As Affidavits are not a neccessity in the I-751 application, As long as you have plenty of other supporting documentss, they may not even care about the Affidavits, and overlook them entirely.

PhilippinesWaiting..... Waiting
I wonder if your kids never mentioning Gretchen is really because they have learnt to avoid the family drama, or they have been manipulated into being deceptive, or the kicker...they really are not all that accepting of Gretchen as you think. They might avoid talking about her because they maybe feel ashamed, that they now have a stepmother close in age to themselves, and hoped you would get the hint. Just a thought.

Middle East and North AfricaFirst day Home Alone!!!!
Ya know, it really makes you take a step back, and think about the creature comforts we have in the western world that make our chores easier, and how we take them for granted. It must be daunting for someone to come into our part of the World, and see all these things, and go ####### do I do with this, or how do I use this, or what is it for!!

And the people are genuinely amazed and overwhelmed by it.

Heaven help my kids if they ever had to go back to manual labour washing the dishes, they have grown up in the dishwasher age!!

Deemabrouk, your story was genuinely enlightening, and heartwarming....

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIs any military guy or spouse here?
Ok,..you obviously didnt read my post CLEARLY.

Germany is cost cutting,.. NAF jobs are not being filled as they are emptied. The area over here is seriously in debt, and one way of fixing this is by not filling NAF jobs. They are not filling many jobs at all at present with LN as they cost more to hire. I know all about the agreement at federaljobs.com, but that has been overridden at the moment with the cost cutting measures here in Germany. They even had to reduce numbers in theses jobs rcently, and people lost their jobs!!

I never said there was specific hiring requirements preventing people from getting the jobs,.....Its the lack of funding here, thats preventing the jobs to LN employees. I am living in Germany, where the original poster referrred to. This is the CURRENT situation, right here, right now!!

I respect the fact that you have been in the military 16 years,....my husband has been in 13. But it does not mean you know whats going on over here at present.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIs any military guy or spouse here?
Ok,..just to clear a few things up,...

Because you are NOT a US citizen, you will not be able to get a Federal Government job on base unless the job description indicates that people other than US citizens apply. There are not as many of those jobs as US citizen jobs, but they are there. Secondly, if you want to work for someeone like AAFES, you will be employed as a local national. And you will have to pay a seperate health insurance because of this. Technically, when you do this, you are not entitled to the benefits of on base medical, even though you are a US dependant. Some people I know are sneaky, and do not mention they work as Local nationals, just so they can attend the base medical clinic. The way the military sees it, is if you pay for medical , you can go off base, and claim it back, overall it saves the MILITARY $$. To avoid this, you can get a job, at a concessionaire on base, who are usually local people running it, and pay cash.

Thirdly,...

Local nationals are not preferred over US citizens for positions at AAFES and such. There is no preference. They tend to steer more towards the US citizens now though, because you get paid less as a US citizen,....IM not saying its not impossible, but it aint easy!! I had a friend here recently working as a LN, and was being restationed to another post here in Germany with her Husband. She knew there were jobs available in the same position she was doing at the new post, but the people did not want to re-hire her, becaue as the LN's leave, they wont replace them to save the $$... But she went to the union, and beat the system!!

I Have lived here in Germany for 2 1/2 years now, and thats the way its been the whole time Ive been here, and tends to be the same Germany wide at present. The Army here are on a cost cutting exercise, so if you manage to get your self a Job as a local national, they will enforce the use of the private medical that you pay for working as such,...I think it runs to the amount of about 20-30$ per pay for the medical insurance.

I do believe that if you get a job here then loose your job , as a local national , you are entitled to claim unemployment from the German government.

Also, if you have children, you can claim a benefit for having kids, I think its called Kindergeld.

Hope this helps a lil bit,..

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMilitary orders
We are also in Germany,...I moved to the USA in Dec 03, married feb 04, and moved to Germany Mar 04 due to orders. I have since, done AOS, and Removed conditions,..as expedited Citizenship was not offered to me at the time, and I was unaware of it til 12 months ago, and by that stage, I had already applied to Lift conditions.

I live near Frankfurt. My hubby is on his second tour of Iraq since being here.

I like Germany, it has afforded us the opportunity to travel a fair bit. and with extra pay in the form of COLA, its fairly inexpensive. Good Old RYANAIR.!!!!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresTension & Depression over seperation
This was copied and pasted from a post I did in the downunder thread a week or so ago,...

I just did a quick calculation,.
Since the first time hubby and I met in real life May 2002, I worked out the amount of time we have spent together. I calculated our actual time together as a couple,.
May 2002 to Oct 2007, so far ( i didnt calculate, the previous 11 months we talked before we actually met). In that time, minus, his two deployments to Iraq, visa waiting time, his away on school time, his training time pre deployment, and 3 months when I had to go home to look after my kids,..we have had a total time together of 17 months. and thats out of a total of 65 months, or 5 years and 5 months....BIG SIGH....

Just to put things in perspective...And I know what I was getting into when I married him, just wanted to tell my lil piece about the seperations i have faced, and believe me, i have had my dpressed moments also!!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresRemoving Conditional Residence
No interview required, and as Catie said, Fingerprints (biometrics) are now taken either on base, or at the US embassy also now in Germany. Back when i did mine, they did not have the option to do the fingerprints here, I had to fly back to the States for it,..But, I was flying back for Christmas anyways, at the time, so it was no big deal.

Just be aware, that, they do randomly just select people for interview, but the chances that you will are highly unlikely. I think the fact you are military helps a lot with that. If you are unlucky enough for your wife to be selected for interview, she can attend on her own, ifyou are deployed. Thats what i had to do with my AOS interview at the time. Just had to have a letter from my hubbus command, and a copy of deployment orders.

Good luck with it all. I am sorry I took so long to reply, I only just saw that you responded to me in the thread. If you have any specific questions, just PM me. I am more likely to see a PM, then see when a thread has been replied too,..lol

Ok,..I didn't have to do anything as i have my greencard already.
But I'll tell you what happened with my girls today.

Our appointment was at 10am. We got there at 9am, and were allowed in straight away, after getting a sequence number, then going through security.
There is a man near the front door inside the second building, who asks to see your sequence number. Ours started with a "W". From that he knew that we were there for Immigrant Visas.

We were instructed to go pay the fees at I think it was window 23, then take a seat, and wait for our number to be called again. Our number was then called to go to window 22?, and hand over the ds-230 part II, and one photo for each, as well as the girls passports. We were then given a big brown envelope, and an instruction sheet. We had to purchase stamps for the envelope from a machine in the lobby, and sort the required documents according to the list.

We were then called up to window 21 and asked to hand over the affidavits and supporting documentation for that, as well, as birth certificates, plus a copy each. She asked me about the custody letter that had been written by the girls biological father. She also asked if we had had medicals that morning, and I said, No, they were completed on the 25th Feb. She went, Oh, and said I'll be right back. she got back about 2 minutes later with the medicals in her hot lil hand, and apologised for them not already being in the file. She then explained about the passports being stamped upon entry to the states, and that is valid to use to come and go till the green cards arrive. Also explained about not opening the 2 brown envelopes, that will be inside the big one we placed stamps on. She also said the passports will be inside the envelope they provided, and not inside the other envelopes, so they will be readily acessible. I said, it's ok, I understand about that, as I have been through the K1 visa process, and she smiled and said, ok, thats all take a seat, and your number will be called again.

We were then called to window 17, and the consular officer asked each of the girls their names, so he knew who was who. He then asked my husband ( the petitioner), to sign the DS230 part II on behalf of the kids, as they were under 16.
He then asked the girls to then place their fingers on the biometric reader, and took their fingerprints.
He had a quick shuffle through the paperwork, then said, OK, all is good we will be issuing the visas. We will send it all out as explained previously by my comrade. You should have it in about 5 working days.
Then wished us a good day, and that was it!

Not a single question for the kids, except, who is who!
We were walking out the door at 1010am!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUS Military filing for Fiancee visa
Ok,....speaking from personal experience. I would put your Mothers address. Thats what we did. My hubby is military as well. Just found that one point of contact was much easier, and less chance of USCIS paperwork getting lost. We simply got his Mom to open relevant USCIS mail, let us know what was in it, then forward it to us registered mail if necessary. We currently live in Germany under orders, and still use his mothers address whilst currently doing Lifting of Conditions.

It's not as hard as it seems, its only as hard as you wanna make it!!

Good luck with it all
