CanadaTD canceling my Visa becase moving to the US?
I called TD to change my name and they cancelled my Visa credit card.. There should be a thread somewhere back about it. It was super annoying because no one warned me of that at the bank. :/

I did just get a visa debit card sent from them, at least.. Not a credit card but allows me to make online purchases if I want, I think.

CanadaA little impatient!!
I was able to visit my fiance with no problems, though the customs officer asked a lot of questions (didn't help I was nervous because of my connecting flight). I'd think a red flag would be more likely the longer the visit is supposed to be. I was only visiting for 10 days and brought paperwork to prove ties to Canada just in case.

CanadaContracting back to Canada / GST Registration?
Haven't posted here in a while, but I've been getting settled in since I moved to California in September (got my conditional GC in February). I was hoping that either someone would be familiar with or could point me to a forum or something where I can learn about working with the CRA for contracting back to Canada? I want to do some work for a college I used to work for in Alberta, but they requested that I get GST registration (which apparently I'm below the requirements for being obligatory so it's technically voluntary). I filled out the initial form (RC1) I think and was emailed additional paperwork and a lot more information/things to do that I'm not sure if I understand 100%. Mostly with what is required for book/record keeping since that isn't my forté. I'd really appreciate the help.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWhat treatment is best for acne?

Your mileage may vary, but clindamycin is the only thing that's worked for me so far. You need to see a dermatologist to get it.

You could also try benzoyl peroxide.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionVacation and Conditional Green Card - Does this sound correct?

Thanks for the responses, I'll just bring all possible receipts just in case. :P  We'll probably be filing as soon as we get to the 90 day period. I know they can be fiddly with timing/slowdowns so I'll be hopeful but not expecting an approval by Feb 22nd.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionVacation and Conditional Green Card - Does this sound correct?

My husband and I are excited to be going on a cruise (his first) with my godparents in late February. I was mostly concerned about my outdated Canadian passport when we were booking it. Of course, I realized after that -- my Conditional Green Card expires on February 6th. Oops. The passport issue (old last name) has been taken care of by a fairly speedy Passport Canada. Today I called USCIS to learn more about the now more pressing issue of the CGC. The agent I got was talking very quickly and ended up being difficult to understand. If I got the gist of it correct, I should be fine as long as I present both my conditional green card and the receipt of my filing for the I-751. Are there any other details that I'm missing/should look out for? Thanks. :)

I'm sorry it's so stressful - I do wish they had put them closer to each other.

If you fly into Vancouver which is probably the airport where you will end up, Surrey is about a 45 minute drive away, or over an hour depending on the traffic.  If you don't have a car or want to take a cab that far, your best option is probably to take the sky train (basically a raised subway) to Surrey (there is a sky train station at the Vancouver airport), and then a bus once you are in Surrey - not sure how close the sky train station is to Dr. Cheema's.  It will take a little longer since it is public transit but you should get there okay. You will just need to give yourself time.[/qu

Yes, it would be a problem. The ship will leave US waters and enter a foreign country by going to Vancouver or elsewhere in Canada. That means you have left the US so even if you don't leave the ship you will run into problems. You can wait until after you file your AOS and get your AP (advance parole) and that way you wouldn't have a problem. The other thing to be looking at is when you go on your honeymoon - depending on the time of year you might want to choose another adventure:).

That's what I was afraid of.... Oh well... I'll just have to think of something else to do for our honeymoon within the US....

What about a Hawaiian cruise?
That's what I'm planning to do.
I mean, since there's no where to get off in between the Cali area and Hawaii, there shouldn't be any problem.
And another member did it, so it seems to be fine.

Yeah that would work... its just Hawaii is a lot more money compared to Alaska.... and with the thought of being unable to work until I get my EAD I dont really want to break the bank... so its finding the balance of still having a great honeymoon but not spending a ton of money....

I will be moving to Wisconsin.... and you're right Oregon is AMAZING!!!! It's beautiful there....

CanadaAlaskan Cruise???
Hey Everyone... I'm just starting this whole process and I had a quick question....

When (or should I say if?) I receive my K-1 Visa would it be possible for me to take my lovely lady on a honeymoon that includes an Alaskan cruise?? We would leave from an American port of call (most likely Seattle) and I would make sure we'd book on a cruise that ended in Seattle... the only problem that I foresee is that all the cruises I have looked at make a stop in Vancouver or Victoria Canada.... Seeing as I would not have the authority to leave the country during my initial time in the US will this be a problem, even if I stay on board the ship when in Canada??

If anyone has any idea or if you need more information please let me know!!!

Thanks in advance!!

(As well thanks for everything you users have posted on here!!! What a relief to find a website that is so helpful!! and its because of users that post their experiences!! Thanks again!!)

CanadaA friendly rivalry
What I always joke about doing with my fiancee whenever I visit her is to have her act as interpreter as she lived in Canada for two years.... it would go like this

ME: Hey how you doing eh?
HER: He wants to know how you're doing...
ME: Good eh!
HER: He says that's good...

and just continue with it for as long as possible....

we've yet to do it, but one of these trips I will!

CanadaDeadline to submit document after interview
QUOTE (maplestar @ Nov 19 2009, 01:39 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I had my AOS interview on Tuesday morning and it was pointed out that they needed my long-form birth certificate. I had submitted the only birth certificate I have, the wallet-sized card, but because it doesn't have my parents' names on it, they won't accept it.

I received the letter today giving a 4-week deadline of Dec. 17th to submit the document. So (having heard back from somebody who is eligible to be my guarantor), I submitted the application online for the birth certificate.

Now my worry: the province doesn't make any guarantees about service times, if it's being mailed internationally. If one submits online and it's being mailed within Canada, they guarantee it within 15 business days. If I take that guaranteed time (ignoring the fact that it doesn't apply when the birth certificate's mailed to the U.S.), and work forward, I get Dec. 10th. Which is a little close for my comfort.

Is there a procedure to extend the deadline? If so, should I pre-emptively request an extension now, or should I wait to see if the document arrives in time to meet Immigration's deadline?

P.S. I wish they wouldn't use such black-and-white language in their notices "You have until December 17, 2009 (4 weeks) to submit the required documents or your application will be denied."

What province are you from??? as a different poster already replied AB was really quick getting it to me.... They also told me 20 days, and I too got in less than a week...

CanadaVancouver consulate interview

Hello all,

I am starting to panic a little because I assumed my Canadian fiance would have her K1 Visa by April and no later than May, but I am now reading about the wait times for the consulate interview. She lives in Edmonton, Alberta, so she will be going to the Vancouver consulate for the interview, correct? I have been reading horrible things for the waiting time for Montreal and cannot find much information about the Vancouver office. I received the NOA1 on 11/2/09, and the NOA2 should be coming any day now. What is the typical wait time for interview to occur after the case is forwarded from NVC?

Through my ignorance thinking this would happen faster than I now realize, we have already scheduled our wedding arrangements for June 5

Any information about the length of the process from the NOA2 would be helpful. Thanks!

Hey just so you know there is a slight delay in Vancouver due to some unknown event happening there next month... its some new fangled thing called the Olympics... :P

I sent my info in 2 weeks ago and I've been given an interview date of March 9th. It most likely would have been sooner but I really didn't want to deal with all those people coming for the Olympics so I'm fine with that date. The consulate is very good at replying to emails! Take a look at my timeline for more info!

Canadarescheduling interview in Van....

No problem about a Tues interview and Wed medical! I did mine that way because I could only afford one night in Vancouver. What they will do is give you a sheet to say you have authority to come back the next day with the results and your passport. ( They will give that back because you need it for the exam) You will pick up the results of your medical at 2:00 pm in the afternoon on Wed., and bring them to the consulate.

The other nice thing, they will also let you know if you are approved pending medical, so if you already know you're healthy.. :)

The visa, however, still won't be issued until Thurs. If you can not stay that long, bring the xpress envelope to have them mail it to you. That's what I did. I flew back to Vancouver Island on Wed. night, got my visa in the mail on Fri. :).....

wow...seems so long ago now....

edit. They can move it to Wed afternoon, however you still won't have the med results with you as you need to be there by 1:00 and the results are ready @ 2:00. You could be there for a couple hours or so, depending on how busy it is. The visa is still issued the next day....

Thank you so much!! It's comforting to know someone else has done what I need to do!!!

Ah, good times. Same happened to me. YES, this is going to be an issue. You must have the I-94 with your documents to apply for AOS, etc. (actually, I shouldn't really say it's an ISSUE, as it's easily corrected, but just know that you must get the I-94)

I'll assume that you at least got a stamp on your visa/passport when you crossed? Tell me they at least stamped it. lol

Go to your local deferred inspection site : http://www.cbp.gov/l...ction_sites.pdf

They will be able to issue you a proper I-94 dated with the date of your stamp.
