I was looking through the medical questionnaire the other day and came to the question 'Have you ever had any mental disorder or depression?'

A couple of years ago I went to the doctors with symptoms of depression so he asked me to complete a questionnaire. After that he told me he thought I had mild depression and referred me to a young persons counsellor for a couple of sessions. Because I wasn't put on medication and not officially diagnosed (I don't think it went on my medical record) should I answer yes to this question?

Yeah I don't think it'd anything to worry about. I went to the doctors too with PTSD after my mum died and he referred me to a counsellor. I had one session and never went back, and I don't think it went on my record. At least I hope not, because the last thing we need is to be accused of lying. tongue.gif

I think I'll check about it when I go and get my vaccination records. If it did go on my record I'll get them to write a letter or something.

Hello Laura and everyone,

Where did you get the info on the medical, I'd like to see it? Also about the shots, anyone know where I could see the list? Another question about the shots, in the province where I live, we have a booklet with all the shots we recceive. Is that enough to show at USCIS medical exam? I takes forever to see a doctor here so I want to start and get ready now.

Thanks for your help!

I am assuming you are going to Montreal so here is the medical stuff, however for some reason it doesn't inc the questionnaire http://travel.state....L-0001-0810.pdf

I'm sure the questionnaire is the same as the London medical so if you scroll to the end you'll find it here http://travel.state....L-0001-0810.pdf

However if it isn't Montreal (and if anyone else wants info) then you can select your panel physican from the drop down list here http://travel.state..../info_3739.html

And here is the vaccination list, it's from the London Embassy in the UK but it should be the same. You should be able to find it on your embassy website. Note the vaccinations are age specific. http://www.usembassy...ccinechart.html

I told Andrew about going to his local and getting his vaccinations. Now does he have to have a copy of his records or when he goes for his physical in London will that have access?

Thanks

He will have to get a vaccination record from his doctor to take to the medical. They won't have any access to his records.

Well we are still waiting for our cheque to be cashed and our NOA1. VSC received the petition on 6th Oct.

Seems it is quick for some and not for others.

This is my first post! I filed our petition on October 20th via Priority Mail. It was received on October 23rd, the check was cashed on October 24th, and I received the NOA1 (with an October 23rd receive date) on October 31st...Halloween, my favorite holiday!

Now we're trying to figure out answers to all our questions about the next steps....but we're both being very patient and positive about everything =).

Hi welcome! If you have any questions feel free to ask.

We shall probably have less than a dozen people in attendance, as none of her family shall be attending, and besides my immediate relatives, I am not expecting anyone else. The ceremony in Thailand shall be the big wedding with the entire village in attendance.

I like the idea of engraving something special inside the wedding bands, whether it's each other's names or another significant phrase.

Tom has had something engraved on mine but it's a suprise.

as for wedding bands we are both very simple people so we will probably both get simple gold bands. I'm thinking of having his name engarved in mine with the date and vise versa...is that corny?it seems like a great i dea when i think about it, but now that i wrote it down, it looks a little corny....LOL

we also want something small with close family and friends...i'm hoping for 50-60 people

Wow, our ceremony is practically tiny then lol. Only about 12 people and some of those will be base personnel as its expected that you invite the base commander. The reception will be bigger though. About 30 lol.

i'm just so excited talking about weddings smile.gif

Tell me about it! I love chatting about weddings.

We are not following tradition at all. Tom and I are basically paying half each with the wedding. Luckily it's only a small ceremony. His parents can't afford to contribute and my parents offered me some money for either the wedding or to furnish the house. I chose the house as we will need everything new. Basically I'm paying for my dress, flowers, bridesmaid stuff, invitations and Tom is paying for (well I haven't told him yet lol) the best man's suit, marriage license, and chapel donation. Then we will both pay for the food at the reception and may also have to pay to fly his parents from PA.

We are also going halves with all the visa application costs.

Wedding rings?!?!

I was looking at sites online for some ideas. I believe I speak for my fiancee and myself when I say that we prefer simple. But now I wonder, do we spend a little extra and buy platinum or save on white gold? I would be willing to spend $1,000 on hers and just buy myself a $50 titanium ring. Do I go cheap on myself, or do I treat myself?

Generally I do not wear any jewelry whatsoever, not even a wristwatch. I would be quite willing to wear the wedding ring as a sign of my commitment , however opulence does not attract me.

Is it customary for a man to select both rings or the couple to choose together?

How is this going for the rest of you?

I read somewhere it was customary for the groom to buy the brides ring and visa versa but that might be UK custom.

Tom and I have agreed on our rings. Infact he went about bought mine last week and it got a really good deal on it. Being in Bahrain, which is famous for its gold and jewellery, he was able to barter a plain 4mm platinum band for $400. Him and a colleague kept saying 'Well, next door can offer it a bit cheaper than that.' I think they got the guy down from $500 which is still cheap! Now this is where I feel a bit guilty as he wants a carbon fibre band which is only $80. I told him this and he said to stop being silly as that is what he wants.

I think you should go with what you want especially if you might feel uncomfortable wearing it. I know I'd be a bit uncomfortable wearing a $1000 ring as I would be constantly making sure I didn't lose it!

And Anne is right about white gold. If you plan on having a white gold engagement ring and wedding ring on the same finger, be prepared for them will rub against each other so the coating will wear down revealing the yellow gold underneath. This is mainly the reason I went with platinum as I don't wear yellow gold.

app-girl, thank you for the information. Please be sure to include a link to the page, so others may reference it.

I do not agree with the advice to wait for the Civil Surgeon appointment. From my understanding he or she shall charge a large sum of money for such services that can be obtained free elsewhere e.g. my fiancee getting through her medical insurance in her country or through my medical insurance here.

App-girl - If you can get it free on the NHS then go for it, lots of people in the UK forum have, there's no point in getting vaccinations at the medical if you can get it free a week before.

ThaitoUSA - thanks for the link, unfortunately the vaccine programme is only for 12-13 year olds in the UK at the moment hence why my course would be $200 a shot. But it is definately a lot cheaper in the US so will try and get it done there.

I presume it's most effective prior to being sexually active, so that one is inoculated before exposure. Since the likelihood is that you are only going to be with one partner from now on and either have already been exposed or not, then there is no point in getting it. I got you now.

Perhaps Tom can find out if it would be cheaper to obtain here in America.

He's going to check when he gets back to the US in February. I've heard that you can get it cheaper but not sure whereabouts.

I am 24 so I do have to have it. The National Health Service site states that the HPV vaccination is designed for girls aged 12-18 before they become sexually active. They state that it is not cost effective giving it to somone in their 20's as it will offer no protection at all unless you've never had sex. My nurse confirmed this and was suprised that I had been told I had to have it. She then told me the cost as, due to my age of course, I can't receive it for free under the NHS. Equiv of $200 a shot and three shots are required for it to be fully effective. In reality you only need to get the first shot for AOS purposes so unless you fork out for the next two shots you never will be fully 'protected'.

All emigrants to America must receive required vaccinations at some point. For the K-1 Visa, it can be done in their home country before coming over or in America before applying for Adjustment of Status (AOS).

There are lists available from USCIS's website as well as local consulates' websites.

My fiancee just informed me that she is able to get vaccinated for free in her home country, so I am encouraging her to get them in the next few months before her interview. One less thing to do once she gets here.

Luckily I can get most of mine free except the controversial HPV vaccine. It's the biggest waste of money, even my nurse said that.

How could it be any time in January? It seems like the average has been at least four months. Looking at several VSC filers who have been receiving petitions over the last month most are between 120 to 135 days. That would be corroborated by the processing time information at the top of this page, which had be showing about 130 days on average; up until this week when it climbed to 140 days.

130 days from October 1 would be mid-February. Since mine was mailed after the 15th of October, I would not expect anything until the end of February or beginning of March. The estimated adjudication date range is mid to the end of March. With some indications of a slowdown (USCIS adjusting it's timeframe backward and several VJ May and June filers who have yet to be adjudicated, which would be 5 to 6 months already), we might not be seeing NOA2 until end of March into April.

I am not certain if anyone else is in a similar situation, but my fiancee shall not be available to come here until after mid-July 2009. So whether we get it in April or May has very little bearing on our plans. We even accept that it could be until after July until we get the visa. Of course we wish to be together as soon as possible, but getting our visa in May won't facilitate that. So I am resigned. Resigned to wait until July or after if necessary.

I really wish I could bottle and sell patience!

I'm not expecting to leave for at least 3-4 months after my visa is granted, mainly due to my job and sorting out lots of stuff. I see some people leave about three days after their visa is given.

Tom will probably start completing the I-134 stuff after Christmas too so he can bring it over when he comes over in February. Only problem is he will be starting at a new base in Feb but I assume the employers letter will be good enough from the old base since he is still with the USAF?

That's very true.. it usually costs us around $800-1000 from London to Boston, which is 3000 miles. It's not a lot in comparison to most places, but it is when you're living on a student loan and booking 4 flights a year. tongue.gif That's $3,000-4,000 of my budget gone. This leaves me with $6,000 for the year! Of course, I don't regret a thing. As long as my rent is paid, my ticket is booked and there's food in my cupboard, I shouldn't complain.

Oooooh, wishing you a good time for Thanksgiving... and hoping you either finally get a reply or that another package is successfully sent.

$800-1000 seems quite a lot. For when I leave the UK I've been doing some costings for a direct flight to Atlanta and it's coming up at about £294 which is approx $459. That's going with Delta on expedia.co.uk. Granted my flights to PA via Detroit were $1600. I suppose it depends where you are flying to. We are hoping Tom will be able to fly to the UK, attend my leaving party and fly back with me but it's looking doubtful at the moment as he's not sure if he'll have enough leave. My parents said they would pay for his flights but it all depends on the leave. It's weird in the military.

A Christmas trip to Bahrain is also out of the question as the prices have rocketed. Plus what with Tom working nights I would never even get to see him.

I think it would be nice to get to know some of the people in this thread, if you don't mind of course. You don't have to give names if you don't want. Things like what you do for a living and what you like to, how you met and what you are doing to pass the time waiting for approval.

Well, I'm Laura and my fiance is Tom (as you can tell by my username!). I work for the Ministry of Defence working alongside the RAF here in the UK and Tom is a SSgt in the USAF currently working in Bahrain. We met in May 2007 on plentyoffish.com when he was stationed here in the UK. I like shopping(!), watching films, reading and am hoping to learn how to work on cars. Tom is a massive car nut and is determined to get me a project car to work on. At the moment I'm kind of passing the time by planning the wedding. Currently the invites are keeping me busy. I am also getting ready for Christmas. I love this time of year and it's sort of making the waiting bearable. Am also counting down the days until Tom comes back to the UK in February for a week before he goes back to the US. The time I saw him was in August. I would love to see him in December but the flights are just too expensive and he wouldn't get any time off.

Sorry I didnt check that thread yet, when i'm too sad about this progress i hate to go in here tongue.gif
But as for now we sended it in 2 days ago, I have the tracking number and everything will be fine, it shows that it should arriave at vermont on 4th November, but I still count myself as October filer after this long and hard journey already so far xD

But i'm very sorry to hear that the same thing happend to you, did you also use vermont? Remember to send it via fedex or something and get the tracking number, we didnt do it before and its such a relief to know where our papers is at in the world.

We never used any layers, but did it all ourselfs, but I hope that it will work out this time for both of us, keep me updated!
Best of luck smile.gif

I agree – hence the reason why I’ve avoided VJ for a while. My documents reached the US today so my fiance will be picking it up Monday and send it off on Tuesday. As mentioned before, we didn’t know the whole process and we were referred by one of our friends of this lawyer who had a great experience with them so we decided to retain their services. They were just ridiculous- but im not going to go into details as it frustrates me thinking about it! mad.gif
We’re Vermont filers also and my fiance will be sending it via fedex so really optimistic about this third time filing lol. Will definitely keep you posted!

Good luck!

Looking over other's timelines, there have been many people who waited over 2 weeks for their checks to be cashed/issued NOA1 (they seem to occur concurrently). I like what you originally stated about not panicing until a month has passed. I say give it this week, if still nothing, then you can take aditional steps. During that wait, you can contact UPS and double check that it had indeed been received at VSC.

Oh, a thought just popped in my mind. Did you happen to note on the outside of the package "I-129f Original Submission" or something like that?

lol No...damn was I supposed to?

My guess is it's probably floating around USCIS somewhere, though the first they do is open it to get the cheque so they would see which department it would have to go to.

I've started planning stuff which isn't affected by the date of our wedding. Today I started to draw up an invite list for the wedding and BBQ afterwards. I've also started to make my invitations, I'll just leave the inserts until we have a date and location. I'm also looking at the cost of rented tuxes for the best man, though I feel like letting Tom sort that out. Tom is lucky as he will be wearing uniform.

Ah I see, that's good then!

I can't wait to start planning properly. Most of the stuff is sorted. I've decided on a colour scheme of cream andn chocolate brown. My mum is making my dress, I've seen the flowers I want, they are silk so will last longer and we are having the reception at the house in the form of a BBQ. We just can't book the chapel until I know when I'm going over.

We're thinking of traveling to the Caribbean, where my parents live, to get married on their island. I've already given close friends/family some notice, so that if everything goes through, they may join us. Originally I was hoping to get away with eloping, however it seems like a proper wedding is in the works.

Have any other October filers begun wedding plans?

If you are filing for the K1 you have to get married in the US. You could have a non legal wedding or blessing in the Caribbean though.

We are getting married on Maxwell AFB but arn't going to book anything until I know my interview date.

Totally off topic but I just had a brand new haircut to make me feel better and I think it worked! It's a bit different but easy to look after.

I know what you mean, "the hair high" you get after you have been to the salon! star_smile.gif
That makes me want to go!

I think I needed some colours put in too, but I'll save that for another day. The salon's are so expensive where I live.
