IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedureschanging name
Done this already. wink.gif

So basically, what you have to do is once you receive your marriage certificate, you can take it to a registry depot and change it over. I was only charged $20 because I was changing my name due to marriage. It should be the same where you are. As well, once you have your photo ID, go to your local SIN office and change your name on the card to your married name. (Remember to bring your birth certificate and your marriage certificate!) It is not required, but it is easier in the long run. The cost to change names was free. Plus, you need 2 pieces of government ID with your married name to apply with your passport. Then change your health care card, and everything else.

Now, for the passport. You will need to reapply for a new passport altogether. Be sure to check off the box that asks whether or not you already have a valid passport. You'll have to pay for a whole new passport, which is really a pain in the @ss.

If you need anything else, let me know! smile.gif

EDIT: Wait, what VISA are you applying under...my information is only good if you married in Canada/USA/etc, then returned home to Canada. I do not know the procedure for changing ID in the US. =(

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresQuestions Re. i130, Entering US & K3
QUOTE (sebald @ Jun 8 2009, 11:37 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Thanks for this fast response. But what is a DCF?
Also, I have one more important question:
After we send off the i130 for processing, could my spouse enter the US as a visitor and REMAIN in the US until the process is complete? I realize the process would probably take longer than 6 months. I also realize that she would eventually have to go to Montreal for a final interview. But after the interview in Montreal she would obtain her green card right away, yes? And then she could legally enter the US again and not worry that she had exceeded the 6 month period on her previous visit? By the way, the address we would use for her on the i130 form would be my parents' address (Oakville, Ontario, Canada).
Does this plan sound reasonable?

Your spouse could enter the US but it's really the customs officer decision in the end, so be sure to bring proof of strong ties to Canada. And your spouse would be unable to wait in the US until the process is done simply because they will have to have a medical done and then an interview at the consulate in Montreal.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresQuestions Re. i130, Entering US & K3
I say marry now and file for DCF. It's the fastest way! I would not go back to the USA to file a CR-1 because then you're looking at an average 6 month wait. Heck, it could be shorter but more than likely, it is a really really long wait. The border officer would be unable to tell if a person is in line for a visa just by scanning their passport. And if she is asked, who she is visiting, she should be 100% HONEST. ''My husband is a dual citizen of Canada the USA.''

But seriously, get a co-sponsor in the USA and DCF. It'll save your sanity. @@

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresK-1, K-3, IR-1/CR-1 ? ? ? Which one to choose?
All I can say is, do not marry during your first meeting. It's not very logical.

In all honesty, I advise you to meet your loved one and see how it goes and then if you decide that she is who you truly want to marry, then you can apply for the K-1. You're looking at about 6+ months average wait, but trust me, the wait is worth it (most of the time.) Plus you'd have covered the face-to-face requirement. Mind you, you have to see each other within 2 years of filing. So takes tons of pictures and try and get her to fill out her K-1 forms, such as G-325A etc. smile.gif

I currently am the proud owner of a 7 month old German Shephard/Alaskan Malamute X puppy. She's the sweetest and like everyone here, I fear that I may not be able to bring my dog with me across the border. I know she'll have a nice home with my mother and brother, but it still feels like I will be leaving my child behind. sad.gif!

Oh yeah, LGG. I used my Provincial ID card and my SIN card. You can change your SIN from maiden to married for $20, but if you're lucky, it's free. I got it for free but I heard some people had to pay for a new one. And of course, the number stays the same. laughing.gif It's just easier to have it all under married name. :3

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPotentically Lost 1040 Form for 2008
Good evening fellow VJ'ers!

So to sum up my question, my husband who is petitioning me is unable to get his hands on his 2008 1040 form. It's currently in storage, and he's overseas in Kuwait until April 2010. He called the IRS for his tax transcripts, and he's going to get a letter of employment from his commanding officer, and he's going to include 6 month pay stubs.

Or does anyone know if it's possible for him to get a hold of the business who did his taxes, then request for them to send him his taxes again?

I hope someone can help us with this. He wasn't really thinking when he put all his things into storage. >_<

Another question.

Um, going over the I-1864, we ended up getting a household size of 3. unsure.gif

21. Persons you are sponsoring in this affidavit:
a. Enter the number you entered on line 10.

So thats a 1.

Persons NOT sponsored in this affidavit:
b. Yourself. 1

c. If you are currently married, enter "1" for your spouse.
Do we count this one too? So confused. x_x

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI-1864
Hello everyone, so my question is about the I-864. =)

I know it's for 2009, but since my husband has been and will be deployed for the entirety of 2009, should we fill out the form with his deployment pay in mind or should we just fill it out with the amount in mind that he would be earning if he weren't deployed. Also, he got a $10,000 sign on bonus this past February and he's getting another $10,000 in Feb 2010.

We're confused. Any input would be fantastic.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresEXPEDITE THE CR1 VISA
Yep, he has to be military and about to be deployed. Or extreme hardship, or medical reasons.

You could try calling them and asking for an expedite once your case goes beyond the 5 months (currently) processing times.

If you do have your baby before you get your VISA, they just apply for it's American Citizenship while you're still in the Philippines.

Good luck. And don't type in all caps!!

Call NVC and give the operator number your e-mails if you have your NVC number. Then, in a few days following, you should be getting 2 e-mails regarding the AOS payment and the DS-3032, choice of agent form. In your AOS e-mail there will be your IIN. smile.gif

I went to see my husband last Christmas and had no problems. But you should bring with you, strong ties to Canada. The more the better, a letter of employment, house lease. And bring along your I-130 and your NOA1 as proof it's started and be honest...and confident and polite.. =)

EDIT: And be sure to have a return ticket.
