October 4, 2005
ok, to recap, we went on a k3 interview appointment. once there, the i130 was ready and they switched us over to that process.

Hotels:
We stayed at the Fiesta Inn. it is about a 12 minute walk, or by taxi, 5 dollars.
It is a nice hotel, not the cheapest. We stayed there to get frequent milage in my mexicana account. it is a business type hotel. restaurant on premises. near a mall and other restaurants. clean. nice bed. helpful staff.

Tuesday:
Went to clinic, the one across the street from the consulate. We arrived at 8:20 am. show guard appt letter. in bld, give papers to receptionist. (take mexican passport! )
had shots taken, and paid bill. 141.75(no credit card accepted. cash only. dollars or pesos). done by 10 am.

Went to Banamex and paid $100 K3 visa fee.

Wednesday:
go to consulate. in line at 6:35am. facing the consulate, the line that goes to the right. no electronic equipment, no mirrors, etc. only applicants allowed in. Ana enters consulate 7:35am. Once inside, she goes through the process. the officer informs her that the i130 is ready and hands her a form to fill out, tells her she needs passport color photos, and a pass to come back in. Accross from the consulate are all kinds of business to assist in any kinds of needs. so, passport photos easily gotten. oh, also needed some vaccinations, went to clinic, got those. another 102 dollars. The form, it was the ds260. We simply filled it out by hand. the copies of all our other documents came in handy for reference. Ana returned to consulate. inside, she had to pay 45 dollars. i think it was the difference from we paid the immigrant visa fee earlier and what it is now.

After that, there were system failures and all around mess that made us wait till friday morning to actually get the residency thingie into my wife's passport.

after that we took a cab to cross the border at the indicated Point of Entry. cost us 60 dollars. he took us from hotel to border. walk across with us and directed us exactly to the place to get in line. they took ana's paperwork, asked some more questions, took her picture and fingerprints. approved it all. taxi took us back to hotel.

Ciudad Juarez is cold. take layers of warm clothing. there is a pay phone inside the consulate. buy your husband a payphone card. he can call you at your hotel whenever there is a need to coordinate anything and you don't have to wait outside. there is a snack bar inside. it helps to tide you over. nothing great though.

if they ask you to come back the next day and hand you a pass, line up in the line that goes to the left.

feel free to ask any more questions!

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussiontraveling to Mexico with greencard
couple issues. hopefully someone will clear these up.
#1 To leave the country by plane, they were requiring that you have a valid passport. But that got postponed till ???. So, having a greencard should be enough.
The reason that was a requirement was they wanted to standardize your re-entry. So your hubby's Resident card should suffice for re-entry.

#2 Mexico's requirement for visitors. Unless they've changed the rules recently, you fill out the visitor's visa on your flight. As a citizen/per resident of USA, this was the sole requirement.

Having said, that, your best bet is to call the airline (assuming you are flying into Mexico) and ask them. They should know.

Enjoy your trip!

QUOTE (Artegal @ Aug 31 2007, 02:36 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
TIPS:
Its okay to arrive early, they weren't too picky about letting you in as long as you had a valid ASC NOA. I would suggest either googling earth or mapquest the facility or even drive by it prior to the Biometric date--as yeah the ASC would appear to be odd places. The Green Card holder will need: Photo ID, passport, 2 year green card, driver's license (if any), also make sure you know your vitals: height, weight, age, address, telephone number. Know your A# (green card number), SSN (Social Security Number), and NOA (Application Number). You need the ASC NOA and 2 year green card or you won't get in the facility. Also if the green card holder is female I would suggest wearing her hair loose--as the biometric photographer demanded that pony-tailed or hair in a bun be let loose for the actual photo. Also the photographer required smiles or other facial expressions in order to see any distinguishing marks such as dimples, scars, what have you.

excellent recommendations. yes.gif good.gif

How did your biometric appt go today? Ours was like so: Completed Biometric appointment at what could be regarded as a hand-me-down light industrial warehouse, luckily the numerous faces from all parts of the world and then huge letters spelling IMMIGRATION painted on the parking lot drive way give you pretty good indication that your in the right place. Only the Green Card recipient can enter the facility without purse, bags, cameras, cell phones etc.

sswwweeeettttt. yes.gif

we hit it next friday. prolly gonna be similar to your experience. The ddress is in an industrial area. We will swing by this weekend to make sure we know how to get there and all.

smushtag,

USCIS has not cashed our check yet, BUT this week got not one but two letters (I-797C, Notice of Action)stating how her green card has been extended for another year. On htat letter it does say that they received our payment. I like how they received it not cashed it yet. biggrin.gif It also said that to wait for an appointment letter for the biometrics.

At least it is moving along now. And no worries regarding any hassles with employment or traveling.
