges, because he was afraid that she would do the same thing to other people.

A police check of her background revealed she had been arrested before. She had used a credit card to buy 90,000 baht of property, but only paid back 45,000 baht.

ThailandApplying for a B-tourist Visa while waiting for NOA 2

This situation in California has both of us down. If the current schedule holds up, it looks like we would be lucky to get a Visa by the end of this year. We've been thinking about applying for a b-tourist visa. She has no substantial finances or property. Really her daughter is her only tie to the country.

Has anyone tried getting a tourist visa from Thailand? Is it even worth the effort? If what I've been reading here on VJ is correct, the worst that can happen is I loose the application fee.

Thoughts?

You can give it a shot. Based on what you've posted, it seems unlikely. Especially with no ties to Thailand, and an I-129F pending. That said, I've seen people get B visas in Bangkok that I thought had 0 chance of getting one, and I've seen people there get denied that I thought would get one for sure.

Over on TVF some people act like it's no big deal and it's easy, and others have all kinds of issues. I never bothered trying for my wife because it seemed unlikely at the time.

Like you said, all they can do is say no and you lose the application fee.

ETA:
Looking at your timeline, you should have the K-1 visa well before the end of the year.

Hmm, I had her scan it and email it to me. Hope it does not come back for RFE. The first time I filled it out I went to a Thai restaurant and had a waiter sign her name but I messed up something else on that form (before I sent it) so I had to fill out another, emailed it to her and she signed and scanned it. Well I'll be finding out soon, Dec VSC filer...

Hopefully you'll be ok. I've seen people get RFEs over it.

ThailandI have a few questions about Thai flying to America

I meet a Thai woman online about six months back. Well we meet back in February, when she went on vacation to see her aunt in Houston, Texas. I recently invited her to come Spend the summer with me in Florida. My question is, Is there a waiting period in between visit's to the states or can she come when she wises?

No, there is no set waiting period between visits. Her I-94 will be stamped with the duration of how long she can stay. That said, it's up to the CBP official at port of entry. I don't see it being an issue though as long as it doesn't appear that she is planning on immigrating here permanently.

When Danita was at the Thai post office paying for the inteview a woman told her she needs to buy a pin number too. I had not hear of this, do we need it? what is it for?

Thanks

Hopefully Ning will see this and respond, because she will know the answer for sure. Myself, I think the post office got confused. You can buy a PIN there if you want to call the embassy and ask them questions. Obviously you don't need to do this.

ThailandK=1 and tourist visas
Don't waste your time and money. Just push through with the K visa. There is pretty much no chance of that happening with a K visa pending. It's happened, but rarely. It wont jeopardize the K visa. They'll automatically assume that she has immigrant intent. And even if she does get the visa, chances are she'll be turned away at CBP and sent back to Thailand. That's a long round trip just to see a CBP officer and get sent back.

You'll want to check the airlines as well.

According to their website, Delta requires a ticket on travel between countries, although with some fare reduction (taxes and airport fees still apply - they can be significant so the difference between a "lap" ticket and a seat ticket would probably be less than $1,000):

http://www.delta.com...fares/index.jsp

Briefly reading thru their site, it appears United's policy is the similar:

http://www.united.co...67,1051,00.html

You may be better off on Thai Airways. Not sure of the ticket pricing, but they provide bassinets. Their website has nothing on pricing for infants under the age of 2 yo.

http://www.prthaiair...php?lg=en&dng=1

Yeah I remember seeing alot of that on Asian airlines. You have to have a bulkhead seat. After the flight takes off they lock a small cradle onto the bulkhead. Not sure about safety, but I saw it quite a bit.

ThailandWhen will we get an interview

Well that sucks for me :(

Actually no it doesn't. It is good for you. It seems that the BKK embassy schedules all the K visas first, and then NVC schedules the CR-1/IR-1 visas with whatever is left over. That's my guess anyway. It took over three months from when our case was complete at NVC and the interview date. Also, there is no packet 3 for CR-1/IR-1, so as soon as the case was complete at NVC, we were ready for the interview.

Seems like the embassy takes precedence when scheduling interviews over NVC, which sucked for us.
