I'm pretty sure you don't need a Police Certificate for AOS.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 interview...what to photocopy
The Guide and Visa FAQ up above should give you a good idea :)
Canuck CarrieFemaleCanada2006-02-26 07:49:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresa few questions
1. He is allowed to accompany you to your interview. It's up to the border if they let him into Canada

2 & 3 Visa's are issued the next day after 2:30pm in Montreal, they will tell you after your interview if you have
been approved

4. You can have your medical from anyone on the approved Panel Physician list. The list can be found by clicking on Embassy Info up above then C for Canada. This list will also be in your packet 3.

5. The Visa itself is $100 US, fingerprints are only needed if you have criminal history. Without a criminal history a Canada wide name check will do (and you will need one for any where else in the world except the USA you have lived in for 6+ months since you were 16) My name check was $35 + taxes. Other fees are the filing of the I-129F, passport pics, sending each other documents you need, long form birth certificate and a few other things. If you read the Guides and Visa FAQ up above in the blue tabs you should get a general idea.

6. Your packet 3 instructions from Montreal will be very clear about what you send before the interview and what you bring with you

7. They do not care about your education.

You should re-read the Guides and Visa FAQ and check out the Embassy Info section up above, alot of your anwers are there. Also check out the Canada area in the Regional Section of Visa Journey, there is a lot of great interview information there as well.

Yes, you need a passport. You can put a rush on the application for an extra fee. If you do not have a long form birth certificate you MUST have one as well. That can be ordered from whatever Province you were born in (assuming you were born in Canada). For Ontario, you can order them online which is must faster than by mail or fax.

Keep in mind that the time frame is approximately 2 months from Montreal receives your file from the NVC to your interview.

Good Luck! :)

I believe it is asked for on your packet 3 checklist from the Consulate/Embassy. It is required for all non-USA places she has lived for longer than 6 months since she was 16

does it really matter which one i put? or will they decide for me either or?

They decide for you, I'm sorry I don't know where Winnipeg falls (Montreal or Vancouver)

Peter, Canada has 2 Consulates that process K1s, in the cities of Vancouver & Montreal.

Does that mean I have to go to Montreal for my interview?!!!! Surely you jest.

teehee. That was my reaction too!
The bus isn't too bad if you need a cheap way to get there.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresChange in "Last Update" but no new status

I dont think they continue to update the online status once your petition is sent to the NVC, you have to contact the NVC for status, and the NVC doesn't have online status you have to call them...someone correct me if I am wrong here

Correct.
OP, you'll have to call the NVC 603-334-0700 and speak to an operator, the automated system doesn't work for K1s. It takes about 10 days to get to the NVC and in their system.

For what it's worth, I have my Visa and my case status still has it's November message of 'case pending approval'.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAnother photo question
It might just be a Canadian passport picture thing, that way they can justify the $12 for 2 pics

And I just re-read the original question...sorry, it's early :)

You'll need 1 for the I-129F, make a photocopy for the duplicate package, you've checked that your medical wants 3 pics (mine wanted 1) and I needed 2 at the interview. All those will be 2" x 2" and no stamp so Staples will be good for those. You'll have extras, make a collage!

Your Canadian passport will need 2 at whatever their specs are with the stamp.
Canuck CarrieFemaleCanada2006-03-02 07:26:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAnother photo question
The 'stamp' is what photo places put on the back of pics for your passport, it's for the guarantor to sign.
It says something along the lines of:
I ceritfy that this is: _____________ signed: _____________ and the guarantor fills in the blanks.

Cristy, my pics for my passport had the stamp with the date they were taken, make sure you specify no stamp if you're using them for immigration.

Canuck CarrieFemaleCanada2006-03-02 07:06:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAnother photo question
Any pictures that you will be using to apply for your passport will need the stamp, any for immigration will not need the stamp.

Go to a photo place and ask them to put 6 pics on a 4" x 6" sheet, cut them yourself.

Your Visa fee at the consulate will be $100, other than the $170 for filing your I-129f, that is the only form filing fee you will have before moving to the States.
Canuck CarrieFemaleCanada2006-03-05 21:24:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHas anyone been denied because of a lack of income?
Luckily, Vancouver and Montreal are not as strict as say the Philipines. Even being just a little bit over is sufficient for them from what I have read on here. Saying that, I'm not sure what the 'magic' amount is as the I-134 does not have a minimum $ requirement, unlike the I-864 which follows the poverty guidelines.

If there was a denial you would be able to submit your co-sponsor forms to rectify it, it would delay your Visa issuance but you wouldn't be completely denied.
Canuck CarrieFemaleCanada2006-03-06 15:50:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThey kept my fiancees packet!!!

I have a couple of questions concerning this as well. I realize that we have to have originals of birth certificate, divorce decrees and transcripts from the IRS. My first question is what about in my situation where I was married until last fall? I've been told that because I had to file jointly in 2003 and 2004 that I have to send my original W-2 forms for those years to show how much I made individually.

I'm also wondering about the snail mail letters from my fiance that he has written to me. They won't take those.....or will they? :( I mean obviously having my fiance get his visa and being here is most important, but I think everyone here can understand the importance of being able to keep originals of the letters he has handwritten to me for sentimental reasons.

All the original boarding passes and baggage tickets from the airlines? Do they keep those at the K-1 interview too or do they return them ? Will we need those later at any point for the AOS interview?

So my final question is this, really. Is there any way to keep our 'sentimental' orginal stuff used for evidence of our ongoing relationship.

Thanks for you help.

I can help answer parts of yours :)

Montreal will not ask for proof of your relationship but if you're concerned bring copies of the envelopes to your interview.

We sent copies of boarding passes with our I-129f petition, and were not asked to provide the originals at any stage.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhen can employment start

Unfortunately your fiance cannot work without EAD. You have to get officially married, then he has to apply for AOS and EAD with it. Note that he cannot apply for EAD without applying for AOS first or together with it. When he would apply for EAD he would be applying as c (9) from the list of options they give you on the form. Read the guides on this website, they are very helpful :)

He can apply for the EAD before filing for AOS but it would expire when the K1 expires (90 days from entry). That would be a c (6), Nonimmigrant Fiance(e) of U.S. Citizen (found that info in the Guides)

Just a question about packet 3, if anyone has any ideas on how to make it easier please let me know. Do I immediately call the Dr for a medical or do I have to get everything else done first?

Go ahead and call the doctor for your appointment. I just indicated my appt. date on my checklist as I was sending it back before my appt. I even sent the checklist back before having my police certificate

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThe RCMP don't really take 150 days, do they?
1. I'm not sure. In Toronto I did not have to show anything to request my name clearance but I have heard that others did have to show something.
You might want to ask in the Canada section of the Regional Discussion area of Visa Journey http://www.visajourn...hp?showforum=93

2. Yes, you will need to order one. I'm not sure what Province you were born in, but you can Google for the info.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThe RCMP don't really take 150 days, do they?
The name check only takes 4 business days to come back in downtown TO, I can't recall what the info said about fingerprints. Bring your packet 3 stuff just in case. You don't need it if you aren't in a rush, that might help it along.

And if you were born here, you will also need your long form birth certificate. Ontario has just started doing it online which seems pretty quick.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNew member, same worries...

It seems that the California office is now processing packages from December 31st (as of March 7th). That's about 3 months or so of a backlog. I knew it would be roughly 2-2.5 months, so I guess that's about where I expected it. With a bit of quick help if known, say I file in a month or so, and it's still 3 months behind, so it'd be until...July until it's being processed (roughly). How long may it take to go through the motions then? Or is the longest waiting period just them GETTING to it, then from there it's a bit smoother?

Thanks ;)

Where in Ontario are you? If you don't want to put it publicly send me a PM. :)

Oh, I'm in Grimsby. That's between Hamilton and St. Catharines...which is about 30 minutes from the border :)

If you check my timeline (click on my user name) you should be able to get a guesstimate of how long the process will take for you. The CSC seems to have slowed down a little more since we filed though.
