I'm even checking my "junk" mail folder on my email. At least if someone would see a touch we would know we were on the right track. It's only 8.30 there soooo they are probably sippin coffee and debating on how much work to do today. They(whoever THEY are) say that most people decide within the first 15 min at work how hard they are REALLY going to work that day. Lets hope they've all decided that they want to be productive employees smile.gif

you think so??? they should be in work mode today... i mean they've come of their turkey highs by now... no more crazy shopping days.... it's time to work for a little bit before Christmas... let's get all of our NOA2's out of the way!!!!

Haha! its true that I can see how monday would have been a slack day... coming back from a 4day weekend sucks. Maybe they'll try to catch up during the last 3days of the week... I really wish I could be a fly on the wall and at least know what they are up to. Are they even thinking of processing K1s??? Are our all files still in storage?? All this speculation is driving me crazy.
Yeah! I look at my junk email too!! I'll tell you, when I get emails in the evening, my heart sometimes freezes for a second as my brain processes who it's from. And sometimes I think Matt will just get the notice in the mail, without any email or update on the USCIS site.

I don't care how I find out... email, or letter... just as long as I find out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ohh well... this is one way of learning patience I guess..

Day 85, huh? That sounds about right. Im hoping we dont over 90 days!! smile.gif
I wish some of us would have touches to report, at least.

I guess Im at day 74 or so.... 74 is a lucky number for me.

I've heard we won't see touches on the K-1 visa's... they generally get them and approve them (at least that's how I like to think of it... otherwise that's one more thing to stress about)

sigh... come on US government!!!!! make me a happy man!!

so back to Panda Watch day 75 (aka the visa journey)

you know how I was stalking the government website, the whole time we've been waiting this week they've shown 0's across the board, well I'm proud to report the fact that they are now showing data again, and HOPEFULLY that means they are going to ROCK out and send a bunch of NOA2's very shortly!!

one can hope right??

CanadaWho to ask?
I think I saw that post recently.. I've also found a couple of Canadian companies that offer expatriate insurance - The Cooperators and ETFS. I'm probably going to check them out first, because at least the first one sounds familiar.. I've also contacted NRIOL and bookmarked patriot platinum. I should be able to get on my fiance's insurance after we're married but it is good to fill the gap in between.

CanadaWho to ask?
Thanks, I sent her a PM.. The forum looks interesting, but I think I'll wait on trying it for now. Should probably be making more phone calls at work too because everything is closed by the time I get home (has been a pain trying to figure out what I will do for health insurance until I can go on my fiance's plan).

CanadaWho to ask?
Hi all,

My fiance and I have completed the waiting/back-and-forth game known as "Getting a K-1 visa". I'm probably not moving until september, to give me a chance to complete my work contract and get things in order. However, I have questions that I'm not sure if this forum can answer or not, regarding working and taxes. Did any of you go to an accountant or lawyer? Are there any other places I could ask immigration questions? My biggest question right now is whether I can do contract work from the USA to Canada with the company I am working for, or if that's nixed by a lack of EAD as well (we're not getting married until October so it will be months before I have authorization to work in the US). Not sure how filing taxes works when you've moved, either.
zentacoFemaleCanada2012-07-22 16:34:00
CanadaHave ya'll told your boss about your US immigration??
My boss has known my intent since I started working there last year as an external contractor, but I had assumed it was going to be a temporary job (things happened and now I'm in office as a temporary full-time worker, would have been hired if not for the overhanging "leaving the country" thing). Not all employers will get upset but it probably depends on the type of people you're working for. I might actually keep working for them from the states if I can, lol.

CanadaDS 156 vs DS 160 vs My Head Exploding!
Unless the Vancouver consulate has updated the packet 3 to need the DS-160, he shouldn't need it (despite it saying otherwise on the US Visa interview website). They told me it was going to be used eventually, but not yet.

Sorry for the confusion. In Vancouver, at the moment, we don’t require form DS-160 for processing K visas. However, this requirement may change in the future after upgrade to our system to integrate with form DS-160. You don’t have to worry about this form if you plan to apply within the next several months.

CanadaDeclaring Jewelry at POE?
Ah, that works. So I guess the valuation is mostly for duties, then? I got duty taxed on my engagement ring when I came back to Canada in 2011 (so much for my fiance trying not to reveal how much he spent on it). :P I don't have any wedding gifts, and thankfully the things I have that are <1year old is limited (a tanzanite ring, a bit of clothing, and a couple other things). My suitcases have jumbled contents but I can give a general list of stuff I'm bringing. Thanks!

CanadaDeclaring Jewelry at POE?
Flying down.. A bit far of a drive and I can't drive anyway. Pretty sure everyone needs to do the customs declaration form (this one: http://www.cbp.gov/x...ration_form.xml). I looked at that thread and it makes things a little more confusing if anything (I might have more than 10k in value in personal items and money (thought not bringing down more than 10k with me) so now I'm more concerned, lol).

CanadaDeclaring Jewelry at POE?
So it's optional then? The declaratiom form makes it sound like they need the value of everything staying in the country, personal or otherwise.

CanadaDeclaring Jewelry at POE?
I was wondering how those that have crossed the border have handled declaring the items they were bringing down with them on the little declaration form you get at US Customs? I've spent the day trying to value things, but the one part that's going to be tough is the jewelry because I didn't purchase most of it (gifts). I have a number of necklaces and one of my mother's birks rings.. What's the best thing to do in this situation? I'd rather not go to the store for appraisals as that would be fairly expensive to do.. :(

Canadaphew.. was worried about visit
YYC seems to be one of the better airports to go through when it comes to dealing with customs officers and such. I've never had any issues and I also used it as my point of entry.. the main delay there was waiting for other people to be dealt with in secondary.

Meanwhile, I've only gone through YVR once and I thought the guy was going to turn me away. (Probably didn't help that I was really nervous - first time using connecting flights and it was close to departure for my plane.)

CanadaCredit Card?
Well, the card is already gone and I've asked at least two different people, so I'm not sure that I want to keep bugging TD. The wait times on the phone with them kind of suck. At this point I'm in a credit union here in California with a visa debit card so that should be good enough - my husband is willing to help out with any purchases past my limit (which I still need to check into). My brother is power of attorney so if I were to have issues he can wire money down to me. Just goes to show that no matter how much planning you can do, things can slip by and you have to prepare for them!

CanadaCredit Card?
I called the regular 1-800 number and the one suggested on the previous page. They even said they double checked, and my card is already gone. Good thing I have a power of attorney in Canada to wire money to me if need be. This has been my only kerfluffle so far, at least.
zentacoFemaleCanada2012-11-01 19:57:00
CanadaCredit Card?
I just called TD again and they confirmed that I can't have a CC.. Apparently people can slip by by not saying that it's a permanent move, but if it is the card has to be closed. Too bad. :(
zentacoFemaleCanada2012-10-29 12:35:00
CanadaCredit Card?
Apparently you can get a secured credit card from Wells Fargo, but it's a little different in that you have to keep at least $300 on it to pay your bills, and I don't know what the limit is. Also I'm not sure that you can build credit with it. My stay with WF is a temporary one though (switching to a credit union as mentioned) so I opted not to apply.

Edit: Found the details: https://www.wellsfar..._cards/secured/

CanadaCredit Card?
Before I moved to California, I contacted my bank to tell them about the move and to change my address. I even changed my credit card type and no issues were mentioned. Yesterday, I called to see if I could change my name on my card and found out from the person that supposedly I wasn't allowed to have a Canadian credit card per federal government rules because I was permanently moving to the USA. Does anyone else here still have a CAD credit card, or know more details on this? It was a bit upsetting to suddenly find this out as most of my money is still in my bank account in Canada, so my credit card was my main way of accessing it until I got my banking situation down here figured out. Fortunately I was finally able to get a bank account at a local credit union so I can wire more down here soon, but it kind of sucks that I'm apparently not allowed to have a proper credit card in either Canada or the US yet (US because I'm jobless still). :(

CanadaPreparing documents and evidence of relationship for Interview! How much is too much??
If you're going to the Vancouver consulate, they may not even request to see any additional evidence if you had enough with the I-129F.. They didn't for me despite bringing a stack of stuff (or maybe because of that? :D) When they were looking at our initial evidence they seemed most interested in the photos and plane tickets.

Edit: nevermind, saw your location and didn't read your post thoroughly enough.. Still, I'm sure tickets and photos would be satisfactory.

CanadaWhat do you miss most about Canada
I miss perogies, poutine, M&M meat shop and of course my family. :P

Also I miss calgary transit - the public transport in my area is lacking and I'm nervous about riding my bike around as well. I had pretty good access to everything where I used to be. Still need to get a drivers licence, but can't until I get my employment authorization or green card.
zentacoFemaleCanada2012-11-15 16:45:00
CanadaJoint bank account or one in my own name?
We each have individual chequing accounts and joint savings accounts.. That's another possible route (having both).
zentacoFemaleCanada2012-11-26 12:30:00
CanadaI got my employment authorization card!
They didn't ask me a lot of questions, but they told me they needed time to verify my status and that it could take up to a month as well. I think it's probably a standard thing.

CanadaTD canceling my Visa becase moving to the US?
My card has my name on it, so hopefully it'll work alright online. Don't really need to test it right now though. Actually, they sent me one with my old name a couple of weeks ago and I ended up having my brother go to the bank and change it for me (as my power of attorney). I phoned them and they said they wouldn't send me a new card, but they did.

Well, I logged into easyweb today and my bank account is still active, but my credit card account has vanished. The TD guy said it would still appear, just be inactive, so I could make payments to it online. But it's not there, ugh. Gotta call them again.

Same happened for me, but I hadn't been using my card so didn't have any payments to make, fortunately. You won't lose your bank account by moving (and I don't think they could do that anyway because it's your money).

CanadaTD canceling my Visa becase moving to the US?
I called TD to change my name and they cancelled my Visa credit card.. There should be a thread somewhere back about it. It was super annoying because no one warned me of that at the bank. :/

I did just get a visa debit card sent from them, at least.. Not a credit card but allows me to make online purchases if I want, I think.
