My wife has waxed for years (doing it herself) and has also tried various professionals and she's said that she does a better job. Of course, she also said it hurts like all hell. But I suppose practice makes perfect in this case and apparently, she's very good at it. Painkillers help too. tongue.gif

I was on the pill from 17 to 35 and stopped it at 35 because my doctor recommended it - not a good idea after 35. I decided to use an IUD and I did that for the next 12 years then when I was no longer in a permanent relationship didn't 'renew' it. I had no problems with the IUD and it was a great form of birth control. My periods were actually lighter than pre-pill 'norms' and the only real difference I noticed is that I had mittelschmerz - which was actually kind of cool because then I knew exactly when I ovulated.

I will say, though, menopause is the best birth control!

So maybe my IUD is the reson I can feel myself ovulate. "Mittelschmerz"- Hmm that is interesting I didn't know that, nor did I know there was a name for it! lol

Mittelschmerz means "central pain" (more or less) in German. Translations are always a little fuzzy since it's difficult to get the exact meaning when going from one language to another.

Oh my, what is it with the American weight curse? I realized I've gained 5 LBS in a little over 4 months. I have NOT changed my eating habits at all, and I have been exercising more in fact here. At home, I was busy with work and didn't work out much but here, not working and all, I go to the gym at least 5 days a week! What is it with this place and weight gain!? mad.gif My clothes all still fit, but some jeans are a tad TOO tight.

ive had the opposite happen, every time i come here i lose weight, i was here for 5 months and lost 15 pounds, went home, gained 20, came back ive been here a month and lost 10 pounds already.

Same here. Ever since arriving in Canada, I've gained weight.

Like a work shirt, and it's not hot out and you weren't sweaty so the shirt isn't smelly or anything. Can't it be worn at least twice before putting it in the laundry? I'll wear a shirt more than once and I don't think it's dirty. And I'm a clean freak!

I don't do that. I've told my wife that there are many subtle levels of clean. The "sniff" test works wonders.

Amanda, we're in America now! Don't you remember that when ONE bad thing happens it ruins it for the rest of us! Hence why kindereggs are illegal here. tongue.gif

Two women got injured during a bikini wax a few years ago and one sued.. so now they think illegalizing it is going to make everything better.

It doesn't matter to me really, I'll just drive the 10 minutes and go to Philly for a wax if need be.

It all comes down to personal responsibility. My wife and I have spoken about this many times (personal responsibility, not waxing) and it's simply amazing how many people refuse to hold themselves accountable for their actions. Naturally, when this occurs, these individuals set out to blame others and likely sue them.

Unless these women were severely injured, I fail to see why making this illegal even comes close to the realm of logic. If you're going to a professional in some line of work, it's your responsibility to check them out beforehand.

Even assuming this had been done and the women were injured badly, how is it still anyone's fault other than their own? No one told them to go somewhere to wax -- they could have done it at home. Many people do.

Making bikini waxing illegal will simply mean more people will do this sort of waxing at home (or not at all) and thereby hurt businesses that employ bikini waxing. Considering the state of the U.S. economy and overall job situation, I seriously question why anyone would want to damage business and potentially get even more people fired.

Your chances are directly attributed to genetics...heredity. See Gene in our picture here? He had a head of gorgeous dark brown hair...and heavy facial hair. He has to shave everyday, and probably should do the 5 pm shave as well, but just won't unless we're going out somewhere in the evening. Well, in his late 30's he started to lose a few strands...and within a few short years, he was almost bald. I personally love his hair, the few that he has. wink.gif He has a beautiful head, so he looks perfect!

My wife waxes everything. She tends to prefer waxing in general, since the hair grows back way too fast when shaving (plus stubble makes the skin rough). She's said that the hair grows in finer and easier to remove the more she waxes.

I can understand her comment about shaving. I have to shave twice a day. The second time I don't have to be nearly as thorough, but if I don't do it, I'll have a "five o'clock shadow" before 5pm even rolls around. Yes, my hair grows in that fast. The hair on my head is like that as well. I need to get haircuts on a regular basis. It can be a little annoying, but at least the chances of me going bald are slim. tongue.gif

Kraft owns a lot of "smaller" companies, like Nabisco and all foods under that label. Mr Christie is owned by Nabisco and therefore Kraft, as well. Like any smart company, they chose to keep the familiar name (i.e. Mr Christie in Canada) instead of changing it, since consumers already knew it by that name.

It's entirely possible that some brand that Kraft owns makes and sells peanut butter in the U.S. I don't know what it may be (I rarely buy PB) so you might need to do a little research.

Hershey's has the label license for Cadbury's in the US though, so it's not the same, unless you're getting them at an import shop and the label says "Made in UK" or elsewhere. The Hershey's versions suck, the chocolate is not anywhere near as rich and tastey as the Canadian or other versions. I actually emailed them one time to ask them about that, and they said because they use a different type of cocoa, and less of it. There are more fillers in the US versions of chocolate bars, so less actual chocolate to keep the price down.

Personally, I quite enjoy some chocolate in my chocolate.

US Cheez Whiz doesn't actually have any cheez in it, the Canadian version does, hence the difference.

I'm not a big fan of Hershey's myself either. Chocolate DOES taste different here. I think Herhey's makes Reeces stuff too, and it doesn't taste the same as in Canada as well. I'm wondering if Hershey's even makes milk chocolate? They seem to have a darker more bitter chocolate.

I liked Hershey's chocolate when I was a kid, but as I got older, I enjoyed it less. There's a lot of good chocolate in the U.S., but the most commonly available is Hershey's (mostly because it's relatively cheap to produce and sell). If you look at stores like Walmart or whatever, the chances are you won't find quality chocolate. In general, you have to look a little harder to find the really good chocolate.

Yes, I've found Ghirardelli chocolate very good. It's not cheap though. I rarely eat chocolate anymore, so when I do, I prefer good chocolate. I was referencing chocolate that's in candy bars earlier though. I was and am a huge fan of Cadbury, but the Cadbury here is not the same and that's where my comment about Hershey's came from.

I don't shop, nor have I ever shopped at Walmart either. THAT is another thread all in itself. innocent.gif laughing.gif

I gotcha. Candy bars are kind of gross: most are covered in far-too-sweet crappy milk chocolate containing some sort of artificial fillings. Not all are like this, of course, but enough are to keep me from eating them (not that I eat chocolate very often). If I'm going to have chocolate, I vastly prefer the dark variety.

I do have to admit that I prefer most of the chocolate bars found in Canada to those that are available in the U.S. The first time I visited I had no idea what Aero, Caramilk or Coffee Crisp was, which surprised my wife. Aero and Caramilk were both good, but too "light on substance" and "too gooey," respectively speaking. Coffee Crisp, however, I really liked.

For quick and easy-to-find chocolate, my wife likes the Lindt Excellence Chili Bar. I would've linked to the Canadian site, but for some reason, only the American site had the right product on display. Lindt is also pretty easy to find (I've seen it at Walgreen's) in the U.S.

One time I bought the Lindt Excellence 99% Cocoa Bar thinking it'd be really good. Well, it was good, but far too potent. So we used it to make some very rich hot chocolate. smile.gif

We live about 1.5hrs from Gettysburg, and have in fact gone Ghost Hunting on more than one occasion. If you want to see Ghost Hunters Galore, go on the the last Saturday before they change the time of the park hours back to 6pm from 10pm.

We went, and OH MY GOD. When we were driving along through the Battlefield looking up at Little Round Top, I swear, it looked like there was a lightening storm up there with all of the camera flashes going off!

I've had a couple of experiences in G'Burg, like the little boy who haunts the Farnsworth Inn, flicked my glasses up from behind my ears laughing.gif

I Love Gettysburg, and recommend it as a vacation destination for anyone...if you like ghosts or not tongue.gif

That sounds interesting. I'd like to do that at some point.

I'd have to imagine the most haunted places in the world would be battlefields. How many people died there? I don't know for sure (since different battles took place in different areas), but if ghosts exist, a place where tons of people died -- and in horrible ways -- would be a good area to haunt.

I've tried watching Ghost Hunters, but TAPS team didn't hold my attention (which is admittedly very short). As I said in a previous thread, I like ghost stories, but usually they're a bit more varied than the kind shown with TAPS.

The closest thing I've ever had to a supernatural encounter was a hypnagogic hallucination. It freaked me out a little at the time.

I think UFOs (or rather, alien life) is far more plausible than ghosts or anything else supernatural. There has to be life somewhere out there, on some other planet. Whether or not they've visited us at some point is anyone's guess. One thing about UFO sightings that seem weird to me is that they appear out in the middle of nowhere. A UFO will spring up, a let a farmer see it and mutilate the cows. Does that make a whole lot of sense? blink.gif

Here's my idea:
Beaver (Pawn)
RCMP (Knight)
Polar Bear (Rook)
Maple Leaf (Bishop)
Queen Elizabeth II (King)
Prime Minister (Queen)

I chose Queen Elizabeth as the "King" since she's probably pretty important to Canada overall, but she holds very little usable power. Therefore the position of "King" makes sense.

Two positions I'm a little uncertain of belong to the Maple Leaf as the "Bishop" and the Prime Minister as the "Queen." My reasons for the PM as "Queen" is because he or she is the most powerful elected official in Canada, so I figure that works. I was considering the Governor-General, but from what I've seen, the GG doesn't do a whole lot in most cases. As for the Maple Leaf... well, I couldn't think of anything that'd work as a "Bishop." tongue.gif

Any suggestions?
How about:
  • Beaver (pawn)
  • Mountie (knight)
  • whisky-jack (rook--since the whisky-jack and rook are both relatives of crow/magpie)
  • Polar Bear (bishop)
  • PM (queen)
  • Governor-General (king--as Queen's Canuck rep)

Yep I'm fully US and Canadian right now. Never once yet heard of anyone going through all the process to actually denounce their Canadian citizenship or why anyone would even bother to do that since Canada will never force you to do so.

At my oath, I considered myself American and American only now, however, Canada will always claim me as theirs still. Not my problem they still want to think that ha ha.

On the good news, I can travel and work freely in either country whenever I want now without any worries.

Now if you were from Germany or Peru or India for instance, then you would have to give up your citizenship for the US one as neither of those nations will allow you to take on a foreign citizenship. I don't hear too much complaints about Germans or Peruvians on it, but the Indians are always conflicted because most their families live in India still and many own property still and want to go back to work etc. Which once they take the US oath, they no longer will be able to without obtaining a Indian work visa like the rest of us.

Still, I have yet to hear anyone that has actually gone through with denouncing their Canadian citizenship legally. I couldn't care less about it, but I'm not going to bother myself doing that though. I'll just keep both since they don't mind...

Just curious Warlord, why do you hang out in the Canada forum if you don't consider urself Canadian?

I'm not Canadian and yet, like a persistent itch that refuses to go away, I remain here. biggrin.gif

Walmart will do any size as long as you tell them measurements and for what - I freaked out about mine as well and I think I went back and they redid them.

You will die laughing when you see what they actually do with those first pics (or is it 1 of the Package 3 ones???) I watched the lady, take my photo - take a freaking glue stick and slather it before plunking it up in the top corner of her paperwork.

A slight difference in size shouldn't have been such a big deal.

No one understood what I meant by "Canadian passport size photos." I gave multiple places the correct dimensions and at each place they simply printed out U.S. passport sized photos. They had no idea what I was talking about, despite giving them the information sheet from Immigration Canada.

Many didn't even understand me when I said I wanted Canadian passport photos. They immediately figured I'd be immigrating to the United States (which would be weird considering I was within the U.S. at the time) and got confused when I suggested something else. A few photo places even asked me why I was immigrating to Canada and couldn't understand any reason for leaving the U.S. at all.

I asked at my local Walgreens- they said the machine they have has a Country option that will automatically control picture size.

Yeah, I tried Walgreens. I'm sure they had some sort of option to cover Canada, but I apparently "lucked" out and got a moron.

Immigration Canada took the American-sized photos, so the issue didn't become a problem.
