Here is the URL for downloading and printing immigration forms you may need. If your new to this process, breath deeply cause its going to be a roller-coaster ride you may or may not want to take. Think positive, hope for the best but be aware that the U.S government can still deny, or reject a petition at any time (something no one seems to discuss)

I am just wondering if anyone else uses Skype as a means of talking to their fiance??

I am wondering if making a copy of our call history from there would be enough proof.

We solely use Skype to talk, not the phone, plus we email each other daily as well.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMarriage outside the U.S. on a K-1 visa
QUOTE (Jason-Sasha @ Oct 29 2007, 09:13 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
My darling Sasha and I hope to be together by spring 2008. We want to get married soon after her arrival in an attempt to adjust her status sooner than later. We have also decided to celebrate the occasion with a very small, private wedding away from our home in Virginia. Rather than spending loads of money for a large formal wedding that will only satisfy relatives and friends, we've opted to spend very little on the actual wedding and enjoy a nice long romantic honeymoon. If we spend thousands and thousands on a wedding, we will not be able to take a nice honeymoon together. We would like to take off for somewhere tropical, marry there, vacation for a week, then come home. I'm not sure if she will be able to travel to the Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Barbados, or other Carribean Islands. Is it possible?? Or perhaps we will be limited to somewhere within the U.S. We would settle for Florida or Hawaii, but would prefer to go to the Carribean. I'm sure if I researched enough online I would find the answers, but I'm medicated right now for a severe migraine and I'm feeling quite lazy. So, thanks for anyone who can answer this for me definitively.

Also, does it matter if we get married in any place other than our home state? Thanks again...

My fiance and I are planning on having the "legal" marriage perfomed in the US and then having a small wedding with our families in Mexico after I get my papers to travel.

Hello everyone,

I live in Kelowna, British Columbia and I'm wondering if I can have the medical exam for the K-1 done here in Kelowna, or if I have to go to Vancouver where I will have my interview?

Also, any idea how much the cost is for the exam in Canada?

I was going to post this in the Canadian forums but I couldn't figure out how.... sorry about that.

Thanks for your replies!

The consulate advises people not to give up there residency and jobs until AFTER your visa is issued, Even after a successful interview, you may find yourself in administrative processing which can take many months.
By law, you are only required to give two weeks notice to terminate your employment so you really don't need to worry about this until AFTER you have your visa.

I have never heard of them contacting an employer to verify employment.

Thanks everyone. I was hoping not to have to tell my employer until I knew exactly when I would be leaving and only maybe a month in advance of leaving so they have time to replace me, but I thought if there was a chance they might be getting contacted I should at least give them a heads up. Now I know I don't have to!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCanadian awaiting packet 3
QUOTE (slamber2578 @ Dec 9 2007, 02:40 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
My name is David and I am currently living in Edmonton, Alberta I have yet to recieve my packet3 from the embassy, but since im so gung-ho about getting work done im trying to get some of the paper work out of the way while im waiting for the NVC to forward my case to the Vancouver, B.C. embassy. My Fiancé has had her I-129F petition approved by the USCIS(on November 28, 2007) and it is currently being sent to the NVC in New Hampshire, USA.

My first question is about the "Police certificate from all places lived since age 16." Is that just a normal criminal record check i would use for employment purposes. Also, can i get that done at any police station here in Edmonton, Alberta(i have lived here all my life and never lived anywhere else), where i live, or is there specific boundaries that need to be met?

My 2nd question is about the "Proof of status is Canada" requirement i found on the "visa_vancouver.pdf" found here: http://www.amcits.co...a_vancouver.pdf ..Is a Larged sized Birth certificate from an Alberta registry of vital statistics enough?

My last question is about the medical examination. I am unsure of what type of documentation you require as proof of completing.

I have read about 23 pages worth if threads in this forum, but none of them were in regards to Canadian applicants

In regards to your question about the criminal record check. I just called the RCMP the other day to see if getting one from them would be enough since I've lived in several cities. They figured it would but I plan on asking an immigration lawyer just to be sure.

I would think a birth certificate would be enough to prove of your Canadian status as really that is the only way to prove it, I would think.

As for the medical examination I do not know. I was under the impression they would give you the paperwork needed to take to the medical exam.

I have a question for you though. I am a Canadian, also living in Edmonton, just starting the K-1 visa process, is Vancouver where they send us for the interview? There is a consulate in Calgary as well. Do they not handle K-1 visas there? Or did you request the Vancouver consulate??

I'm trying to fill in that survey, however, it wants me to fill n information that I do not have. It's asking for my "Control number" as seen in this picture

.. however, my j-1 looks nothing like this. The only proof that I had a J-1 at all, besides my DS-2019, would be a stamp in my passport that says "J-1" in the officer's scribble.

Is this normal?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresJ-1 Home res. requirements. Funded by the Gov?
to start with, we havn't filed the forms yet. (this would be the researching stage) smile.gif

Last summer, I went and lived in Seattle, Wa. with my boyfriend. I was able to stay and work there for 4 months on a J-1. I am aware of the home resedency requirements, however, I'm not sure if I'm applicable. I checked my DS-2019, and neither "yes" nor "no" was ticked. D: ( I should file and RFE with them!)

my question is sort of silly. The only reason that would apply to me to make me have to stay in canada becuase of the HRR would be if I was funded by the government. I don't think I was. I never recieved any notice of being funded. Is there any way to tell if I'm required to stay in canada for another year due to funding issues?

While in Seattle, I didn't work for the government, or have any government training or anything.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-129F -Q. 18, detail??
Hello all again,

Well, we've started filling in our I-129F, and I've got a question about question 18. Where we fill out the circumstances under which [we] met.

I looked at the example online, but what was writen there ("(mark additional sheet as "I-129F Supplement: Part B, Question 18: Has your Fiance(e) met and seen you)" didn't make a whole lot of sense... Do we write that?
or is it refering to the additional sheet that we add into the files. In that case, what do we write in the box?

I know this is a really confusing question, but any insight of what you wrote in there would be greatly appreciated.

~Michelle

P.s. what kind of detail is needed? so far all I have is that we met online and here are a bazzillion dates where we've traveled to each other's countries. How many dates should we show??

Great site! Very helpful!

I have a question about the documents which fiancée is required to bring to the interview at the embassy. I know a copy of the Divorce Certificate for the previous marriage is needed. But what about a Marriage Certificate from the previous marriage??? I ran across this info on one site in a process descriptions section.

Did embassy request a copy of the Marriage Certificate for the previous marriage from anyone? Or is a Divorce Certificate enough?

I'm assuming you are the non-US-citizen...

You actually never have to be a U.S. citizen at all.. The K-1 and the I-485 afterwards only gets you resident status, not citizen...

But after a few years you can apply for U.S. citizenship.. If acquired, you don't forfeit your current citizenship, and would therefore have dual citizenship...

At our k-1 interview our Interviewer asked us "why the rush" (we met in July 06, travelled back and forth once a month for visits and our interview was in January 07). We told him we were both in our 30's and that we had both been married before and knew what we were looking for. He was totally satisfied with that. I believe you should apply for a K1 visa while resident in the US . I am not sure if the K1 is open to LPRs so you would have to file a petition after you obtain your citizenship. The whole process takes about 6-9 months depending on how fast your consulate processes the case.

I am a permanent resident in florida. I should be a us citizen by august/ september, 2007. I am currently engaged, to a girl in india and i was wondering, i would be able to apply for k1 visa from india or do i have to apply for k1 visa from the US. If so what is the process and how long should it take for her to receive k1 visa.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 Question
Maybe what the OP ment was that he is permanently residing in the US? incorrect choice of words since it could mean LPR.

"Also, the I-129F asks for a G-325A form. I don't understand how one is to fill that out, as I am a permanent resident and have no Alien Registration Number, and she doesn't have an Alien Registration Number either. Am I missing something?"

If you are a citizen then you cannot be a permanent resident. Or maybe that's what you meant by calling yourself a permanent resident. It's rather confusing.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDoes Divorce need to be final before applying? + other question
As long as your divorce is finalized you can file a petition for a K1 visa.

Does the divorce have to be final before you apply?

My fiancee said that if he comes to usa on tourist visa and marries me, he can stay? Is that right?

I read some depressing stuff on a petition, but it seemed to apply more to getting the spouse to usa, is this fiancee visa jsut as bad or is it pretty easy? How much money total does it cost if you do it yourself? And is it 4-6 months or so?

Yes as the others said you have to be free to marry before filing the (K1 Visa) or else you will get rejected.
No he cant come and stay with you and just marry and stay for good, you guys might want to file K1 Visa.
Read the guides here on VJ and you guys can look into K1 K3 etc.

Fees are being increased starting July 30th. The total cost will probably be in the $3000 range by the time your fiancee applies for citizenship. But you dont have to pay all the fees at once. And citzienship is optional.

Yep the fees are going to be higher starting from 30 July 2007 : http://www.uscis.gov...edule052907.pdf

I was divorced in Feb and the waiting period to remarry is in August. Do I have to wait until August to start the filing? That was my question.
