CanadaNew Year's Eve 2008/2009
We are headed to Los Angeles....already got a hotel room lined up... Well actually, it's me, my hubby and his mom. He brought his mom and I grandstand tickets near the start of the parade for the New Years Day, Tournament of Roses "Rose Parade".(xmas Presents) And becasue it starts at 8am,..and you have to be there an hour before it starts, we decided to stay overnight,..as we live 2.5 hours away from L.A. Hubby is not going to the parade,.., he's driving us down there, having dinner with us, and we will celebrate the new year quietly sipping on a few coldies..and he's gunna chill in the hotel room while the parade is on. He didn't wanna do anything big,..just wanted to spend the evening with us,..as the last 2 NYE's he has been in Iraq,..so this will be a nice quiet, comfortable change for him,..

CanadaPotato Chips in Sandwiches
I do that all the time. The thing i thought was weird when I first got here was that the chips come as a sandwich accopaniment here, and usually a pickle as well,.....I was like WTH??!!!...Now I am just used to it.

Hubby laughed at me the first time I had a sandwich with chips in it,..nothing else, just chips. must be a british/aussie thing,....becasue we do the hot chips in buttered bread as well, and the brits call that a "buttie"

Tonight is tacos. I made some fresh pico de gallo yesterday.

Stacey do you have a recipe for that,...I know its tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and in some cases a hot pepper,..but I would love a recipe for the quantities?

I don't really follow a recipe. I made quite a big batch so I would cut it down if it's only for a few people.

8-10 tomatoes ( I pick ones that look nice and not too ripe) I take out the seeds.
1 red onion
1 sweet white onion
5-6 jalapenos (I take the seeds out)
2-3 bell peppers (I like orange, yellow, red for the colours)
1 bunch cilantro
3 or 4 fresh limes juiced
kosher salt

I just chop everything and mix.

Tonight is crock pot chicken fricassee. Served with peas, steamed carrots, brown or whole grain rice.

TY so much Miss Stacey!

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusAlla Graduates, Finally!
Gary, I did not infer anything in relation to Alla's ability to teach, my question was more focussed on why you in fact proof read for someone who planned to teach English. I just did not think that someone who was majoring in English or the study of it needed to be proofread..

I have in fact over the years read quite a few of your threads about her education, and in fact admired her tenaciousness and work ethic in relation to study. Stop reading so much into my original question. Like i said before, I was going to thank you for you explanation of that, until you got insulting towards me.

Your intelligence is now clouding your common sense.

You seem to take offence to the smallest of things, and simplest of questions. I tend to think that someone who will actually try to insult you one day, you won't take seriously, and be none the wiser.

And next time anyone wants ( I won't name, names here) to ask if I am in fact a troll, please ask me directly. Just because I do not post on here as much as I used too, does not mean that some topics do not peak my interest.

It is funny how that silly avatar, that was poking fun at my big butt and small waist, has turned into such a topic of interest.

All of you need to stop stereotyping based on an avatar,....

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusAlla Graduates, Finally!

"Realise" ????? Should be "realize". "the norm" is an idiom and would not be acceptable in a university level essay. Fair enough?

So much for your Ghadi quote in your signature.

Wow!, did you really just go there with that!. I am Australian my friend, and am fluent in British English, not the English that has been technically bastardised by Americans. And its Gandhi, not Ghadi.! And when I say bastardised, I once again am not saying it in a bad way, its just a term I use (or better still, had been 'dumbed down" as you say by Americans..eg,..leaving letters out of words colour vs color, aluminium vs aluminum, get the point!).

I did not realise that people so highly educated could be so ignorant, Thank you ONA for clarifying the british/ american aspect.

And if you're curious about the Gheto A$$ comment, maybe you need to go add the study of EBONICS to your list of educational credits.( I am married to a black man , if that helps!). I asked a simple damn question, an honest to goodness question, and you my friend turned it into a personal attack on me, and dont say you didnt you damn well did.

Vj has turned into a big bitching site, plain and simple, where people feel the need to belittle others.

And finally, I know what proof reading is, I do it alot too, for others. But I have never had my own college paperwork proofread, as I am confident in my abilities, plain and simple. It is clear Ignorance is bliss in your eyes.

I was going to thank you for explaining the whole teaching thing before you turned it into an attack on me.... I apologised for my ignorance in the hope of a decent explanation to my question, that should of been a clue as to the sincerity of my question to begin with.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusAlla Graduates, Finally!

When I was in college we used to proof read each others papers on a regular bases (study groups). I proof read my wife's essay's. It's not unusual.

Ok, fair enough. I didn't realise that was the norm here. Thanks.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusAlla Graduates, Finally!
Why_me, I think you missed the point and genuiness of my question. I meant that if her hubby had to proof read things for her, does this mean that her English is not strong enough to teach English?, or she did not have enough confidence in her English abilities, this is a honest question, not trying to be mean?

Your response was more ignorant and rude than my actual question....

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusAlla Graduates, Finally!

Alla will graduate and get her MA-TESOL tomorrow after nearly three years!

She has worked very hard, both in class and also in the various jobs she had during this time and has basically been going non-stop 16-18 hours a day. She is looking forward to sleeping late for a few days. Then she is off to Ukraine for a few weeks. I will join her there later in August and come back with her. She finished with a 3.95 grade average.

I will not know what to do with myself once I get my "wife back" and I do not have to proof-read all her essays, lesson plans, etc.

Now she has to find a job teaching English. :P

Umm, please excuse my ignorance...BUT, if you had to proof read everything she did, how can she get a job teaching English,....Just askin'?

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Travelling outside Germany as a US permanent resident with just a SOFA CARD
Cathy,...As long as your country of the Phillipines is a part of the Schengen agreement you wont need a visa, Australia is, So I didnt need a visa when I travelled to Austria, France, and Amsterdam. You will need to check with Filipino consulates/embassies in the countries you wish to travel too, to see if you will need a visa. I still check with the Australian consulates site before I travel anywhere, as Visa restrictions change daily. Unfortunately, even though you have the SOFA, it wont help you to get into the other countries, it only helps you in and out of Germany specifically.

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)To all Frankfurt filers - Question
Oban, you didnt read what i said,..I said the USCIS is in the same building as the consulate. I never said the US consulate was the USCIS frankfurt!! I have already been through K1, AOS, and lifting of conditions to know the difference.!!

How many exclamations do you want to put in your reply!!!!!

As i suggested, maybe you should email the USCIS in Frankfurt direct like I did, and my friend did. I told you what I know, and you were quick to contradict.

in regards to translations,...maybe you should read the i-130 instructions,..as technically the USCIS is still processing a USCIS issued form...

this is on the i130,....

"Translations. Any foreign language document must be accompanied by a full English translation that the translator has certified as complete and correct, and by the translator'scertification that he or she is competent to translate the foreign language into English."

I recently rescheduled my daughters appointments with Frankfurt. I simply sent them an email after I got my appt dates,..explained my situation, and within 24hours, I had an email reply with new dates. They were rather nice about it, and appreciated that i contacted them as soon as i had the dates, and not leaving it til the last minute.
Simply state your case to them, be polite, and I am sure you will have no problems.

When I moved in December of 2003 from Darwin, it cost me $7200 Aud. It was moved from Darwin to Germany. I had it stored for a while, because I immigrated to the States, got married, then were on orders with the Military to Germany. We knew he was going to be on orders, thats why i had it packed up and put in storage, pending a delivery address from me. we arrived in Germany march 21, and my stuff arrived exactly 6 weeks later. I had 16 cubic metres (CM), which included about 90 boxes and furniture, everything a household could have except whitegoods. I went with Allied Pickford Removals. So my price included, international insurance, and storage costs, as well as pack up, and unpack costs...

Just dropping by to say Hi,...as we all know, my journey is for the best part complete, except Naturalization. So, I am just sitting here, waiting for my hubby to come home from Iraq. He should of been home in just over a week, as he left 2 November last year, but with the extension, it's now the end of January.*sigh*
But,..
I did file the i-130's for my daughters yesterday in Frankfurt. So, now the wait begins again. Something to keep me occupied for a while, along with slowly getting rid of junk, and excess ####### around the home that builds up. Gotta start decluttering,..as, as soon as he gets home, we should be PCSing stateside, Yes, another move across the seas, and finally, I get to spend some time stateside. Its funny really,..I have gone through k1, aos, and i-751, and in all that time, I have only really been in the US for 3 months after we married , and before we moved to Germany.

I know that I should be happy , that in a few short months hubby will be home from Iraq, but these, as if the past 11 months hasnt been enough stress!! The next few months are also going to be filled with stress. getting the girls visas, Packing up, moving, searching out schools for the kids, trying to get re-acquainted with my hubby AGAIN, finally trying to find work, and also readjusting again to another country,..(the one I was supposed to get acquainted with originally,...lmao).

I just did a quick calculation,.
Since the first time hubby and I met in real life May 2002, I worked out the amount of time we have spent together. I calculated our actual time together as a couple,.
May 2002 to Oct 2007, so far ( i didnt calculate, the previous 11 months we talked before we actually met). In that time, minus, his two deployments to Iraq, visa waiting time, his away on school time, his training time pre deployment, and 3 months when I had to go home to look after my kids,..we have had a total time together of 17 months. and thats out of a total of 65 months, or 5 years and 5 months....BIG SIGH....

Anyways, this wasnt meant to be a whinge fest, I was really trying to put things more in perspective for myself,..I knew what it would be like when we got married. I just think, since I turned the big 40 last week, Ive been on a downer.

peace everybody.
